For Diane Goldner, what began as an investigative story for The New York Times, became a four-year pilgrimage into the thriving yet controversial world of energy healing in America. Her report, How People Heal, serves as both an introduction to this world, and an engrossing narrative featuring in-depth portraits of healers Barbara Brennan and Rosalyn Bruyere. Goldner spent hours alongside these spiritual and savvy women witnessing their healing work, while casting a critical eye at the business side of their organizations. How People Heal also introduces you to physicists mapping the effects of love and desire across time and space, nurses using therapeutic touch on hospital patients, and heart surgeons using energy medicine in the operating room. Most important, you'll meet Jonathan Kramer, Doris Dennard, Marilyn Schneider, and others like them, whose lives and life-threatening illnesses have been transformed by the work of energy healers. How People Heal is the trade paper edition of the 1999 hardcover Infinite Where the Worlds of Science and Spiritual Healing Meet. How People Heal takes you

Very interesting and thought-provoking, also highly convincing about how subtle energy is the next frontier in science! Having read quite a bit of fantasy and speculative fiction, the parts about energy work leading to communicating with everyday objects and innocent living things such as flowers was very intriguing and made me wonder if the authors that locked into these themes were actually proponents of the practices described in this book! (For example, the Stormlight Archive and the connections the protagonists make with spren.) Toward the end, felt a little let down by the subjectivity (notably, the part about Flow and light energy), but brought up again by mention of the academically rigorous work done by the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research lab. Still, inspires me to read more on the subject and look out for new advances on this front. Amazing!
Alternative or complementary therapies are becoming more popular. More and more people have either been to one of these specialists for a health care concern or know of a friend or relative that has. For the most part, the results are positive. Like any other profession, you’ll have people who are good at their work and those just there for a buck. Their results speak for themselves.
Still, there seems to be a bit of a stigma attached to alternative healing. The majority of people don’t understand how the process actually works so it all seems a little mystic. In reality, these techniques are no more magical than x-rays, ultrasounds, or laser eye surgeries. We may not be able to see these energy waves but then we can’t see radio waves either. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
How People Heal looks to understand the process of subtle energy healing. This book is fairly well balanced sharing both stories of first hand experiences and a slightly more scientific analysis.
