Ageless Wisdom: A Treasury of Quotes to Motivate & Inspire

Rate this book
In almost every book we read, we find those few passages of wisdom, which stand up, stand out, and demand to be noticed; “One simile, that solitary shines in the dry desert of a thousand lines” as Alexander Pope once put it. Those are the ones we write down because we keep coming back to them time and time again. Over the last thirty years, I’ve done just that, and carefully arranged my quotation collection, into this book, Ageless Wisdom. There’s just something mesmerizing about being able to pick up one book, and having the wisdom of many of the world’s greatest minds, at your immediate disposal. Ageless Wisdom is just that, a rich storehouse for those who love quotations. It contains a refreshing newness of quotes most have never been introduced to, not just another rearranging of old tired quotations. This 600 page collection is arranged into six
THE EMOTIONAL EFFECTS, THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY, THE SOCIAL LIFE, THE INTELLECTUAL IDEAS, THE ETHICAL CHOICE, THE MATERIAL WORLD. Inside these six parts, are quotations broken down into 128 categories from over 1000 sources, which were written over a 3,500-year period. Below are just a few of the great authors quoted in this
Napoleon Bonaparte, Martin Luther, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Jane Austen, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., William Shakespeare, Plato, Charles Darwin, Aristotle, Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Jesus Christ, Confucius, Joseph Addison, Aesop, Marcus Aurelius, Francis Bacon, Henry Ward Beecher, Edmund Burke, Thomas Carlyle, G.K. Chesterton, Charles Caleb Colton, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Fuller, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Johnson, Helen Keller, Thomas Kempis, John F. Kennedy, C.S. Lewis, Oscar Wilde, Michel de Montaigne, Thomas Paine, Blaise Pascal, George Bernard Shaw, Seneca, C.H. Spurgeon, Publilius Syrus, Henry David Thoreau, A.W. Tozer, Booker T. Washington, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Voltaire.
It’s like having the wisdom, of an entire library of books, contained in a single volume. This is not just a collection to be used as a reader or reference, but a collection of wise quotes, to pause and meditate upon, to meet with those who are no longer alive, to relive history from a front row seat, to listen to many of the greatest minds who have ever lived, to take advice from the greatest of counselors, and to learn from many of the world’s greatest teachers, all in this single volume called Ageless A Treasury of Quotes to Motivate & Inspire. I hope you find this collection of quotes and sayings thought-provoking, and that it brings you many hours of reading enjoyment.

A Treasure Chest! What a delight to open the pages of Felts’ “Ageless Wisdom: A Treasury of Quotes to Motivate & Inspire,” to find nuggets of contemplative thoughts and priceless gems of rousing words. I was provoked to think deeper and linger longer with historical orators and authors who had a colossal influence on our world. Few books lure me to return again and again, but I daily anticipate, if only for a few moments, to pick this book up and uncover the charms between its covers. Already, my copy is showing crevices in the spine because of my preferred sections and littered with “dog-eared” pages of my favorite quotes. This is one of those books I would rate in the top-five that earns a place by my favorite reading chair for frequent and easy access!

I am a collector of aphorisms and this book was a very good collection of ancient and current wisdom on a wide variety of topics and from a diverse group of contributors. I was able to skim through the book very quickly.

Listed below are a few of my favorite aphorisms from the book:

"True happiness consists not in the multitude of friends but in the worth and choice."
Ben Jonson Cynthia’s Revels

"Much silence makes a powerful noise."
African proverb

"It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise than for a man to hear the song of fools."
Ecclesiastes 7.5

"Choose a wife rather by your ear than your eye. "
English proverb

"The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read"

"Too often… We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought. "
John F Kennedy
