Two years ago, I read the first volume of Jader Pires’ short stories, and in my review, I ended by saying that the second volume was staring at me from the shelf. Now the time has come to talk about *Do Amor Vol. 2*, the sequel of chronicles about the most sublime of feelings.

Unlike the first book, in this one, the characters have no names; they are referred to simply as "he," "she," "the other," "the girlfriend," which gives the stories an universal tone that, at the same time, feels so personal. I consider this the main difference from the first volume. Some texts also have an essay-like tone, leaving the narrative in the background, sometimes even removing it entirely.

Another interesting aspect is the inexhaustible variety of situations we face when we decide to connect with other people—ranging from a couple who has only interacted through casual meetings for months to one that amicably decides to end their relationship, understanding there’s no point in staying together.

By approaching love in an elastic way, the book presents us with an endless array of circumstances we might find ourselves in simply because we gave in to the desire to surrender to another person. My only caveat is the predominantly heterosexual nature of the relationships. The couples throughout the collection are mostly composed of a man and a woman. However, this in no way tarnishes the overall quality of the work.
