This book is very interesting. I think it is a good reminder to know the kind of people we associate with in our daily life as well as who are to others. I would recommend this book for everyone to read.
I found the book to be interesting and was able to think of associated personalities of friends and family for most of the various types of people outlined. I didn't take too much away from it, but it was clarifying and slightly empowering, which are always nice.
The Power of the People: Four Kinds of People Who Can Change Your Life, by Dr. Verna Price is an amazing self-help book that will leave you spiritually and emotionally awakened. But only if you are ready to experience a journey of self-discovery. If you will not allow yourself to become vulnerable enough to endure the emotional roller coaster ride of self-discovery…then buy the book and place it on your book shelf until you are ready. Also consider buying the book for someone who is ready to take the journey before you. Dr. Price informs the reader of the four kinds of people who influence your life: adders, subtracters, multipliers and dividers. Adders bring positive influence into your life without strings attached and are genuinely interested in helping you become a whole, well-rounded and balanced person. Subtracters do exactly what the math say they do, take your money, goods and resources because they don’t really care about who you are, but more about what you have that they can take and use for themselves. Watch out for subtracters, who are messy little devils who want your life to become as dramatic as theirs. Then there are the great multipliers, who are the most powerful because their influence is to increase, double, magnify blessings in your life. Lastly like the thief in the night, comes the tricky, manipulating and deceptive dividers. Dividers ultimately want to control your life, portray a sense of entitlement personality, are intimidated by competence and are the most dangerous people of all. The Power of the People: Four Kinds of People Who Can Change Your Life, allow the reader to reflect upon the people in your inner circle within your life. To discover what influences these people bring into your life, how to get rid of or minimize interactions with subtracters and dividers and what are the qualities of adders and multipliers to increase their presence in your life. Before I read this book I knew who the adders, subtracters, multipliers and dividers where in my life. Through reading the book I added people that I didn’t even consider in each of those categories. I had to become honest with myself to discover that I had too many “Just Is” people in my life (those are who Dr. Price considers people we DO NOT choose to be in our lives such as parents, siblings and relatives) and not enough “Choice” people (those are who Dr. Price considers people we DO choose to be in our lives such as friends, mentors or pastors). Over the last 3 years I have slowly removed myself from “Just Is” folk and GOD has blessed me with a multitude of “Choice” folk to replace them, such as my Public Ally Twin Cities cohort. Even though I am an adder and multiplier in many people’s lives I had to be honest with myself to discover that I have been a subtracter and probably considered a divider as well. I highly recommend reading this book as a way to continue to learn about yourself. It is to be read and reread when you feel you have lost yourself or need a refresher on the adders, subtracters, multipliers and dividers in your life. Be committed to your personal growth. Be vulnerable enough to see who is holding you back and who is pushing you forward. Be brave enough to take this journey. You wont regret it. I sure haven’t.
