He’d be the perfect guy…if he wasn’t trying to ruin her life.

Ian would do anything for his grandmother, so when Gran suddenly announces she’s leaving the family property to her pretty new neighbor, Ian is on the case. He’ll use every one of his sharply-honed skills as a private investigator to expose the gold digger and save Gran.

Brooke is living her best life far from the city and career that tried to destroy her. She’s happy spending her summer renovating the house she inherited and gardening with her elderly neighbor, Miss Lily. But when Miss Lily’s handsome—and obnoxious—grandson shows up, making wild accusations and dragging up Brooke’s past, Brooke must convince Ian he has her all wrong.

But what happens when their chemistry proves even more dangerous than Ian’s accusations?

Man, this was such a fun book to write. I originally intended it for my Brenna Jacobs pen name, but when we decided to put that on hiatus, I figured it made more sense to put this book out as ME. But that meant going in and layering in funny scenes, more chemistry, and some classic trash-talking between our two leads. I think you're going to like this one!

After reading and loving Kiss the Girl, I immediately had to backtrack and read this one. I absolutely adored it.

Beginning with Ian taking his private investigator skills into action, it’s a hilarious enemies-to-lovers romance as he accuses Brooke, the neighbour beside his grandmother, of being a scam artist.

As he digs into her past, these two and their passive-aggressive insults had me chuckling. And of course, Ian has it all wrong. His grovelling to win Brooke over was top-notch!

Weaving corrupt politics and workplace sexual assault into the story, this somehow still maintained its romantic comedy vibe. I had such a fun time reading this one!

I know I can always count on Melanie Jacobson books to be fun, witty, and entertaining and this book was certainly no exception! Great enemies-to-lovers between a private investigator and a small town biology teacher thanks to Gran, who is just positive her new neighbor Brooke is the perfect girl for her grandson Ian. I loved their chemistry and all the small-town charm! I have read the other books in this series that are already published and I can't wait for more. 4.5 stars

This is truly excellent. For those that care about spice, this only has a few kisses. For me, it’s all about the emotional payoff and that was fabulous.

I giggled throughout the beginning as you see the grandma manipulate her grandson into coming home by implying her pretty neighbor is a scammer. He takes that and runs with it, like an idiot. But he learns he’s wrong and admits fault and makes up for it.

There is a serious subplot with a politician behaving badly which serves as a backstory to why our driven heroine is running away to be in a small town. There’s a scene near the end where the heroine willfully misunderstands the hero but it’s understandable based on her trauma.

These two are lovely. The grandma is wily and wonderful.

I loved it so much.

Both the hero and heroine try to date other people after having a discussion that they are only friends but neither really likes it and it’s no more than a date or two.

this was adorable!
to be honest, i went into this one with the expectation that it was just going to be a light and fluffy romance with no substance but i was very impressed!!
the characters were well rounded and the plot was unique!
i really liked the mmc and thought his job was unique and added a fun twist to the story! the fmc was so cutie and sweet and i related to so many aspects of her personality and the inner workings of her brain. i loved that she was a teacher !
i loved that this was a no spice romance. but the first kiss between them??! literally gave me butterflies. the chemistry between the two of them is SO GOOD!!
i had so much fun listening to this one and i definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a sweet, pure romance !!

I thought for sure I would love this one, but no. Ian was incredibly obnoxious and short-sighted for most of the book which really irritated me. Brooke had trauma so I could understand her hesitance, but there were just so many misunderstandings and issues that it felt more exhausting than fun. The fact that such a short book took me almost a week to finish proves that it was a struggle.

I finally got around to reading the first book in the Creekville series and set the tone so well!! I loved the friendship between Brooke and her elderly neighbor, Lily. The two bond over gardening and Brooke unexpectedly gets set up with Lily's grandson Ian, only to have him digging into her past and motives for befriending his grandmother.

I really enjoyed the #MeToo/Washington DC politics storyline even though it was a tad deeper/darker than later books in the series. I also thought this book set up the next one featuring Grace perfectly (her story in Kiss the girl is still my favorite!). Recommended for fans of Sarah Adams.

Sometimes enemy's to lovers books don't work well for me. They spend way too long as enemy's and there is not enough lovers in the story. This one was borderline for me. It started out slow and did pick up and kept me interested and reading. I enjoyed the next one in the series more then this but this troupe is hard for me sometimes.
This was sweet and clean with no religion.

Ian, an investigator living in DC, loves his grandmother to bits. When Gran is on the phone with Ian and says that she wants to add her new next door neighbor who she's only known for 5 months to her will, it raises some red flags.

Brooke adores Miss Lily and is more than thrilled to help her tend to her garden. She recently uprooted her old life from the big city to come live in Creekville, so having a lovely, elderly next door neighbor to spend time with was delightful.

Miss Lily constantly talks about her eldest, single grandson Ian and believes they're the perfect match, but their first encounter is anything but perfect. Ian comes barreling into Creekville through the lens of an investigator, attempting to squeeze out any bit of information he can from Brooke, and find out why she's decided to weasel her way into his grandmother's life.

A small town, a meddling grandmother and tons of sweet moments are what you're in for if you decide to give this a shot! I love Melanie Jacobson and have been wanting to read more of her books. This one did not disappoint! Such a fun little enemies-to-lovers story!

Ian was also a dream. He came in HOT, but when he learned the error of his ways, he was ready to grovel for Brooke's time and affection and I was HERE FOR IT. I'll FOREVER look at porch swings and think of Ian and Brooke. ♥️😭

RATING: 4.5 out of 5

This was my first foray into Melanie Jacobson and I know I'll pick up more of her work. It was a fun, clean romance with snappy dialogue. I was impressed by the depth and issues that this book addressed in a respectful way without being too much for sensitive readers. The romantic actions of the male lead are also a great example of consent and how somebody should behave when it comes to boundaries. I'd suggest this not only to any fans of romance, but also as a book to hand to a person formulating ideas and opinions about how they should act or be treated in a romantic situation. While there are expected (and necessary) miscommunications when it comes to the plot, the respectful communication about romantic boundaries is crystal clear.

When Ian's grandmother tells him she's changing her will to leave her house (it's more of a mini-mansion) to her new neighbor, red flags and warning bells go off in his head. This new neighbor has got to be a con artist or a gold digger and so Ian puts all of his investigator skills to work to find out everything he can about this new neighbor. Being an investigator for a prestigious D.C. law firm means Ian can dig deep.

Brooke loves the small town of Creekville. It's just what she needed after several years of working in the soul-sucking city of Washington D.C. She's having a wonderful summer preparing for her first year as a biology teacher, renovating the house she inherited and learning about gardening from her neighbor, Miss Lily. That is until Miss Lily's absentee grandson comes around with his accusations which threaten to upend her world.

Ian is a great guy with a working moral compass who loves his Gran, but his years as an investigator have made him a little jaded. He immediately suspects Brooke is trying to swindle his Gran out of her house and interprets all the evidence he finds as proof of that. As Ian explained it--All the right pieces, put together completely wrong. I loved all the things Ian did for Brooke to show he was truly apologetic about misjudging her. Some of them were truly swoony.

Brooke is a strong woman, who'd been through something that would've broken a lot of other women. She's kind and helpful with a deadly fear of spiders. The incident with the spiders in the flowers would've had me running out of the classroom with fear, or at least frozen in place. I would've been checking for spiders for at least a week.

I can't leave out Gran. What a character! I'd love to be like her when I'm eighty--funny, fiesty, sassy and playing matchmaker for my grandkids. I loved Gran.

This is now my favorite book by Melanie Jacobson. The witty banter, great multidimensional characters, and of course a great story that pulled me in from the first page. It's told from a dual perspective which I like. I like seeing the events from viewpoint of both of the main characters. So, if you like romantic comedies this is the book for you.

I received a complimentary copy to review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I usually love this author's books but not this time.
The male main character really bothered me. He had this investigator background, sure, but he seemed a little too stalkerish and vindictive to me. After he knew he was in the wrong he was weird about the female main character not being happy about his apologies and gifts. He chose when to be honest and when to manipulate according to a self-righteous moral code. I still didn't like him much by the end of the book when things were being resolved.
The female main character was all these wonderful things. I wanted her to find some peace, be able to live her life, and end up happy, but not with stalker-boy. When she decided she was really into him after all, I was a little disappointed (even though I figured that was where the book was going).
The villain stuff is all off screen and the resolution is vague with the female main character making a difficult decision but the effort seems wasted. This created a strange sense of invalidation that tainted the ending for me.
I hope the next book in the series is more of a fit for me.

Mild violence. No sex. Mild language. Themes of a vaguely mentioned attempted rape, adultery, grooming, sexual harassment

Note: I actually listened to the audiobook version but that wasn't one of the options in the selection here on goodreads at the time of this review. Since it's not my preferred format that may have affected my opinion of the book. I'm too easily distracted when listening to audiobooks, that's on me.

DNF at 50% - unfortunately this one just bored me to tears - it took me hours to get 100 pages into the book. It is slow burn and "enemies to lovers" to an EXTREME. The entire first 48% of the book is spent with the main characters hating each other and not in a fun, sexy, tension-filled bantering kind of way. They just straight up legit did not like each other. The guy came off as a pompous, overbearing, nightmare and he worked overtime to dig up and reveal a really traumatic experience that the heroine had previously had (trigger warning for mentions of sexual assault). I knew at that point that I simply wasn't ever going to like his character. It wasn't until just shy of the 50% mark that they suddenly resolved the conflict and bam! Overnight they are now totally fine with each other and also maybe want to make out? It took way too long to get to that point and then way too little time for them to do a complete 180 flip flop. I just couldn't get into it.

I touched the warm spot on my forehead. That was no fever. That was Ian Greene’s touch causing the heat reaction, and as an expert in biology, I knew we were dealing with chemistry.

This line was the nail in the coffin for me at 49% and I had to call it quits a few pages later.

I m not gonna write a review for a book where i skipped most parts out of annoyance...

Well actually...

So my major issuses: what exactly was the goal of this book? To write about overcoming a trauma? failed spectatularly... To write like a fancy investigation book? well that ends in the middle and we dont even get to join him on the interesting parts of the investigation and mostly get spoiled by her in advance... To write a love story? well no because the whole book i was hoping they would realize how stupid they were behaving, grow up and try at love in 10 years again (but obviously not with each other because they were as wrong for eachother as they get...)
I kinda liked Ian as a character in the second half but hated his personality changes (maybe just bad writing?) and could never get warm with her whose name I've already forgotten.

Maybe not really for me this one...

Melanie Jacobsen never disappoints

Whenever I need a sweet romance with reliably fantastic writing, Melanie is one of my solid go-to’s. This book came out in the middle of a Jacobsen book-binge, and couldn’t have been timed better.

I love the timely message of beauty from ashes, of a male champion who actively resists overbearance, and of female strength in the face of overwhelming odds.

Awesome as always.

A good storyline. Not the easiest context but Jacobson writes it so it's a good read. I did get frustrated with them both and yet I get her interworkings. I also love his expressions of love and how he shows it, especially in the end. He never forces anything and yet he stands up for his love for her which wins in the end.

Cute!

The book blurb gives some of the details.
I thought I’d have more to say about it, but mostly I think it was a cute, sweet read. I enjoyed it. It’s light and fun. Good characters with good, meaningful interactions.
A good, easy read as a sweet and clean romance.

Loved reading one of Melanie Jacobson's books again. She was the first author that I read in this genre and then I couldn't get my hands on all her books fast enough! Kiss Me Now was so much fun to read, just like all Jacobson's other books - witty, charming, definitely swoony, clean and so much fun!

The characters were THE best in this story. Brooke is a strong heroine who has a lot on her plate as she tries to balance a new job, a fixer upper and the annoying while handsome grandson of her neighbor tries to tear up what she has worked so hard to put in the past. She's really cool and I'd like to be her just a bit. And let's talk about this annoying and ridiculous grandson - Ian, he really is a caring guy who is just wanting to look out for his family. The world we live in just doesn't allow him to trust everyone on the spot. So he digs. His digging and his grandma's pushing clash and there is so much to clean up. It's charming watching Ian stumble over his mistakes as he tries to convince Brooke that he's a good guy, and that they need to investigate this chemistry they have discovered.

And their chemistry is good. Hence why the title is perfect for this book.

Such a fun story with twists and turns, heartache, real life issues and just darn right fun. Especially when it involves Ian's grandmother, gardening, house renovations, flowers, spiders and yummy food. Jacobson did it again with a great read that made me laugh and cry and I can't wait to see what she writes next because the end of this book leaves me with lots of questions for a certain character!

This was OK. I'm not sure if it's me or what, but my last couple of books read by this author were just so-so for me.
First off, the cover does not match the storyline. I would have liked it to showcase some of the DC plot or even the home renovation angle. I don't like covers that are not related to the storyline. Yes, there's a scene or two with flowers on it, but I still think the cover design could have merged better with what's inside.
That being said, I was intrigued by the author's departure from Mormon dating scenes into the cutthroat political scenes of DC. There's a bit of scandal here but then you also get a glimpse of small-town life. I thought the aspects of high school teaching were fun to read, especially since I can relate to them.
The beginning plot where our hero Ian thought Brook was doing something shady was a bit unrealistic to me, especially since they easily resolved things. If I were Brooke, I would be totally offended and even scared that some hot-shot detective was snooping into my life and making assumptions.
I guess my biggest issue about this story was the plethora of subplots. You had the DC scandal, Brooke's teaching, the home renovation, the grandma and her garden, then there are secondary characters that come in and out (ie PE teacher/friend, hardware store owner, multiple dates for Ian). I would like my secondary characters to have a purpose and not just people that come and go so that the main characters have someone else to talk to other than themselves.
Anyways, I wish it would have been better.

Reading this book made me remember why I fell in love with Melanie Jacobson’s books. She’s got such a way with words that the story just sucks you in. There is also kind of a sassiness for lack of a better word in her writing. It just makes me happy. And her characters are the best! I loved everything about this one.

Ian is a really great guy. He’s trying to make the world better in his own way. Both in his job as a private investigator in Washington, DC and in his private life. Which is why when Gran tells him that she’s going to leave her expensive home to her brand new neighbor, he goes a little crazy. He starts investigating this sweet girl. And what he finds just convinces him that his suspicions are right.

Brooke is the best! I loved her so much. She is the kind of person we all want to be friends with, genuine, a good friend, great with people, and a great teacher. And she hates spiders. Guys, that scene made me laugh so hard. Although, I would die if I found what she did. You’d better read this one based on that!

And Gran. None of this book is told from her perspective. But I loved her sass and really everything about her. It’s obvious she is loved by everyone who knows her. And honestly, I would love it if she was a real person and I could meet her.

This is one of those books you just need to read. It’s so great! I can’t wait for more by Melanie Jacobson!

I was sent an e-copy of Kiss Me Now as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.

Ian has been meaning to go and visit his Gran for months (or years) but his work as an investigator keeps him busy. Then one day she informs him that she's planning to leave her house to Brooke, her next door neighbour, when she dies. Ian smells a rat and comes to visit - to investigate Brooke and expose her for the gold-digger he assumes her to be. But Brooke turns out to be a friendly and attractive young woman - at least when she's not annoyed at Ian for neglecting his Gran! Brooke moved away from the city to escape her problems, but Ian's determined to expose them. With such a stormy beginning, can any happy ending be possible?

This book was a good mix of hilarious and serious - I particularly loved the spider scene and the date-that-wasn't. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and appreciated the way that Ian recognised the need to apologise for his behaviour and actually did so (quite inventively). The gradual overcoming of their initial prejudices was managed well, the writing was good and the content was clean. All in all, this was a delightful story and one that I would definitely recommend.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

I really love Melanie Jacobson books. She has a great voice that keeps me hooked and entertained and on the off chance I don't finish it in one day, I dream in her voice. It's hard to explain but it's real and it's lovely.
A few of my favorite parts: Ian- I love how much he loves his grandma, I love his moral compass and I love how he is willing to apologize and try hard to correct stuff, mushrooms, Brooke- she is so dedicated and hard working in a way I totally respect but don't relate to at all (I'm pretty lazy), Gran- one day I hope I get to be a mischievous, nosey grandma, the flowers, the wallpaper, the spiders, the gardening and lastly, for this review but not for all the reasons, I love the porch swing. I love it on the cover, I love it in the book and I sincerely hope that for the rest of the character's fictional lives, a porch swing graces their front porch.

Overall, I just loved it. It was funny and sweet and romantic and their chemistry and banter is on point. And I while I truly love my life and my love story, I wouldn't say no to a long term vacation in a Melanie Jacobson book!

Finally! Another book in the ABC series! ... Kind of
Such a great book! I would have read it in one sitting if life (running kids around) didn’t get in the way of reading. ;)
Loved the witty dialogue. Well written characters... rooting for Ian to get egg on his face for all his assumptions. But then seeing him work hard to make things right with Brooke makes your heart sigh. Good chemistry between Brooke and Ian. Great supporting characters as well. [Wouldn’t mind seeing a book for Mr. PE teacher and Ms. DIY facilitator. :)]
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT
He’d be the perfect guy…if he wasn’t trying to ruin her life.

MY TAKE
Some of the things I've always loved about Jacobson's books is how she manages to dish out stories of depth with so much heart and humor as well.

My goodness, but Ian leaped onto his grandmother's statement about leaving her house to her new neighbor. So, cynical PI that he is, he reads every bit of information he learns about Brooke as proof of what he suspects--she trying to con his gran's house from her.

But there's another side to everything we hear. Lovely story and engaging characters. And yummy kisses!
