Rustic isn't what it used to be. Gone are the days when rustic style meant fusty dried flower arrangements, antlers over a stone fireplace and acres of tartan. At its heart, the modern rustic look celebrates the fabric of a home, from the roof beams to the brickwork. This style revels in earthy colours and rich textures; in natural materials such as wood and stone; and the ruggedly handsome bones of a building. In this book, stylist Emily Henson and writer Joanna Simmons first lead you through the Elements of the Modern Rustic look. Pure Rustic elegantly blends clean lines with muted shades of grey. Bohemian Rustic mixes texture and pattern with lush colour, while Pop Rustic teams raw wood with pops of neon and tongue-in-cheek artworks. Retro Rustic, meanwhile, brings a relaxed feel, showcasing beaten-up leather armchairs and brick floors. In Details, textiles, furniture, fabric and display are explored, while Living Spaces shows how Modern Rustic style translates beautifully to every room in the house.
Gorgeous photos of all sorts of rustic interiors that look handsome and are undoubtedly EXPENSIVE. 5 stars. I found the text way too wordy and somewhat removed. Even with so much wording, there were few(any?) fresh ideas to discuss. 1 star. But the pictures were so enjoyable to linger over.
The pictures are good, but instead of choosing innovative ideas, it's more along the lines of how-can-I-make-simple-things-realaly-expensive. No, thanks.
This isn't a book I'd want to own, but from the library this was an enjoyable half an hours read. Some nice interiors to look at, could be a useful book to give people ideas. I liked that this encouraged recycling, simple and natural materials, mismatched chairs and buying second hand.
Interior Design... Stylist Emily Henson has once again visited the Rustic look. Nature and the textures and patterns bring the outdoor world into a home. Enhancing the structure with wood and stone… allowing beauty to occupy each room. Many of the pages seem to echo the same look… it would have been nice to see more variety. All in all I enjoyed the soothing designs and look forward to browsing through Ms. Henson’s other books.
This book was a bit disappointing...All the images looked the same, and even though the editors tried to distinguish different types of Modern Rustic, in my eyes each picture could have been from the same three homes.
