Enjoyed re-reading Final Reckoning for book club!!
Final Reckoning was such a satisfying conclusion to the Hostile Takeover trilogy! It was nice to see some familiar faces from the first and second books and learn more about the messed-up Kane family (seriously, what has been driving them through the years?!?). Two things that I really like about this thriller (and the first two in the trilogy) are the good characters are likeable and the narrators are reliable (what a relief after reading way too many books recently with the "unreliable narrator" trope!). A solid read that kept me on the edge of my seat!
I did not stop until all three books of this set had been read. Fascinating stories, great characters. The books so interesting you feel like you know them. Derek Blount definitely has made me a fan!
In this final installment, we finally learn what the heck has been the driver for all the preceding craziness, and of course it is twisted sister (or in this case, brother) uber-crazy. We get two villains who are brilliantly psychopathic, and characters from books one and two join forces as it all comes together. There are twists and turns as the story develops, and the ending is heartbreaking and beautiful. I really loved this series.
This is the third book in a trilogy. The first and third novels were great, the second I didn't like.
I wasn't very taken with the premise as to why the villains were doing what they were doing. And, yes, there were lots of unlikely last-minute rescues.
What I really liked was that some of the main characters from the first and second novels reappeared. These were all "good guy" characters so it was wonderful to see them again.
I also liked that there were lots of small details that showed up later in the novel in a meaningful manner. For example, a father and child learning about fire engines together.
Lots of twists and turns, lots of action, lots of fun!
