The Pen: Sultan's Wisdom

Rate this book
Harold wanted a better life. He wanted a life that would free him from the shackles of his mundane existence. He wanted freedom, love, and a life that made his soul soar high. But how could he obtain those things? The surprising solution lay in an antique pen Harold purchased. At first, he thought he would just write down his thoughts, but he soon discovered the pen had a mind of its own. The pen took over, forcing Harold to write what it wanted, using a beautiful curly script in a language he didn’t understand.Soon he found himself writing—and translating—the thousand-year-old story of the Bedouin Al-Hamid Akbar, a man who rose from his existence as a street urchin and thief to becoming a sultan esteemed by all. Al-Hamid’s life was filled with excitement, including his escape from slavery, facing crocodiles on the Nile, battles with Bedouin tribes, and finding the love of his life. But most importantly, Al-Hamid’s life provided Harold with solutions to change his own. When he sleeps, he dream-travels back to Al-Hamid’s time, where he sees, touches, feels everything as if he is really there, because he is.Set in 1920s Edinburgh, The Pen is a great adventure story, and a blend of fiction and personal development. Dennis Galloway takes readers on a journey to discover ancient wisdom to transform our current lives, yet we won’t need a magical pen to make those positive changes happen.

I picked up The Pen: Sultan’s Wisdom thinking it would be a light fantasy read, but it turned out to be so much more. Dennis Galloway masterfully blends time travel, historical adventure, and quiet life wisdom into a story that feels both ancient and deeply personal. Watching Harold walk beside Al-Hamid experiencing fear, courage, love, and transformation was genuinely moving. This book doesn’t just entertain; it gently challenges you to reflect on your own choices. A rare kind of story that stays with you long after the final page.

I went into The Pen: Sultan’s Wisdom expecting a light fantasy adventure, but it turned out to be much more meaningful than I anticipated. Harold’s discovery of the enchanted pen is not just a fun twist, it becomes the gateway to a powerful, emotional story about Al-Hamid, a boy who rises from street urchin to a respected sultan.

This book blends adventure and life lessons really well. The magical pen idea immediately hooked me, but it was Al-Hamid’s journey that kept me turning the pages. The desert setting, the danger, the personal growth, it all felt vivid and engaging. It’s a story that entertains but also makes you reflect on your own choices. A thoughtful and enjoyable read.

Such a creative concept! The way the pen forces Harold to write a story from centuries ago was really unique. Al-Hamid’s transformation was inspiring, and I liked how his experiences ended up helping Harold change his own life. It has adventure, heart, and a nice message about taking control of your destiny. Definitely worth reading.

I enjoyed this book more than I expected. It’s simple, but it carries real depth. Al-Hamid’s journey from thief to respected leader was my favorite part full of trials, but full of growth too. The story feels almost like a fable, with nuggets of wisdom woven in naturally. A meaningful, uplifting little adventure.

The narrative skillfully moves between two timelines, creating a rich and immersive experience. The prose is smooth, and the symbolism of the pen works beautifully as a device for transformation. The historical sections are vivid and well-researched, while the modern storyline provides emotional grounding. A well-crafted novel with depth and purpose.

This was a surprisingly enjoyable read. The idea of a pen controlling the story and pulling the writer into the past is really creative, and the adventure elements kept things moving at a good pace. I liked how the book combined action, history, and life lessons without becoming heavy. Easy to read, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

Fascinating

A very different book. A man buys an old-style ink pen. The pen, never running out of ink, writes a detailed story. The story teaches the man about himself and his life.
A couple misspelled words that did not detract from the story.

Not a bad story: well plotted and with multidimensional characters.

My first impression when the pen is introduced was that this might be a Cthulhu Mythos style story. It is not. There is a layer of religion, not over the top or heavy handed, but a little preacher-like.
