More of the same, which is basically a good thing. If you've been exposed to any of these Short Stories for Learners books, you know what you're getting into.
The stories are somewhat more interesting than in the book for beginners, or at the very least they're written with more engaging language. That's not to say that the stories are good, they're still pretty boring, but they're clearly written in a way that gradually exposes you to new words and expressions. If you don't feel ready to jump into reading native materials, I think it's a good stepping stone.
Unlike in the beginner book, there are absolutely no accent marks in this book. To be fair, there were several incorrectly places accents, but it was still helpful to get a sense of the rhythm of the language. Since this is supposed to be a step up from that, I suppose it makes sense to drop them, but I wish they would at least have included them in the vocabulary lists.
Speaking of the vocabulary lists, it sometimes felt pretty darn random which terms were included in them. Some words were super simply, and something I'd expect any learner to know after using any kind of textbook. Other, more unusual, words were not listed. That was just my personal experience though, without any data on commonly used words backing me up.
Проще говоря, it's a book with short stories for learners. It's useful, but I'm not sure I agree it's particularly fun, despite what Olly claims.
Another great book. Having read the basic level, I noticed the following differences that made the texts intermediate: frequent usage of colloquial or figurative expressions, somewhat more difficult to remember but also important words for one's vocabulary and frequent sentences where a verb is in the Russian equivalent of the -ing form. While it is possible that I significantly improved my Russian, I didn't notice much of a difference in the stories' complexity, but it is possible that my expectations were set higher. Hopefully there is an advanced book.
Эта книга очень полезна для тех, кто изучает Русский язык. Книга состоится нескольких, коротких рассказов, начиная в уровне B1 и заканчивая в уровне B2/C1. Вы встретите много новых слов, которые регулярно повторяют сквозь все рассказы, чтобы помочь вам их выучить.
Сами истории различаются по степени удовольствия, но настоящее удовлетворение приносит от прогресса, которого вы достигнете. На самом деле, мне очень трудно судить о качестве написанного.
Leap between lst book and this perhaps too ambitious. Could have used an interim level or second beginners. Stories are also a bit too long vs having more, shorter texts.
great practice for reading comprehension. The stories came with pictures which helped set the scene. But the stories themselves were entertaining and just the right amount of challenging.
