The times we are living in have forced Buck Reilly to question his purpose in life.
Once a world-renowned archeologist and treasure hunter who lost everything, Buck had fled to Key West to operate Last Resort Charter and Salvage aboard a pair of antique amphibious aircraft. Finally tired of being broke, Buck digs out his old maps, clues, and research to some of the world’s most lucrative missing treasures to start afresh.
Until one of his worst enemies shows up to demand help in finding the missing Queen’s Dowry that sank with eleven Spanish Galleons in 1715 off Florida’s east coast. They have his brother hostage and will kill him if Buck refuses or fails.
The ensuing odyssey pits him against the people who had cost him his former success, family, wealth, and led to his self-exile to Key West.
But there is no escaping this time.
The rocky road takes a surprise and brutal path that leads to mind blowing discoveries and a life-or-death confrontation that blows Buck’s reclusive world irrevocably apart.

As always, a thrilling adventure with Buck Reilly! Never having been an avid reader myself, but once I had the opportunity to hop on the Buck Reilly adventure trail, I couldn’t get off!
When I start one of John Cunningham’s books, I am gripped by his way with words, historic places and points of interest; which are perfectly mingling with his flare for telling his tales. Traveling along with Buck, the adventure keeps me yearning to turn the next page and corner to see where we go.
From start to finish, I find myself anxiously awaiting the next twist or turn. John’s passion for the places he researches to incorporate into his book’s shines through brilliantly!
If you haven’t had the opportunity to read one of John’s Buck Reilly books, do yourself a favor and get a book today. You won’t be disappointed and will feel like you’re part of the adventure with each book in this wonderful series!
Not expecting another book in this series I was pleasantly surprised when this came out. Unfortunately I was disappointed. It was pretty much like all the others. The more I read, the better it got. I thought that this could be the final chapter in the Buck Reilly saga. Needless to say, many of the subplots in previous books were resolved. Who knows?
Wow! Was totally surprised by the curves that were thrown in this book. The author has really outdone himself in weaving the story with so many of the main characters involved- along with some old friends from another of my favorite authors.
This is an excellent book. It is very enjoyable, especially for those who have read other books in the series. Many of the characters in Indigo Abyss have been featured in previous Buck Reilly novels, but they come together in this book in pivotal ways which help explain questions readers may have had about the circumstances behind the deaths of Buck’s parents and his estrangement from his brother Ben. For new readers, however, there is sufficient background detail provided to make this book ideal as a stand-alone novel.
A nice touch is the inclusion of other Florida Keys characters such as Jesse McDermitt and his friends from Wayne Stinnett’s Caribbean Adventure Series. And, as with other books by John Cunningham, there are references to fascinating archeological history.
The book is so well written you feel as though you’re actually there in Virginia, France, the Bahamas, and the Florida Keys. The action is fast-paced and filled with intrigue, duplicity, relevant historical details, and, in the case of Buck’s business partner Ray, steadfast loyalty.
We are left at the end with unresolved questions about Buck’s relationship with his ex-wife Heather and future plans for Last Resort Charter and Salvage. No doubt these will be explored in subsequent novels in the series. I look forward to reading the next one.
Buck Reilly, the protagonist in Indigo Abyss, is every man’s hero. Who among us doesn’t daydream of being an adventurer who travels the world in search of treasure? Buck is a pilot, adventurer and an archeologist with a nose for trouble. Men want to be like him, and women…well, that’s another story.
The Buck Reilly series is an exciting tale of history, adventure and romance. Surviving a tragic past, Buck never quits. He always moves forward and at the end of the day he gives us all hope that we can survive our challenges also.
The series takes us through the progression of Buck’s life, but you can pick up each new installment and feel like you have known Buck from the beginning. This is a real page turner that you are not going to want to put down. The author has done a great job of creating an character you will think of as a friend, and you will anxiously await the next installment in his exciting, adventurous life.
Outstanding! If you like surprises, this story is loaded with them, including a surprise visit from a well know Key Wester. Buck has decided that his calling in life is finding antiquities. Who should show up, but Gunner, the murdering mercenary that works for his ex-partner, Jack Dodson, who you may recall, is responsible for the demise of their e-Antiquity company. Along with Buck’s ex-wife Heather. What a reunion that will be! Seems they are all intent on finding the Queen’s Jewels, which disappeared when a Spanish fleet went down in 1715. All they need is for Buck to show them where it is. Right, like Buck’s going to jump on that bandwagon. They expected him not to want in, so they kidnapped his brother and were keeping an eye on Scarlet Roberson. A little illegal scavenging only matters if you get caught. Quite possibly the best Buck Reilly yet!
King Buck is back! I really enjoy the planning details that Mr. Cunningham lays out for the readers. It is like you are along on the hunt for treasure! Each new release brings back Buck and his friends for a great visit. Come along for the ride and if this is your first meeting, enjoy the new friends you will soon be making!
I have been a fan of the previous adventures of Buck Reilly and genuinely enjoyed this latest installment. The author brings characters from past books back into Buck Reilly’s life by including them in his quest to start over and find answers from his past. There are many twists and turns in the story line that have Buck questioning his relationships with his ex-partner, ex-wife and his brother among others. The only regret I have is that now that I finished the book, I have to wait for the next installment to see what the next adventure for Buck and company will be.
Another Buck Reilly adventure that does anything bu disappoint! I was impressed how the protagonist of another adventure series was a character early in the book (Jesse McDermitt from author Wayne Stinnett). This book also answered questions posed in earlier Buck Reilly novels and included action, adventure, heartbreak and romance that are present in all. Buck always travels to fascinating locales and in this tale, he hunts for treasure in the beautiful, clear waters of the Bahamas. For lovers of Florida adventure books, Indigo Abyss is the ticket!
Once famous treasure hunter Buck Reilly has experience with planes, boats, and scuba diving. And he needs them all in order to survive the many challenges he faces in Indigo Abyss. He comes up with creative solutions to seemingly impossible situations. And his supporting cast of characters only makes the mission more difficult. Great tropical adventure, searching for shipwrecked treasures. I’m hooked. I am going back to the beginning to read the entire series. If you’re a fan of Travis McGee and Doc Ford, you will enjoy Buck Reilly in Indigo Abyss.
Mystery, deception, double crossing, romance and, of course, treasure to hunt! New friends and old enemies all appear, adding more twists than you can even imagine. Expect intrigue, drama and answers to some long ago but not forgotten questions. A great mix of boats and diving and flying the Grummans. Story telling so well done you can almost hear the splash as the plane lands on the water! Book #9 in the Buck Reilly series buts it’s a 10 for me!
This Buck Reilly book is a great addition to the series. Filled with all the usual suspects and then some. There are some twists and surprises that I just can’t even hint at. Suffice to say it was a page turner for me. I also like how John Cunningham always includes historical and geographical references that obviously take a lot of research. If you like mystery, adventure, intrigue and inspiring locals then read this book.
I've been a Buck Reilly reader since John's first in the series. Each book can be read as a stand alone read, however, the nuances you get and pick up by reading them in order shouldn't be discounted. In "Indigo Abyss" John continues that tradition, but beautifully wraps up some loose ends & brings closure to several plot lines laid out in previous books. Needless to say, it's a great read, & while I don't want to be "that guy..." Hurry up & write another Buck Reilly adventure John!
I was a first time reader of this series, and can conclusively say, I am hooked. A great read, with so much historical information, with such a well conceived storyline, I was transported by boat, plane and deep sea diving, through the eyes of an archeologist and treasure hunter, in Buck Reilly. I was kept on the edge of my seat, through twists and turns, that built to a satisfying culmination, that left me waiting for the next installment. Don't miss this one!!!
I never say this was the best snuck Reilly book, because there's always another story, and they are all really good. Ideally liked the prologue where it was all put together. Adding another plane and mentioning a fourth means we are far from done in this series. I know there has to be more Heather and Buck somewhere. Always looking forward to the next work from JHC. Thanks
Wow, I didn't see any of that coming! Great story that pulled together a lot of loose ends from the earlier days of Buck Reilly. One of the things I love about Cunningham's characters is that they seem so very real, flaws and all. Get the book, it's a wild ride. And if you haven't read the series, do!
Not only is this the latest in a great series, but this book also offers up a few unexpected twists and turns I wasn't expecting at all! John Cuningham's ability to mix action, adventure, and history together makes for an exciting and hard to put down story. I read many authors in this genre and Cunningham's offerings are absolutely "top shelf." Keep them coming, please!!
The best of an excellent series, this Buck Reilly adventure has it all. Travel to exotic places, flying boats, supermodels, betrayal on a grand scale, sunken treasure and some twists that I didn't expect!! Read this book, then read the first 8. You'll be glad you did!
The best in the series yet, but I feel like I say that every Buck Reilly book.
Gunner and Jack are back at it again. This time they’ve kidnapped Bucks brother to make him help them but everything may not be as it seems. This book brings in some familiar faces and storylines. This book ties up a lot of storylines from Bucks past.
Once again great story and of course Riley finds out all those that have left him high and dry get what they deserve dead in the water arrested and arrived in Switzerland for the murder of Riley s mum and dad and also loss of his brother....ciao from Bobbie and i.....
Well, I wasn’t sure after reading the first novel. It was good and well written but didn’t blow me away, but after 3 books I really got into the series and I’m reading them one after another. Great story lines and high drama. Thank you for the books!
This latest book by John Cunningham brings back King Buck and reveals what happens in Switzerland ten years ago. If you have read any of his other buck Reilly books i suggest you do. Great beach reads
I have always looked forward to the next installment in the Buck Reilly series, and that did not change with this novel. I was excited to read it, and looking forward to the next big adventure.
This book of the Buck Reilly Adventure Series brought all nine of them full circle with an extraordinary story and ending. It was great to see Jesse McDermit make a guest appearance.
“King Buck” is back, better than ever! Treasure hunting with friends, enemies and so much more. One of the best Buck Reilly reads so far. Couldn’t put it down until finished...it’s THAT good!
Good to have Buck back in action. This time there are thrills of a different type that build the intrigue in subtle ways and build up to the great action in the air and everywhere.
John Cunningham is one of my favorite authors. I have read all of his books. He keeps you engaged throughout the entire book. I can't wait for the next one.
