I really wondered why I ended up buying this manga, when I read the first two volumes. I thought the drawings were chaotic, the story fragmented and I really didn't make sense of the characters. Things started to straighten out after the 3rd volume. At the end, I actually thought the manga had developed for the better - although I still think that this is not a masterpiece. I think the characters remain quite flat (there is some minor development when we talk of Shino) and there are often jumps and episodes in the story that do not provide much to the storytelling - rather, it raises some question marks that, according to me, are not answered. I guess there is a point with all of those, but it is not obvious.
I think the most interesting part of the story is volume 4. It is a talented flashback (and novel) that gives a bit more of depth and context and finally prepare for the leap that is volume 5. The metaphor with the plants is brilliant - and the drawings are so intense at times that it feels one can breath in the smells of those flowers and leaves. Somewhat, it recalls the usage of water and fishes in "Supplement" of Osazaki. The natural elements are not just a decoration for enriching each page, but they have a strong connection with the main characters and their feelings, and although it appears to be quite trivial, it is not at all.
It requires to bite through the first volumes, according to me, then it is definitely worthy reading. But maybe it requires to be read few times in calm and peace, to be able to grasp all the details and understanding some of the subtleness that I probably perceive as confusionary.
as much as shino pissed me off in the first volume when she knew fully well kyōshirō was living w his gf n yea akari had her own issues n all but idk….. love is so tricky n for someone who was in a relationship w someone who ultimately didnt even love her like she loved him ig when u start to develop feelings for someone new who pays attention u, u abandon all reason… ofc im not excusing her but a pathetic beautiful woman who just wants love n be loved n i cant help but feel like im being represented… its complicated but one of my favorite series & my favorite main character.

The story of a breakup and the journey to find meaning in one's life. Shino manages to live without being with anyone. She reunites with Kyo. They still love each other. No real ending, does Shino imagine a happy ending? Or will she remain independent of men?
