What do a firefighter, a Fire Fae, and a husky shifter have in common? They all want a bite of Candela’s cupcake… Hi! I’m Candela and I own the best cupcake shop in Silver Springs—before my reputation got ruined, anyway. Lately all of my cupcakes have been coming out burnt, my smoke detectors are on the fritz, and my husky companion named Jasper won’t stop barking at customers. When I thought it couldn’t get any worse, my favorite Christmas candle sets my shop on fire!
With no choice but to close up for the day, I decided to release some stress at Silver Spring’s skating rink. You’d think that would chill me out—wrong! Apparently I’m a magnet for trouble because I’ve been hit by a mate spell and now I’m trapped between three guys who all want a taste.
Shane—the firefighter who wants to start my fire instead of quench it.
Jasper—my husky who turns out to be a shifter… he took showers with me, the pervert!
Lance—a sexy-as-sin Fire Fae who said his brother Titus sent him to my world to recover fire magic that didn’t belong to me and now it's running rampant in Silver Springs. That sounds about right.
Send help, because these guys are going to burn me to a crisp!
Did you notice that my cover seems a little... different? You can thank the North Pole's Winter Magic for that! Who knows what it's going to do next? Silver Springs has never seen anything like this...
Candela is a standalone paranormal comedy romance with a mystery to solve and a guest appearance of a delicious Fire Fae from the Elemental Fae universe—Titus’s brother! This story is part of the Silver Springs shared universe and can be read in any order.

3.3 stars. This was cute and quirky, but it needs another round of editing, I think. There were quite a few spelling/grammar mistakes, and the wording of some things were just off.
The relationships weren’t fully flushed out, which considering it was a full length book, I was fully expecting them to be. The sex was disappointing, not only because it was sort of rushed and a little too vague to really picture what was happening, but also because we only got individual time with one of them and only oral with another while the last one lost his virginity…it just wasn’t thought out very well, in my opinion.
Then the plot. It was sort of messy and jumbled and then solved really quickly and easily with basically zero fanfare or fallout.
The concept and the characters were cute and all, but it could definitely use a round of intense editing.
“She consumed my thoughts ... like a fire I can’t put out.”
I’ve been dying for this read because I knew it would have at least some crossover with the Elemental Fae realm—a world I am shamelessly addicted to. As Candela lives in Silver Springs, this is predominantly where this book is set and it seems like a fun world.
Candela is a great character, likable and real. Thorn really nailed the ‘small town / community / family’ feel with this town and left me wanting more of it—for a world I previously wasn’t particularly interested in, this is impressive.
Thorn manages to have many of the other books’ main characters cross Candela’s path, and in those tiny scenes, I felt like I wanted more of some of them. Definitely a brilliant tactic that wasn’t lost on me … but still, I'm off to see about one-clicking some of them. (Fortunately, in this world, the books are all named after the characters themselves so I’ll have no trouble finding them. Well played, Silver Springs authors.)
Fans of the Elemental Fae World should enjoy this installment and may also find themselves even more hyped up for Artica’s book, which is coming later this year. If you’re like me and crave an excuse to dive back in, you’ll find Candela a satisfactory taste. If you’re new to any of it (either world), you’ll still enjoy it. Candela’s men are all smoking hot for different reasons and there’s lots of humor and wit throughout.
Format notes:
I read 50% on the ebook, and listened to the audiobook for the rest and the bonus epilogue, Cupcakes and Coffee. It’s very well narrated, 5-star performance, while the ebook is beautifully formatted.
Candela is a human she thinks but can't explain why she is immune to the magic that keeps humans from knowing about supernatural. When the rash of fires breaks out in her store she is suspect number one. With the help of her mates she needs to figure out who is causing all this trouble before she is put in jail permanently.
The cover to this one felt a bit more shiny than the rest of the series and then I realized it is different. In a way the story is different. Candela is a human. It is Silver springs and it fits in nicely with the series. It was for the springs crew that I gave the book 3 stars instead of 2 I felt. The blurb gives Jasper away and that was about the only mystery.
One of the guys Lance is Titus's brother from Elemental Fae Academy and whilst it does say the book can be read as a stand-alone, it does go on about Claire and her five guys. Then there is Artica and she is one of the reasons I found the story annoying. She pops up, follows Lance nearly everywhere and cock blocks. It felt like she was there to add some magic because Candela didn't have any.
Candela is sweet and human, but the ward spell doesn't work and she knows the real Silver springs. Its interesting how she sees things, but it was more interesting to see how the ward worked on humans and how the supernatural treated them. It was a little unfair and added to the annoyance. I liked how Candela fooled everyone into thinking she couldn't see. But when the mating spell kicks in she knows it must be because it happened to everyone else. At this point in the series it feels like common knowledge.
Three mates. Two that feel they don't deserve her and one human who is happy to have her. Out of the three of them Shane stood out the most and I did like how he threatened the troll and how he was actively trying to find the truth to protect his mate, also how accepting he was of the truth.
A couple of three week time skips and its the re-opening and the ending, so of course now that the Shane and Candela are in the know, they are no longer dumb humans and everyone wanted to be their friends. It did feel like an ending to a series, or at least the halfway point. All of the already mated groups were shown as what felt like a last time recap and the remaining characters were introduced. I'm looking forward to Misty's story.

Things are Hotting up in Silver Springs as fires keep appearing everywhere after the first one at Candela's Cupcake Shop. Candela has always thought herself Human but one able to see things in the supernatural world and then moves to silver springs - this in itself tells us that she isnt human as no human can see anything supernatural in SS. Full of action, heat and some amusing moments this is a great entertaining read. I love this take on the Silver Springs world by a new author to the group and hope that we see much more of Jen and Candela as i loved this installment.
Damn, when the new season started 15 weeks sounded like an awfully long time, but now there are already 11 books out! I will be really sad when it's over and when there will be no new book every week. I said it more often, but I happily repeat it, this series is like a breeze of fresh air, like a shining sun and like some very welcome calm during the hard times we're all facing now. I've never been more thankful for ARCs in my entire life.
And I really loved Candela's story! Not every book in the Silver Springs series is plot-heavy, apart from the romance of course, and although the plot in this book isn't the most prominent thing either, the story is thrilling from the very start. We get to experience one of the weird fires going on in Silver Springs, with a lot of action and a lot of danger, and from then there's only one question I wanted answered: What are these fires and who creates them and why?
While our characters get to know each other, because of course there is a mate bond connecting them and of course they have issues focussing on anything else, we also get to meet a lot of familiar characters. All those books can be read as a standalone, but with all the cameos and interactions I really think this book is much more enjoyable of you're familiar with all those characters. Especially because all those cameos never feel forced. They're natural and loads of fun!
And not just the cameos are fun. The characters we meet in this stories are too! I was quite excited that finally we met a few more humans living in Silver Springs. Nothing is as amazing as humans discovering magic and the hidden world of shifters, vampires and other creatures. I also really loved Lance, the Fire-Fae in this story and I'll certainly read his brother's series to get the other side of his story. And of course there's Jasper. I would certainly not be against finding my own Jasper.
I can't wait to read the next book, and yet I will dread reading it too, because it will bring me one book closer to the last one of the season.
This is a great addition to the silver springs universe. I loved the characters they were adorable I did get confused a bit with some parts as the characters from some of jr thorns books were mentioned but I haven’t read them so it was a little hard to follow all in all a fantastic read
Fires are being set off and our girl is being blamed. Not as much chaos as I would have expected in such a setup but the sweetness level surpasses Candella's cupcakes. I really enjoyed the book and might look into more of the author's books outside of SS because I am told this has a spin from her other series
Pretty fun for a shorter book. I love that there was the tension of a fire fae and a firefighter as mates 😂. Unless you read the extra epilogue though, there isn’t much “reverse harem” spice, if you know what I mean 😏😒…
Candela is a human (maybe?) who is able to see through the glamour in Silver Springs. Once she's accused of arson, it's up to her and her three mates who is trying to frame her.
As usual, Candela has the same style as the other books in the Silver Springs series, and the author did a really great job in tying up all the loose ends and answering all of the questions.
Candela moves to Silver Springs because she sees things most humans cannot. She was hoping to find answers here, what she wasn't expecting was to get blamed for unexpected fires starting all over town. Or for the mysterious mate bond to attach to her... because she's just a human, right?! I absolutely loved this story, it's cute, funny and a definite page turner that you won't want to put down. So settle in with a cupcake and enjoy yourself.
This book, wow. It grabbed me from the very first word and kept me interested all the way till the end. The characters are so real that you feel as though you know them and no matter what you want o be there for them and to help them succeed no matter what they need to do to get there. It moves along at a pace making for an awesome and smooth read. The story grabs you and you cant put it down until you read the end. This book is a must read.
I've always loved whatever J.R. Thorn writes. She could probably write about anything and I'd still read it and enjoy it haha Candela was something a little different from her normal RH. Most of hers have dark themes but Candela was hilarious! Her mates were adorable and very likable! Mysterious fires have been going around in Silver Springs, can Candela and her mates solve the mystery of the fires before the whole town burns down? 🤷♀️

4.5 rounded up because I can always count on Silver Springs for a cute and sweet paranormal romcom break! This was a little shorter than some of my favorites but I still very much enjoyed the supernaturally-diverse characters, the whodunnit vibes, the humor, steamy scenes (admittedly way too vague & mild for me), and HEA.
Some of the cameos make me wish I had more of them were made into audiobooks because I love listening to these stories. 🥺 The narration was great, Vanessa Moyen has the perfect narration style for the tone of the story.
Spoilers beyond this point
. . .
Editing to add thoughts about the the bonus smexy epilogue: it was a nice addition considering the actual story itself was honestly kinda lacking in the steamy department; you don’t get spicy moments with all of her mates one on one. Buuut I don’t know how to feel about the fact that there was no MM in the OG story but was in the bonus. I know that not all authors are comfortable with writing explicit details (especially regarding MM interactions) but this was about as vague as you could make it without it being closed doors. There was allusion to Lance taking Shane’s @n@l virginity but you literally get zero details, you could imagine him just frotting against him from behind. I feel like if she wasn’t going to commit to the connection she should’ve left it out. They could’ve had group activities again without it.
✨✨ONE TUMULTUOUS ROLLERCOASTER✨✨ Hatching hellions! Thorn worked her impressive magic once more with this incredibly tantalizing, rock-my-world debacle, weaving a cocoon so intricately and precise, luring you deeper into this tangled web, bringing the heat and busting down walls, propelling this jewel to staggering heights. Sparks ignite as riveting drama, gripping intrigue, underlying currents, electrifying suspense and intense situations ensue, blurred boundaries and sketchy lines solidify as mayhem and shenanigans, observing the separate struggles and thrilling triumphs, attentive to the dangerous twists and stunning turns unfolding, bursting this baby to life brilliantly. The attraction and chemistry ignites with such intoxicating intensity and ardor, exploding with boundless emotions and infinite affection, drawing our characters closer, binding them to one another brilliantly. The characters are complex, genuine and realistic with traits and qualities that balance and blend, with amazing depth and diversity and enough spice to add an extra kick to the mix. Throw in 100% on point realism, raising the stakes with such graphic scenarios that are so colorfully descriptive and vividly detailed its like you're living it with them instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Remarkable job Thorn, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.
This could possibly be one of my favourite Silver skates stories. Candela has heard rumors that people suspect her of being responsible for a number of fires in the area as they only started when she moved to town and then her own shop is totally destroyed in one of these fires! While waiting for the inspection to determine whether the fire is accidental or not she ice skates with a fireman who is looking after her ..... The skates strike again! The thing I liked about this book was that there was a mystery to solve.... who was responsible for the fires? And why did her friend Peggy just disappear without a word? And why Do the town wards not work on candela? She is human so she shouldn't be able to see or hear any of the magic around Silver Springs! The author did an amazing job bringing these characters to life, and also in intergrating them into the Silver Springs world. After the story ended I was happy to see that in the previews of other books Artica is getting her own story although it wont be in the Silver Springs universe.I quite liked her character so that is also a book I will be looking out for. This is the first book by this author I have read and was impressed..... recommend
I really liked this book, I loved Candela and her mates, they make a great group and I think they´re perfect for each other. I have to admit that I was a little confused when I started reading this story, the book has mystery but I had more questions than the ones the book was answering me and I got frustrated cause I had my assumptions but I didn´t know if they where true so I had to keep reading until I got them, so that´s a good thing cause it lets you wanting more and wanting to get all the answers, so you´re definitely going to want to finish it. You can tell by this that I don´t normally read mystery books. I like that Candela is human but knows about Paranormal people because I like when humans start learning about all the different species and the reactions they have. I love the special cover! I think it´s so pretty, I would love to have all the books in the series with similar covers. I think the guys are really sweet and perfect for Candela, my favorite is Shane, I love that he´s also a human and had a feeling something wasn´t normal about Silver Springs, I think I would be like him if I had to live there. And, omg, the bonus scene! Please read it, it´s so perfect and steamy.
A sweet little detour in the Elemental Academy universe of characters.
This story is part of the Silver Skates series of books. Each book is written by a different author and they all take place in town that is filled with supernaturals. This particular book is also related to the Elemental Fae Academy universe of characters, specifically Titus, who we met in EFA and he is mated to the FMC Claire. In this book, his brother Lance is sent to find out what is going on with rogue fae fire in this sleepy little town. So there are some references to characters from EFA.
While a bit longer than novella length, this was still a pretty quick read. There is no deep storyline here, but that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it. I just really enjoyed Elemental Fae Academy and Midnight Fae Academy so much, I wanted to see what was up with Titus’ brother. Character development was good enough to get a feel for the supernatural men in Candela’s harem; Lance and Jasper. However the third man here is human, which is a departure from normal PNR storylines.
It’s very low on steam, so if that’s your jam, you may want to skip this one. But if you’re looking for a lighthearted paranormal romance that borders on sickening sweet, you’ll like this one.
Another fantastic addition to the Silver Skates series. Though I'm a little sad that the more of these I read, the closer I am getting to the end of this wonderfully humourous collection. Candela as far as she knows is human, there is nothing special about her apart from the fact that the Silver Springs wards to make her forget anything to do with the supernatural doesn't work.
Living with her husky, Jasper, she owns and works in "the best cupcake shop in Silver Springs". But mysterious fires have been popping up all over town, and when her friend Peggy visits her, Candela's shop becomes a target.
After the fire, she goes skating, and well we all know how that one goes. The mating bonds snap into place and it's pretty much game over for Candela.
Her mates are all very different from each other, and I absolutely loved Jasper. He's been in his shifter form for five years, so when he takes on his human form he has lots of dog-type traits which are adorable. Her other two mates, Lance and Shane are pretty much opposites. Lance is a fire fae, and Shane is a human firefighter so their interactions are always funny.
So, if you've been following the Silver Springs books, you know the town goes to great lengths to make sure that the humans remain unaware of the supernatural aspects of town. Ever wonder what happens when the ward doesn't work as it should?
Candela is human, but she sees things round town that she knows she shouldn't. And when she goes skating, things only get weirder!
I loved the descriptions from Shane, her human mate's perspective, about how the ward felt, as well as Candela's pretence that it was working. Her other 2 mates are a fire fae, who's investigating the magically caused fires round town, and a very protective shifter.
I really loved this book, and although I don't normally read a lot of academy RH, I think I'm going to have to go back and check out the author's Elemental Fae Academy: The Complete Trilogy as well.
Candela is a nice mix between “romance” (smut) and a coherent plot. It’s short and sweet and doesn’t overstay its welcum.
While it’s book 11 in the series and I haven’t read (or listened) to any of the others, I never had trouble following along. It’s obvious that you’re reading part of a larger story, but it doesn’t hinder the one that this book is trying to tell.
Overall the narrators did an excellent job. It’s always a treat when a book uses a different narrator for each character. The only issue with the narration I had was the narrator who kept mispronouncing Caramel. Carmel is a mountain, not a sweet. It’s annoying as hell that this mispronunciation hasn’t been stomped out yet.

What do you do when you can see things that other people can’t? You move to Silver Springs of course. Candela Sparks is human, but she can see supernatural stuff. It’s exhausting to ignore the naked shifters, witches casting spells, and other antics the supernatural residents of Silver Springs get up to, but Candela is managing. With her loyal husky, Jasper, by her side Candela has created a popular cupcake joint and is enjoying some great business. Until fires start breaking out and no one can answer the question of how.
Determined clear her name from the rumor mill, Candela is caught off guard as events out-pace her and she finds herself working with muscle-bound fire fighter and a quick tempered Fire Fae. Can Candela solve the mystery of the fires and figure out how she can see the supernatural?
J.R. Thorn brings an action-packed adventure to the world of Silver Springs. Her first trip to town did not disappoint and will hopefully lead to more adventures.
So let's meet Candela from Silver Springs. She is a human but she seems to remember some weird things that are going on. She has this husky named Jasper that seems to understand her. She runs her own bakery and we find out that she is a christmas baby. She believes in magic! However there are some strange things going on. Which in a way kind of confused me for a bit but was soon cleared. In the midst of all the strange things going on she meets Shane and Lance when they try to help her. Only they can't figure out what is causes all the mishaps. So to just take a breather she goes skating and now she feels more. Lance knows what that feeling is and Shane senses it too. What about Jasper? That was a surprise too. So will they figure out who the culprit is that is causing all the chaos. I can say that you will see them get a happy ending.
Book 11 in the series by J.R Thorn . It’s a great paced listen. They listen will grab you from the beginning and you won’t be able to put it down . The story takes place in a town called Silver Springs, Heroine is Candela . It’s not like most JR books , in this one she human , she has the best cupcake bakery in Silver Springs. There are paranormals , a fae , a shifter and a human firefighter who not only want a cupcake but also want Candela for there own . Candela knows all about paranormals , it doesn’t schock her or the town. The human who wants her is Shane and he is the firefighter. She doesn’t know what came over them all to want to join . Grab it and see you’ll love it
I love the narrators Vanessa Moyan and Zackery Johnson . They both brought the characters to life , you were able to tell who is who by their tone
Candela is suffering from rumors connected to the fires going around town. While also navigating the supernatural beings around town. A fire goes off in her shop and she is a suspect for the arsons. During this she feels a connection to Shane, the hot firefighter and Lance, the hothead fire Fae. While this happens she discovers that Jasper, her husky is actually a shifter and she’s his mate.
Overall the book gave me mixed feelings. Like the fantasy ideas were really interesting and the characters were likable. The pace of the story though was too rushed. It made it hard to enjoy because of how fast the characters got together. The relationship were not fully connected, I felt like I was given the bare minimum of information on the characters. Also the story had moments that it got disorganized and confusing. So it was good but it could’ve been better :/

Candela is a human living in silver springs and running a cupcake shop. Although she is human she knows that there is something else to silver springs and is slightly immune to the ward that protects the supes.
Fires are appearing all over silver springs and after a dire at her shop Candela is under suspicion of being the arsonist after a trip to the ice rink and wearing the skates she is matched to the human fire fighter who gas had a secret crush on her for a while a fire fae who is tracking the fires and her husky candela is arrested for the arson and thrown in jail.
Can candela and her mates come together and prove her innocence before she is charged ?
Candela is a great addition to the silver springs universe and is a great little read.
“The Silver Springs world is absolutely fantastic. I’ve read and listen to different stories and each one is unique and a great addition to the world. Candela wasn’t the exception! The moment I read the blurb knew it was going to be an epic journey and I wasn’t wrong though listening it rather than reading was even more special. Bonus point for the dual narration! Vanessa and Zachary did an outstanding job portraying each one of the characters feelings, emotions and their connection. It was funny and guaranteed of ste*my moments *wink wink*. Something important to is that Candela wasn’t just about sm*t but it had ended a great plot with mystery and detective vibes!”
*** Review based on the audiobook narrated by Vanessa Moyen and Zachary Johnson ***
It followed the lovely Candela and how she finds her three hunky mates whilst trying to prove her innocence when a series of random fires start all over town.
We follow Candela as she explores her three mates, Lance, Jasper and Shane. All three so different but she perfect for her and she unknowingly saved all three of them.
It’s a lovely stand alone story that I really enjoyed and can’t wait to read the others books that go along side it.
Definitely worth the read especially if you want to experience a wolf shifter, a fire fae and a fireman.
