What happens when an immovable object meets an unstoppable force? Sparks fly and love blooms.

Freya Ivarsdóttir is not only the daughter of a jarl and sister to a future jarl but a well-renowned shield maiden. Committed to fighting the evil forces threatening her tribe and her neighbors, Freya does not welcome the attention of Erik Rangvaldson, the son of their neighboring jarl. Forced to work together to defeat their common enemy, Freya must put aside her dislike for the arrogant man who follows her everywhere. Erik may be the most handsome man she has ever seen, but he also aggravates her unlike any other man she knows.

Can Freya trust a man every woman wants?

Erik Rangvaldson has made no attempt to hide his interest in Freya. Attracted to her beauty from the moment he first saw her, and drawn to her fiery spirit from the moment they met, Erik is determined to win Freya over. Sent on a mission together to Scotland, Erik finds himself as focused upon proving his love to Freya as to tracking down the enemy who would steal the land from his father and Freya's.

Will Erik's interest last once the chase ends?

Can this couple trust one another when their lives are in danger? Can they work together to not only defeat their enemies but to find love?

So far I think this series is Celeste Barclay’s best work. Erik & Freya’s story is well paced, the characters are multifaceted, the imagery makes you feel as if you are in the longhouse with the couple or rowing along in their longboats as they travel the seas. The romance between Erik & Freya has multiple layers due to these two knowing each other for so long. Their connection is built deep seeded trust in each other that they will always protect each other whether it be in physical battle against enemies or on an emotional level as best friends, confidante, partner, and as husband & wife. As these two stop fighting their attraction to each other the next phase in their relationship seems natural and not rushed, their chemistry is natural and has already existed they just expressed it as bickering, taunting, and bantering—when their carnal encounters began it just made sense for them. As a reader it was one of those “finally they did it” moments - very satisfying. 🔥😉❤️

I enjoy seeing characters from other books of the series and I have a feeling the next book, Tyra & Bjorn is going to be a combustible journey!

I greatly enjoyed Erik and Freya’s story. When the book opens we know there is tension there, but soon find out it is because they are attracted to one another. They both have a deep respect for each other and as they take to the seas to scout for their families we get to see the respect bloom into trust. I enjoyed that the couple didn’t fight one another once they accepted their feelings but rather fought their insecurities of loving another. Satisfying romance squeezed into the storyline from book 1. I look forward to reading more!

When I read the first book of the series, Leif, I actually asked the author if she was going to do a book about Freya because I so enjoyed her character in her brother’s book. I was thrilled to see this novel listed at one of my favorite book reviewer sites. Unfortunately, I am disappointed in this book, though I do seem to be in the minority. We do know from the last book that Freya is a brave and strong shieldmaiden, but in this book—while we do see some of that—that is overshadowed by her mercurial emotional states.

I found this book to be very repetitious. Freya and Erik seemed to repeat their mental and emotional meanderings both verbally and in thought, and the substance of these rarely changed as the book progressed. They both seem to have crazy jealousy that doesn’t make sense in the first part because they don’t yet mean anything to each other. I rolled my eyes at how many times each described or was caught up in the gorgeousness of the other or reflected on how much every member of the opposite sex desired the other. In other descriptions, too, everything about them is superlative to the other: fiercest, biggest, etc. Really… please.

Erik seems to be smitten right from the start, and he just seems over-the-top, deeply in love in a way that just seems unbelievable from what happened in the last book and what is happening this book. Can he truly love a woman whom he doesn't really know (in part because she rebuffs him all the time)? Especially to the extent that he either thinks or states. He is willing to take whatever Freya is willing to offer, and he is supports her positions and decisions that have to do with the greater story and series arc.

Freya pulls away for several reasons, including the fear that her warriors will respect her less and the fear that Erik will move on once he has satisfied himself physically with her. (Both of these fears come up repeatedly, even when they initially appear to be resolved.) Given that Freya has been led her father's warriors and battled at their side for some time, it just seems strange to me that respect would be a concern that would keep her from Erik. Over the years, shouldn't she have garnered their respect, no matter what man interests her? I also found Freya’s character to be a little too spiky emotionally; it seemed like any little thing could set her off, and she always interpreted what Erik said wrong.

There is quite a bit of head hopping in this book. Sometimes, it happens within a paragraph or alternating paragraphs. Sometimes, too, the narrator shifts briefly to the omniscient perspective. There are some issues with punctuation (commas), grammar, and word choice/spelling (e.g., whether for weather); hopefully, this was cleared up before publication, as I did receive an ARC copy. I didn't feel like the plot was well-balanced. For at least half the book, even though they were on a scouting raid, the focus was on the emotional turmoil of the romance. I would have liked to have seen that balanced out better with the plot about Hakin and Inga.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Freya Ivarsdottir is a well-respected shieldmaiden and only daughter of a jarl. She is a keen fighter in defense of her people and is fiercely independent. She isn't ready to give her heart away and refuses to be claimed like property and so she resists the attention of Erick Rangvaldson, the son of their ally and neighboring jarl. She has no use for the arrogant man who trails after her like a puppy, but soon must work with him on an information gathering expedition in the hopes of defeating their common enemy.

Erik hasn't tried to hide his feelings for Freya, but thus far they are unrequited. He finds himself almost more focused on winning Freya's love and trust than he is on their mission, but he may not be able to convince her that his interest is permanent.

While there is battle and danger in this one, most of the focus is on Freya and Erik both overcoming their insecurities and learning to communicate and trust each other and their love. It kept me in suspense because I kept waiting for something to separate them but it never did and I found that refreshing. Their interactions were so romantic and heartfelt that I didn't even mind if they sometimes got a bit repetitive. I'll definitely be checking out more of this series.

Freya Ivarsdóttir is not only the daughter of a jarl and sister to a future jarl but a well-renowned shield maiden. Freya does not welcome the attention of Erik Rangvaldson, the son of their neighbouring jarl.
Erik Rangvaldson has made no attempt to hide his interest in Freya. In fact he follows her around like a love sick puppy. Attracted to her beauty from the moment he first saw her, and drawn to her fiery spirit from the moment they met, Erik is determined to win Freya over. Sent on a mission together to Scotland, Erik finds himself as focused upon proving his love to Freya as to tracking down the enemy who would steal the land from his father and Freya’s.
This is the second book in this brilliant series, it could be read on its own but to fully appreciate it I’d recommend reading Leif. We met Erik & Freya in Leif’s story & it was apparent that sparks flew when the pair were together. I loved the way their romance developed & how this strong, fierce gorgeous Viking was brought to his knees by a slight, feisty woman. The characters are so well portrayed & the pace was breathtaking & the pages flew by as I was drawn into their journey to & from Scotland. There were edge of the seat moments with sea battles & a sizzling romance made for an unputdownable read. There’s also the lovely epilogue, which left me wondering who someone's husband is?
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Great follow up to Leif!

This is the second viking themed book that I’ve read by Celeste Barclay and I am appreciating the change from what I normally read. I read the first book in this series and was ready for more from Freya and Erik. They are really alike in a lot of ways. Both great warriors and both have fathers who are jarls. I love the banter between them and how I know it will lead to a great passion.
I found it interesting how even though they are both so tough when it comes to fighting when it comes to their relationship they both tend to harbor great insecurities. It makes them more relatable. It’s also always great to see a strong, intelligent woman become a partner to her male counterpart and not have to give up her “self” in the process.

I enjoyed reading the first book in this series. In this Freya was a character and she sounded interesting. But now in her own story she lacks a bit of this from the first book. I miss the strong woman that believes in herself and goes for her life. But apart from that it is a well written story with nice storyline and plot.
Characters well defined and have a good chemistry.
A story filled with action and a strong male character.
Recommendable read.

My favorite book in the series! Honestly, I was contemplating on skipping this book at first because based on reading the blurbs on all the books in the series, I was really drawn to Strian's book and he was 4th and I was so excited to get to it. Thankfully I came to my senses and read all of the books before his and read this one.

Freya is the Jarl's daughter and is a well-renowned shieldmaiden, and is often put in charge of missions alongside her brother and their group of friends who are under the Jarl's command. Erik is the son of the Jarl who is a friend of the tribe and makes no secret of his infatuation with the Freya.
He is always aware of her presence, and the entire tribe knows how he feels since he's out there following her around like a lost puppy, but still with his trademark arrogance that gets on Freya's nerves.

They banter a lot but eventually, the frustration between them turns sexual, and thank fucking God because it took a while but at least they got there! Freya was a little skeptical of his feelings and I don't blame her but glad it got sorted out. I absolutely loved their interactions together when they were finally romantically involved.

I read this a while ago and just got to writing this review now, so not everything is fresh on my mind other than how I felt when I was reading the book. I really loved this one and will definitely re-read this at some point in the future.

My second ever Viking read and I like how fast paced these books are and how interlinked the key storyline is.

I liked how quickly and unapologetically they fall in love and how there is such surety in it as well. Freya is such a strong character but also showed elements of softness at times - only with Erik. She really was a woman in a man's world and proved that she deserved the same respect. She was as good as, if not better, than the men she fought alongside. Erik was great, I liked how open he was about his ridiculous pining and how he never thought of Freya as weak. They brought out another side in each other.

There was a good back and forth between Freya and Erik and I like that this didn't completely disappear even after they admitted their feelings for one another. The level of insecurity around her being so beautiful she could have her pick of men and might leave him and the same vice versa did get a bit annoying to read but besides that I really enjoyed it.

The way the epilogue linked directly into the epilogue of Sigrid and Leif's book was actually such a nice touch!

A good story

I didn’t like this as much as the first one. While I enjoyed the actual story, I was distracted by a plethora of misspellings and use of the wrong words for the context, by which I mean using a similar sounding word such as hoard for horde, wretch instead of retch, pouring instead of poring, and missing apostrophes or ones in the wrong place. Not major issues but irritating just the same! A good editor or even proof reader would have avoided these issues. It pays to get all these things correct if you are going to charge money for a book - it should look as if it was written by a person, not a spell-checker!

Fast-paced, Intense......

Freya and Erik what a couple, both strong warriors from different clans...Freya wants to ignore Erik she doesn't want to get hurt, Erik is easy on the eyes the ladies all want him. This read had me laughing out loud because of their jealousy. Be prepared for some rated x love sex scenes, too hot or me...looking forward to the next book in this series.

Viking Glory is violent ...steamy ..... complicated ...and amazing! Wow! Talk about relationship building and in the midst of an bloody expedition to discover the extent of enemy strength and infiltration! I loved the love story imbedded in the action and intrigue of this story and highlighted the amount of trust Eric and Freya must build in order for lasting love!

Beautifully written

It is great to see a strong, powerful woman also have a few flaws and insecurities. She deals with them as they come and it doesn't stop her from ultimately going after what she wants...A hot, sexy man like Erik.

Viking tale

Smooth read did not hold true to the ruthlessness of the Viking era as most Viking series do. I liked the H and the h grew on me. Plot 6(1-10) there was several people involved about the aunt and enemies and it was all confusing. Steaminess 6(1-10)

I really enjoyed this book it was the first book i have read in the series but each book is different and stand alone.

Freya Ivarsdottir is a sheildmaden and the daughter of a Jarl her only focus is being competent in battle and protecting her family and people its not pandering to the neighboring Jarl's son who is two pretty by far and stairs to much if only he was ugly and fat she could ignore him better. Is it not enough that all the women of her house flirt and leer at him too.

Erik Rangvaldson the son of a Jarl is captivated by the beautiful and wasp tongued Freya who dose nothing but insult him and ignore him but he can't stay away he wants to make her his wife. There both very strong minded people used to leading. Freya wants nothing to do with a man that doesn't value her opinion. Erik wants to protect and care for Freya. They both have insecurities when it comes to each other and a possible union. Maybe there new mission to Scotland will allow them the time they need to get to know one another and find out how much they love each other. But there journey is dangerous there looking for clues to the men that are attacking both there people what they find will hurt both there family's
the people you thought you could trust may betray you. There will be a final battle before Freya and Erik future is set. There is and epilogue at the end that ties everything up. Cant wait to find out who the next book is about.

This was such a wonderful book. Erik and Freya finally come to terms with the fact that they are in love with each other, but dangerous men are planning to destroy them as well as their families. Be sure to read Leif, Viking Glory Book 1 to have a better understanding of what transpired before. Erik’s Aunt, sister to his father, is a bitter woman because she was sent away from Freya’s father, whom she had planned to marry, and forced to marry a man she didn’t love. She has vowed revenge on Leif and Freya’s parents, but also on her own brother and his family. Her bitterness makes her a vengeful and dangerous woman whose evil knows no end. Now Freya and Eric are sent to spy on the men she has enlisted to help her carry out her plan, her husband Grimr and his brother Hakin, who has been her lover. As they journey to other lands, they discover women who have been taken as sex slaves to be used by the mercenaries hired by Hakin and Grimr. Freya sets the women free to return to their own homeland. They also discover a pirates cave full of riches, coins to be used to pay the mercenaries. To thwart that plan Eric and Freya take all the chests of treasures to their own longboat. Unfortunately word gets back to Grimr and Hakin that they are being hunted down. While Freya and Eric were only tasked with spying and certainly not prepared for battle, it seems that the enemy has entirely different plans. There is a bunch of action, danger, betrayal and love that follows. A must read!

Can I just say I loved it! After Leif, I was anxious to read Freya, his sister's story and see what happened with Erik. To say he was enchanted with the fearsome shield maiden is putting it mildly. A little obsessed since he had first set eyes on her and wants nothing more to win her affection. On the other hand Freya thinks he is very handsome but all the women want him! Surely he would be not be able to just stay with one woman with all that attention!
When they are sent on a quest together to Scotland, the adventure begins! Both born leaders being the children of Jarls' and use to getting their way, the iterations and banter was priceless! Freya does have feelings for him she has tried to tamper down but the electricity between them is undeniable! Strong emotions and a lot of hidden feelings of insecurity and trust mix into the equation, but they learn to work together as they are faced with many fierce clashes and battles.
Celeste Barclay does it again by pulling you into the story and giving a visual of the surroundings and characters to the point of feeling their emotions. I am enjoying this series so much and cannot wait to read the next tale in the amazing Viking Glory!

What do you get when you put a strong and stubborn shield maiden and a strong and stubborn warrior and future jarl, together? A very steamy and passionate adventure!! I loved Freya and Erik's story, Celeste Barclay has done an amazing job writing it.

Erik has wanted Freya from the first time he saw her but she doesn't make it easy for him because she considers herself a warrior and needs no man in her life to tell her what to do. They soon find themselves on the high seas, searching evil men who want to bring them down. Freya finally admits her feelings for Erik and vice versa and amidst the danger, their passion knows no bounds. They each have their secret fears, though, and must work through them to truly trust each other.

A thoroughly enjoyable story that held me spellbound from start to end. The Viking age was such a brutal era, filled with alliances, betrayals, feuds, raids and murders, but I've always found them a fascinating people as well and it's why I love reading books like this one.

Celeste Barclay has quickly become an one of those authors for me that if she's selling it, I'm buying it! Her books never fail to keep me hooked and there is never a lack of action or steaminess in her books.
This is the second story in her Viking series, it focuses on Freya, a sassy and fierce shield maiden, and the mighty warrior Erik. Both harbor feelings for one another from the get go (him openly, her not so much) and are tasked to team up on a scouting mission. Both are children of Jarls' and used to being the leader, so it was fun to watch them butt heads. I really loved how tender Erik was with Freya and how she showed a softer side with him that no one else gets to see!
I think that a reader should have no issues following along with this as a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting with the first book as I think it helps to appreciate the overall arc that is being set up in this series. I have my fingers crossed for who I'm hoping is the next couple in the series, but we'll have to wait and see!

Freya is the second book in this series. I would not recommend reading them out of order as is starts shortly after Leif and you won't know what's happening.

This book focuses mostly on Freya and Erik and the relationship between them. As we saw in the last book their chemistry is off the charts. The playful banter between them is perfect for drawing the reader into the story and it was wonderful to see Erik trying to connect without claiming. Readers are the unwavering strength in Freya both in battle and her personal life.

We get to see all the players from the last book but none of them go on the scouting journey looking for Hakin except Freya and Erik. We do get to meet some more characters, most notably members of Erik's mother's clan. I do hope we get to see more of them.

It appears Hakin did not learn his lesson and is recruiting clanless Scotsman to fight for him. We follow Freya and Erik as they try and find out where Hakin's base is and how he's paying his warriors. The story is fast paced in battle and out.

I received and ARC of this book through BookSprout and am leaving an honest voluntary review.
