This is a love story about a woman that has been disappointed by the two most important men in her life. First, her father abandoned her and her mother, then, her fiancé cheated on her then left her at the alter. Understandably so, she has all her defenses up and is completely opposed to love.
As prickly as Gem is, Nick was lost the moment he met her. He was a playboy with no desire to change his ways but his heart had other plans. He realized early on that he wants to explore the possibility of turning their fake relationship into something real.
As always, the writing was spectacular. I love this series
Gem & Nick are the first couple of Nia's where I initially liked the heroine more than the hero. She was strong, vulnerable, and completely honest about who she was and what she didn't want from the beginning. Until the wedding, same with Nick when he didn't want to deal with the situation at hand Nick was kind of dense and he really should have listened to her at the wedding and not driven off and left her, not a good move. I think I wanted him to come to her and make that right directly but he admitted it to Chance and did a good thing. I'm all over the place, because this book had a lot of all over the place characters that really pulled you in and made tou feel what they felt. This was the first MIM book where I struggled to believe there could be a happily ever after and that was more from Nick who easily professed his love than it was from Gem who was simply guarded being disrespected, lied to, and having her heart broken. You could truly feel the characters in this story and the chasm between them. Never count our a determined momma and this bunch of matchmakers I guess.
I absolutely love Gem's and Nick's story. I have read quite a few of the Make It Marriage books and I have loved each one of them. This one is actually one of my favorites. It has just enough... It tells the story of how each one of them (Gem and Nick) became the person that they he/she is when it came to trust, love and relationships without overkill of too much drama. I love how Nick was not afraid to love and be vulnerable but still reacted the same way anyone else would when he thought Gem was still in love with her ex. I also loved Nick's mom and dad... I was not that crazy about Gem's mom because of the way she treated Nick; however, I did get her reasoning which goes back to her past. Overall, this is a beautiful story about love, family, trust, honesty, and healing. I would definitely recommend it!
This is a unique series! There is parts that will bring smile to your face with lots of emotions in your heart, The characters are awesome and their passion burns up the pages with their chemistry. What a feisty heroine who is so independent that it gives you a delightful smile. The series is such a pleasurable experience that you will certainly enjoy. These stories are so believable that they make for great reading. What happens when a couple enjoys the fight and their make up activities is awesome along with their chemistry its call a forever and it turns into a love for life. I really enjoyed this book. The characters are such a extraordinary pleasure that written with such imagination that it makes this book a beautiful story along with the other eight to read.
This was a good book. Gem was dealing with a lot of unresolved issues concerning her mother, an absentee father and a cheating fiancee who stood her up at the altar and an unsatisfying job. I think she dealt with her issues as much as anyone else would have which makes her character very believable. And Nick was such a good man who just wanted a good woman. Even though he may have been a playboy because he was hooking up with women he had no desire to settle down with didn't mean he was incapable of settling down. It didn't take Nick a long time to realize Gem was who he wanted. They both were looking for something and found it in each other with a little help. Glad they communicate a little better and got together.
🥰 They were smitten with each other from the opening scene. Yes it was supposed to he fake, yes it was supposed to be short term, but although the wouldn't admit it to themselves, thye were already thinking long term. I like that it didn't take Nick forever to realize that he was feeling Gem, a also like that she had to fight for there relationship because sometimes women are really the ones standing in their own way. Everything about this book was adorable to me. The book can be summarize by a quote directly from Gem, Nick was/is “Someone who keeps holding me even when I have my spikes out.”
Another great book by Nia Arthurs! My emotions were all over the place. Gem had endured so much, from a small child when her father left. She had no male figure to help her navigate the ‘man’ world she was going to be thrown into; let alone trying to pick a man that was husband material. Until Nick. Theirs is truly NOT a love at first sight because Gem had been hurt badly by Kevin. Nick had a heart of gold to pay Gem’s mother’s debt from an accident. A must read. There are funny parts that will have you laughing.
Gem was so hard on Nick that one time i wanted to put the book down and stop reading it. She just irrated me to no end and then he broke through the ice and found the real, loving person that she was before the heartbreak of being left at the altar by her ex-Kevin, who she thought that she truly loved. Losing trust in someone that you loved can change your outlook on relationships and only a strong individual, like Nick who truly fell in love with Gem was willing to do the work. I ended up loving this book.
Gem and Nick story was wonderful It was fun, flirty, sexy, and a little drama Another win by Nia Arthurs Both were not looking for love but found love with each other The bonus was the appearance of the Make the Marriage crew Overall another great story by His and if you have not read any of the Make the Marriage series you are missing out BIG time Get a copy now, you will not be disappointed
I almost didn't read this book because it was a "Make It Marriage" book. I figure how can you make it marriage and they are still shacking with their men? Well, I relented and read it. It was funny and cute. I love how she always had a comeback for him. Nick's mom and dad were funny also. I really enjoyed this one. I hate the epilogue. It seems you endings are the same. I really don't give a rat's behind about a letter. I would read again.
I am becoming a serious fan of Nia Arthurs. Before I jump into this book, I love her writing style. Her younger books are more sultry than the newer ones but all of them allow the reader to use his/her imagination as to what happens between the characters in an intimate scene without all of the grit and dirt. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the grit too but sometimes using your imagination can create more.
Nick and Gem were meant for each other from the beginning. They fought back and forth, but Nick stepped up when he saw Gem was in a situation without question. I knew then he wanted more. They both appeared to be rough around the edges and scared to love. Gem had a valid reason. I couldn't figure out Nick's reason, except he just wasn't ready.
I enjoyed them trying to get together. I enjoyed them. Each relationship hits a snag. They did, but it was overcome and, then they had their HEA.
Read it for yourself and then tell me what you think.
I really enjoy these Make It Marriage books. I like that, even though it is a series, they are all different. But I also like that we get glimpses of the other characters in the series in each book. This one was different in that the characters weren't set up by Make It Marriage. As usual, cute story. I welcome the next in series.
This is a great book, I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I loved the chemistry between Nick and Gem. At first I was mad with Gem because she was just to scared. But she got it together and they made a awesome couple! I highly recommend this book you will enjoy it. Ms Arthur's is a great author and I love this series.
Be My Revenge is Gem and Nick's story. These two were constantly bickering. The banter was like making love for this couple. Gem could argue with a stop sign! 😅 This is fake engagement/ fake girlfriend/ boyfriend story. Great chemistry and characters. Good read!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I couldn’t rate this higher because Gem really got on my nerves. I’m told why she is so snarky with Nick but it seemed like a lot for someone who hadn’t really done anything to her. Then the stuff with Kevin?! Just why?! I liked Nick a lot but he was being ridiculously dense when it came to Cecile.
I am a sucker for Nia Arthurs books and the Make it Marriage series is my favorite. I loved the back and forth between the characters. It was a great read that I couldn't put down.
I usually really like these quick reads from this author but this one was lacking. I just could not like Gem. Prickly is one thing...as her character was called so often...but she was annoyingly rude IMO. And it never turned around so she wasn’t likable, even understanding the reason she is behaving like a rude child. So this one was far from a favorite and I wasn’t able to connect with the characters.
This book was very good very exciting and I love and a lot of distrust betrayal hurt So much sadness that the person could he was see The 1 she really love to a long time but good Good good good
Loved the hero (he was truly into her and handled the unpleasantness with her mother so well), less so the heroine, but still a Good story filled with emotion.
What a roller coaster these two were! I'm so glad that they finished the ride with happy ending. This book just goes to show that no matter your past that love will come at the right time in its unique way.
I could not stand Gem, she got on my every loving nerve. Yes Kevin was a scam bag, but you have someone here that is really trying to love you!!! She went from 1 to 100 in half a second. I did not like her for such a sweet and caring man.
Nick's mother and his father both loved him and raised him to be a loving wonderful man they were proud of him too so when he matched up with Gem he fell deeply in love with her despite their banter.
I felt like this ended too soon! Just when they got together the book ended, yes I enjoyed the faking it until it was real parts but they were so interesting that once hey became a real couple I wanted more.
I've had this book in my TBR for a while and I'm glad that I finally read it. Nick and Gem were too cute, firstly and comical. Sometimes a person really needs to get out if their own way in order to see what has been in front of them all the time..
