Secrets locked away in cages can’t tell stories...
After military veteran turned FBI agent Amelia Storm and her partner Zane bust a child porn ring run by one of Chicago’s premier mob families, two of the four men involved are dead—one by his own hand, the second by Amelia's. A third is in jail awaiting trial... if he lives that long.
The fourth man caught on camera taking advantage of helpless children is still a mystery, though they've learned one important thing about him... he’s a detective in the Chicago Police Department. Soon, they learn he’ll do anything to keep his secret safe.
Amelia is determined to hunt down the dirty cop and make him pay for what he’s done. But as the investigation mounts, Amelia grows increasingly troubled by her role in the death of the mobster behind it all, second-guessing if it was justified. When she’s partnered with a witness to the shooting, she’s drawn into a web of intrigue where no one is innocent, and everyone has blood on their hands.
From the dark minds of Mary Stone and Amy Wilson comes Storm’s Cage, book three of the Amelia Storm Series, where you’ll be looking over your shoulder, wondering who to trust.
Nestled in the tranquil Blue Ridge Mountains of East Tennessee, Mary Stone has transformed her peaceful home, once bustling with her sons, into a creative haven. As her family grew, so did her writing career, evolving from childhood fears to a deep understanding of real-life villains. Her stories, centered around strong, unconventional heroines, weave themes of courage and intrigue.
Mary's journey from a solitary writer to establishing her own publishing house marks a significant evolution, showcasing her commitment to the literary world. Through her writing and publishing endeavors, she continues to captivate and inspire, honoring her lifelong fascination with the mysterious and the courageous.
This series has gotten progressively worse. The story line is simply more of the same from the previous book. And really, a hyper alert former sniper FBI agent is not going to notice all these cameras/mics hidden in her home? Not even in the shower?! Does she not clean?
And she’s not going to think to record a harassing conversation with a skeezy coworker who is repeatedly coming on to her? And the ADA then just falls in bed and engages in pillow talk with same skeez? Please.
This series started by focusing on strong women, and then just turned them into stereotypes. What a waste of my time.

What happened to this book? The previous two in the series weren't perfect, but they were at least interesting stories with a sense of urgency. This was just tedious and sloppy, and the characters behaved in some of the dumbest ways I've seen.
People snorted so often I started to think I was reading about a pig farm. And these two lines made me scratch my head: "As the newest Creedence Clearwater Revival tune — one of the few bands he and Amelia could agree on — came to an end…" then later, "As the newest Creedence Clearwater Revival tune faded out…"
Um, was there a CCR reunion that I missed? As far as I know, their "newest" song released in the 1970s.
There are dangling participles all over the place so you have things like eyeballs stretching and shrugging.
Then there's the story. No sense of urgency in this one at all. And...
I was already hooked on this series from the first book I read. Mary Stone is definitely going places. I'm enjoying the series thus far. I'm hoping to see much much more from this author. She has a great writing style.
This series just gets better and better. The character development and the tangents just keep improving. I get really invested in the story and the characters and cannot wait for the next instalment - such a cliff hanger. I was in a conflict I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened in the end but did not want it to end.
This is a definite must read but you would need to read the books in order to truly appreciate the storyline.
I was given an advance copy by the author but the review is entirely my own.
The writing is great as usual but I struggled with the bad guys outsmarting our FBI Agents Amelia and Zane at every turn. FBI Sleezeman (my name for him) needs to go down, not making Amelia out to be a fool. How this one ended looks like this will continue on in the next book. In the scales of justice the evil is outweighing the good. I need to scales to start tipping the other way and for Amelia to start kicking some bad guys asses.
‘Military veteran turned FBI special agent Amelia Storm returns to her corrupt hometown of Chicago to avenge her brother’s death, becoming an unstoppable force that exposes the city’s darkest secrets while solving its most dangerous crimes.’
Storm's Cage is Book #3 in the Amelia Storm Series by Mary Stone. This series turned out to be a fast-moving mix of crime, suspense, and personal drama that was so easy to get hooked on. I have been devouring my way through Ms. Stone’s series/books for a while now, and can always count on her to deliver an engrossing read, and this series didn’t disappoint. The books follow Amelia Storm, a military veteran turned FBI Special Agent, as she tackles dangerous cases that often hit close to home - especially after returning to her corrupt hometown of Chicago. Amelia is the heart of the series. She’s smart, determined, and unafraid to push boundaries, but she’s also human, carrying the weight of past trauma and personal loss. That balance of toughness and vulnerability makes her feel real and very relatable. The pacing is quick, the dialogue sharp, and the settings are vivid enough to pull you right into all the action. Each book works as its own mystery - but reading them in consecutive order lets you see not only Amelia’s growth but also the bigger story threads unfolding over the series. If you like strong female leads, gritty investigations, and thrillers that mix action with emotional depth, then this series is the one for you. Happy Reading…
Fans of Catherine Coulter's Savich & Sherlock are sure to love Amelia & Zane.
📚Adult, for subject matter: human trafficking, pedophiles, prison violence, sexual harassment 🎭Stone & Wilson keep playing with my emotions, like a harp player plucks cords, keeping me flipping pages until I'm suddenly at the end! 📖In Storm's Cage, ex-military FBI Special Agent Amelia Storm gets pulled from partner SA Zane Palmer's side & thrown into close quarters with the lecherous, deceitful SA Joseph Larson, while hunting the 4th faceless man in the previously busted child pornography ring: a Chicago police officer! The truth of Amelia's brother's demise comes to light, a threat against Zane's past rises when he inadvertently peaks the interest of a Machiavellian businessman, and they start losing witnesses when an insidious villan starts tying up loose ends. The race to get answers had me flipping pages like caffeine charged super-flipper, all while seeing it unfold not only through Amelia and Zane's eyes, but also through the depraved and desperate ones they are surrounded by. The twists keep coming, and the hook at the end... wow, just wow! As is the norm for these authors, this series reads like a continuing FBI TV series, and I can't wait for the next book to drop in May!
🗒I received this as an ARC, and chose to leave an honest review.
Everyone has a past. Some of are past has been hidden and colored by the years. The more recent past may be lurking near under a veil of tears. No matter, our past us always ready to escape its chains and upend our lives. Storm has many secrets and many fears from her "before". Returning to Chicago has brought these to the forefront and impacts her life, making her question her choices and her actions.
Storm's partner also has secrets from the past. A history hidden under layers of subterfuge and bureaucracy. A past best left behind. After Zane and Storm solve a trafficking case, they are split up for their next investigation: Zane to partner with Glenn in delving into financial and communications records through cyberspace; Storm to partner with Joe in the investigation of an officers murder and the hunt for a dirty cop.
While operating without Zane's solid supportive backing, Storm is faced with the manipulative and demeaning personality of her assigned partner as well ad ghosts of her past. But, she's a trained military veteran...so, no problem - she can handle it all. Or can she?
5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT! Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2021 I love every book Mary Stone has written. Each one surpasses the one before it. Storm's Cage brings reminders of important points in the last book smoothly. Right away we see more of Joseph Larson's character. He has a larger role this time. I love how the books in this series move from one to the next like I am reading one long book. The characters grow, relationships strengthen or weaken, and new characters keep the plot line fresh. In Storm's Cage, Amelia and Zane are assigned to separate cases. Amelia is paired with Joseph Larson who continues his blackmail attempt against Amelia. Zane works with a new character who fits right in. I hope to see more of her in future books. The plot is extensive and involves several new characters making this an exciting read. Events will continue in the next book and I expect that book to be even more exciting to read.
I love getting the new books as they come out. I get so excited and they are so good I can't put them down. So exciting ! So many twists and turns. No can't stop. I carry it with me until that last page hits me in the face where it says The End. These books give me such a high, but when they end I have to say goodbye until the next release of a new book.a I feel like I'm saying goodbye to friends. The characters are so well developed and believable. The main ones follow through each book. The dialogue flows freely and smoothly. I did notice a few spelling or grammatical error. Not enough to distract from the storyline. Unlike other books of this author's series there were a few sexual references. So I recommend this book to any adult that enjoys this genre. Can't wait for the next one to come out in May.
Storm’s Cage, book three in the series, is another winner for Mary Stone and Amy Wilson. Amelia and Zane are looking for a corrupt Chicago detective that was part of the child porn ring, they busted in the last book. Due to several things going on, Amelia is assigned to work with Joseph Larson to track the corrupt detective down. Joseph Larson knows Amelia questions herself about killing one of the bad guys and since he backed her up as a witness, he uses this to blackmail Amelia. All I have to say is get ready to be angry and want him gone.
Zane’s past may be catching up to him and we are slowing getting more information on him. Zane is also partnered with someone new in this book.
Some things are brought to a conclusion during the book; however, the ending is well, you need to read the book to find out. I recommend reading the books in order so you will know and understand the characters.
I love everything about these books. It's got every thing to get me coming back for more. I feel like I'm in Chicago. I was in the corn maize. I have a feeling Storm is in for a world of hurt and not just because Zane was CIA and in undercover in Russia and she hadn't any clue about it. I hope she nails Larson's balls to the wall!! What a creep! I think we readers should get A copy of all Storm's jokes! I think they are funny. I laughed so hard at the thought of Hub flushing the toilet was the best! Who ever is coming up with this stuff is my hero!
Seriously finding it hard to put my kindle down reading about Amelia Storm and her challenges with crime and colleagues within the FBI. I'm on my 4th book now (Storm's Ruin). The story flows and and you get wrapped up, so much so, you want to get involved :O). Amelia has quite a background and so does Zane (her colleague) and is there possibly a romance? Don't know, but the books are full of surprises and dark turns. If you haven't picked up a Mary Stone book yet, you really are missing out!!
Another good story, but it doesn't really take the series any further. Feels to me like this and the previous book could have been combined into one volume because there's a lot of filler here. Some good scenes and Zane's a great character - probably more interesting then Amelia - which is what keeps me coming back to this series, but as usual the ending resolves nothing and ends on a cliffhanger even worse then the previous one. Definitely a series I'd only buy if it were on sale.
The intensity never stops in this 3rd book in the Amelia Storm series. She’s a heroine with integrity, strength and courage… but that only threatens the shady, disgusting coworker and makes him determined to break her. When his initial efforts don’t work, we realized he’s not finished yet. Got to get the next book to see how she figures him and his plan out… and turns the tables.
Do you enjoy books that literally make your heart pound? This one did that to me. It’s 4am and I literacy didn’t put the book down once I started. Excellent writing with well-developed characters. Side note: I haven’t hated the bad guy in a book so much since Dr K in one of Ms. Stone’s other series.
This is the third book in the Amelia Storm series. The storyline incorporates a dirty cop, a dangerous stalker, and a blackmail plot. This book has many twists and turns, several characters are provided new investigative challenges and the readers are presented with a shocking ending. Mary Stone and Amy Wilson do not disappoint! Another enjoyable read, can’t wait to see what happens next.
I chose this heading because that's the way I felt about the book. I could feel Amelia's outrage at finding this dungeon of horrors ... Child trafficking is so in the news today! Glad for her reaction to her invite to dinner by her co-cop, he still things he has her but she is to smart for him. Can't wait for next edition!!!
Its not only the social part of the cartels that get to everyone and thing. The cartels or the mob of old have gotten worse over the years if that's possible. One or two of the families have stopped with the harsh things such as drugs, murder and other vices to do cyber theft. But when you find politicians, police, and even FBI agents working for them watch out.
Not very many authors really suck me into a book to where I feel the emotions like I am one of the characters. Joseph makes my skin crawl and I want to shudder. Zane is the guy you wish you had in your own life. The emotions and well written plots that cross over from one book to the next keep you reading. I can’t put these books down.
2.5 rounded up to 3. I really feel like I've read these books before. Such similar plots between Storm, Winter and Autumn. I will read another because I have bought the entire series but I hope like hell we get over the creepy, misogynistic male character in the next book. We've done this for 2 series already!
Tho a well wrote book this could been wrapped up in the last book. Starting each book with a new issue would be better than dragging out things. Don't get me wrong this is a well wrote book of fiction. Stop dragging out things that can be resolved in one book for a whole series.
In this book you discover how the mafi controlled the various police departments. It was interesting how the characters in this book went about pointing the evidence the way they wanted protecting themselves. While we don't want to believe this can happen I'm sure in some areas it may. The ending was good in that the right killer got caught.
Agent Amelia Storm has the perseverance and strength to concur the most corrupt people. She has the instincts, integrity and will to clear the city of some of the worst criminals. I enjoy the relationship she and Zane have developed and the battle she and Joseph have ongoing. I can’t wait to read the next book!
I love the way the author keeps my attention to the point that I can’t put it down till I’m done or fall asleep. So far every book in this series is that way and I have to give each one a five star rating. Great work Mary Stone. I recommend to all my friends.
After he had just killed four young girls, Amelia shot the man suspected of killing a reporter. Since this was in the line of duty a hearing was held to determine if it was " a good shot ". To her surprise another agent backed her up. The trouble was he was using it to blackmail her.
I actually didn't finish this book. I couldn’t keep up with the characters and didn't remember who was whom from the first two books. I also didn't get a sense of the story going anywhere. The sexual tension was a bit heavy-handed. Had all of the sex content been removed, the book would have been shorter, and the storyline would not have suffered one bit.
I'm not a fan of how fmc is not determined and strong in dealing with blackmail. It could have been written with more distinction in her behavior separate from her thought. This would have retained her strength while still showing the inner turmoil. Instead of running hot and cold with her behavior-giving false hope
Excellent book I love reading the series of yours. I am now on book 3. I can’t wait to finish reading the rest. They are all excellent again. I said that ha ha ha ha but the type of book you’d love to have a cup of hot chocolate when it’s snowing outside and then your couch and reading can’t get better than that.
