Island Ghost

Rate this book
Teddy Pringle and her grandfather had been left alone and were trying to stay together. To do so, her grandfather needed a paying job as a caretaker to supplement his small pension, and convince the authorities that he could provide a suitable home for an eleven-year-old girl. So when Mr. Pringle found an ad for a caretaker at the Ghost Island Gun Club with a cottage provided, a older man preferred, and a small salary, it sounded like a heaven-sent chance.
But when he met the owners of the private hunting club, he soon discovered that though they would give him a trial, no children were allowed. It was too remote for regular school attendance, and not the right place for a child, they decided.
How the Pringles met the challenge of the situation, what Teddy did about the famous ghost, and how with the help of Monty, a dog that joins the household, they handled the threat of some young poachers is a story with suspense and excitement. The solution to the mystery of the ghost, though proved to be Teddy's own triumph over the adults who had always shivered but taken it for granted.
