Teacher and Fran arrive at the Beastman Nation to find the fabled Black Cat who trained Rigdith, but their quest is interrupted by a run-in with some monsters! Fran easily dispatches them, but those monsters were being pursued by a strange, white-haired cat girl. She's outraged that Fran swiped her quarry, outraged enough to challenge Fran to a duel! Can Fran and Teacher resolve this without bloodshed, or is the fur about to fly?
This volume has a REALLY SHITTY non-ending. This is the 2nd book in my life I've ever encountered where there is no ending. It's not cliffhanger, it's not "unsatisfactory" it's just unfinished, what a shitty publisher.
This is an automatic fail, a product that's not finished sent out to market, what a waste of time and money.
Love his work but this book ends abruptly in the middle of the story. Not even an author afterward like normal. Guessing he had to split it and didnt find a way to wrap up the first half in a satisfying manner. Disappointing but i am looking forward to the next book.
The first 75% of the story is more of Fran's travel journal on her way to and in the capital of the Beastlands. The last 25% is one big battle. Since I am more of a fan of the travel journal, I really enjoyed the first part. The end was a bit of disappointment, not necessarily because of the cliff-hanger ending, but simply because it is a long drawn out fight with an ending that is fairly typical for the series. Can Fran ever rescue herself? Other then that, it was an entertaining read with the occasional eyeroll but that is no different from earlier parts.
Okay. This one was great. It starts out a bit slow, as Fran reaches the Beastman Continent, and kind of just wanders around a bit, but it gets pretty good when she goes to the village of her people and tries to get them to be more than the stigma attached to their race. Then gets incredibly epic when an army of monsters comes by to exterminate them and Fran fights to give them time to evacuate. This is the best book this series has had since the first few.
The first half felt like a long transition, which was a bit difficult to get into, especially since it's been a while since I read the last volume, and it starts very straight as a follow-up. It does build into a nice story and a cool battle. I was hoping Mea would show up again sooner, since she shares the cover and all, but I guess we'll know more about her and her maid later.
A 7hr audio book. Start of this book was a bit difficult to get into but by the end it all makes up for it, the fighting and ideas used were nice. I did find the humor in they finally used some skills they have not used in a book or two that I think were needed. Overall, I enjoyed the book and wonder if they will ever get this far in the anime... most likely not.
