Who said prison was going to stop me from getting what I wanted?
I thought breaking out of there was going to be the hardest thing I ever did. I should have known. Being the leader of The Black Widows is never that easy. Someone should have warned me that the woman I was about to kidnap was going to bring me to my knees.
She knows I’m coming for her, and this time, she won’t be slipping through my fingers.
I’m going to destroy her, and only then will I make her mine.

BLACK WIDOW is a 33K word dark, steamy romance. It is recommended for mature readers due to sexual content, dark themes, gang violence, and strong language.

Ugh. It was hard to read this. Such an abrupt change of pace. He goes from full throttle Oceania to full throttle Veronica. Okaaaaaaaay.

In the words of the Widows:

“What about Ocean? You spent two fucking years claiming that you were in love with her. You tried to talk her into marrying you, bro.”

(audiobook) To be honest, I hadn’t read or listened to the previous books in this series, so I was a bit nervous. I didn’t have to. Though I’m sure knowing what happened before is a real bonus, this novella can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Maybe not knowing Dominic’s backgroung is actually a plus. As I understand it, he had a passionate relationship with the main female character in the series, so I’d have been peeved if he suddenly was ‘always in love’ with another woman. As it is, I could totally buy that the love of his life was Roni all along.

Their love story is a bit a Romeo & Juliet type, with both of them part of rival gangs when they were young. Now, they’re out of the gangs–Dominic was in prison, and Veronica ran away a long time ago–but they still have enough connections to kill any idea of getting back together in her mind. That, and the fact that Dominic kidnapped her.

They’re very different. Roni separated herself from gang life early in her life, while Dominic thrives in violence and power trips. What I loved the most is that Dominic pulls her into the dark side, bit by bit. He helps her discovering who she really is. Hint: she isn’t the good girl she thought she was.

It’s short, so the feelings come quick and they don’t need much incentive. Veronica and Dominic’s past together–that isn’t detailed enough in my opinion–is reason enough for them to fall in love again. I missed the seduction part. It was quite hot though.

Gang life pulls them in again, but that isn’t even the most violent part. I won’t spoil anything though. Just know that it could be triggering.

Narration was good. There were emotions, a good pace, talented voices.

Quickie

- Series: Rejects paradise #4.5 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #dark romance #second chance romance #gangs #enemies to lovers #novella
- Triggers: violence, deaths, kidnapping, mention of rape
- Main couple: Veronica Russo & Dominic Garcia
- Hotness: 5/5
- Romance: 3/5
- + short and to the point
- – I’d have loved to have more background of the two of them together as teens

Nic, Nic, Nic.. I didn't know if it could be done you know a redemption for him. But Sheridan proved that he could be and find love also. Don't get me wrong I loved Nic even if he was a tough character plus I was suck on him and Ocean for a long time. This book definitely let's us see another side of him a more understanding of were his heads at. I'm so glad he got his book and ending he deserved. I'm so ready for more from this author.

Sheridan Anne had a TALL order with this novella. Not only did she need to redeem a character that was pseudo-villainized in the Reject’s Paradise series, but she also had to sell us on a heroine for him that wasn’t the heroine we grew to know and love- the queen of the Devil’s Reject world, even if we knew Ocean was never meant for Nic...and she had to do all that ALL in a novella length. Tall order indeed- and a risky story to tell.

But, for the most part, this succeeds in many counts. Nic was actually a favorite of mine- I really felt his connection to Ocean, his potential as a hero, and earlier in the series at times wished he was our hero. But, Sheridan proved me wrong - not only in the beautiful way she elevated Colton as the perfect other half to Ocean’s souls, but she also did it by the demise of Nic- a cut that I felt deeper because I loved him so vehemently early on. He devastated and destroyed me- constantly disappointed me. And while we saw aspects of his redemption, his past transgressions with Ocean and the crew weren’t forgiven...at least by me. I felt I didn’t know him, and I wondered if he’d fallen too far- so be honest, I wasn’t sure how I felt about getting his story.

But, Sheridan does redeem him- and reignites my interest in him. And, I feel like I know him better know- we understand more what makes him operate the way he does, some of his history, and especially his history with Roni, our heroine. With this, Nic is a more rounded character. And I loved that.

Roni on the other hand I felt more meh about- and it’s certainly not because of any attachment I have to Ocean-Nic. I think Sheridan has Nic really well explain his feelings for both of them- we understand better where his feelings from Ocean came from and his challenges there, and we also really understand his situation with Roni. I needed an explanation as to how Nic can be so obsessed with Ocean in one breath and the Nic we see in this story the next- and I think Sheridan gives us that convincingly. So I think my hesitation with Roni is just Roni herself. Roni is his perfect match- I just wanted to understand her more, emotionally connect with her more- which I think would have made the chemistry deeper and more complex. But, I certainly enjoyed them together overall.

Fast paced, unexpected, and an entertaining read!

Audiobook Review: I went into this novella completely blind. And while I enjoyed it, I had no backstory to the main series. It was a good listen, but I think with more familiarization and context, it would have been better. In this short novella there was kidnapping, second chance romance, enemies to lovers, high action, and a hea with a badass FMC. It was entertaining, but so much was packed into that little novella and it flew at 100mph lol. It was like boom, boom, boom. Like it tried to have multiple plot points. But like I said, it may have been better with more context. I enjoyed it nonetheless.

The narrators Maeve York and Blake Lockheart did a great job on the performance.

Nic escaped prison... yeah no surprise there. And it shouldn't come as surprised neither when he goes for Roni. After being his obsession for a long time, there's no way he's letting her get away again. Now Roni needs to decide if she's worth living her life behind to follow Nic.

As usual Sheridan's story keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, and start again the cycle of rereading all of her series just to get a little bit more of her amazing writing.

I was kindly provided with an ARC by the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Fun, short, fast paced but it still packs a punch. I have been dying to get my hands on Nic's story since the ending of Ride Or Die and it didn't dissapoint. Only thing I wish is that we more time with him. Another fantastic book from Sherdian Anne.

Mixed feelings.
.
On one hand I enjoyed the plot, I loved seeing the characters from Rejects Paradise and I enjoyed seeing Nic redeem himself and a new look into him as opposed to the psychotic killer side.
.
I have mixed feelings about Roni and I’m not sure if it’s because I don’t feel their connection or I just missed the point entirely but there just wasn’t anything there for me. I understand that who she was, the councillor side was someone she was trying to be, but I also didn’t buy that she was a gang leader or gang leaders wife either. Maybe I’m just in denial full stop about her and Nic but there just wasn’t anything there for me, which I hate saying cause I love Sheridans books but this one fell short for me. I also think the warning in the beginning wasn’t warranted. I fully expected a whole different level with this book, darker, more twisted maybe but it just felt like I was reading a shorter version of Ride or Die which I’m not mad at but it was kinda disappointing. I just expected more.
.
I liked that Nic gave a explanation as to his feelings between ocean and Roni because that’s what threw me the most, I didn’t understand how he went from his obsession to all of a sudden this and while I understand it, it also didn’t diminish the fact there was no connection for me. I’m not in anyway saying he should be with ocean, the opposite. I just didn’t feel his connection with Roni is all. Again I enjoyed the plot, I loved the action, I enjoyed seeing past characters but the connection between the characters fell flat for me which is what let it down for me. I hate giving reviews like this but at the same time I don’t want to say something I didn’t mean. Maybe if I gave it another read it might change my mind and I’d be happy to change my review but as of right now this is it.

Before we even talk about plot, can we talk about the cover?

Why does this series share the exact same girl as Featherstone Academy by K.C. Kean? I don’t know who published first. I don’t know who copied who. But when two different series use the same stock model, it screams “low effort.” And that’s not exactly the vibe you want when you’re trying to sell gritty mafia drama.

Now.

This series desperately wants to be dark urban mafia romance. Guns. Blood. Trauma. Alpha males. High stakes.

The problem? Logic quietly left the building somewhere around chapter three.

We have full-scale gang wars happening inside cities. Hundreds of men shooting at each other. Automatic weapons. Explosions. And somehow… no police. Not one siren. Not one officer wondering why half the city sounds like a battlefield.

If 200 armed men start shooting in a populated area, I expect at least mild inconvenience from law enforcement. Instead? Silence. Apparently the police department in this universe works remotely.

Then there’s the money situation.

These gangs deal drugs. Weapons. They supposedly have wealthy elites in their pockets. And yet… they can’t afford gas for their cars?

So what exactly is the incentive to join? Violence, trauma, and poverty? You could get that working retail without the gunshots.

Now let’s discuss the pregnancy storyline, because I aged spiritually reading it.

The FMC has PCOS — one of the leading causes of infertility in women. Women with PCOS often struggle for years. They take medication. They monitor ovulation. They fight their own bodies to conceive.

Our girl? Pregnant from precum.

Sure.

And the paternity test? The doctor takes Ocean and Colton’s blood to determine if the baby is his.

Sir.

That is not how DNA works. That is not how fetal testing works. That is not how any of this works.

You need fetal DNA. It’s delicate. It carries risk. But apparently in this universe, you take two adult blood samples — none from the fetus — and that’s magically enough to determine paternity. The only thing that test realistically confirmed is that Ocean and Colton aren’t related, which, considering the rumors in book one, is honestly the most believable result of the whole storyline.

Meanwhile, murders happen constantly. Shootouts. People disappear. Violence everywhere.

Police involvement: still zero.

At this point, I’m convinced law enforcement is just a rumor.

Now, characters.

Ocean.

I loved her name. I really did. I was ready for a tough, sharp heroine.

What I got was a walking contradiction.

She falls in love with the man who bullies and humiliates her. She walks directly into obvious traps. She forgives the man who killed her father. She still idolizes the father who literally sold her like property.

Her decision-making process feels like she spins a wheel labeled “worst possible option” and commits fully.

She refuses money from Colton because pride — but is perfectly fine with him funding an international foundation for her to run.

She rejects one man for killing a murderer — but softens toward the literal psychopath who murdered her father and stalks her.

Consistency is not a personality trait here.

I tried to like her. I failed.

Nic.

The obsessive ex. Fine. We hate him for four books. That works.

Then the novella Black Widow arrives and suddenly he’s a morally gray hero with a redemption arc and a happy ending?

Absolutely not.

A cold-blooded killer gets rewarded with love — from a woman who escaped gang life, built something better, openly hated gangs… and then just casually falls for one?

That’s not morally gray. That’s narrative delusion.

Women who escape violent environments don’t romanticize going back. That novella felt unnecessary, tone-deaf, and honestly insulting.

Colton is the only consistently written character in this entire series. He makes sense. His reactions are grounded. His motivations don’t change based on plot convenience.

Frankly, I feel bad for him.

And here’s what truly pushed me over the edge:

We spend endless pages on a pregnancy storyline that makes no logical sense and ultimately contributes almost nothing meaningful to the plot. We get a whole novella dedicated to characters I did not ask for. But we don’t get even one proper chapter of Colton being a dad?

Excuse me?!

You mean to tell me I endured four books of chaotic gang wars, medical fantasy science, moral whiplash, and emotional nonsense… and I don’t even get to see Colton hold his daughter? No soft dad moments? No proud father scenes? No interactions between him and his baby girl? No wholesome chaos with his friends meeting her?

Instead, the focus shifts to Nic. To Jude. To literally everyone except the couple I suffered through four books for.

I did not invest in this series to watch secondary characters get spotlight redemption arcs while the main relationship gets crumbs.

After everything, I deserved payoff. I deserved happiness. I deserved to see Colton being a father.

Instead, I got robbed.

Now here’s the frustrating part: this series had moments.

Side characters like Milo and Sebastian were genuinely enjoyable. There were scenes where Colton and Ocean had real chemistry. I had moments where I was smiling, fully invested.

And then logic would show up, tap me on the shoulder, and say, “Are we serious right now?”

This series could have been at least 50% stronger with proper editing, better research, and someone willing to ask, “Does this make sense?”

It had potential.
It had intensity.
It just didn’t have credibility.

And that’s what ultimately ruined it for me.

Great Story & Narration🎧The King Takes His Queen!

Black Widow
Rejects Paradise
By: Sheridan Anne
Narrated by: Blake Lockheart, Maeve York

Not only is it great to be back in Sheridan Anne’s “Rejects Paradise” world again, but it is Dominic “Nic” Garcia’s story! Nic, the leader of the Black Widows gang, breaks out of jail and heads back to Breakers Flats, but he has something or rather someone to pick up first near Bellevue Springs, Veronica “Roni” Russo. Roni hears of his jailbreak and knows he is coming for her, so she tries to make a run for it, but she is not fast enough. She puts up a good fight, but there was no way she was going to overpower or out smart Nic, so he grabs her and takes her to the place he will hide out in. Nic knows she is his forever girl, but Roni is not exactly on board with that, and when her brother catches wind that he abducted her, it brings the West Side Wolves into the Widows territory. This novella sized book packed a lot of story, and I loved how it all played out, with non-stop drama, some angst, action and steamy romance. The writing, plot and world building are fantastic, and there is never a dull moment. It was great to see some characters from the earlier books, including Ocean. Sheridan Anne, thank you for another fantastic story and wild ride.

🎧 📚🎧 Blake Lockheart and Maeve York were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters would sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their performance elevates the story to another level. Thank you for another fantastic listen.

Black Widow
Rejects Paradise
By: Sheridan Anne
Narrated by: Blake Lockheart, Maeve York

You can take me back to Breakers Flats anytime! I remember Nic well when he was out to protect Ocean and now 6 years later, he is breaking out of jail to take back what is his. But what exactly is his? Well, control of the Black Widows to begin with. He wants his MC back, and he is ready to rule. But first, he is out to find the love he has missed, and will go to any extremes to get her. Roni has moved on with her life, and the only way Nic is going to get her is to kidnap her. And then, she isn't going to be willing to stay, will she? These two have history, but the worst of it is, her family has always been in charge of the rival MC. How will this all go down when her brother finds out she is with Nic? This book is a quick listen, but it's so much fun. Getting so see old "friends" and see where Nic's life leads is a gem in itself. It's spicy, it's action packed and it's fantastic!

Blake Lockheart and Maeve York bring all the fun to life with an amazing performance. Lockheart is a favorite and hearing him voice this series is a pleasure. He knows the characters, and easily falls back into the voices and style that had me loving the series. York steps in as Roni, conflicted and passionate, this fiery woman comes out in full force. Love these two together and enjoyed their narration.

I really enjoyed Ocean’s series and was always felt on the fence about Dominic/Nic with how much he cared for her but what he did and never saw his transgressions as an issue. I was happy to see his ending in book 4 of her series, but I wondered if he would get his happy ending and I was happy to see he did ❤️

I did wish this was longer, to give us more time seeing Ronnie embracing this side of herself and to see all the love and budding between them and seeing more of the Widows who we loved in Ocean’s series. I do wonder if we will get any stories of them, because I enjoyed their antics! I did enjoy seeing Nic stand up for her and I didnt realize how much time they knew each other and what Nic did to Ronnie’s exes haha. I liked that Ronnie stood up to her brother and then the ending was awesome seeing everyone come together to be there for them both.

Narration was done well, I enjoy both of these voices and emotions they evoke especially with Ronnie being captured and being mad at Nic and then the panic when stuff hit the fan and their hard-fought love. I felt for them and didnt want the audiobook to end.

Overall I am happy the author gave us their HEA, again I just wish we got a little more of the plot/them coming together and see how Ronnie fell into her role as Queen haha. 4/5 stars from me! It makes me want to do a re-listen because of the tidbits we got about Ocean and her family ❤️

I loved Sheridan Anne's Reject Paradise series so, so much. It was how I discovered her! I was quickly pulled into a world filled with dominant men, violence and steamy scenes that I think we all expect from a romance novel. *wink wink*

I was absolutely THRILLED when Sheridan said she was writing Nic's story. I felt that he deserved to have his story told because not only was his story intriguing in a way that I couldn't help but be pulled in by, he was my favourite character in Rejects Paradise.

Now I will give Sheridan 100% credit for keeping Nic's voice extremely consistent. I never felt that she did him dirty with his voice or the way he acted. Another thing to be noted is that this book is a NOVELLA which automatically means fewer details and plot - it's just the way it works folks.

I did like the story, I do not regret reading it at all - worth the time and as always I enjoyed the banter and steam that Sheridan is so good at adding into her plots. However, I would have loved to have seen more details. I felt a little let down by the lack of back story with Roni - there were SO many hints on her backstory and how/why she has this dark side. I would have loved to have gotten deeper insight into Roni's story, as well as her relationship with Nic.

Obviously, because this story has limited words - I feel a little in the dark. I will note, that is NOT Sheridan's fault. Her writing is beautiful, as always!

Wow! A novella that I didn’t want to see it end! We finally get Nic’s book! He made an appearance in the Rejects Paradise series that was amazing! I knew zinc was a bad boy but that was then, this is now! He’s now a full fledged bad guy! After he breaks out of prison with some help from familiar characters, Nic goes straight to the one woman who can bring him to his knees, Roni. I didn’t know too much about Roni, because this brilliant author would only give us snippets of who was going to be the one that tamed Nic! In all honesty, I thought the story was just a little too short BUT it was amazing! I wanted a longer story for Nic and Roni but I’m satisfied that this story was well written! A couple things seemed to be rushed just to get the plot to move forward and it worked for this novella. If you are a fan of the Rejects Paradise series, this is a must read! I’m crossing my fingers and toes that Sheridan will write individual stories of the guys who are closest to Nic. If so, I can’t wait to read them too! Another winner winner! I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Sheridan Anne you are amazing ma'am! Every book or novella just sucks you in. I was so excited that we got to read more into Nic!

I won't lie while reading O's story I hated Nic! He and her could not stay away from one another but it seemed like they both brought out the toxic characteristics in each other. Some days they loved each other and some days their hate could burn the world down.

We knew back in Rejects Paradise that Nic and Roni had some kind of history but I never would have imagined what exactly that history entailed!! And there is no doubt that after this novella that they were meant for each other! Roni could hold her own and be the dark queen that Nic needed. Nic could be her dark monster and protector.

If you LOVED Rejects Paradise as much as I did then I implore you to read Black Widow by Sheridan Anne! You will not understand Nic better until you do! Roni and Nic's love story was explosive!

I always had a soft spot for Nic in The Rejects Paradise series. I was team Nic all the way until there was just no hope for Ocean and Nic and I may have shed a few tears when I had to let that dream go.

Anyway Black Widow does not disappoint. Nic is just as dark and depraved as we remember from his time with Ocean. This book picks up right from the end of Ride or Die when Nic has just managed to escape from jail. Roni out delightful psychiatrist finds herself in Nic’s sights and there is no turning back.

I loved watching Nic redeem himself and the chemistry between him and Roni is off the charts steamy 🔥🔥

I loved seeing some more of my favourites - Nic’s boys - Eli, Sebastian and Kai, (who I really want to see get their own HEA), Ocean, Colton and Storm and even Christian and the Wolves.

This book is deliciously dark - but I expected no different with Nic - so heed the trigger warnings.

I only have one complaint - and that is it wasn’t long enough

I loved Nic in the Reject's Paradise series. I'm beyond glad that he has his own novella now and we got to see him take center stage. The plot was fantastic and picked up right where Ride or Die ended. Nic was still the same dark and depraved character that I loved. It was nice to see him move on from Ocean and I'm glad there was the explanation of his relationship with her vs Roni. I wasn't sure how I felt about Roni at the beginning. I'm not one of those people who was mad that him and Ocean didn't end up together, but I just had an issue connecting with her character at the beginning. However, I do like her and Nic together. Her character grew on me and by the end of the book I was loving it. Their dynamic was hard and fast but I do love the backstory for them as well. It was a great book and I'm kind of sad it was a novella and not a series.

It only got five stars because that's the highest they allow.. It deserved way more. I didn't realize how bad I needed this book until I was on the last page. It was everything I needed to finish out Rejects Paradise. I loved Nic even in Ocean's story and I cried like a baby when he turned himself in to the police. But this book and the storyline.. Like woah.. Sheridan Anne worked her magic as usual and killed it with this novella. She made sure to make Nic way more likable and his character was redeemed in the end. Don't get me started on how much I loved Roni. Her don't mess with me attitude was my favorite. I feel like this has become a must for my fmc's. If you loved the rest of the books in this series this one will be no different I can promise you! Enjoy a great read with great characters.

Audiobook Review:

It was nice jumping back into the Rejects Paradise series. There were secondary characters I really loved and wanted more of and one of them was Dominic aka Nic. While I loved Ocean, I loved Veronica aka Roni for Nic so much. Their backgrounds were similar enough to make it relatable for them and of course there was the history that I liked finding out they had together. While this was a quick, short story, I found that it packed quite a punch. It had plenty of action and drama going on. It also had more of the characters I’d liked or loved from the previous book. The narration was excellent and I’d love to hear more from both these performers. I’d also love more stories from this world. I can think of at least four secondary characters I’d love to see get their own books.

Ahh Nic. I fell in love with the character in the Rejects Paradise series and now that he has his own novella I can officially call him my book boyfriend. There was just something about this character that made me overlook his behaviour in the previous series, something drew me in, and in this book I fell hard! I liked Roni for him, they complemented each other’s crazy. Although it took me a while to get over how quick some of the characters changed I also had to remind myself that this is only a novella. There wasn’t an entire books worth of angst and overall I LOVED the story. Would I have liked more yes. Would that have been right for these characters, probably not. I loved the catch up with Kairo, Elijah and Sebastian too.

As soon as I started reading the Rejects Paradise series I couldn't help but fall in love with all the characters, even though a few of them made me want to strangle them. Nic was a character that I wanted to dive deeper into and see inside his head, what makes him tick, and what makes him obsess the way we she him doing throughout all the books.

Finally we see Nic get his time to shine and finally go after what he wants and not surprisingly its the one that got away. Now if you have read the first series you know its not Ocean and I totally agree that they were not meant to be, but I will say I was surprised by the love interest.

If you are reading this first make sure you go back and read the series because its a story you won’t want to miss.

Black Widow by Sheridan Anne is a dark romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Blake Lockheart and Maeve York. This book is set in the Rejects Paradise world, and I would recommend reading after you finish the series to avoid any spoilers.

I absolutely love Sheridan's books! I was so excited when Sheridan announced she was doing a book for Dominic and let me tell you she did not disappoint. I loved Dominic and Roni together. I really enjoyed getting both of their points of views throughout the book.

Blake and Maeve did an amazing job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you're looking for a dark romance, gang romance, or romantic suspense.

This novella is set in the Rejects Paradise world. You should definitely read those books before reading this novella. Dominic has recently broken out of prison and taken his place as the leader of the Black Widows. The Black Widows are a rival gang to the Wolves which Roni's brother runs. So the fact Dominic came back for Roni, or rather kidnapped her, we automatically know there's going to be major conflict. Dominic has been in love with Roni since he was 16 however he's just now realizing it, after being with other people. Roni has tried to straighten her life out. Honestly, Roni is Dominic's equal. I think that's why they worked. Like a lot of people, I only wish it were a longer reconciliation and story 🥰.

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left this review.

I have been literally dying for Nic's book so couldn't wait to get started on this and Sheridan did not disappoint at all!
Nic is still his twisted and dangerous self, we get to learn more about his past and what the last few years has been like for him. I loved the new dynamic with Roni and how protective and obsessed with her he was, i think that even shocked his guys and made his previous relationship with Ocean look like child's play!! Roni fit Nic perfectly, i loved her sass and the chaos she causes to Nic's life!! Amazing......just wish it was longer! Loved it so much!!

I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
