- “Not being able to murder your way out of a problem is really, really frustrating.” I hear you, Cable, and I sympathize.
- If Logan is really going undercover in Japan and pretending he's not Wolverine, shouldn't he do something about his trademark pointy hair? Pomade exists, you know. They even come in non-greasy texture and with nice, subtle scents these days.
- LMAO at the goblins playing The Proclaimers' I'm Gonna Be on repeat in the torture chamber. Nice HIMYM reference.
- I think the Krakoan ban on resurrection of clones and duplicates is just bollocks. I don't know what the Quiet Council means by enforcing it but the fact that they have “exceptions” like the Stepford Cuckoos means it's politics. Sketch.
This was sort've okay. Kid Cable took a crack at investigating where the Hell Stryfe is (including a pit stop in the semi-literal Hell of Limbo). Along the way he spoke with Rachel, Emma Frost, Logan, Magik, Wildside, and Hope.
*shrugs*
Nice for a couple of my all-time faves to be featured. And nice for someone relatively obscure, like Wildside, to get some prime attention. He has probably had more lines of dialogue in the last year than he had for the last 20 years combined.
But Cable himself? Eh. Out of all the versions of this character (Original Cable, Stryfe, and X-Man), this version of Cable is the least interesting.
Meh. Are they bringing back "the other guy" because Kid Cable is whiney and boring? The Duplicates Policy is a bunch of crap... Also Multiple Man's dupes can survive if he dies? Since when?!
I really, really want to see Nate and Esme go on a double date with Quentin and Phoebe. But I digress...
"I'll say this for you Summers men...you sure know how to turn a day off into a chore." Pretty much the best summing up of Summers men ever.
Duggan and Noto pick up the pace this issue as Nate hyper focuses on the search for Stryfe. Unfortunately, nobody knows where is, not even the demon N'Astirh who Magik has chained up in Limbo while tiny demons play I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) on recorders to him.
Ultimately he concludes that the only person who can find Stryfe is his older, dead self. Although we know he's not dead...he's just somewhere...or somewhen.
We also get a restatement of Krakoa's policy when it comes to the resurrection of clones. As in, they don't get resurrected. What this will ultimately mean for young Nate only time will tell. But it's probably not good...
The Cable/Esme thing still is just ignored/gently touched upon and never really develops.
The rest almost read like a first issue with a whistle stop tour of loads of other characters to add legitimacy. None of the meetings were bad but equally they never really went anywhere.
I want to see more of the new Cable, what makes him tick and see him build up relationships but they seem intent on dragging it back to the old guy probably building up to a big Stryfe show down.
Knowing this series is ending at #12 is sad, but I doubt we've seen the last of Cable. I guess the question now is, which Cable are we going to get? Also, I love that a character called Hope Cable's daughter with Kid Cable there. Because he's not wrong, but thanks to time travel, like Cable once was to Cyclops, Hope is now older than her dad.
Love the art. Still confused about what happened to old Cable. Loved Magik. The policy on dupes is very confusing, what with the two separate wolverine clones running around. I'd really like that dealt with.
