Usually when you pick up a book, the first few chapters are on a separate high. They usually tend to encompass a lot of stuff, all of the tricks of the trade to grab the readers. Bovine tricks is the first book for me, whose first chapters made me want to retreat and never to return. Its a good thing that I have a strict policy against DNFing a book. It takes a lot for me to DNF a book and this book nearly scored that honour till I reached the mid of the book and it finally settled.
The major factor that repelled me is the core subject and theme. So let me but it in capital letters. AUTHOR IS AMAZING. HER WRITING IS AMAZING. What is NOT AMAZING is the story. The plot. It is PURELY ME because from the very beginning, reading everything made my skin crawl. The worst being that the book kind of have passiontely narrated the subject so in depth that it was literally boiling my skin.
if you want to picture my dilemma then imagine yourself attending a music concert. Only you discover after reaching the venue that the music is played by dragging nails through blackboard. It is hurting but then you have paid a ridiculous amount for the balcony seat right above the speaker. Plus you want to find out where this will lead to. So yeah that was me through the first phase of the book
Also I AM NEVER LOOKING AT A COW with a straight face again. (Those who have read the book will understand what I am saying). This is the first time I learnt about Hucows and fetish around…….Oh wait !! the bile is back…. Hold on …I need to throw up.
For somebody who was learning about this concept first time, Imagine having to sit through page after page for the explanation of each and every aspect of this concept… I literally saw my skin crawl out of my skeleton.
Ok I think I have tested the patience of author now. So let me come to the real review.
For me personally the first phase was like really hard to bear and picture. It was once when the attention was diverted from all the fetish and Hucow description that I could finally catch my breath and then it was comparatively much more comfortable for me to watch the events unfold. Although you have to admit that even the investigative trail was magically falling into places. But that helps you to actually follow things without having to sharpen your brain cells much.
Conclusion
With sexual fetish, pornography and the sex trades and everything thrown right into the very opening, the book would be a challenge to get through for anybody who finds these as an uncomfortable topic or have some serious trigger issues. The book kind of has gone in-depth in explaining and picturing them or maybe my mind went too vivid there.
So yes the first half is a tough nut to crack ( oh god !! i dropped an unwanted pun there) Second half is much more smooth and faster and easier. If you are looking for a full on action and Testosterone filled investigation then I would say you will have to notch down the expectation meter a bit down. Its more of an easy breezy thriller. Quick in and Quick out kind of investigation. Easy to follow and read on a weekend or for an in flight read provided you are able to swallow the whole sexual predator and abuse facts mentioned. It is a bit uncomfortable.
Personally I think I couldn’t enjoy the book because it dealt with a theme that I am not comfortable . So let not my taste in book cloud your judgment as I still feel second half was a quick and good read
Bovine Tricks by Seelie Kay turned out to be quite an original and engrossing romantic suspense. It has lots of intrigue, drama, romance, and an unusual investigation that leads our character/s on quite an eye opening adventure. The book had my curiosity piqued right from the beginning, what with the title and the blurb- colour me intrigued. MISix agent Tillie Spenser is Tasked with finding a missing member of the British aristocracy- but this missing person case gets a whole lot more complicated than she could ever have imagined- leading to an investigation she won’t soon forget, that’s for sure. An original and fun read…
Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue Book 1) by Seelie Kay is a romantic suspense story. Agent Tillie Spencer finally gets her story. She is on a mission to find the missing royals. What ensues is an action packed and strange eye opening journey into a strange world that will have you on the edge. It is a fun read and in Seelie’s typical style with easy and cheeky banter and a little humour to get you through. A great start to a new series.
Mathilda Honoria Spencer, or Tillie is an Agent with MISix who works for the Queen, she carries out assignments when needed and is on currently on an assignment investigating a farm but so far all she can see are male farmhands and cows, but no sign of the supposed Hucows she is there to look for. As she discusses the situation further via her earpiece, she learns more about what exactly these Hucows are, how they are trained by fetish schools to become more like the animals, how they can be physically enhanced to resemble the animals and be used for pet play, as well as milking, she becomes more and more disgusted with the whole idea, but carries on tryin to investigate further before finally reporting on what she has found. This is when she finds out that she has an invitation to an auction where these Hucows and other Huanimals are going to be sold to the highest bidder in order to raise funds for a charity, thankfully though, she will be accompanied by her partner in more ways than one, Agent Abdul Ali so that she can search for the main focus of ehr assignment, Lady Annabelle, a minor royal before she ends up in the wrong hands.
The day of the auction arrives and Agents Tillie and Abdul are ready, he has done his research and is prepared to ask the difficult questions when they go to inspect the goods, where Tillie is struggling just to hide her true feelings on the situation. As they are invited to sit and prepare for the main event, they are still looking for Lady Annabelle, but as they are also looking for those there under duress, they join in the bidding on some of the others to keep there cover intact until she appears, however, it appears that she has an almost full transformation and it is shocking to both Tillie and Abdul. They manage to win the bid when they stare down another bidder whom they recognise from past assignments, however when the auction is raided and the Huanimals disappear from under their noses, even as their money has been taken, a race against time begins to find Lady Annabelle and rescue her.
As the search continues and the lines begin to blur Tillie and Abdul are struggling to keep duty and feelings separate and the hunt for Lady Annabelle becomes more complicated and there are more dead ends than leads, will they get to her in time before those who want to do her harm carry through? This is a race against time to rescue a royal but things are not all as they seem and the blurred lines between fantasy and reality keep you on your toes and make you think at the same time.
Bovine Tricks written by Ms. Kay was different and great at the same time. This is the second book that I have read by this author and of course it won’t be the last. The characters are amazing and I love how they play off of each other.
Mathilda Honoria Spencer (aka Tillie) struggles with on her latest assignment but she thinks to herself is this real or fantasy. Tillie is tasked with discovering the whereabouts of Lady Annabelle Trask, and now Tillie is thrust into a world of Hucows and other human animals. We are in a world that raises serious questions about sexual fetishes, intentional physical enhancements, and even, pornography, but in the end, Tillie has only one mission to rescue and return Lady Annabelle to the Queen.
Luckily, Tillie has her partner Agent Abdul Ali, he is her work partner and her life partner and they work great together. While struggling with their feeling they must work hard on this case.
Will they be able to over come their issues or will they walk away from each other to follow different paths?
Bovine Tricks follows the story of two MISix agents tasked with discovering the whereabouts of a missing royal, who has been sucked into the seedy world of Hucows. These women are trained to act like cows, are traded and bred, milked and impregnated, and surgically altered to seem more like their bovine counterparts. The two agents go undercover to determine if their royal charge is engaging in the submissive behaviour willingly, or if she has been sold into the trade, and drugged or otherwise psychologically damaged to accept this behaviour. The writing is intense and very descriptive; I was able to picture the auction scene in vivid detail. Sights sounds and smells were all written compellingly.
While I can appreciate the unique storyline, this theme wasn't for me. Perhaps one of her other novels would be something I enjoy more, as she seems to be a prolific authour with a diverse set of works. If you are interested in crime, espionage, sexual trafficking rings, and don't mind fuzzy lines in sub/dom romances, you might just enjoy this quick read.
I wasn’t sure what to expect with the title and the Hucows, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have read other books from the author so I knew that I would most likely enjoy it.
MiSix Mathilda and her partner get an assignment where they have to go undercover to find Lady Annabelle. This brings them into the Hucow world and some very interesting things. They have to find out if Annabelle is there on her own free will or if she is a captive. The things that they encountered were very interesting to say the least.
Will they be able to save Lady Annabelle? Does she want to be saved?
You definitely have to keep a very open mind while reading this book. The author does a great job with her writing and pulls you right in. You get mystery, crime, dom/sub type romance and so much more. I really enjoyed the characters as well. This book will leave you looking at cows in a totally different way and with living in a rural area I see them on a daily basis, LOL. 1-click and get started today on this new series. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I enjoyed reading this book. This is an author I never hesitate to pick up when I come across her books. Her stories are fun, entertaining and fast paced. I am pulled into them from the start by characters that make the story feel realistic. This book is no different. This is the first book in this series and what a great start it is. MiSix Mathilda has found herself in another case of mystery. She was tasked with finding Lady Annabelle. This takes her on a journey of animals and leaves questions about sexual things. As her and her partner get more into the case, they find a terrorist connection. Will these two cross a line? Will they continue to serve their queen or will lives take them in different directions. The characters brought the story to life on every page. I enjoyed the mystery part of the story that kept me asking questions as well. I highly recommend this book.
Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue Book 1) by Seelie Kay. I love Seelie Kay so whenever I see a book by her I grab it. This one was no different. The type of book was a little different but it was still a great read. This is a short romantic suspense read that will leave you wanting more. Its the story of MISix Mathilda (Tillie) and Abdul. The Queen has tasked them with finding Lady Annabelle and taking her back to the Queen. Tille and Abdul have to muddle through all the animals and weird goings on to find her. There are secret agents to be dealt with, terrorist, royalty members and romance to be had. While they are looking for Lady Annabelle Tillie and Abdul find out they have feelings for one another. The only problem with that is do they risk being together or do they go their separate ways? Read Bovine Tricks to find out!
4 stars! This book was different but I liked it. I didn’t think I was going to be able to get into the story but I sure did. Tillie kind of annoyed me, it seems like she is in the wrong line of work, everyone seems to dislike her for all of the mess ups she has caused, and her partner Abdul doesn’t seem to care to defend her. I did enjoy their romantic relationship though, Abdul is very much in love with her, so I wish she would just hurry up and take the next step with him. This author did an amazing job with describing how the Hucows looked, it all seemed so real. The story was very unique, original and fantastical and I really enjoyed reading Tillie and Abdul’s quest to save Lady Annabelle per the Queen’s orders, and Lady Annabelle is a whole other can of worms. All the characters were very well written and easy to relate to. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This was a well written story containing romance and danger. I loved the characters and the relationship between Tillie and Abdul is entertaining.
Mathilda is a member of the MISix. She is sent on a mission by the Queen. Lady Annabelle Trask has gone missing. Not sure if she has been kidnapped or gone of her own free well Mathilda and Abdul set out to find her and enter a world Mathilda finds hard to get her head around. The world where humans are turn into animals. Who would do this willingly?
Together they must now get Lady Annabelle out of that world. But it isn't as easy as they thought it would. Is she there willingly or is she forced to be there against her will. And can Mathilda and Abdul relationship survive or will one of them cross the line from work partners to sexual partners. Its an exciting adventure where fantasy becomes reality.
Due 5/9 Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue #1) by Seelie Kay
This isn't the first book I've read by the author. Kay is talented and every book of hers is amazing. Bovine Tricks will make you question what was going on through her mind.
Tillie is an Agent and does whatever the Queen wants. Things with this case are tricky. Lady Arabella is missing and the Queen needs Tillie to find her. The quote I chose for Tillie is: “It sounds like they are tied to their stalls, maybe even chained. We are going to need some clippers, bolt cutters, and possibly, lock pics.”
Abdul is also an Agent but he is Tillie's lover. He wants Tillie to be fine and this case is messing with their heads. The quote I chose for Abdul is: “Unless we can figure out a way to get into those barns without being seen.”
Bovine Tricks by Seelie Kay is the first book in the Royals Gone Rogue series. This book is a little different from others you might have read by this author but it is still well written and highly entertaining. I knew from reading the description that this book would at least be interesting and it certainly was that. The world that the main characters are thrust into is not something you would stumble across in every day life. The author handles that well and has created a great story as a result. I liked the main characters as well. I thought they had a strong connection and were quite fun to read about. The book was full of suspense and, despite having a slightly different type of content, still had depth to it. This was a great book and certainly worth reading.
Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue Book 1) by Seelie Kay - Review by Gail Guerrero
Four Stars
I found this book to be a different read. It was very entertaining and had its moments of excitement. The author does now how to place the characters in that perfect situation to deliver that bang. I liked the characters. The female lead wasn’t like most but she definitely came close to it. I thought the story line was good. That question of who comes first Queen and country or love? The world that the author created was beautiful and different. Definitely somewhere I can picture. I really liked the search for Lady Annabelle. The chemistry was nice between Tillie and Abdul. Overall all interesting story.
Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue Book 1) by Seelie Kay is a trip! It was so much fun to read. Author Seelie Kay has done an amazing job bringing this story to life and making it believable. Special Agent Mathilda’s job is to find the missing Lady Trask for the Queen. She’s already made a mess of things, so this operation will either redeem her or undo her career. Along the way, she and her partner, Abdul, reveal a terrorist plot and the adventure twists and turns its way to the end. If you like romance stories with a bit of a shock factor, this is a fun read. Bovine Tricks is definitely a unique escape, and I recommend it with four stars. Luckily, this is the first book in the Royals Gone Rogue Series, so there will be more adventure to come!
This is an action-packed adventure featuring a minor character in Kay's Feisty Lawyers series. MI6 agent Tillie Spencer is in charge of finding and if necessary, rescuing "Royals Gone Rogue." If this book is any indication of what's to come in future books in this series, poor Tillie is in for a whole lot of "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" I had to look up "Hucow," and like Tillie, I still don't know if they're real. But overall, this is a typical Kay read: Packed with lots of edge-of-your-seat action, a little humor, and a few twists with a surprise ending. As always, well-written and a fun read.
Seelie Kay has written an unusual, fun, and entertaining story with Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue Book 1). This is a book that combines a world of sexual fetishes, pornography, terrorism, royalty, secret agents, human animals, and romance. How does Kay bring all of these possible plot twists together in one cohesive story? It is possible with likable characters such as the MISix Agent Mathilda Honoria Spencer and her partner, Agent Abdul Ali. Their mission is to rescue Lady Annabelle Trask from the terrorists and return her safely to the Queen. After reading this first book, I am ready and waiting for the second!
I never hesitate to pick anything up by Seelie Kay, so when I saw a new series was coming from her I knew I had to see what it was all about. Boy, did it not disappoint. With her typical witty banter and characters she has taken some interesting topics and thrown them together in a seamless and perfect way to weave this magnificent story that will engage you from beginning to end. I loved every character and each twist and turn throughout. I am invested and will be back for every single one of the following books. This is promising to be a fun new series that you won’t want to miss out on from Seelie Kay!
Bovine Tricks (Royals Gone Rogue Book 1) by Seelie Kay was an interesting read. I'm not going to lie, this wasn't my favorite. I didn't care so much for the content, I personally felt like it was very weird and the beginning was off putting for me. However, it got much better towards the end. I was easily sucked in, once I got over the initial shock of the hucow and bovine fetishes. This book was well written and had a lot of adventure thrown in. I'm not sure how I like the ending. I felt like it ended on a cliff hanger, and then it also didn't. It's hard to describe without spoilers. I would read the next book in The series, just to see what happens next!
Bovine Tricks is the first book in the Royals Gone Rogue series by Seelie Kay.
This was my first time reading anything by this author, but I would lookout for more books in the future. I loved the fun and enthusiasm that runs throughout the book. The pace was really quick and the story was finished sooner than I would have liked! The pages just kept on turning. The storyline was a bit different and just when I thought I had things figured out a whole new twist would be introduced. The characters are fun, and the main character Mathilda is relatable in her struggles in both her career and her love life. If you’re looking for a fast-paced and lively read I would recommend this book.
Bovine Tricks by Seelie Kay is the first book in the Royals Gone Rogue series. The story features MISix Agent Mathilda Honoria Spencer and her partner Agent Abdul Ali looking for the missing Lady Annabelle Trask. I have enjoyed this author's books in the past and enjoyed this one as well. The story is creative and not your usual missing-person story. At times I wondered where the story was going but it added to the fun of the story. This is a quick read with romance and special agents. I enjoyed Agent Mathilda, Tillie, her reactions to the situation made me laugh and made her a relatable character. I look forward to reading more in this series to see what happens next.
Bovine Tricks is book one in the Royals Gone Rogue series by Seelie Kay. This was a fabulous short story that was a little different than what I have read by this author. It was a real delight to read the mysterious tale of suspense and intrigue. Tillie and Abdul are tasked with rescuing and returning a royal to the Queen. A dangerous journey that uncovers many surprises has Tillie and Abdul trying to fight their attraction to each other and complete the mission successfully. With obstacles coming at them at every direction, this story was energetic and edgy. A real thrilling and captivating story. 4 stars.
This is the first book in the Royals Gone Rogue series. This is a Romantic Suspense novel and is 113 pages. This story follows MISix Mathilda (Tillie) and Abdul. The Queen has tasked them with finding Lady Annabelle and returning her to the Queen. Between the animals and strange sexual fetishes, Tillie and Abdul must find the terrorist connection. Along their journey, they start to develop feelings for each other. The problem is, do they follow their hearts toward each other or go their separate ways and continue to serve the Queen?
This book was a bit different than what I normally read but overall it was good. Seelie Kay created a world that was created based on a version of a type of sexual role play. Following the adventures of Abdul and Tillie as they tried to unravel the mystery of where Annabelle was, is an interesting read. Abdul and Tillie made a great couple and their interaction was fun to read. There were a few twists and turns in the story which made it a fun read. If a reader does not mind reading a novel that goes into something a little different, then this book might be right up your alley.
I thought this book was a good one to read over the weekend and this is an author that I never hesitate to pick up because their books are always interesting, fun and entertaining. This one was fast paced and I was pulled in by the awesome main characters. There was some twists in this book and I was intrigued by the mystery the main characters were in the middle of and how they handled many of the crazy situations. I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future! HAPPY READING!
Bovine Tricks by Seelie Kay is the first book in the Royals Gone Rogue series. The hunt is on to find Lady Annabelle. Will Tillie and Abdul be able to find her and rescue her? There is mystery, royalty, twists, and turns as they chase down Lady Annabelle. Tillie and Abdul are sent to a world that Tillie is not only unaware even existed but definitely takes her out of her comfort zone. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters. The easy banter that only people that know each other well can achieve. Would definitely recommend.
Bovine Tricks is the first book in the Royals Gone Rogue Series by Seelie Kay. I have to say Ms. Kay is one of my go to authors. Her books are intense and full of action. They also have a humorous side. They are. just the right length and I can read the. In one sitting. This book features Tillie and Abdul and it has quite a unique storyline. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series.
Bovine Tricks Royals Gone Rogue book 1 By Seelie Kay
This book is a fantasy story, takes things to a whole new level. Well written, keeps your mind intrigued as you keep reading. Kudos to this author as this story shows a strong imagination and strong storytelling skills. This is not my first choice as a story to read, however I was pulled in from the first chapter and it kept me until the end.
I have to say that I rarely read the synopsis for a book, its the cover that catches me to pick up a book. And boy was I surprised. This was a very different read than I expected but done in a great way. I was able to imagine what things looked like as they were described well, so kudos to the author there. I wasnt a big fan of Tillie and I couldnt put my finger on why, I just didnt fully connect with her. Overall a great start to a new series!
There is no doubt this book is very different and interesting at the same time. Trying to visualize what a truly "Hucow"would be, I liked that the author did explain what a Hucow was. This story was unique, very different and entertaining for sure. Characters Abdul and Tillie were hired to find Lady Annabelle Trask and having the story that being abducted and possibly being thrown in to this fantasy world to be changed into an animal, this story has twists, turns and is pure entertainment.
