I betrayed them all. I delivered the dagger to the underworld.
And yet, the masters of the academy did not expel me. Instead, they gave me my wings and told me there is a plan for me.
A plan for me? Sometimes it seems they've forgotten who I am. What I am.
I can't forget. Nor can I forgive myself. But there might be a way to redeem myself. When the archangels offer me a chance to go to earth, I snatch it up. It means I'll learn more about mortality. How to relate to humans.
And it means I'll get to spend more time with Maalik, the angel who taught me how to feel joy.
Except earth is dangerous. Earth has temptations. Earth is confusing. And there are too many choices. I don't know what's right or wrong anymore. And I may have just ushered in the Great War.
Welcome to Guardian Angel Academy.
Year 2: Redemption is the second book in an exciting new teen/YA paranormal angel academy series with a slow burn enemies-to-lovers romance. Perfect for fans of Supernatural Academy, Dark Angel Academy, Shadowspell Academy, and Evermore Academy.
This second instalment picks up exactly where we left off, with a Jez about to progress up to 2nd year at GAA with her brand new wings. Still struggling to come to terms with the sins of her past life, Jez starts to worry about her shallow understanding of human emotions and how that will affect her progress as a guardian.
With the help of the archangel Michael, it is decided that Jez is to be returned to Earth as a foster child, to experience the normal highs and low of teenage life. But there is temptare at every turn and something even more sinister lurking just out of sight.
Clearly a nice chuck of time as this one is most certainly a page turner.
In Year 2: Redemption(Guardian Angel Academy) by Tamara Hart Heiner, despite a mistake made, Jez wasn't expelled but somehow advanced. Not being able to forgive herself she works on a way to redeem herself. Also, because she never experienced mortality, she didn't know how to relate to humanity so she was sent to Earth to learn more. While there some things don't go as expected. I really enjoyed this book that I was fortunate to receive from the writer. I hope to read the rest of the series. This book is available on Amazon
Year 2: Redemption is the second book in the Guardian Angel Academy series by Tamara Hart Heiner and is the direct sequel to Year 1: Renegrade.
Where the first book takes place entirely at the academy, Jez now also goes on an adventure outside the academy in this part. During her lessons on human emotions, the teachers and Jez soon discover that they are difficult to understand without having lived on Earth. While Maalik is busy with his assignment on Earth, Jez and her teachers decide that having an earthly experience might be the best thing to do. Jez is sent to earth under the guidance of Maalik to live here as an ordinary teenager. In the meantime, she also helps Maalik to keep an eye on his assignment, which threatens to take the wrong path. Will Maalik be able to successfully complete his assignment? How does Jez like life on earth? What will she learn about emotions?
After reading the first part I was very enthusiastic about the Guardian Angel Acedemy series, but could this part match this level again? If it is up to me, it certainly does. Although Year 2: Redemption does not take place entirely at the academy, Jez grows a lot as a person. She learns more about complex emotions and she also knows how to control the light better and better. While the first part also plays an important role for Maalik, in the beginning he seems to fade into the background. However, he also gets an important role during the story, but in my opinion his presence in this part was less essential.
Tamara Hart Heiner has a fine writing style which makes the story easy to read. The story has a good structure and the introduction of new characters gives the story a nice atmosphere. All really important characters are worked out, giving you a good idea of their characters.
I am very curious what else is waiting for Jez in the next parts, and I am very curious about the third part called Year 3: Rebellion that will be released on May 1.
Caution: Mormon cult errors and assumptions abound
I started this book without knowing anything about the author, her background or any of her other books. The typos are annoying but tolerable. I think she used a speech-to-text app, and some words got mangled.
I read the first book and noticed a significant departure from orthodox Christianity. For example, in her version of heaven, everyone gets a do-over, and has the opportunity after their death to decide their own fate. People get to decide if they want to stay in heaven or prefer to go to hell. Free will is sacred and God never violates a person’s free will.
Jesus is never mentioned by name. He is referred to as the “First Emissary” because He was the first to be sent to Earth on a mission from the Father, and is described as the “first created being”. (this is a serious heresy!)
Christmas is glossed over without the significance of things like the star on the tree being explained. These are only a few examples.
So, my final warning is: even though it’s a minimally entertaining read, it’s based on Mormon heresies. Don’t draw any Biblical conclusions from this author’s version of heaven, God, Jesus or eternity.
Another fantastic book in the series! This book picks up pretty much where the previous book leaves off, with Jez entering into her second year at the academy. And in a fun and surprising twist, Jez manages to talk her way into going to earth!! I was not expecting this, as we previously learned that this is something that doesn’t typically happen until you become a third year student. However, Jez was able to persuade Barachiel into letting her go, arguing that in order to truly understand human emotions, she needed to experience them for herself as a mortal on earth. I absolutely loved everything about this book! That ending left me reeling and I cannot wait to find out what happens next!! If you’ve read and enjoyed the first book then you will undoubtedly love this one!!
I’m a note taker, names, dates, events etc, but I couldn’t put this book down to even do that. I read through my notes from the first book to see what names continued on, there’s quite a few, Jez, Master Cassiel, Master Ingram, Eldermaster Barachiel, Iblis, Maalik, and more. They continue on as 2nd n 3rd years at Guardian Angel Academy and what they must do and learn to continue on. Some assignments easier than others, like night n day or heaven n hell. My heart tore for Maalik after learning what she did, yet I felt so bad for Jez and the guilt she still feels from her past. I can’t wait til Rebellion comes out in 16 days!!!
Absolutely loved the first book and was super excited to continue the series. It was a bit slow in the beginning but definitely worth continuing on. Seeing the characters struggle with their emotions was refreshing. Although some points of the story were 100% predictable, I was okay with it because I still wanted to see what the characters would do. I definitely was more invested in the romance of this series and that ending left me needing to read the next book. This does not get a full 5 stars from me because the world is not explored as much as it was in the first and I think this “world” really makes this series special. More questions were left unanswered.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. This is the second book in this series. It does pick up where the first book left off. Jez has her newly gained wings and unlike where most of the book took place at the academy this one has her going off outside of the school. Of course, not everything goes as planned. There is a lot of emotion in this book it goes from highs and lows. I really felt for the characters and how Jez is trying to redeem herself. She is feeling that she might fall back into the darkness that had a grip on her before. I can't wait to see where the story goes.
It's a good story. It is full of joy and a bit of anxiety for most of the book. There were tears of joy and sorrow. But I find the ending to be rather heart wrenchingly saddening. I hope that this is but a momentary derailing which will be put right in forthcoming books.
Action-packed. Entertaining. Great world building. Haunting. Inspirational. Romantic. Scary. Tear-jerker. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.
I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.
Year 2: Redemption is the second book of the Guardian Academy series by Tamara Heiner. Unlike the first book, the storyline for this one takes place mostly outside of the academy. Through the storyline, Jez continues to grow in her own person and learns more about emotions and her light ability. I personally thought that this second book was a really great sequel as the author dives deeper into our main character and the storyline continues to be engaging.
This was an excellent addition to this series. Jez with her new wings is on her way to earth as a teenager something of which she never dared to dream. Unfortunately, all does not go as plan. With emotional overload, Underlings and Temptares she finds herself in danger of slipping into the dark once again. I really enjoyed this book and I definitely plan to read the next installment. I requested a free review copy of this book through StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A seamlessly continuation from book one. But instead of taking place only at the Academy Jez is sent to Earth. Unlike its previous novel this was mostly based on Jez and her coming into herself as Light instead of Darkness while exploring the human emotions. Rather face paced, exciting and a lot of sorrow. I’ll look forward to book three.
I’m loving this series so far. I can’t believe how it left off... totally pulled at my heart strings! So good! I wish the next book was out already haha! Can’t wait to find out what happens next. I feel so bad for Jez!!!
Book two continued this great adventure. It's a page-turner you don't want to put down. So excited for the next book in the series to come out. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
