The light is out, and the small cottage is filled with shadows. She quietens in my arms. It has been too long since I felt a woman beside me. I have bitten her. In the way one might claim an Omega. I have never done that before. The depth of this urge takes me by surprise as I hold my precious new mate.
“I wish I were an Omega,” I whisper. His face is downcast, eyes on the place where his hand cups me, but he lifts his head suddenly at my words. Dropping the cooled cloth into the bowl, he holds my gaze.
“I do not wish that,” he says. “If you were an Omega, you would be someone else. I do not want someone else.”
Is this warm feeling spreading through my chest, love? It tickles, feels both heavy and light, and full of contentment. My fingers play in her silky hair. I yawn again. A funny rumbly noise comes from Hazel. For a moment, I think it might be a purr. Then my lips tug up as I realize our little Beta mate is snoring as she sleeps.
