Moonlight Square #3

Nespútaný vojvoda

Rate this book

FINALLY !

YouTube is back to normal, so I can concentrate now and write book reviews again ! Yep ! Harold Mongrelpup and I have said our prayers to the YouTube gods for getting our fav eclectic music video playlist available again and now it's back to business...

And, it's a delight to write a book review on this fabulous, entertaining novel by Gaelen Foley.

I've had this on my currently reading bookshelf for months now and hadn't actually started it because it was so long and I kept getting tempted by lots of shorter novels. But, oh how I've regretted not reading this earlier, because this is a keeper. It's got a H I love so much that I will definitely be stealing his name, "Connor", and using it for my first born son. And, the heroine Lady Margaret is also an endearing, feisty, funny young woman with an adventurous spirit and a mind of her own. Gaelen Foley has created a well crafted complicated plot that unfolds at a moderate pace. Her many characters are so well sketched and unique, that it's easy to picture them all ( even the minor characters ) in my mind's eye. That made it easy to keep reading even though the book was lengthier than most historicals that are produced these days.

Connor's the new Duke of Amberley and has travelled all the way from his home in Ireland, to take up his new position in his grand mansion on Moonlight Square. He's the type of alpha H who's so comfortable with his "alpha-ness" that he doesn't have to be growly and mean all the time. At some points, he's so funny, cool, down to earth, tender and chivalrous that he almost seems like a Beta H. But, during the critical or crisis situations, it's obvious that he's an alpha H because he's such an ultra badass when it comes to fighting evil and beating the shit out of his enemies. Moreover, he's not a manwhore, like that skankaholic H from Duke of Scandal , who had 2 kids with his former penis polishers. Connor's not a virgin and he definitely knows his way around the female form, but he's spent his entire adult life as a soldier so he hasn't engaged in bed hopping with many faceless OW. He also came across as a fastidious and discerning sort of guy when it comes to women; he proved this when he and his friends went to the brothel to investigate Seth, the mystery guy/villain, and he showed not one iota of interest in any of the women who were throwing themselves at him.

He's like this dog who is able to say "no" to the ball just because he can...

Connor's a hot 75% Irish hottie with his dark hair, smoldering blue eyes and muscular 6 ft. 4 inch frame. He despises the snobbery that exists within the Ton and I loved how he deliberately played up his Irish brogue just to annoy the uppity lords and ladies who looked down on him because of his Irish heritage.

This is the H, Connor:

( Aside: Connor's so handome and smoking hot that only a photo of my fav famous man, Henry Cavill, will do. Lol ).

The H finds himself at a middle of an assassination attempt as soon as he lands on English soil. That's the key secondary plot that propels all the drama in this novel. The villain's aim is the kill him because he's the final male in his family tree. If he dies, then the title and entailed properties will revert to the Crown and that's what the villains desire most of all. The first chapter is filled with suspense because it's told from the assassin's perspective. The killer, Seth, is waiting at the London docks to murder Connor as soon as he disembarks from the ship. But the funniest thing happens, though. Connor is such a badass that he senses this asshole is following him and takes the villain by surprise in the following scene:

Suddenly—before he could move—something startling happened. Without warning, Amberley dropped the duffel bag and spun around, lifting his arms out to his sides.

“Well?” he challenged Seth. “Come on, then. Are you gonna try it, or you gonna follow me around all night, you stupid bleeder?”

Foley, Gaelen. Duke of Storm (Moonlight Square, Book 3) (Kindle Locations 147-150). Gaelen Foley. Kindle Edition.

And boy, did Connor sock his ass good and well ! Lol.

It was so enjoyable, reading that ass whupping scene, but the H didn't kill Seth because he thought that the villain was merely a stupid pickpocket and Connor's not a vicious killer. The vicious ass whupping did make Seth turn to a more cowardly means of assassination, though, such as poisoning. Fortunately, Connor failed to eat the food and it was his friend Rory who tasted a little of it and got ill. All of this just served to make the H resent his new title and responsibilities but he didn't run back to Ireland. Instead, he decided to take the Ton by its horns and mingle with snobs in their own setting. That's where he ends up meeting the heroine, Lady Margaret.

This is the heroine, Margaret:

Maggie ( as she prefers to be called ) is terribly unhappy with her present living conditions, because her older sister Delia is an emotionally vicious hagwitch who delights in making her life hell. Maggie believes that the only solution to her problem is marriage, because that will provide her with her own household where she won't have to live as the eternal poor relation. The heroine's current plan is to get a marriage proposal from an annoying foppish dandy called Lord Bryce. That idiot is the only guy that the harpy Delia hasn't managed to scare away. Unbeknownst to Maggie, however, is the fact that Lord Bryce is a homosexual who is only keen on using her as his beard. Connor is attracted to Maggie from the first time their eyes meet across the crowded ballroom but he is distracted when the asshole Bryce challenges him to a duel.

This takes the storyline into some very humorous areas, for a while, when Maggie decides to strike a deal with Connor: she begs him to spare Bryce's life, in the duel, because Bryce is her only avenue of escape from her sister Delia. Of course, things don't work out as Maggie had expected because Maggie soon realizes that Bryce is a mean, selfish jackass at the same time that she's getting all hot and bothered over Connor. The H, meanwhile, is unable to concentrate on his plan to find his wannabe assassin because his mind is always on the feisty, charming heroine. The 2 soon make a deal to work together in a bid to investigate this plot to murder the H: Connor needs Maggie's insider knowledge about some of the suspects on his list, since those individuals are also members of the Ton.

What I loved about this novel was the fact that the MC's realized they loved each other midway into the story ! There was none of the usual pushing, pulling and fighting and the H proposed to her around the 49% marker of the story:

“It was different with all my other suitors,” Maggie confessed. “I just wanted out of Delia’s house, and I still do. But with you… Connor, I care for you so much. I know it’s fast; I know it’s reckless. And I am not trying to be difficult, o-or hurt your feelings. It’s just…I would want you to want me for more than just a marriage of convenience.”

“But, Maggie, I do.” His glower vanished, replaced by a soulful stare as he cupped her face.

“God, what a coward I am. Forgive me,” he whispered, “I feared what you’d say. I didn’t want to look a fool. But I am one. God knows I am.”

He swallowed hard. “A fool in love with you.”

Maggie touched his chest in an awestruck caress. “I feel the same.”

“You do?” She nodded, full of wonder.

He caressed her arm. “Well, then…?”

“Yes,” she said, trembling. “I will marry you.”

Foley, Gaelen. Duke of Storm (Moonlight Square, Book 3) (Kindle Locations 4230-4238). Gaelen Foley. Kindle Edition.

This novel was unique because the romantic storyline was pretty much wrapped up around this time, and, it was a fairly smooth ride for them, romantically, from this time onwards:

That made me really happy, because I was able to just sit back, relax and concentrate on the rest of the plot that focused on their efforts to catch the villains.

I'll refrain from giving out spoiler information about the assassination plot and the unmasking of the villains, because I never do that in book reviews that contain mysteries and murders. But, I will highlight some of the other entertaining aspects of this novel:

1. The H's rag tag group of loyal army buddies were a lot of fun, especially the parts that included their hilarious attempts to acclimate to life in the Moonlight Square ducal townhouse.

2. The cameo appearances of the MC's from Duke of Secrets were very enjoyable and it was wonderful to see that they were still happy and in love.

3. The heroine's love-hate relationship with her sister Delia and all the OTT shenanigans that went with that minor storyline. This storyline did have a happy ending because Delia eventually apologized, mended her bad ways and became a good sister who even organized a fantastic society wedding for the MC's.

4. The storyline about the sourpuss Dowager duchess, Lucinda, who'd also been a former courtesan 50 years ago was a shocking addition, especially since that "lady" made it her business to treat other women like crap. Her bullying hypocrisy was quite OTT and I really hoped that she would be punished for her deeds and her role in causing so much tragedy. But, alas ! She got no comeuppance, although the heroine did insult her publicly in front of the Ton at...

5. The minor storyline about the mentally challenged scullery maid, Saffie, who'd been seduced and impregnanted by the villain Seth was quite sad. But that lady got her happy ending when one of Connor's army buddies married her and claimed her child as his own.

Gaelen Foley's storytelling drew me in and kept me interested from beginning to end. There was a lot of mystery, romance, laughter, sadness and lots more to enjoy. It was a long book to read but it was worth it. I wished I had actually started it when I'd first placed it on my currently reading shelf so many months ago. I am hoping that the author will write a novel about the heroine's friend Phoebe and her fiance - the duke who's interested in entomology. They seem like such an interesting couple plus I've never come across a duke who's an entomologist nerd before...

Safety: No cheating, no OW, a wannabe, gay OM. The H's not a manwhore.

ARC received from author

Great addition to the Moonlight Square series. There was action, intrigue, adventure, love, laughter, sex, and some seriously grumpy relatives. Connor and Maggie were great. I'm glad there was no angst and long drawn out decisions on being together. Lots of scenes with the peeps from previous books, plus a couple sweet side hook-ups. Now can Peter have a HEA of his own?

4'5 Estrellitas.

Short review.

Rating 3.75

Connor our hero inherits a dukedom, he was a major in the war before he became a duke. But he's learned all the past dukes have mysteriously died. He believes he just might be next.

Lady Margaret lives with her not so sweet sister and very sweet brother-in-law. It's been very difficult living in their home as she isn't treated respectfully by her sister. She thinking she need to marry to escape her sister's bullying.

Lady Margaret has her eye on a possible prospect but a situation arises that involves Connor. Well the two end up working on finding his possible killer and in the mean time find themselves falling in love.

There wasn't much mystery here as you know right away who the "bad" guys are. But I found about 2/3 of the book fairly engaging with some parts that did drag.

I found the characters likable and the storyline fairly good (with some exceptions as I mentioned).

This was an OK read- nothing to go crazy about. The sub-plot was quite complex and went on a bit long, but there was heaps of action and I really liked the hero. He was a good, strong guy.
The heroine annoyed me at times. She was clearly meant to be a contrast to the hero, much softer and more compassionate, but if she had just let him get on with it, the villains would have been out of the picture much earlier (and I guess we would have had a shorter book!). I also struggled to understand how well-trained men could be so slack that the house they guarded was easily penetrated by the bad guys. But then, there would have been no dramatic finale, either.
In the end, I am a hopeless sucker for a sexy Irishman and his darlin'. I would have taken Connor, straight up, no questions asked!
Here's a sexy Irishman - just like Connor :)

Clearly I am in the minority here, but this book was about as memorable as the other books in this series - which means not very memorable at all. I've read every single book Gaelen Foley's ever written and I'm sad to say that she's never managed to recapture the charm of the Knights' series. (Note that I read those books years ago and upon a re-read might have to change my opinion, but for now, I'll go with it.)

The blurb: After a string of deaths, Major Connor Forbes finds himself the new Duke of Amberley. While trying to investigate the suspicious deaths of his kin, and navigate the prejudices of the ton (he's Irish), he meets Lady Maggie Winthrop. A young woman desperate to marry and get out from under the thumb of her horrid sister, Maggie makes a deal with Connor: she will help him find his way amongst the ton, if he promises not to kill the man she plans to marry in an upcoming duel.

Maggie starts out as a timid young woman who allows her sister to make a doormat of her. Honestly, the sister, Delia, was so cartoonishly mean I rolled my eyes at a lot of her nonsense. There was no depth to her at all. She was just too over the top to take seriously. And of course, despite all the appalling things she says and does to Maggie, the two are hugging and giggling together by the end of the novel. Nope. I don't buy it. Anyway, as the novel progresses, Maggie becomes more bold - at Connor's encouragement - until she eventually becomes this powerhouse who takes no shit from no one, Connor included. Sounds like some pretty decent character development, but it's executed pretty poorly IMO.

Then there's Connor, a man who is on a mission to uncover the suspicious deaths of his kinsmen. He's a man who's commanded an army and expects the same blinding loyalty from his wife that he expects from his soldiers i.e. unquestioning faith and zero contradiction of his word. Which would make for some pretty interesting conflict between the two main characters, right? Except Connor and Maggie are already deeply in love before the half-way mark and this "streak" of Connor's only rears it's head in the final third of the book. Convenient way to create tension between the characters to boost the word count. (And talking about word count, what's with the anachronisms Gaelen? You should know better.)

Anyway, as people, Connor and Maggie are pretty decent, they were just so bland. Plus, we spent so much time in the mind of the villain, that I ended up skimming past a load of pages detailing the killer's inner musings - I just wasn't interested.

So, this is basically a story of insta-love between two characters whose chemistry never rose above a simmer. Insert a murder sub-plot and a few ridiculous OTT characters and we have this book. Pretty average.

3,5 stars! Though at first the romance felt a little too insta, it actually ended up working for me. I liked the mystery better than in the second book and it didn't drag the plot.

Maggie was a wonderful heroine. She may have started a little insecure but after meeting Connor she became this brave little thing, and so stubborn too. Love her!

Connor took a little longer to warm up to, but once he started to fall for Maggie he became such a clumsy bear trying to win the lady's affection, it was hilarious but also lovely to read. I also enjoyed his groveling when he finally admitted he did wrong. It's always nice to see heroes admit when they're wrong, even if it takes them a while hehe.

Foley's writing continues to be engaging and I can't wait for more books in the series. It was also great to see Trinny and the rest of the gang! Especially the baby!

The dukes of Amberly keep dying under mysterious circumstances, and Connor, the 4th duke in less than that many years, wants to live. The newly-minted Irish duke is an outsider in the ton, and he's going to need help of someone with connections to get to the bottom of these deaths.

Enter Maggie, a young debutant that will marry just about anyone to get out from under the thumb of her tyrannical sister. She strikes up a bargain with Connor ("Please do not kill this man who is courting me in a duel and in turn I shall help you solve murders in a manner to be specified at a later date." C'mon Maggie, do not enter an open-ended contract.), they devise a communication system with lanterns and windows, then before they know it they're in love. Do they know who is killing dukes? No. But they do know that they want to have sex with each other. Baby steps.

Barely 3 stars. Good god did this drag! Good beginning and then a whole lot of nothing. I love a long story, but this was just a series of blunders merely to keep the murder plot going. For a military man that was supposedly skilled in private ops, he was not very good at recon. This character would have worked better if he was an Irish farmer or horse breeder instead of an elite military man because it really just made him look like he didn't know what he was doing. Aside from brute force, it's amazing he survived the war he was in.

Oh, I did enjoy reading this. Took a bit longer to finish - over 400 pages. I though Maggie and Connor were so good together. I liked Connor's character the best - he was so nice to Maggie and all his friends he made. Lovely read. 5☆

Suspense, Romance and the Regency

Enjoyed the mix of suspense as Connor and Maggie set out to track down the villain who wants to see the Duke(s) of Amberly dead - including Connor. Hero is Irish and thrust into the title after his predecessor was murdered.

I've been a diehard fan of Gaelen Foley since discovering her Knight Miscellany Series ten years ago. Duke of Storm, the 3rd book in her Moonlight Square Series, is a great example of why I love her books. It had a hero and heroine that I quickly adored, some great secondary characters, plenty of action, spellbinding intrigue, and a sweet romance.

Connor Forbes, an Irishman, has barely returned from the Napoleonic Wars when he learns that he has become the Duke of Amberley. As soon as he departs the ship to take over his title and estates, he is attacked. He soon becomes convinced that someone is not only trying to kill him, but has also murdered the last three dukes, who all died within a short time period.

Connor meets Lady Margaret Winthrop when he is backed into challenging her suitor to a duel and she pleads for him to be spared. Soon Connor and Maggie are allies and she him to search for clues to who wants him dead. As their relationship deepens into something more, they must solve the mysteries of the past and make it through danger before they can have a chance at a future together.

I loved both Connor and Maggie, and thought they were great together. I really enjoyed the way Maggie wanted to help Connor and how protective he was of her. They made a great team, and I liked how they pretty easily got past the facets of one another's personalities that could have been stumbling blocks. The storyline kept me interested, and I loved the historical Regency setting. This was a great addition to the series!

I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Zatiaľ čo ostatné série Gaelen Foley si v každej knihe udržiavajú určitú líniu či atmosféru, Moonlight Square narúša túto zaužívanú koncepciu a razí si vlastnú cestu.

"Dedičstvo a titul mu spadli do lona z jasného neba, akoby ho zasypal zlatom škriatok. Postavenie, moc a bohatstvo väčšie, než si človek dokáže predstaviť. (str. 82)

V tomto smere oceňujem úvod knihy, kde dochádza k prvému stretu medzi Connorom a vrahom Sethom. Maggie si nerobí žiadne ilúzie, no situácia sa dramaticky zmení, keď pod vplyvom nečakaných okolností dochádza k duelu medzi lordom Bryceom a novopečeným vojvodom z Amberley.

Božemôj, Amberley si to už spojil s ním..." (str. 311)

This is the type of HR I love, yes there is romance and a lovely one at that, but there is also action that is throughout the novel giving suspense and driving the plot forward.
Connor has recently inherited a dukedom he didn’t know he was in line for when his predecessors have mysteriously met earlier demises. As a condition of saving her beau’s life, he and the heroine, Maggie, team up to solve the mystery of who has been killing of the dukes and just so happen to fall in love at the same time.
I preferred the hero in this, a former soldier, he had plenty of charm and humour not a typical Byronic hero that so often feature in these novels. I found Maggie a tad more annoying, in her mind she could do no wrong and by the end of the novel she did come across quite stubborn. Also as much as she played it down, I think she did over react to the Connor when it became clear he was a soldier through and through, in the words of the novel, he wasn’t in the war to play cribbage...but Maggie seems to be in shock when she is presented with his combat skills.
The plot with the assassin makes a nice change, there is a constant threat and the reader is acutely aware of how much danger (if we believe they are ever actually IN danger we are guaranteed a hea after all) the H/h are in through the periodical viewpoints from the hunter. I think the motive could have been better but I don’t think it matters, it gives a plot and will thus suffice.

I haven’t read the other novels in the series but I can tell there were a few cameos from the previous protagonists so I am sure fans will be happy to see returning couples.

The secondary characters were well done, I liked that Maggie didn’t treat her maid as a servant but as a friend, and actually that having a maid is even acknowledged they are often just mentioned in passing but the truth would be that the servants would be present at all times. Connor’s army mates also had their distinct personalities, I would love to see a novella about Will and Saffie.

This is a romance so of course there is plenty of steam, luckily this isn’t a complete bodice ripper, although the time period is quite quick we can see the affection develop. Yes some may argue there is insta love but I would disagree, the characters are certainly drawn to each other but I think the threat on the dukes life does prevent instant romance.

Altogether a great novel, only marked it down as I didn’t like the heroine too much but nice quick read that is a page turner.

I have read all of the Moonlight Square novels, and I must say, they just keep getting better and better. This love story of two soul mates, both of whom feel like outsiders, was a joy to read. Keeping it lively was the mystery of the murders of the Dukes of Amberley 1, 2 and 3.

Gaelen does something very interesting with this book. From the very beginning, she tells the reader who the murderer is. It takes our Hero and Heroine a little longer to find out. So one would think all the suspense would be gone, correct? Well, one would be very wrong. Gaelen weaves a fine tale, because we fear for Duke #4 and Maggie's safety, and we don't know WHY the murders were committed in the first place. All we know is that they want the family line wiped out.

So, we have Major Connor Forbes, military intelligence officer, now 4th Duke of Amberley, fresh off the boat from Ireland and extremely wary of everything and everyone since all 3 of his predecessors have been killed in the last 2 years. Just back from Waterloo, all he wants is a peaceful existence, but instead, he will have to fight a different battle, one within the ton as he is not considered "one of us". Since he doesn't know the rules he needs some help. He finds a friendly face in Maggie at his first dance, and when fate brings them together a 2nd time, he enlists her aid. She becomes his ally, and helps him develop other friendships quickly. These friends also help him with the murder investigation.

Lady Margaret "Maggie" Winthrop is a tiny girl, quiet and the perfect lady. She has always tried to keep the peace. Her sister Delia, Lady Birdwell, whom she now lives with, is an abusive bully who lies about Maggie to others, and constantly puts her down. When she sees Connor at his first ball on Moonlight Square, even though she is currently being courted by another, she is fascinated by him and can't look away. And he is fascinated right back! As they get to know one another, Connor helps Maggie by giving her the courage to stand up for herself, and building her self esteem..

I love Gaelen's writing. Even though it's a Regency romance, the people don't speak all stuffy. They use more 21st century phraseology. It's fun and it works. So, get your cup of Chai Latte, grab this book, and have a blast with the gang from Moonlight Square!

Each book is better than the last! This one was full of action, romance, and raw sensuality. Connor is an Irish major decorated in the Napoleonic Wars and expects life to follow his orders. Lady Maggie Winthrop, a spinster living in her sister's home since her father's death, has taken orders long enough. When they have to band together to solve a series of murders in Connor's family, sparks fly.I didn't want to stop reading once I started, but I had to slow my reading rate so that I didn't miss anything. There were numerous twists and new discoveries as the book progressed, and the ending was wildly exciting.

What I liked:
A-Connor was strong and honorable, but he didn't have a clue of how to deal with Maggie when she didn't perform as ordered. And Maggie, after she stopped accepting whatever her sister dished out, was a force to be reckoned with. But the make-up sex was great!
B- If Grandaunt Lucinda and Delia had joined forces, Heaven help England, France and beyond! I felt sorry for Edward until he admitted that he had anticipated Delia's temperament when he married her.
C-Connor's friends were good, obedient soldiers, and loyal to the end. But they were also individuals, wishing for their own share of happiness.
D-Seth Darrow and Elias Flynn were superlative villains who required the end they received.

My only criticism was that I noted a couple terms that didn't seem to fit the time period, but this didn't hamper my enjoyment. I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I can't wait for the next resident of Moonlight Square!

Book 4 in the series regency historical. I have loved Gaelen Foley regency since the Duke . Once I saw another Historical I had to get it .

Hero is Connor. Heroine is Maggie
Connor is Irish and he inherited a Dukedom. He does want it or need it . Connor was a major i the army and he prefers the simple life. But it seems his male relations are dropping off like flies . Connor is on a boat on his way to moonlight square where the dukes house is. He gets off the boat and is attacked . He bests the attacker . Connor sets up his men in the Dukes house when his food is poisoned 🤢.
One night he goes to a ball in the square and that is where he sees Maggie watching him under the cover of her eyelashes . Connor can’t get Maggie out of his sights also .
Connor tries to do the right thing and leave . But Connor is insulted by a gentleman and his party . They accuse Connor of killing off the relatives so he can become Duke !! A Duel is agreed upon.
Maggie goes to the Dukes house and tries to tell him not to Duel. She was hoping for a marriage proposal from the other gentleman
Does Connor back down from the Duel. Who is after Connor and the males of the family

The previous 3 Dukes of Amberly have died in a short period of time. The new Duke is from Ireland and faces much discrimination. The Ton wants nothing to do with him but it is up to him to figure out what happened to the other three Dukes when he learns that others believed they were murdered. He needs an entrée to the Ton which he gets through his neighbor, Lady Margaret Winthrop, who lives with her married sister.

I liked Connor, the new Duke, but I loved Maggie (Margaret). She was feisty and would not let Connor treat her like his troops. Her sister I would have loved to dropped kicked her. She was a witch of the first order. Thoroughly disagreeable! The male villain was somewhat predictable. He did what I figured he would from the beginning although his "accomplice" at the end was unexpected. I also liked the other members of Moonlight Square and their insights into Maggie and her sister, as well as their support of Connor.

I am enjoying this series more and more. The women are independent and the men can handle them and work with them instead of trying to put them into a stereotypical role.

If I do say so myself it just doesn’t get much better than a Gaelen Foley, historical romance. I fell in love with her writing style and this is a marvelous addition to the Moonlight Square Series, in my humble opinion. Added to her unique writing style a sexy unconventional Duke, especially one that was never intended to have the title, and you have one fantastic read.

Connor is an Irish war hero, who suddenly inherits a Dukedom and quickly learns he is in way over his head. Fighting war is one thing but fighting the English aristocratic society is a whole other ball of wax. Throw in threats to his life and one sexy woman and you have one very intriguing, exciting storyline. Maggie and Connor will worm their way into your heart as they follow work together to find out who’s out to kill Connor and why.

If you like historical romances with all the magic of the ton, with excitement and deceptions at every turn and characters that you can’t help but root for, then I HIGHLY recommend reading Duke of Storm. You absolutely will not regret it! A fantastic 5 star read.

4.5 Stars The
Duke of Storm could have easily been a 5 star review, but Ms. Gaelen Foley has a way of messing up the very end of her stories. If was NOT NECESSARY to have the villain Physically Abuse the Heroine Lady Margaret/Maggie Winthrope. We were at the very end of an Outstanding Story. Very Well Written so Why it was necessary? The villain Capt. Seth Darrow had already killed the last 3 Duke's of Amberley and had sexually abused what appears to be a young Scullery Maid with mental impairments. That should have been enough violence for an Historical Romance.

With that said Connor Forbes the new Duke of Ameberley and Lady Maggie Wintrope are and excellent couple. I could find not fault with either of them. The storyline has layers of depth and creativity. The character development and back story of all the character are really good. The romance is mildly sensual. Not overly done. This was a Really Good Story!! I am just sick of Violence to women. Authors need to pay more attention to the world we live in today and the violence being perpetrated against females.

I loved this book: The reluctant duke, the beleaguered heroine and the mysterious antagonist... Major Connor Forbes, a veteran of the Napoleonic war and the last of his line, meets Lady Margaret Winthorp, a kind heroine desperate to marry to get out of under her sister's control, and sparks fly

Connor and Maggie are made for each other and notice it early on, thankfully. Their romance really is written well and I couldn't get enough of it. If you've read the other books in the series, you'll be pleased to know that you'll see all our old friends again.

The style is flowing and reading the text is so fluid that you'll have read more chapters than you eventually planned to, which has lead to some late nights when I couldn't put the book down, also because you just want to read on and find out what happens next. That's why I can't wait for the fourth installment!!!

I recieved a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

5 STARS, HISTORICAL REGENCY ROMANCE DRAMA MYSTERY

This is an awesome storyline that grabs you as a reader & hangs on right up until the last line of the work. Handsome sexy & Irish with that military way of command describes the Duke of Storm perfectly.

As soon as he steps off the boat in London somebody tries to kill him and he only has that to go on. However, on the good side he notices a Lady who has been staring at him & he likes what she looks like, also; so that happened at the club weekly dance he had attended.

Disaster, was how the Duke thinking the Club Dance went as he had been accused of killing the former Duke, & Irish remarks were made. Then, the beautiful Lady Margaret, presented herself to his house & he knew then life wasn't going to be all bad.

Great characters, some new with some from other books of the Series. Love the characters of Moonlight Square, some good, some crazy, and always amusing

Unexpected Love

Lady Margaret Winthrop lost the only home she ever knew when her father died. She moved in with her sister Delia and her husband Edward. Her sister did nothing but tear her down and destroyed any relationship she made. She wanted to get married to leave her sister home.

Connor Forbes just became the fourth Duke of Amberley, he just got off the ship from Ireland. While walking to his new home he was attacked, just passed it off as foot pad. Some of his army buddies came to stay with him. Well having twelfth night his friend food was poison, that was meant for him.

Connor goes out to his first dance at the club. While walking around the room he noticed this lady looking at him. Bryce spots the Duke of Amberley, and verbally excuse his of killing Richard the prior duke. He challenge him to a duel. Margaret sneaks over to the Duke house to get him not to kill him.

Come along see how this love story work out.

Once again, Ms Foley has drawn me back into the regency era and more specifically, to Moonlight Square, the setting for and title of her current series. I love when the storyline is mixed with suspense and I was thrilled that this element was present right from the outset. The combination of historical romance and dangerous mysteries to be solved keeps my interest much more than stories which rely on romance alone.

While the heroine Maggie was the strong female character I have come to expect from this author, Connor was a surprising hero. I loved that he was Irish and Ms Foley expertly brought this new Duke into the unfamiliar world of fashionable London. Great storyline as always and enjoyed the epilogue which tied everything together beautifully. Received ARC in exchange for honest review.

3/5 ⭐

It was better than the first one, but it couldn't overcome the second one.
There was romance, a sexy Irish duke, an assassin, a mystery and especially: action (Something I appreciate. I like the combination of romance and adventures!)

The duke was so sassy! Not even in his crazy dreams, he imagined he would become a duke, but there he goes, inheriting the dukedom, a "cursed" dukedom with dangerous enemies. As soon as Connor put his feet in London, someone attempted to kill him (hopefully He's a good fighter and soldier, so he's practically invincible).
Our heroine, Maggie, was a lovely girl! But, sometimes she was too nice for her own good. Sometimes that frustrated me! However, I liked her a lot!

The story was entertaining, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book!

Oh my God this Moonlight series latest book is Foley's  earlier series.    The intrigue is back, the sexiness  is back  (although not as much as her previous series)  and the dialogue between the characters, it's just so full of wit.

I was excited to read this book, and I didn't want to put it down.  It was so fun.    The storyline was a bit more unique, than usially found in this genre.  The characters were so full of life, very interesting,  great dialog, and it  ended with a satisfying closure.

While not as steamy as past series,  this book has a  couple sex scenes, which are  a bit more heated than has bern recently seen in the previous books of the Monnlight series.

Please note I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Someone is trying to kill Connor the Duke of Amberly. it takes repeated encounters to get to the bottom of this. There were twists I didn't expect, like the powerful Duke not being able to finish off an assailant in a fight with someone he had previously tangled with. And his posse of former soldiers were of little help, I wonder why the author included so much detail on them. The heroine Lady Maggie was likeable enough but sometimes an altruistic pain in the arse. Also, it seemed out of character her her to accept verbal abuse and humiliation in front of others. I have mixed feelings on this book, but was glad to see characters from previous Moonlight Square books make appearances such the Netherford and Rivendale families.

Duke of Storms is a great read ! Conner the forth Duke of Amberley has someone trying to kill him , his three male relatives have all died within the last 18 months , making him quite unexpectedly the forth Duke of Amberley . Enter Miss Margaret Winthop late at night to request he call off the duel with her arrogant Beau . Lady Margaret is desperate to escape her sisters home , she lives with her older sister and her husband . Hence the arrogant bBeau , she is desperate.... Her sister verbally abuses her and puts her down every day. I thought the beginning a little slow but then it takes off and a great mystery and adventure and romance turns this into a lush read
