Audrey Knox has been America’s Sweetheart since she appeared in her first film at sixteen. Never one for a scandal, she’s lived a predictable and well-manicured life. With each movie more successful than the last, she has the world at her fingertips. An undeniable connection with bad girl superstar Harlow Thorne was never in her plan.
Harlow Thorne left her childhood trailer park with nothing but her guitar and twin brother. Those times are nothing but a distant memory now, and she’s consistently at the top of the pop music world. She has managed to keep her mother in her rearview mirror through all her success, but that all changes when her mother reappears with a family secret.
Together these two could conquer the world―but in a town where careers are made and broken by the press, the secrets and lies may be too much to overcome.
Jackie D was born and raised in the San Francisco, east bay area of California. She lives with her wife, their son, and their many furry companions. She earned a bachelor's degree in recreation administration and a dual master's degree in management and public administration. She is a Navy veteran and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a flight deck director, onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.
She spends her free time with her wife, friends, family, and their incredibly needy dogs. She enjoys playing golf but is resigned to the fact she would equally enjoy any sport where drinking beer is encouraged during gameplay. Her first book, Infiltration, was a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award. Her fourth book, Lucy's Chance, won a Goldie in 2018.
Jackie is also the co-host of the Podcast, The Weekly Wine Down - which can be found on iTunes, Stitcher, or Podbean.
I enjoyed this book more than some of the other early readers did. It was what I needed at the moment – a light story that wasn’t too light so it still held my interest. And it’s also the celebrities trope - that's one of my favourites.
I think Jackie D did everything right with this one to make it feel good. Audrey is an actress and Harlow is a musician and both of them are equally famous. Audrey's still healing from a nasty breakup when Harlow charms her way into a dinner with her and their relationship starts from there. It happens fast but somehow still feels organic because they were already fans of each other to begin with. Harlow is a pleasant surprise because she lives up to neither her bad girl reputation nor her inexperience to commitment. The chemistry they share is great and while both have celebrity reputations to upkeep, neither are too tied up in knots about keeping their relationship under wraps.
This is one of those times when I didn’t mind the author tanking the relationship at 70% - 80% because that is when we learn a whole lot more about Harlow than before. And not only did it give the story a dramatic boost, Audrey shines with loyalty and by proving to have a mind of her own.
The story has a really pleasant side character too. That's Kylie, Audrey's friend and assistant whom I really like. She's supportive and plays a monumental role in bringing the MCs together.
This story feels really good. The characters are so lovable, and I really enjoyed this.

This book made for an easy casual read on a busy day. It’s short simple and cute.
Unfortunately that’s also the reason for my 1.5 star down rate. The book was too simple.
Aubrey is an actor and Harlow is a singer. When they meet there’s an instant chemistry. Later in the book Casper’s brother makes some mistakes than ultimately relate to conflict in the main relationship
Admittedly Aubrey and Harlow do have undeniable represented chemistry but there wasn’t any build up or anything special. Even their conflict was boring and the reconciliation was blueprinted by the classic cliche best friend interference and serenade trope. The reconciliation was a bit half assed
In the beginning of the book we have small appearances from Aubrey’s ex which could’ve been a source of entertainment in this book but it seemed as though the author forgot they existed. Which was a bit weird since she was the Kickstarter.
Also something that I realized seconds after finishing the book was- it’s not funny. There’s no humor in this book. Not a single thing that struck me as humor. Regardless of subjectivity.
Casper’s ending also left me annoyed. How could someone who caused so much trouble get a good job in a field he was previously shown to be untrustworthy in?
Seems like the author wrote an unrealistic fairytale to be honest. Aubrey and Harlows achievements at their age and their ending was totally far fetched- not that I’m opposed to walking the line of realism, this is a work of fiction after all. But in this book it felt a bit overdone.
Now this book can be described as a light read and if that’s what you want, a sweet, easy, cliche light read. Then I do recommend.
But if you’re looking for something with entertainment, depth and characters you relate to and can grow to love. Then no I do not recommend.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for the arc in return for a honest review.
Jackie D. has really impressed me lately with the versatility of her writing. She had chills running down my spine with her creation of a stalking serial killer in Swift Vengeance (with Jean Copeland and Erin Zak). Now she has amazed me with two beautiful (inside and out) characters in her current romance novel VIP.
VIP is a contemporary romance about two women who are both A-listers in their chosen fields. Audrey Knox is at the pinnacle of her career as a movie actress. Harlow Thorne is a star at the top of the pop music world. Both women live with the good and the bad that comes with their success. When the two meet, Audrey has just come out of a relationship that went bad rather publicly. Harlow has done her best to avoid any type of lasting romantic relationship. That doesn’t stop the attraction that builds as the two get to know one another. There is a chance for a beautiful romance, but there is an equal chance for their very public lives to interfere and derail everything.
These characters are very well-developed and easy to connect with. I didn’t realize it at first, but this is sort of an opposites attract trope. You wouldn’t think so since both mains are celebrities at the top of their fields, but this is about their backgrounds and history. It is also the basis for some of the conflict in the tale. The hidden trope and the conflict are well written by the author. The story is well paced and easy to read. I didn’t want to put the book down until the end. I also really loved the epilogue which gives the reader a glimpse into the future for these two. This is a great summer vacation romance or lazy weekend read. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and will be looking for more from this author.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for an honest review.
3.5⭐️ – Action movies superstar Audrey Knox is barely over a very public breakup when she meets Harlow Thorne, musician extraordinaire. Despite her wariness about getting involved with anyone too quickly, she can’t resist Harlow and the feeling is very obviously mutual. Both sense very early on that what’s going on between them is special. When life gets in the way, they need to decide whether they’re strong enough to fight for their new yet already precious relationship.
VIP is a sweet feel-good romance. Falling in love with Audrey is very easy and Harlow is worth all the efforts. As soon as they meet, the chemistry is off the charts. The best part of VIP is the depiction of those first moments, when the attraction is so strong and so wonderful you’re not sure what’s happening. I’m always surprised when a character asks the other MC to be their girlfriend, even though I’ve been told people really do it. It made me smile that Harlow would be surprised too. It was sweet and funny.
There are a few very moving scenes, both between the MCs and with other characters. One, in particular, brought tears to my eyes, when Harlow meets a young fan named Monica. Casper, Harlow’s twin brother, is an interesting secondary character with an unexpected arc. I also love Kylie, Audrey’s best friend and assistant, and Audrey’s mother.
There’s some head-hopping at times, and I wasn’t always sure who was feeling what. But overall, it was a nice read. If you’re looking for a feel-good novel to read on the beach, VIP will do nicely.
I read some even earlier reviews than my own before I started with this one, I'm not sure if they all do the book justice. I think if you go in expecting a light summer read, something perfect for a day at the beach, you'll be happy with this one. I for one should have kept this one for later this week when I am making my way to the beach for a couple of days ;)
Harlow and Audrey are both big stars, Harlow is a musician and Audrey an actress. Harlow had a rough childhood and her twin brother has always been there to support her. They've made a name for themselves together. Audrey was discovered by sheer luck and has basically been lucky ever since, aside from some annoying girlfriends she has had it pretty good. Harlow weasels her way into a dinner invite at Audrey's and that's where their story begins. It's all very light and easy. That's until we touch on Harlow's past and some things that follow her to the present, most of it is swept under the rug, not mentioned or purposely avoided. The more emotional part of the book starts around the 70% mark and really kicks off around the 80% mark, that's where I think the book is at its best.
I could understand this working as a fun and easy beach read, but especially from the 80% mark onwards the book and characters have some depth and show development, that is nicely done, it made me sad to not have more of that in the book. For me it now sort of feels like the author was bouncing around on ideas and couldn't settle on either the easy, light beach read without depth, or the more emotional story. I think it would have worked better if one was chosen. As mentioned, I don't mind the depth of the story, how the depth came to be was just annoying (and late, of course), but it feels like it doesn't entirely fit with the light reading. Maybe if I did read this while lounging around on a sunny beach I would feel different, but knowing myself I probably would still find issue with the sudden departure from the light and easy. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it for what it was, just don't expect too much from it. Harlow and Audrey are nice characters, but I just feel like their strengths really start to shine when all the drama happens, and that's always a bit of a shame. So much of the book is then wasted on nothing of substance, but it's perfect for a fun summer read. I desperately need half stars! 3.5 stars

Audrey, a star of the big screen finds fate crossing her path with rougher around the edges, bad girl come singer Harlow. With an undeniable connection between them, both their lives are turned upside down as they navigate the difficulties of falling for one another while in the public eye as decisions made have the potential to make or break their success.
I loved this celebrity based romance because while it had glitz, glamour and all the drama that comes with a life in the spot light, the characters were so down to earth. Their fears, emotions, hopes and dreams were all very real and able to be threatened by the publicity of their every move, as much as their careers were at stake. The fact that they were two very different types of celebrity only helped cement the realistic connection to remind you that even people in the spotlight are human and you can relate to what they experience when it comes their personal lives.
Harlow’s past provides an interesting catalyst to add excitement and uncertainty into the story. The surprises that lay in store, littered throughout Harlow and Audrey’s story had me gripped and I was desperate to see whether it was going to make or break their blossoming relationship. I hadn’t expected the turn in the story but it fitted well and added that good element of surprise for a romance to make it just that extra bit exciting than just a sweet story.
This was the first story I read by Jackie D and I was really impressed so can’t wait to read more in future. If you are looking for that glamorous romance with a Hollywood vibe but a touch of reality and drama thrown in, you’ll really enjoy this!
I enjoyed this book a lot. Both main characters were very likable and had great chemistry. I had never read a book by Jackie D, but I will make sure to read more of her work. I thought I could predict everything that was going to happen in this story, but every single time I thought I knew what happened next, the author surprised me. No silly misunderstandings, no predictable clichés, it was very refreshing.
This book grabbed my attention from the first page and had me glued to my Kindle for hours. I highly recommend it.
Serious Sweetness Audrey is an out actress and lucky enough to be America’s sweetheart. She is a bada$$ action hero with killer good looks and even better skills. Shes a private person and a bit of a good girl, never causing a scandal, not like her secret crush Harlow…. Harlow grew up on the wrong side of the tracks but her musical talent and a ton of hard work has made her a star. Shes a not out lesbian who faces the world with her twin brother. When she meet her teen age, but still current crush, Audrey, the two are smitten and things are wonderful for the pair, at least for a little while. When her mother reappears and a secret is exposed she is left reeling. Can our sexy sheroes stand the confusion and chaos or are they doomed to be alone? Time will tell….
What a wonderful book! The story is so entertaining and endearing! I loved all the technical stuff that goes on behind the scenes in both women’s careers. It was fun to see and made me think about how much really goes into a concert tour. I adored watching these two lovely women fall in love with each other. They are dorky and a bit awkward but sweet and warm. I totally got the warm fuzzies more than once!! It was hard watching Harlow’s world fall apart but I admired her strength to rise above. They are a special couple and I loved going on their journey with them! This engaging book is the first one Ive read by the author but it will not be the last one!!! I cant wait to read another if they are this good!
Sweet love story develops steadily, realistically between two famous people.
Audrey, America's sweetheart, has her heart cruelly and publicly broken.
Harlow, a pop princess with legions of devoted fans, dosen't date publicly.
Their paths cross and the fairytale love story begins. Harlow and Audrey navigate the usual issues - taking their relationship public, meeting family and friends.
And then, Harlow's twin brother betrays her trust. Casper derails Harlow's personal and professional life. Secrets are revealed and Harlow has to cope with heart wrenching challenges as she never has before.
Will Harlow and Audrey find their way through the upheaval and chaos together or apart?
I haven’t read much by this author before, but after enjoying her novel Swift Vengeance, co-authored with Jean Copeland and Erin Zak, I decided to give this book a go. I’m happy I did as it was an enjoyable read.
Audrey Knox is one of the most famous actresses in America, well-esteemed among the public. On the other hand, Harlow Thorne, one of the most popular singers in the country, has a badass reputation and a hidden past. When Audrey and Harlow meet, there’s an undeniable attraction but Harlow’s past threatens to destroy their connection…
This was a very good opposites-attract, celebrity romance. For me, it felt a bit slow at the beginning but once the story started to develop, it reached a perfect pace. As a celebrity romance, VIP has the markings of the subgenre: fame, money, scandal… But what happily surprised me is the unexpected direction the novel took. I thought it was well-plotted and it added dramatic effect and angst to the story but keeping it realistic.
Both characters are very well fleshed out and the author got the chemistry right. I wasn’t expecting the number of sex scenes and how sizzling hot they are. But the story doesn’t stop there. This book has a perfect balance between romance, sex, drama and angst. Even a little bit of intrigue. It made the reading experience very entertaining. With the right narrator, this could make an excellent audiobook too.
If you are into celebrity romances with a bit of drama and angst at the side, then this one of for you. 4.5 stars.
‘VIP’ is my first novel by Jackie D and honestly I couldn’t put it down. The two central characters are hugely successful in their own right: Audrey Knox is an actress whose career and unblemished profile has been on the rise since she was sixteen. Harlow Thorne is at the top of the music charts but her ‘bad girl’ reputation is never far behind her in the public eye. Cue mutual attraction and intrigue for both of these strong women. I loved the way that both of these MCs slowly revealed themselves to one another, removing their star qualities from the surface and showing their vulnerabilities and fears. These women become so relatable and flawed that you cannot help but fall for them. Although I would consider this romance a light read, there are particular passages that really stayed with me; almost like a great pop song with the most beautiful, intense lyrics just there for the taking. The way that Harlow brings out an additional confidence in Audrey is balanced by the way Audrey breaks down the armor Harlow has built around herself. I really enjoyed the style in which Jackie D writes and the notable lack of cliches just made this an instant favorite of mine. I cannot wait to read more from this author!
With no regret, I gave it a full five stars, if it’s not for the rich language, for the smart characters and the lite flirting through that pleasant love story.
This is the kind of escapism read I want for a summer day. Audrey Knox is the most successful action film actress in Hollywood. She has cultivated and enjoys her nice actress status since breaking into films at sixteen. Harlow Thorne is at the top of her pop musical career. Consistently up for Grammy's and selling out concerts. Two famous people at the top of their fields is a familiar trope. The fact that both hard are working, dependable, loyal and incredibly likable just adds to the enjoyment of the book.
Harlow has risen up from a rougher family life and that plays into the drama in the book. Her only constant is brother Casper. I really did like both characters. I particularly like how supportive they were of each other's emotions. Audrey is a standout in showing caring. I am fine with the non realistic nature of the pairing of these two and like their chemistry. The crisis moment is fairly short and brother Casper's redemption and career recovery is mildly unrealistic. I would have enjoyed a little humor or a comeuppance of Audrey's ex.
This is my second Jackie D novel both with high stars. And I will continue to look for her work. Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books, Inc. for an ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.
A feelgood celebrity romance between an actress, Audrey and a singer Harlow that will be a good pick for an entertaining vacation read if you ask me. Both main characters are likeable, there 's romance, a glimpse into the celebrity lifestyle, just a little bit of angst and all in all a book I enjoyed myself with. It has the standard themes: good girl / bad girl image, some hurdles along the way, the break up near the end and a happily ever after. But there's a reason why so many writers follow the same line, if it's done well it leads to a good book that many of us will pick up to use as a pleasant escape for everyday life. Jackie D's effort falls in that category in my opinion and I think this book will be a good fit for everyone who likes a well written romance, not too complicated and in a world not many of us get to move around in.

Every now and then, I enjoy reading about celebrities. The commercial success along with the benefits obtained as a result of the success is fun to read. Aubrey Knox, talented actress. Lives a scandal free well-manicured life with family and friends that love her. Harlow Thorne, talented rock star. Lives a life full of scandal and a brother that has been with her every step of the way. Harlow and Aubrey have noticed and appreciated each other from afar for a number of years. And when they get together, it is electric. In general a fairy tale of a read with some perfect stuff going on but hey, is that not one of the reasons we read, to take a moment and get away from it all. That is what this read did for me and in my opinion, that is a good thing.

I really did enjoy this Celebrity romance by Jackie D. I am a sucker for a well written romance involving celebrities. The blurb made me excited to read this one and it did not disappoint. The mains Audrey and Harlow are likable characters and you can like find something to relate to each one of them. The chemistry between them is sizzling which makes for a rather hot connection. I especially like the drama of the mother coming back into Harlow life and the twin brother trying to protect her from it. As you read this one you can tell that something isn't adding up with Harlow's brother but honestly what goes down I NEVER guessed. That for sure was a plus for me. I would love to listen to this one as an audio book. I can only recommend you read this one.
4.5 stars
This arc was provided by netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.
this is sweet story. I liked every character in it did not expect much from it, maybe that's why i liked it as much as I did. Not to say this was not well written, because it was. however, there's nothing out of the norm. its just pleasant read.
someone mentioned that the author could've played with the ex card more, and i do agree it would've been so much more had there been some type of drama.
Audrey been a actress since she was sixteen and she one of the successful actress in Hollywood. Harlow is a singer who is successful in her own right.
Audrey and Harlow meet and have instant chemistry but they are both cautious getting involved with each other. As they grow closer despite their busy schedule they found something in each other they didn’t know was missing.
I like this read the main characters were great didn’t like that Harlow brother Casper causing trouble then him getting redeem to quickly in my opinion I will have let him suffer the consequences.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
I started this last night, just wanting to read a couple of chapters before bed. and the next thing I knew, it was 2:30 am and my eyes were glued to each page. Jackie D wrote some of the most tangible characters I’ve ever encountered. All of our characters feel like real, genuine, relatable people and, in the end, you really can’t help but root all of them. It’s one hell of a talent. VIP made me laugh, it made me cry, and feel all the feels. This book was everything!
I really like Hollywood and famous people stories as a way of escaping reality, and in VIP we have an actress and a singer. We have a well-known formula here, but the plot works, and the characters are well developed. I will definitely read more of Jackie D’s work.
Honestly thought I posted this review on July 13th (aka release day) as I planned to, but since I now realized I couldn't find anywhere I guess I forgot to hit send or something so here we are. To the good people at Netgalley and also Bold Strokes Books, I appologize for the delay and thank you greatly for letting me read an ARC of this book fof an honest review.
As for the book itself, I'm not really sure how to describe it. Don't get me wrong, it was no doubt an enjoyable read and I liked both of the MCs in it, especially Audrey, but unfortunately this book just didn't catch my interest the way I wanted it to. That being said, I do recommend it to anyone interested in a good and nicely-paced, yet not revolutionary, wlw book and/or a romance book and will make sure to check out Jackie D's future work.
Harlow a musical performer who works hard has never had a serious relationship. She has had a crush on the talented actress Audrey Knox a long time. They soon have a chance meeting and are drawn to each other. Audrey has recently been hurt and is taking things slow. As they work their busy schedules they find time to spend together and know more about each other. Just as things are going well Harlow is hit with the lies and betrayal of her closest confidant and is thrown into turmoil she can't handle. This will cause her to push Audrey away and cause her a deep pain and anguish. Harlow must now try to work through her pain but also decide her feelings for Audrey. But is it too late for them ? I highly recommend this book.
Famous actresses and signers is one of my favourites tropes and this book didn’t disappoint.
The writer does a really good work showing how two different people become famous and how their backgrounds cannot be more different. Both main characters are really likeable and Audrey's the classic sweetheart, a little bit more flawed than usual as she struggles a bit with confidence, especially in her romantic relationships. Whilst Harlow is the deeper character with deeper issues and tougher past.
Great journey to find love and forgiveness.
This is my first book by this author and looking forward to read more from her.
This is going straight on my re-read shelf! It was everything I love in a book, it had glamour, and baggage, and lots and lots of feelings. The massive twist with Casper was a welcome jolt toward the end of the book and completely unexpected which added another layer to the already complex lives of the main characters! The scene with Monica brought an actual tear to my eye as well as the ending (obviously). Harlow and Audrey were such a cute couple. I still find it confusing when American authors refer to a Vagina as a “sex” or a “centre” but even that didn’t distract me from the sweet tender moments between the two characters in this book. I was completely captivated by the whole story. Also got major Taylor Swift vibes which made me happy.
I read this book in the grip of winter here in Australia and can say I never regretted not having the smell of the sea in my nostrils whilst reading. Not even once.
If you like or love celebrity romances this should definitely go on your TBR pile.
The two MC's are likable and the secondary characters are well developed with story ARCS of their own which makes this a fuller story to read.
Jackie D has taken on important themes around how far should individual choice be sacrificed for brand. The fragility of success. Talent vs marketing in the pursuit of success. The fickleness of public loyalty. Family loyalty vs individual boundaries. Power vs success. All tied up in a rollicking romance that provides the feels.
This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I really, really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would based off the blurb.
I thought the author did a great job adding a little extra to the typical Hollywood romance troupe. I thought the main characters had great depth and the dialogue between the two was well-written.
There was the typical romance conflict that usually annoys me, but in this book I thought it played out well. This was the right book to get me out of my current reading slump. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick, feel good, well written read.
Really good book. I loved the relationship between Harlow and Audrey it was very sweet and steamy. Harlow seemed like such a down to earth person even though she was portrayed as very famous in this story, and Audrey was such a great character as well. Both characters had a bit of drama and angst in there lives, especially Harlow who had to deal with family members that were not to honest or supportive. This actually moved this story along at an easy pace and the remaining characters were very good too. I loved the friends of each woman especially Audrey's friend Kylie. I can't wait for what this author writes next and would definitely recommend this to my friends and family members.
