I can't remember the last time I have found a more useful book to help with navigating depression since I read "The Mindful Way Through Depression" by Jon Kabat-Zinn as well as "Mind Over Mood". This text focuses on chapters that include very helpful exercises. Yes, they can seem like a chore to complete, and it is hard work. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques involving such things as mindfulness, meditation and alternative thinking charts may not help everyone with depression, but the solutions included in this book are designed to help a person turn around his or her life.
Ultimately, in many cases the solution for individuals with depression is a combination of talk therapy and medication as well as exercises like these, but I feel that for those who struggle especially with thought patterns and need to become more aware of what triggers their downward spirals, this book is a very useful tool. If someone suffers from depression and can't seem to "let go" of certain issues from his or her past or needs better tools in their search for managing their depression better, I urge them to pick this book up. There are a number of helpful worksheets that one can download from the publisher's website once a person signs up, so I urge people to do that as well.
