Rhia (FMC) is such a mix of contradictions in this book. That's what makes her a compelling character. She's much more than her submissive persona that she comes across with in her new job in a sex club. One which is owned by The Kings - Sevastyan, Lucian, Roman and Matteo. Who are in themselves not good men. They have their own back stories too. There's an engaging dynamic between all of them which is a mixture of mistrust, lies, secrets and sex. It's definitely dark and seductive. It draws you in and takes you on one hell of a roller coaster ride of a read. Dark Mafia Kings is a brilliant read and I'll be on tenterhooks until the next book now

Rhia is a young woman trying to find answers to who murdered her father. In her search, she ends up working at a BDSM sex club, Haven, that is owned by the 4 mafia brothers known as the dark Kings of Chicago. Sevastyan, Lucian, Matteo, and Roman are looking for the person who killed Sevastyan’s brother, Mikhail. The brothers see Rhia and are immediately attracted to her. This story was set up in a way that screamed it’s potential to be hot and sexy, but just ended up flopping. This series could have been epic if it were made into a 3 or 4 part series that took more time to develop each sexual and emotion relationship between heroine and each individual man, actually utilized the sex club setting and bdsm play that was introduced but not used, and had a well rounded ending that gave the reader closure in all aspects.

This duet had the makings to be really good but never reached its full potential. I didn’t care for the 3rd person omniscient pov- it felt impersonal and removed. There wasn’t nearly enough romantic or erotic scenes in general, but especially with each individual male character, which left their individual relationships under developed- so much more could have been done with these characters. This book reminded me of a knock version of Den of Vipers. Unlike these two books, Den of Vipers gave the heroine much more individual time with each male character to grow and develop their unique relationships through sex and conversation, and then bringing that all together in group scenes. The premise of the sex club and bdsm was extremely under utilized and neglected. The author introduced this type of play but never allowed the characters to indulge in it. Example: the majority of the story takes place in this lucrative sex club with voyeurism and bdsm themes being at our finger tips when the characters are watching random public "scenes" play out or having the heroine watch them and comment how it makes her feel, yet not once during these two books does she partake in any of the sex club play- story might as well have taken place in a regular club. There was too much irrelevant rambling and over describing and not enough sexy and erotic scenes in general. It’s interesting because these books were background story heavy, yet so much was under-developed and left out- for example: what happened with her brothers and the detective that helped her? What happened with Sevastyan’s dad who the author alluded to being the head of the snake? I’m over all disappointed as the premise of this story was promising but was so under developed that it was a waste of time to read.

A Riveting and Wylde New Series!
This is book one of a two book series written by one of my most favorite authors, Penelope Wylde. This storyline is about two Murder mysteries set in Chicago and involves two organized crime families (that we know of), the Russian Volkov Family and the Irish Carmichael Family. In this book it is getting to know the four Kings (Sevastyan, Lucian, Roman, Matteo), who have been friends since childhood (and who now own the Haven, “Chicago’s most exclusive sex club”. It is there we find Rhia, who works under false pretenses as one of the hostesses. She is working on one of the murders unbeknownst to the Kings. And Rhia is unaware of what the men of been focusing on…the other murder and there may be more.
The Kings are smart and they share everything including women, and Rhia is no exception. It is because of this no exception, clues are found and Rhia is drawn in deeper which could threaten her life. And therein lies the cliffhanger for book two to resolve.
I immensely enjoyed book one. I found it surprisingly fast moving and kept me hanging on for more. I highly recommend this first book in the two book series. PEACE.

The book starts with Rhia hunting for the person who murdered her father. Her investigation leads her to Haven. A “seggs” club run by the Dark Mafia Kings: Sevastyan, Matteo, Lucian, and Roman. Rhia starts working at the club and finds some information about her father. While investigating, her relationship with the kings begins.

Overall, this book had me interested from the prologue. The prologue set the tone of the book. Rhia is definitely an amazing character. She is taking a huge risk in looking for the person who killed her father.

There are definitely a lot more questions then there are answers in this book. This book is more about establishing the relationship between Rhia and her men with some investigating of what happened to Rhia’s father and Sevastyan’s brother. The book is definitely worth a read if you like a strong female character who takes these men to their knees.

I am giving this book 4 stars because I feel like there should have been more to the story. I felt like this book was more about establishing the relationship between Rhia and her men with minimal information about what truly happened.

Embracing Targets

Dark Mafia Kings, an age-gap reverse harem romance duet, that opens with a bloody prologue, the death of Mikhail Volkov

Sevastyan Volkov, setting to right the wrongs his brother and father dug themselves into. Taking the helm with his most trusted men; Luciano, Roman, and Matteo. Making the four Mafia Kings of Chicago.

Rhia, on the hunt for her father's killer, working at Haven, an exclusive BDSM club owned by the four who in turn are using it to find Mikhail's killer. As the four take Rhia into their embraces, it places a target on her.

I feel some parts of the "who is who" mystery is easy to pin point. The storyline was different, but a bit fit difficult to get into; it would take a bit to work out whose POV the chapter was in. There is also a need for another edit review overall; glaringly numerous grammar and spelling issues. Plus, I swear it flip-flopped from the prologue where Mikhail was the older brother to within the storyline it said he was the youngest.

Storyline overall was a four, but with the need for editing and the flip-flop, I gave it a three.

Good

I have to say, I wasn't expecting much from this book. Yes, it'd be fun and most likely toe curling. But the story plot was great. So many secrets and fighting against their desires, it had me smiling and eager to see what happens next. Warning, the book doesn't have a lot of action. There's secrets, lies, and a mystery they crave to solve. There is a dark side to the characters, but overall it's good people doing what they have to do to solve a murder. Example of the darkness is the fact the female protagonist doesn't know if the main men are going to kill her or bed her most of the time. The most interesting part is the small hints given throughout the story have me eager to read what happens. I recommend you check it out if you like dark romance.

“Standing at the Devil’s gate,” Rhia can observe all the sensually erotic activities around her while performing her duties as a hostess at Haven, but when she catches the eye of Sevastyan Volkov as well as the other three equally devastating Russian mobster bosses, she will be hard pressed to continue carrying out her secretive mission. With grave club matters already requiring their focused attention, all they needed in the mix was a delicious female employee who seems to raise even more red flags…So so looking forward to continuing this story!

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. The first book in the duet is full of mystery, drama, denial, secrets, conflicticted feelings, defiance, and lust. Rhia and the men are connected thru murder. Things are complicated regardless of which side you view it from. Lines blur then are crossed by all five. Working at Haven puts Rhia right in the middle of things, including the Kings. Looking forward to the next book, Queen, to get some answers and hopefully their happy ending.

I'm hooked

Really excited for the next book. Steamy and aggressive, just like I like it. Only issues I have....in the beginning I was seriously almost about to quit the book. Over detailed of unimportant stuff. Sbe was building the scene but took too long. I almost quit the book bc I was like "ok.....story starting soon???" Glad I didn't. Also girl-cream? Girl-c@m? Just cLl it what it is. I would get into a scene and those words would stop me in my tracks. It took a steamy scene and like chucked ice cubes at it. Liking the story so keep going bit for the love of God just call ot cream or c@m. Don't put girl in front of it and make it sound like the character is 14 please?!

Dark Mafia Kings is the first book in this duet which features Rhia, who is posing as a hostess working at Haven which is the hottest erotic club in Chicago while trying to solve one of two murder mysteries, and the Four Kings, who are the owners of the club and Russian mob bosses who are trying to solve the other murder. The four kings take an interest in Rhia as they like to share everything. Clues are revealed about the murders. This well written book has amazing characters, mystery, suspense, and sizzling sexual chemistry. The second book in the duet, Dark Mafia Queen, continues this story.

Stop what you are reading and read this! If you are thinking about this book... just get it! This was an excellent book! Ms. Penelope marked all my boxes with this book. This was a complete page turned for me as I could barely put it down. This is only book one of two for Sevastyan, Lucian, Roman, Matteo, and Rhia's story and I can't wait for the second book! I would HIGHLY recommend this book and Ms. Penelope as a truly gifted author.

There is action, suspense, danger and a whole lot of steam in this first part of the duet. I can't wait for the next book.

Secrets and Revelations

Sevastyan is trying to find his brothers killer while Rhia wants those who killed her father to pay. Her secrets and the intimate connection she has to the four mafia kings' results in more danger and complications. This first part of the duet ends with a cliffhanger that would reveal more than what they all expected. It was a suspenseful rad and I am highly anticipating the next installment.

Pending the 2nd book

I really don't know what the 'age gap' is used for bc it never really came up. The prologue makes little to no sense and almost stopped me from continuing further. So far I am hoping that the second book is the meat of a strong story bc up to the end of this book it really drops off. I do get annoyed with anger-lust but I am again hoping that turns around quickly.

Started good but flopped

The story started with a bang in the prologue. Then went bust after that. Ooh a sex club. And an employee searching for something….once. The story line was practically abandoned. More characters are introduced and the ones from the beginning seem to be developing multiple personality disorder. I have ADD and can jump topics like a champ and this was so bad it made my head spin. Pick a lane. Seriously.

Great story

Great story line and enthralling to read. Though it is also very much rated r in terms of topic. But despite this, I had to take a star off due to some major editing and proofreading flaws as there was several typos and sentences that didn’t really make sense unless you read them a few times. However overall a great book and I can’t wait to see how the story develops in the second book.

Dark romance, RH, age gap, and mafia
I think this was a great beginning for this duet. It pulled me in right away and kept me wanting more!
It was filled with mystery, secrets, danger, drama, tension, and some spice.
This book focuses a lot on the set up of the story as well the relationships between our FMC, (Rhia) and the mafia kings.

Overall, I think it was a great read and I look forward book 2!! I definitely have lots of questions!!

Sexual Tension

Lots of sexual tension and hot moments throughout the book. The four deadly guys who claim Rhia become aware of who she is they're all overcome by her beauty and grace and decide to let things ride out to see what she does, but not for too long. Loved Sevastayn in fact i loved all the guys Matteo Roman Lucian and Sevastyan. Hurry up the next book I'm in need 😍😍😍😍

Phew! Oh my.

I'm not usually one for dark or mafia books, but I'm a fan of Penelope's, so I read it anyway. Is it hot? Oh yes. Twisted? Just enough. Does it leave you having? Yessss, but in a delicious way. I cannot wait to see how this story plays out, I just know Rhia and her men will have to fight for their HEA with everything they have.

I thought maybe the author made a mistake and uploaded the wrong book. Idk 🤷‍♀️ maybe book 2 will be better.
