This series just seemed to lose steam for me as it went along. I wanted to finish it to see how it ended, but overall I could have been happy not reading it at all. It was kind of tepid - not hot or cold, not terrible and not outstanding. Just kind of meh.

Ray Porter levels up the story with his narration, which is why I kept going with the series.

The final book in this series is one that is incredibly fast paced, with a multitude of smaller stories that all link together to create this final epic chapter in the Bridge Series.
It starts with Rex and the crew having returned with a small force of Rodax warriors, having successfully returned from their trip across the bridge in Book 2 to find some help. The Rodax have a plan that they think will stop the Believers and the unknown, those aliens that are coming on the objects that they call the ‘Zalt’.
However, they have returned to an Earth that is already under attack, the Zalt have begun their attack, the ‘attuning’ as they call it, in which they attempt to inhabit the mind of another being. Unfortunately, unless that being, Humans in this case, has been prepared for this intrusion, they cannot cope with the Zalt entering their mind, and they die a rather gruesome death. As Rex and his group return to Earth, they find the results of this in several areas, with thousands dead. As they make a dash across the planet to a secret store of Rodax weapons that might be able to help, they find that the Zalt have unleashed the Umir, deadly robots, sent to cull those who do not comply with the wishes of there new masters, but also to cut down the population.
Rex has a desperate mission, he has to not only stop the Zalt, he has to find an ancient book, one that will have the answers on how to stop these mind invasions and allow him to send them back to their ships. It is also up to him and his group to stop the Believers, led by none other than his Boss, Jessica Carver, “The Sovereign”.
This final book is just incredible, with so many different storylines wrapped into one, as there are so many different aspects of the story that have to be covered.
There are multiple factions and characters, with Rex and his group, including Veronica, Tripp, Marcus and then Rex’s Sister Beverley and her kids, Evan Young the FBI agent who went missing. There is also the enigmatic and ever incredible Saul, who seems to survive consistently to always be there to help. Rex’s Father is on Rimia, with Opor, although Opor is not who she seems to be, and this particular story is fascinating in itself.
Then there are the Freedom Earthers, led by Roger, who is not the crazy man everyone assumes, but is actually a very level headed leader, with clear goals, and may well be one of the only hope’s that Earth has. Roger has some allies, one being the brilliant radio personality Bill McCreary, who is just such an amazing character in this final book.
Of course, one of the most important Factions in this story are the Believers, a massive cult following that believes the ‘Unknowns’ are coming to be ‘with them’, and have spent their whole lives preparing for this moment. Led by the incredibly devious, intelligent, and powerful, Jessica Carver, the Sovereign and leader of the Believers, she is an exceptional character, one that is so incredibly well done, and that even in the final pages of the book, you really don’t know what to think of her, or her motives.
This is true of several characters, Hystad is such an outstanding Character Author that you are not only totally drawn to some of the characters, for example Rex and Veronica become quick favourites, but there are others (I’m not going to say who so there are no spoilers), but others in which you just have no idea of which side they are truly on, or how things are going to play out.
The other thing that makes this book truly extraordinary is the world building, quite literally. Hystad takes us to several different worlds through the bridge, Rimia, and to other places I won’t mention (again, no spoilers). What is common across all of these worlds is just the intense depth, and the incredible detail that he uses to bring each of the locations to life. Even on Earth, the descriptive work is stunning, you really feel like you are in each of the locations as he tells the story, he provides such rich mental images, you can see everything as it plays out, it is masterfully done, and makes these books just brilliant.
Lost Hope is a thrilling finale to what has been an enthralling and utterly fascinating series. Hystad is brilliant in that he creates these stories that are clever, creative, and a wonderfully unique look at the ‘Alien Invasion’ storyline.
Hystad’s story is compelling, and has a brutal realism to it, in that the main characters are not superheroes that can survive anything, they die, so don’t get attached.
This is easily one of the best Sci-Fi series I have read this year, and is an absolute must read for anyone who loves a good Sci-Fi story, whether it be Mil Sci-Fi, Alien Invasion, Space Opera or something else, you will not be disappointed by this series, or this finale, as the final is brilliant, and Hystad does a wonderful job of wrapping everything up so as to not leave any lose ends. Exceptional End to an Exceptional Series!!

Multiple factions compete for earth with mayhem, action and confusion - 3 stars

This story is a contemporary apocalyptic catastrophe. Two sets of aliens and three sets of humans all wanting to be top gun at the expense of earth.

I found portions of the story difficult to follow as there were multiple simultaneous events that were convoluted and unclear.

Occasionally I found a sequence that was interesting. Robotic technology (Umir) that started off as a sphere that morphed into a killing machine was the start of the underworld. Weapons fire made for gruesome injuries but nothing like a being (a "Zalt") that could enter a human body and take over using the human as a "vessel".

Strong aliens complemented strong humans. Like aliens, people took opposite sides, some welcoming the aliens, some trying to prevent an alien invasion and a large number of people who couldn't be bothered until they became cannon fodder.

The US Government was able to provide some even though the highest levels of elected officials had been compromised or (even) actively supported the aliens who wanted to take over the earth.

There was enough material that, played into smaller, easier-to-understand units would make for an interesting series of SiFi apocalyptic adventures. There were large numbers of dark and depressing events with some miraculous flashes of human spirit occasionally made a difference. The dark side had the upper hand.

This is the last book in  this series of three. It does a good job of closing the story and answer all the questions you might have so, in that regard, it was a very good book to read. We're back with Rex Walker and his band of fighters. They have accomplished what they set out to do in book 2 and that was get some help for Earth by crossing the bridge to Kabos and finding the Rodax. Unfortunately and strangely, the Rodax only sent a token amount of help in the form of soldiers. They indicated that the Earth was seeded with a weapons cache at some point in it's past and the Rodax with Rex could find and recover all those weapons, including two alien spaceships.

While this was going on, the Unknowns were getting closer and closer to Earth. The "Believers" were also becoming more active and getting huge numbers of humans ready to mentally accept these aliens into their minds. Sounds strange, I know, but some people are ready to do just about anything! Jessica Carver has been identified as the Sovereign of the Believers and she was in the process of getting everything ready for the Unknowns who actually were aliens called the Zalt. One of the Believers is the current Vice President of the United States named Alan Black. He's done something to the President and his family under the mis-information that the President is ill. Black is soon to be with Jessica and they are setting up an arrival area for the Zalt where thousands of Believers will gather.

Rex Walker's father, Dirk Walker, has decided to stay on Rimia with Opor, but she has been taken over by a Zalt named Rewa. Rewa is not a advocate of invading Earth since she has found that there is suitable life on Rimia. Of course Dirk doesn't like the fact that Opor has been taken by this Zalt so he decides to stay where her in the hopes she will eventually leave the body and his Opor will return. He also has some kind of contact with a Frenchman who has been selected as the vessel that will one day contain the Zalt leader. Through some mysterious power, Dirk realizes that he can control what happens in his own mind as well as what happens to this Frenchman. He's vowed to fight the Zalt anyway he can.

Rex also seems to have the ability to fight off any Zalt takeover and he can also project himself into other peoples mind to help them fight the Zalt that way. Still, he and his band of fighters need more help. They need to find the Freedom Earthers and see what they have done to help fight the Zalt. Rex feels that the Rodax have greatly underestimated the immediate threat the Zalt are to Earth and how close they are to taking over the population. While there are billions of humans on Earth, there are only millions of Zalt who need a human body. Those that aren't needed will die! It's estimated that almost sixty percent of the Earth's population will die once the Zalt are in control. Rex Walker has to stop this maddness!

We've come a long way in this story and we've seen new additions to Rex's following. Most are still there, including Veronica, Tripp and Marcus. They've added an FBI Special Agent name Evan Young. Saul Goldstein is also back, but as far as everyone thinks, he was killed off in book two. One thing I did like about this book is that it went beyond the end of the Zalt and described what happened when things got back to semi-normal. That doesn't usually happen in most books where the enemy is killed and that's that. While it didn't add a lot to the story, it was nice to read that entire section and gave closure to the entire story. Nathan Hystad can write some very interesting books and this is one, but it's really very easy to understand and follow. I think you'll be glad to finished all three books.

This book gets 4 stars...some of that has to go to Ray Porter though. He makes the book with his usual great narration on Audible. This story has many of my favorite themes...aliens, space travel, portals to other planets, a good mystery and well developed characters including the bad ones.

The reason no reviews until this book is that this is one story...the other books are just act 1, 2 to this act 3. I bought book two and three immediately after finishing the previous one, so it kept me engaged. The hero is a bit of a cartoon hero, going from a nice Indiana Jones to a very effective killer of people out to do him in. I'm not complaining, I liked this transformation and it wasn't so over the top that I had a "ya right" moment. This is the first time I read anything by Nathan Hystad and I am hoping it won't be the last. I have more than 5 titles lined up in my Audible, so it will be a while before I jump into his other works.

This was a good Sci-Fi adventure and I would recommend this author and this series. You get your monies worth!

Ahh, the saga ends. The fight was cataclysmic and brutal.

The Zalt (the Unknowns) were preparing for the final part of the plan, where the Zalt inhabited the bodies of their Chosen and the billions of remaining humans died. The planet was perfect and would survive their depredations for years. The Earth would save the Zalt. Only a few Freedom Earthers would see it done, would it be enough? They have to save Earth, their friends, their people! Could the Bridge be part of the solution?
An incredible story, amazing characters shifting sides like sand in a windstorm, surprise revelations on every other page! How many times can a man die, only to be resurrected in another body or turn up unhurt or healing? I got lost trying to keep track. A brilliant conclusion to a most interesting alien incursion! Kept my attention through it all!

The objects have arrived, and they’re hostile. The team shifts from discovery to trying to repel a looming alien invasion. In doing this, they find some unexpected allies and some surprisingly tough enemies. There is plenty of action – almost frenetic in fact – as the story builds towards its conclusion. My attention span almost couldn’t survive this third and final volume, but I held out and was rewarded with a pleasing denouement.

As a series, this was pleasant and entertaining but seemed like it would have benefited from tighter construction or execution. The premise is great, but I struggled to find a hook to make this really stand out. That said this was entertaining and still a worthwhile read.

A good end good the series.

Alien invasions, alien help, a massive struggle, and yet ....... as always we have our heroes, and can the human race pull through, with a little help. The book seemed go on forever, so I was left satisfied, rather than depressed waiting for the next instalment. Make sure you start from the beginning. Our intrepid archaeologist, looking for whatever killed his father, and ends up fighting a cult from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, just in time for the final invasion, to take over the Earth's resources, including the people. Can we survive? Read on..

This is the third book in The Bridge Sequence series. This book continues on with plenty of action. The main characters continue to develop and reveal their pasts. There are some great twists in the plot that I didn’t see coming making for exciting reading. I found it difficult to put this book down. The final chapters really pull everything together and the ending is very satisfying and not predictable. I recommend this book to all readers but reading the previous books in the series is quite necessary to pull everything together for the reader.

Loads of Action

I enjoyed these books. There are interesting characters that are very believable and likable. Also a lot of action that keeps you turning the page to see what happens next.

The only thing I really didn’t like was the author switching from first person in Rex and then sometimes first person in Bill or Veronica and then in omnipotent viewpoint.
It had me off and going back to read what I had already read in order to figure out who was speaking.

All in all an enjoyable read. If you like outer space sagas, or otherworldly sagas, you will probably enjoy this.

I thoroughly enjoyed this conclusion to The Bridge Sequence. The Believers show us how easily it is to be consumed by an ideology that goes against the true well-being of humanity. It is such a scary thought to think our minds could be taken over by aliens because we are Believers. It is just a small group of people who fight for humanity, and they include aliens with whom they have made a bargain. Nathan Hystad has wrung out such a wonderful tale that makes one have a desire for reading more of his tales. Thank you for another great read.

It is a good conclusion, but I don't understand Beverly constantly blaming her father and brother or thinking that Rimia ruined her family's lives. Does she not understand that the Zalt were coming regardless, and she and her children would be taken over even if Dirk and Rex didn't search for the promised land? They didn't ruin her life. They gave her and humanity a fighting chance. The Zalt left for earth a couple thousand years ago, and the Believers were around and infiltrated before she was even born.

Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. This brilliant trilogy that has combined a gritty mystery, intergalactic time travel and an enigmatic species of aliens that you aren't quite sure of whose side they're on. We have reached the end of a journey that while being labyrinthine and weighty in scope of narrative, the author Nathan Hystad didn't fail in keeping your eyes glued as you turned pages soaking the adventure up. A fantastic way to finish it... highly recommended.

This is the final book in this trilogy and I totally enjoyed it.

There are lots of characters and subplots in this series, so I would recommend reading book one and two first. You'll be rewarded with a great story with some likeable and not so likeable characters.

This final instalment moves from subplot to subplot very quickly, it's hard to put the book down wanting to find out what happens next. It all wraps up nicely in the conclusion. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this series of books. I read the first book and enjoyed it but I felt i needed a break from it the series for a while. I then read the second and third book consecutively and really enjoyed it. I liked the characters of Rex and Veronica with their will they won’t they relationship. Tripp was a character that grew on me too. I enjoyed the premise of the book of an alien invasion but done very differently. I would recommend anyone to read this series.

An excellent end to the trilogy

This final book was more thriller than mystery, though mystery was not absent. Both aspects were pretty well done and quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, there was some vulgar language, and a limited amount of sex. It was action-filled right up until the end. There were places near the end that were difficult for me to follow as I began to lose track of who was who for a while. Enjoyed the ending.

This is a GREAT series!

The first book started a little slow, but boy am I glad I hung in there! The story could easily become a TV series in my opinion. The tale really has a some Indiana Jones, mystery, sci-fi and fantasy, with some government conspiracy thrown in and alien invasion for good measure.Very entertaining an I highly recommend reading the series in order. You will enjoy this series!

Wow!

I really think this is Nathan Hystad's best work. The culmination of The Bridge Sequence Book Three ties everything up quite nicely. Plenty of action. Help from the Rodax. Dealing with the Believers. Dirk finding Opor again, finding his family, battling the Salt -- wow! You'll have to read it for yourself and find out how it all gets pieced together.

4.5⭐️ Audiobook — once again, I absolutely loved and appreciated Ray Porter’s 5⭐️ narration. This was probably the best book of the trilogy, and I liked the way it ended. However, somewhere in the back third of the book I got a little confused with all the new aliens that were introduced. It was a little difficult to follow. Still, it was an entertaining series and I enjoyed it.

Predictable Science Fiction Story!

I was hoping for a totally unique, surprising, "other-worldly" adventure--with thrilling action, and genuine, intense emotions!
In addition, the author did not use appropriate words to describe the scenes of the story or the behaviors of the characters! I hope for improvement in the next story somewhere in the galaxy!

Man oh man do I love the conclusion to this series. The build up was worth the wait, the stakes were always high but the execution was it for me. 'Lost Hope' delivered everything a Scifi adventure has to offer. The tension, growth of the characters, the action, the wonderful pacing all culminated here in this fast paced finale. Thank you Mr Hystad and I'd definitely recommend 🫡💪🏼

Rex and his friends have returned to Earth and thus begins the battle for Earth. It was fun, entertaining, lots of action and great characters all coming together in the big finale. I was glued to the end to see how and what Rex would have to survive and beat this time. Loved it.

Interesting

I missed the connection between book 2 and 3 but caught up. The story concept was interesting, just didn’t like jumping amongst protagonists and having to figure out who was up. Still not bad.

Easily the worst of the trilogy. I was expecting some grand finish but it all fizzled out. The characters became interchangeable and boring. This novel needed serious editing, as well. There are several pieces of dialogue repeated several times.
