When the orcs invaded the human dimension, no one could stop them. War raged for years, and now the monstrous beasts have agreed to peace on two conditions: one, the human scientists must rebuild the machine that brought them into this world; and two, they must be provided with fertile brides to bear them orc babies.
Tara Caraway has been sentenced to death for a crime she didn’t commit. The only way to save her own life is to volunteer to become a tribute and join one of the institutes that prepare human females to become orc mates. Some say that being an orc bride is even worse than being dead, but she’s willing to take this chance. She doesn’t care what happens to her as long as there’s hope that she can escape later, find the one who killed her sister and framed her, and take revenge.
Rogan the Gray doesn’t need a human mate. All he wants is to live in the mountains with his horde and wait for the moment when they can all return home. But who knows if that will ever happen, and in the meantime, there aren’t enough female orcs for the orc warriors. Maybe, if he takes a human bride, his days won’t be so bleak.
Cara Wylde loves to write about strong, feisty women and their hot Alphas who will do anything to make them happy. Her books are filled with romance and just a dash of mystery, suspense, and that eerie atmosphere she fell in love with reading too many gothic novels. With a master's degree in Comparative Literature, she can't help but play with tropes and themes from various genres, trying to come up with fresh perspectives on the paranormal characters her readers love so much. Vampires, shape-shifters, demons, witches... Cara will always make sure they get their own twists.
When she's not writing, Cara is reading, planning her next story, or daydreaming. Her idea of pure heaven is a day filled with nothing but her laptop, a huge coffee pot, relaxing music, and a new, exciting project.
Un romance de monstruos ligero y bastante entretenido

Rogan the Gray de Cara Wylde Serie Orc Mates Libro 2
Argumento:
Rogan The Grey no necesita una pareja humana.
I almost cried. Not because the book is that stirring and haunting. It utterly failed to deliver on a promise.
1. The POV kept bouncing around. This makes the book very difficult to read for me when it does this. As an editor, I steer writers away from this style. It's very.amateurish and just improper. It wouldn't had been too horrible if the POV switch occurred every other paragraph, but in the same paragraph?? I don't think so.
2. The same thing is being said/done/thought about. Biting the inside of the cheek? There are so many other ways for characters to interact, why keep repeating the same, not-so-common gestures amongst different players from way different backgrounds? You don't have to do it that way. It makes the writer sloppy in technical matters of writing and the readership completely bored. I pushed myself again and again and again, but when the heroine of this tale balked in killing her ex-fiancé who killed her sister and would had killed her, too, except Tara said the VERY SAME THING as Candace did in Book 1 — that she couldn't go through with it because she couldn't be a murderer... Too repetitive on the worst level. Come on, Cara Wylde! You have a whole host of ways to resolve things than "Don't kill him! We can't be murderers! We're orcs! We're better than that!" What was my first reaction? Check the page count. OMG!... We're going to repeat the SAME, EXACT SCENARIO IN BOOK 1!!!!! Augh!!! I can't take it! I can't go through scenario verbatim all over again! Almost the same way Barbara Cartland writes! And I'm not reading an orc PNR written by her and her ghost writers. Orcs aren't like that. I would find the Tara heroine a greater disgrace by refusing to take revenge (because that is the orc way of thinking) than to live with an alleged murderer. And then we would put her sucky ex-fiiancé back at the real world and threaten him never to come back again. But you know he'll violate that and feel he could get away in shutting Tara up PERMANENTLY! Like he could go against a harde of ocrs. Yeah, right.... I couldn't read the book any more beyond that.
3. The grammar was poor. I kept coming across too many mistakes and errors, even more in this book than in Book !. This book had so much promise! That's what really upsets me! And to have that all ruined. Just pathetic.
4. Unrealistic behavior. I know the orcs are trying to adapt and assimilate, but I don't think they'd be pure Americans in behavior and language in about four years. No. Considering the isolation these orcs preferred, they would not have been this good in such a short period of time. I know how long it took me to get there, and I'm an editor!
I think in my entire life, I had only had maybe eight or nine DNF. This makes it #9 or #10. I truly wished that this writer could have gotten her hands on a great editor and spent extra time. She had SO MUCH potential with these two stories so far, but they read poorly as if they were rushed or if the writer didn't consider other people's advice. (Some writers won't take any suggestions no matter how good it is, but I can't say which. Only Cara knows.) I'm not saying she doesn't have talent. She had a great idea that needed more time to develop and mature. I certainly hope she takes time out of her life and rewrite these two books. If improved dramatically, I'd BUY them.
This book, like the first one in the series, has the female lead create a problem in their head that lasts for pages and is resolved when she communicates openly with the male lead. I dislike that trope immensely. I couldn’t relate to the female lead. I couldn’t relate to her relationship with her parents who openly disliked her for years. She seemed surprised with every rejection. I didn’t like how she treated her spouse or friends. Example: she has a baby. She finds out a friend bought children’s books. Asked friend why she didn’t give her the books. I’d say: Because people who didn’t just give birth can buy and own books for children. They’re not obligated to give them to you, a recent birth giver
This series is different but really good. This is the second book in the series about Tara and is taken by the Orc Rogan the Gray as a tribute. She really didn't have much of a choice, die or go with the Orc. Once you start reading the story you don't want to stop until done. I love how their relationship develops and Tara learns to care and accept Rogan. There is plenty of suspense, action, twists, and magic. Will they find out who is attacking the Orc's? Can't wait for the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a well written story, with great flow and fascinating characters. I am loving these Orcs! Full of honour, they certainly aren't the monsters we usually assume Orcs would be. I enjoyed how this story unfolded, full of action, suspense and passion. All great fun and I look forward to more stories set in this world :)
I like alien romance fantasies, they can be fun escapism. I was finding this book fairly enjoyable, however, this book's inconsistant application of the Superior Hyper Masculine Alien trope became annoying and I lost interest fast. These Orcs have brusque natures that are fed from a culture of never ending war? Well, that also makes the female orc pretty masculine too. If both males and females in their culture present as more "masculine" why are very feminine human women held up as the ultimate prize? They are warriors who pillage and kill but wouldn't dream of demanding sex from a woman before she is ready? What is considered masculine in their culture anyway? And why is their culture deemed to be superior even if all they do is wage war in their own dimension? The final straw (and the one that has me writing a review for a book I won't finish) was when the heroine is lamenting how human women are upset about how unmasculine human men have become. Seriously? Her fiance cheated on her with her own sister, killed that sister and then framed her (his fiance) for it. Sounds like toxic masculinity to me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Writing style is terrible, characters are extremely annoying and stupid, Unrealistic development, dialog is nonsensical and unrealistic. Overall, I would not recommend. One star for creativity, everything else was disappointing. It had good promise and could have been good if written better.
After years of battle, both the Orcs and humans are willing to negotiate peace if the scientists will rebuild the machine between their worlds and will allow human volunteers for mating with the Orcs.
Tara Caraway has been framed sentenced to death for a crime she didn’t commit. Before her execution, she was offered a deal to become a tribute and join one of the institutes that prepare human females to become orc mates. If she did not choose that, she would be executed by the end of the week. What choice does she have? Being an Orc bride will give her a chance to escape later and get her revenge on the one who killed her sister and framed her.
Rogan the Gray didn’t actually need a human mate, but she would keep his bed warm and perhaps give him children. Maybe, if he takes a human bride, his days won’t be so bleak. Right now, he continues living in the mountains with his horde to await the moment they can return home if the machine is ever rebuilt.
At the Institute where the brides learned about Orcs, the Captain chose Tara. He took her to the huge cave and was about to claim her, but she pushed him away and he decided not to force her. She stole an enchanted knife and, when the Orcs were used to her and didn’t watch her closely, she escaped and ran to the town to get her revenge. That is the only thing that mattered to her. But the Orcs were faster and caught her. She stabbed the knife in Rogan’s chest, but he removed it and threw her over his shoulder to take her back to the cave. She had failed. Her ex had gotten away with murdering her sister and ruining Tara’s life. Rogan intended to take his possession and she would have no choice anymore. Now what would she do? Would they lock her up? Would he use her for breeding without love and ignore her when he didn’t need her?
I am again impressed that the Orcs are so honorable, not at all like our preconceived notions of them as monsters. Will Rogan find out the truth, that Tara had not killed her sister? Would he protect her from the danger sneaking up on them?
Tara Caraway is sitting on death row when she is offered a chance to live. All she has to do is agree to become a tribute and become an orc bride. She figures she can bide her time once she is chosen an then make a run for it and find the person who framed her for murder. Then she can get revenge for her sisters murder. Rogan the gray doesn't really need a mate but there are few female orcs in the hordes, and he isn't sure how long it will take for the human scientists to rebuild the machine that opened the portals. So he decides to take a human bride to, if nothing else warm his bed, but hopefully she will have his children. Tara and Rogan have a rocky start, and soon settle into their life together. Unfortunately, they will find out that their secluded mountain home isn't as safe and they had assumed. Wonderfully well written, unique, and utterly fascinating characters. Loved em. Wow! Suspense, exciting action, magic, and a surprising twist that made it impossible to put this book down. Fantastic additions to a excellent series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I was actually quite fascinated by this enthralling monster romance & it definitely kept my attention until the end. The plot is entertaining & flowed smoothly throughout the storyline & has good world with splendid scene descriptions. The main characters (a fierce horde captain, Rogan the Grey) & (a rather feisty human female, Tara) are complex individual with realistic flaws & in the beginning they are inclined to be quite confrontational but develop good chemistry between them. Two of the secondary characters (a female orc, Sella) & (a human male, Sean) played excellent supporting roles. There is: Orcs, humans, mages, a orc council, orc hunters, a conniving ex-fiancé (Fynn), a institute for tribute brides, judgmental parents, humour, action, adventure, drama, suspense, intrigue, magic, secrets, deceit, betrayal, vengeful feelings, prejudices, defiance, friendship, comradery, determination, complications, attacks, violence, conflict, devious intentions, playfulness, happiness, love, contentment & a wonderful satisfying conclusion for this couple.
Tara has 2 choices - a death sentence or become an orc bride. She chooses what some humans consider a fate worse than death but plans to escape and find the person who framed her for a crime she didn't commit. Rogan the Gray is a warrior orc who wants a fertile mate to bear him children. Will Tara ever trust him? Will Rogan understand her need for justice? Worlds collide in this alien/human romance! Great story with likable, interesting characters that show a range of emotions and stay consistent in thought and action. The details of an alien species making a home on earth is realistically complicated. The story pulled me into the mystery & tension that comes from learning about new individuals and cultures. I like the way this entertaining action/adventure tale highlights the love that develops between 2 beings experiencing a connection they've never felt before. 5 stars

Orcs ended up on Earth due to human scientists building and using a machine they didn’t understand. The resulting portal pulled through the warrior orcs and led to years of war. Humans had numbers but orcs had magic - and nowhere to go since the scientists had panicked and destroyed the machine. Peace was arranged, with willing fertile human brides for the orcs as a condition. Tara ended up on death row for murdering her sister; her sister who slept with her fiancé. Tara insists she’s innocent but no-one believes her. When given the choice between death and becoming a bride she instantly chooses the orcs and a chance at revenge against the real murderer. Rogan is high ranking orc captain who picks Tara as his at first sight. It takes time and lots of misunderstandings, both serious and humorous, but Rogan and Tara learn that humans and orcs can indeed live happily ever after. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Tara has been falsely accused of killing her own sister and is on death row. The prison offers her a way out become an orc bride or execution. She's chooses becoming a bride. She believes it she can get out she can escape and make the person really responsible for killing her sister pay. Rogan is captain of his hoard and wants a mate and children so he decides to take a human bride. The minute he sees Tara he wants her. Her defiance sparks something in him he wants to dominate her and make he submit but he also wants her to want to be his. The beginning is a rough road neither is very giving. When Tara tries to flee and is caught the truth comes out their relationship changes and they become closer . Rogan makes sure she has justice and Tara truly becomes part of the hoard. But dangers from the outside still threaten their love and their people. Read and find out how they protect both! 💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥
This is the second book in the Orc series and really im just loving these books, Cara Wylde really knows how to draw in her audience with these wonderful Orcs.
Tara Caraway in imprison for the murder of her sister, she however gets a reprieve when she is given two choices, willingly offer herself as a tribute , or write down what she wants for her last menu. Choosing the first choice she is taken away. At the institute she attends the class. So when the Orcs come she is choosen by Rogan the Gray. It takes Tara a while to learn to accept Rogan and soon comes to care for him. But they are attacked by unknown who have two mages, can they find out who is behind all this before more get hurt.?
If you have read any of Caras books i just know you will absolutely love this one, she really is a master of writing!!!
This is the story of Tara, who was accused of a crime she didn't commit and Rogan. With her life hanging in the balance the only other offer that she is given is to effectively throw it away herself by becoming a tribute bride to an Orc. Not just any Orc a huge grey captain called Rogan no less. Tara learns quite quickly to love the life in the mountains although it takes a little longer for her to extend that to Rogan though. In the face of adversity they cling together against a group of rebels who are kean to keep the war between human and Orcs alive. Where does that leave them? Real action packed romance and proof that you should never judge a book by it's cover.... although if that cover says Orc and Cara Wylde, I'm buying it!

Tara is convicted of murdering her sister, a crime she did not commit and is sentenced to death. To avoid that penalty, she is given the opportunity to become an Orc Tribute. The Orcs won their war with Earth and as part of the spoils of war, human's need to offer fertile women to male Orcs as mates. Rogan is a warrior and captain of his tribe and chooses Tara as his mate. Orcs live a very basic, simple, wild life, and they are nothing that Tara is use to. But, they are clean, tidy, loyal, brave, and kind in their own way. Rogan decides to give her the chance to know them before pushing himself on her. The book is well written, mostly well paced, action packed, and steamy. I enjoyed this book as much as book1.

This is the second book in the Orc Mates series, and I loved it as much as I loved Vorgak the Cruel.
Tara is on death row for a murder she didn't commit... the murder of her younger sister. She is given the option to offer herself up as a tribute bride for the Orcs. She jumps at the chance thinking she'll run away after she's been chosen so she can find justice for her sister's murder... by her ex- fiancé.
What she doesn't expect is to actually fall in love with her Orc mate. Rogan and Tara find the Justice she seeked together and everything seems great until the horde is attacked by Orc hunters.
I thought this was a fabulous story and I can't wait to read more books in the Orc Mates series!! I loved Rogan and Tara's story!! Fabulous job!
This was a wonderful second book to the Orc Mates series. I’m really enjoying g this series -hope there’re are more to come!
Our human h Tara was believable with flaws I could relate to. I continue to be fascinated by these Orcs and the Orc culture, and Rogan was a steadfast and intriguing H. Tara made choices I didn’t agree with, but they seemed appropriate for her character. (And let’s be honest, she didn’t read Vorgak the Cruel, so her understanding and expectations about the Orcs were understandable.) After a rough go, in the beginning, things seem to settle down. But there’s more happening and it’s not all smooth happy endings. Mystery, adventure, tension. Lovely.
I’m looking forward to more and learning about these Orcs and their fascinating culture!
I received a copy of this book and voluntarily I’m leaving a review.
Wondeful, exciting and eventful story. After having enjoyed Vorgak the Cruel it was great to re visit these Orcs. I loved the characters. I felt for Tara and the loss of her sister to her X. To end up in prison for something she did not do. She is given the option to join the bride program and is chosen by Rogan the Gray. Their start together is tense but over time and revelations they grow and connect. Her X is found and forced to confess and does meet his end, eventually. They have threats to overcome and a new arrival to celebrate. I enjoyed Sella hooking up with her human Sean and hope we get more on them! Even Nakk. I feel he deserves his own mate at some point. Now I have to wait for the next in this great series. :)
I found this story to have detailed and in-depth world building, with the primary and secondary romance stories woven well throughout, where the first focused much more on the character and relationship development. This is not bad - I found myself interested in the world the author has built. I particularly enjoyed the secondary romance.
This story is female lead POV, well written and a genuinely interesting take on an alternate earth history. It is totally separate from the first - they merely exist in the same world and the characters appear not to know each other - meaning there are no barriers to enjoying it.

Tara has been sentenced to death for a crime she didn't commit. She can escape this by becoming an orc bride. Rogan the Gray has been stranded on Earth for four years, and thinks that he may never return home. With so few females of his own kind he picks a human bride. Tara and Rogan get of to a rocky start but as they learn more about each other things improve. But they have enemies they are not even aware off. This is a great story. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I look forward to reading the next in this series.

This has a lot going on... in the best possible way. There is betrayal, action, danger and love. The way the relationship between Tara and Rogan develops is wonderful. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series! Be executed or become a tribute bride for a monster. Tara chooses a chance for revenge as a tribute. Rogan just wants to protect his horde. He chooses Tara hoping for an heir. Things are contentious between them until she tells him the truth and he actually listenes. See just what Rogan and his horde can do when Tara is kidnapped. HEA is the best!

Tara is a c0nvict that elects to become a bride for the orcs. She knows she didn’t do what she was charged with but no one will believe her so why d1e for something she didn’t do? Instead she will live her life with an orc. She almost gets one that she doesn’t really want until a captain at the door claims her. Rogan is unlike his fellow orcs and is grey not green in color. That is a tale we find out later in the book. So didn’t see that coming. He is harsh and not very pleasant when they first get together. So this couple takes some time and after a failed escape on Tara’s part things settle into a get to know you and hey we click phase lol.
When Tara is found guilty of murder and sentenced to death her only option is to become a tribute bride to an Orc. After accidently opening a portal to the Orc world and being invaded by hordes of Orcs and being in a worldwide loosing war the human offer a peace treaty in exchange they will provide tribute brides to the Orcs because few females came through the portal. Rogan claims Tara as his bride. This is a wonderful story and I look forward to more in the series by Cara Wylde.

Tara has been sentenced to death for the murder of her sister. However, she didn't do it. When she is offered a chance to become a Tribute bride she takes it knowing her her chance to avenge her sister's death.
Life with the Orcs is different than she was expecting, but not in a bad way. There are challenges to overcome, but nothing she can't deal with. Sella is a great addition, and I really enjoyed her character. The conflict was a very different take from the first book in the series and I liked it a lot. I am loving this series a lot and can't wait for the next one.
The second book in the Orc Mates series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Tara Caraway has been sentenced to death for a crime she didn’t commit, then she is given a choice either death or become an Orc's mate. Rogan the Gray is the man who is to be her mate. We find out why he is gray and not green like other Orcs, and see them fall in love, and go through a lot of ups and downs as they get there. I enjoyed reading this story. This book 2 in The Orc Mates Book Series is an very well-written story with unique characters that are strong, full of personality and confident. These interesting characters are well crafted and you feel as if you know them and their emotions. This story has action, adventure, twists, turns, chemistry, and love. This is a must read story. This is a full, standalone novel with a happily-ever-after. The books in the Orc Mates series can be read in any order.

This was a good read. I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the first in the series. I found the characters to be amusing and fun to learn more about. The plot was great with ups and downs making it fun to read. I enjoyed watching the characters come together over the course of the story. I enjoyed this work and am enjoying this writer. I look forward to more by this author.
I give this a five out of five stars.

Rogan the Gray is book two in the series Orc Mates by author Cara Wylde. This story is incredibly addictive- the Orcs are vastly different and entertaining. The conflicts between the characters are quickly overcome- the naughtiness between them is delightful. The obstacles they face seem troubling- makes you wonder what’s in store for us in future books. In the end love is love- and yes it can conquer all. Enjoy!!
