Falling into Happily Ever After

An Accidental Love Story

Rate this book
Girl walks into clinic to donate blood.
Girl passes out.
Guy comes to her rescue.
Guy happens to be Cutie McCute Stuff and has a medical degree.
To say I’m accident prone is an understatement. More like unlucky in life, love, and Labradors—and I have the scar to prove it. In fact, my coworkers call me Luckless-Lottie.

Dr. Russel Koenig is out of my league, off-limits. Not an option. End of story.

Only, through a cruel twist of my bad luck, the good (looking) doctor purchases his ailing grandmother a dog—the kind my parents breed. They want me to work as the liaison even though I limped away from the family business long ago.

When Russel’s Oma mistakes me for his girlfriend, he doesn’t correct her. Maybe my luck has changed. Our first kiss certainly doesn’t seem like CPR practice.

Is my latest accident the beginning of a new chapter or will rotten luck reign, leaving me forever lonely?

Can being an unlucky klutz be a good thing?
Lottie carried heavy burdens from an incident fifteen years in the past. One shows, a scar running from her cheek bone to the edge of her smile. The others not visible but still debilitating including panic attacks triggered by blood among other things. Her dreams were lost and friends were few. Accidents and missteps were her new normal. Working in billing at a hospital should have been fine but she was constantly teased and harassed with her boss leading the attacks. Then the boss signs her up to give blood. Arriving at the appointed time, a panic attack is triggered, in front of her boss who only laughs and calls her names. Just before passing out Lottie is caught by a doctor, Russell or Rusty, from the hospital to not only gets her through the panic but stays with her until the donation is complete. They part thinking they will never meet again. Days later Lottie is shocked to find Rusty waiting for her at a train station to take her and the companion/protection dog she is in charge of to the dog’s new owner, Rusty’s grandmother. As they begin working to train both the dog and grandmother, Lottie discovers that Rusty has scars that no one else can see but haunt his life draining much of the happiness from it. A wonderful story as you watch each person struggle with the scars and fears that only they can see, as they reach for some peace and happiness in life. I received an early copy and this is my honest review. A great book.

This book was a journey, folks. And not one I’d like to take again. I had an issue with Lottie’s insecurities. Claiming she was unlucky dozens of times was a struggle for me. Probably mentioned a hundred times in the book. I wanted to slap her and give her a savage pep talk to stop it and pull herself together.

Also. When Lottie breaks and enters and steals (and it’s not even addressed at how wrong this was)....... big yikes, guys. And it’s validated that it’s not stealing if it belonged to her in the first place. Ok. Explain that to the judge, ma’am.

The maturity level of both main characters feels barely appropriate for high schoolers. Not at all appropriate for grown adults. The name calling. The fights. The silliness.

There were traumatic events ominously mentioned in both Lottie and Russell’s pasts and once those were revealed at the end, I couldn’t at all connect them to the consistent issues going on with these individuals. And the ending. Ooof. I’m very worried for Lottie and Russell. Very.
I don’t know, guys. :(

I just can’t in good faith recommend this one, unfortunately.

All these 4-5 star reviews are a mystery

This is not a good book. Not even an average book. It is an endless wave of silliness.
Adults, working in a hospital, calling each other cruel names, just like in 3rd grade.
‘Soft boiled egg’, ‘spider knuckles’, ‘pork lips’, these are not names anyone beyond Middle School would use/think of/call a coworker.
Unless this is written by and for preteens, it has to be one of the most ridiculous books I have ever read.
Thank you, Kindle Unlimited. Without you, I would have actually paid for this nonsense.
I stopped reading very early on, and would not recommend this one to anyone.

Sweet Healing in a Small Town

In Ellie Hall's An Accidental Love Story, the spotlight shines on Lottie, the accident-prone, awkward member of the Manhattan friend group that includes Catherine (and Kellan), Hazel (and Maxwell), Minnie (and Tyler), and Colette the Southern belle. Lottie, known at her clerical job at a prominent hospital as Unlucky Lottie and Pig-Lips (her German last name begins with "Schwein" and is easily mispronounced as "swine"), faints at a blood drive and is caught by handsome doctor Russell Ivanov, a "hot doc" per the nurses in the ER where he works. A former bad-tempered hockey player, Rusty (as Lottie calls him) has become a serious doctor and bookworm with a blog, "WordNerd". Lottie's awkwardness and sense of humor about it attract him, but she's so self-conscious about the scar on her face and hurt by her colleagues, she doesn't believe anyone will really love her.

Lottie's parents own a companion dog business, yet their daughter is afraid of dogs for a mysterious reason. Still, she obeys her mother's request to deliver a dog to an old, lonely woman in the small seaside town of Seaswell. Rusty hears from his high school girlfriend that his grandmother ("Oma" in Latvian) has fallen, and he rushes back to her home, the town where he grew up: Seaswell.

Oma meets the dog, Magnolia, and doesn't bond with her. The same isn't true for Rusty and Lottie. They have several outings and sneak out of the house when Oma is asleep to spend time on the beach and look at the stars neither of them can see in the city. She watches him play ice hockey; he watches her figure skate (something she gave up after competitors commentedthat she "only won because the judges felt sorry for" the girl with the scarred face, not because of her genuine talent). Rusty feels at home on the ice, but his violent past catches up to him after the team wins the league championship. Zoe, his ex-girlfriend, warns Lottie that Russell used to be a clown on the team and wasn't always as serious, and Lottie can't reconcile his high school persona with the doctor she knows and loves--though she won't admit it. Rusty (who only allows those he cares for most to call him that) also feels stirrings in his heart but is too hurt by past trauma to admit it to her--or to himself.

Lottie decides to go into business with Zoe, a baked goods endeavor called Cookie & Cupcake after their respective specialties. They'll sell their wares at the Ice Palace to raise money for roof repair and keep it open for future hockey teams and figure skaters. Zoe appreciates that Lottie didn't get "weird" about her having dated Russell in high school and lets slip that she dumped him on prom night. Now Lottie has a window into his pain.

According to the Ice Wizard, the elderly manager of the Ice Palace and a former world-class skater himself, an anonymous donation has brought the total for renovation within reach, and the sales of Cookie & Cupcake will put them over the top. It turns out, to no one's surprise, that the "anonymous" donor is Russell, but the C&C sales money has disappeared. Zoe determines that the thief is Jared, her on-again, off-again boyfriend and member of the team, and Lottie uncharacteristically takes the money back from him while he sleeps off his hangover from the after-party, during which he delivered a vile insult to Russell and smashed his windshield, earning him a well-deserved punch.

When Rusty and Lottie kiss (she reveals that it's her first kiss), it sets off a change in their relationship. Instead of being fake boyfriend and girlfriend--a status Rusty tells Lottie's scornful colleagues to teach them a lesson--they are real boyfriend and girlfriend and potentially more to each other.

But there's an expiration date for them--Rusty has to leave in four weeks, after his broken arm heals, and Lottie has committed to eight weeks of training Magnolia and overseeing the bonding process between Oma and Magnolia, which doesn't seem to be happening.

The secrets come out. Lottie's scar is connected with her fear of dogs, and Rusty became a doctor to save lives after failing to save his suicidal best friend (a nasty crack at that failure drove Rusty to punch Jared at the after-party). Instead of bringing them closer, however, it rips them apart--Rusty literally runs away from his grief, and Lottie lets him go, figuring she should have expected it.

The Ice Palace hosts a showcase, in which Lottie skates to "Singing in the Rain"--when Rusty doesn't contact her, Lottie and Zoe watch tons of feel-good movies, and that's one of their favorites. After her program finishes, Rusty takes the ice, gets down on one knee, and presents her with the ring Oma gave him. (Oma had been taking up his time, sharing memories and advice, when he was incommunicado.) She accepts, he arranges a transfer to a Seaswell hospital, and everyone--except Jared--lives happily ever after.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who can benefit from a story of healing--that's all of us!

Minnie Russell his grandmother and a dog

Minnie has a lousy job at a hospital. The people in her department are the rudest people ever. They call her names and say rude things to her face. They also push their work onto her. A trip to HR did no good in making this go away. She goes to donate blood and passes out because of the thought of blood as well as the sight of the woman leaving with gause taped to her arm. She passes out and is caught by the doctor she has been crushing on. He was very nice and stayed with her and walked her out.

Minnie's parents own and business training and selling support dogs. She has not been helping them because of an incident in her past but they need someone to deliver a dog and stay with the buyer until the owner knows how to care for and has bonded with the dog. She picks the dog up at the airport and takes the train to the small town where the woman lives. When she arrives she finds the doctor from the blood bank is the one who got the dog for his grandmother because she lives along. He can't work because of a broken arm and is planning to stay with his grandmother. They spend a lot of time together since they are both living with grandmother. Of course this leads to falling in love. There is a lot to this story because they both have a back story that touched my heart. Things did no go smoothly but of course they ended up together. The characters were well written, the story moved smoothly and I never lost interest. I recommend this series.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is book 3 of a series but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Lottie and Rusty’s points of view

– a character lost a parent and a sibling due to cancer in the past

Review:

I loved Rusty’s support of Lottie 😍. He kept her spirits up the best he could when she felt down and told her quite a few times how she is perfect and beautiful just the way she is, scar and all. I loved Rusty’s Oma and how she cared for both Rusty and Lottie in her own way but also was a force to be reckoned with when she didn’t want to do something 😂. Lottie is so relatable in her perspective of her looks and her thoughts (both on the romantic and the random stuff). I loved connecting with her and also seeing what made her tick. I really really enjoyed reading the different baking scenes too! 🍪🧁

Lottie believes herself to be unlucky, probably due to getting herself into odd or embarrassing situations on multiple occasions. It doesn’t help that these situations keep happening and her coworkers giving her nicknames like Luckless-Lottie. Until one particularly unlucky day she passes out and is caught by a very handsome doctor. One who is very kind to her and helps make sure she is alright. Lottie probably won’t see him again with where she works in the hospital, but she can still hope.

What she doesn’t expect is for her parents to send her to be a liaison with one of their dogs the next day, let alone that it is going to be for the doctor’s grandmother. Nor does she expect for his grandmother to think that she is dating him and he doesn’t correct her. Could this be a break from her luckless streak or could it be an explosion of misery when everything comes to an end?

Lottie was a klutz who was bullied at work. I don't know how she put up with as long as she did as her coworkers were cruel and due to nepotism HR didn't do anything about it. Sounds like a place that sets itself up for employee fraud which would have been blamed on overworked Lottie, so it was good that she left. Like Lottie I don't like to see blood drawn, but it's not because of some trauma. I'm just squeamish. What an interesting first meeting with Dr. Cutie McCutie, fainting in his good arm. Due to her issue with dogs I was surprised that Lottie's mother would ask her be a trainer even though she has experience. Seaswell sounds like a town stuck back in time with a cranky manipulative grandmother who speaks another language. Lottie and Rusty each have baggage which makes them second guess their developing romance. I loved that she found joy in creative cupcakes. I missed that there wasn't as much from Lottie NYC friends in this book.

Lottie seems to be followed by bad luck. It started with an accident when she was a young teenager and unfortunately followed her in adulthood. Her clumsiness makes her the joke of every co-worker. So, after meeting the cute doctor Russell, even though he seems genuinely interested in her, with her luck, she knows it cannot end well…
I liked how Lottie handled her so-called bad luck. No matter what, she got up and found a new way to cope. On the other hand, Russell ran from everything: his emotions, family (grand-mother), environment, and friends… The two main characters have completely different coping mechanisms. As we accompany them on their journey, we get insight in the strengths and weaknesses of both ways and how it affects them in their daily life. Enjoy Lottie and Russell’s story and find out how they both help each other out!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lottie is unlucky in love and in all other aspects of life. She is clumsy and accident prone, but also endearing because she can laugh at herself. When she passes out at a blood donation site, she is caught by Dr. Koenig. Their meet-cute moment turns into more when they are continually thrown together. They each learn to embrace their pasts, present, and possibly a future together by accepting themselves, flaws and all. Through their time together, they explore the idea that scars are a reminder of bravery, not loss.
The story started out very strong for me, I loved the characters and their unique personalities. I felt like the story sort of took a turn and went in a completely different direction towards the middle. The ending felt rushed and not as cohesive as the first half. A cute, easy read.

Another installment in the Falling Into Happily Ever After Rom Com series by Ellie Hall and it was a fun one. This one actually had a lot more depth to it than I expected. Lottie and Russell both have demons in their past that were affecting their outlook on life and on themselves. There were so many things about Lottie and Russell that I didn’t expect to be part of their story that I ended up really enjoying. I loved Lottie. So far she’s my favorite main character in this series. Lottie isn’t shy about her lack of luck, but there were multiple moments where she was able to laugh at herself and use her stories to cheer up others and I loved that about her.

This is a cute series and the epilogue had me really wondering what Colette, the main character of the next book, is up to.

This one was kind of disappointing for me. I read another in this series and it was really fun and cute. This one could have been, but the writing was so rough it was too distracting. Descriptions and explanations were repeated, sometimes word for word. There would be 3 people talking, then randomly one would "come back" -but I didn't know they'd left...? The two MCs were supposed to be awkward, so their awkward dialogue was mostly fine. It was the narration in between that was uncomfortably awkward, jumbled, and erratic. I also saw multiple typos, the kind that mess up a sentence noticeably and you have to reread it several times. So I can't give this one more than 2.5 stars. However, since I liked her last one, I'll give this author one more try someday.

An incredible emotional story of love, life & the events that shape us.
I haven’t read one this good in a long long time. Sometimes you go through life without asking yourself what’s is my purpose and then you find that what you need is right in front of you, you just have to open your heart. The relationship between Lottie & Rusty will make you feel all the range of emotions from sadness, I have to admit it, I cry ... to laughing out loud. It’s their personal journey through their past, discovering their path. You will fall in love with Russell and his childhood town also their colourful residents. I highly recommended it.

I really liked the first two books in this series. This 3rd book was more difficult for me to read. I had a hard time following the dialogue, and the voices for the two main characters sounded really similar, so I had a hard time realizing who was speaking to whom. Add in a few typos, and that made it even more difficult. The heroine has a pretty quirky personality, and the way her thoughts run reflect that.

The book is pretty emotional for the characters and almost reads like a memoir at times with philosophical metaphors that I have a hard time grasping.

It's sweet and clean with mild kissing.

Lottie is such a klutz, and bad luck seems to follow her. Russell, a doctor at the hospital, keeps rescuing her. This is a fun story, with just a little bit of seriousness. One thing I miss in this book is the connection to her friends in New York. But she makes new friends in Seaswell, finding a great new life. I love Russell's grandmother - crabby and cranky and manipulative, but all for a good cause. Lottie and Rusty both manage to work through their past issues. And my favorite thing about him is that he sees all the good beneath her klutzy and scarred exterior.

Lottie and Rusty meet at the hospital when she tries to give blood, but a panic attack hits instead. Later they meet again when she brings a service dog to his mother and stay to train both of them. Dr. Rusty is there as well, aiding his mother and letting a broken arm heal. Physical healing is not the only thing going on here, as they both have major pain in their backgrounds. By working together and talking, they start to heal and open themselves up to a brighter future. Expect all of the emotions and plenty of tissue used during this story. Well done.

Sweet and Entertaining

An Accidental Love Story is the third book in the Falling into Happily Ever After Rom Com series. I have read a number of other books but Ellie Hall but this is the first of this series. Sometimes I just want to kick back and have a lot of laughs with my romance so I was looking forward to reading this book. I was not disappointed as this book packs a sweetness punch that will almost make you overdose. It is a nicely written story with a couple lovely characters and was an enjoyable read.

Book 1 in the trilogy Falling into Happily Ever After

An unappreciated medical records worker at a major hospital in New York is required to donate blood. When she almost passes out, an ER doctor (she "names" him Dr. Cutie McCute Stuff") gently takes care of her, and you can practically see heart emotions in the air. What happens next is full of surprises, reveals, family, and drastic changes.
Sweet story filled with baggage from the past that leaks into the present. Great characters and interesting situations throughout the story made it hard to put down! Thank goodness there are more books in the series to read!

Adorably Sweet

I really liked Lottie. She’s awkward, clumsy, and completely adorable. I really hated the way her co-workers treated her. She has great friends and her meet cute with Rust was spot on.

At first introduction, Rusty is quite single minded in his life…work. While having a noble profession as an ER doc the rest of his character is lacking.

Over time they each come into their own and become more well rounded. They make each other want to be better, to grow, and flourish.

It was okay.

A bit juvenile in the beginning. So many pointless character too that did nothing but show how unlucky she really is. Given all this, I did enjoy the story very much.

I am in love with the doctor who's also a hockey player. I mean the dog didn't really do much in this story except push the plot forward. Oma was the most adorable part of this story.

And the plot was perfectly what I needed after a heavy read. It was light and fluffy and sweet.

And after a reading slump, this was a great read.

And also, I'm going to check out all the author's other books.

sunshine and grumpy, forced proximity, fake dating, hockey and cupcakes

I wish the story arch with the dog developed a little more and a some of the other problems were technically resolved but i felt like they missed some of the smoothing over that some of the author’s other books had but i love the grumpy and sunshine aspect and the way the guy just turns on the flirty charm sporadically <3. I love how he is the knight in shining armor to her clumsiness and protects her and treasures the way she deserves. Swoon-worthy.

Doctor Russell and unlucky Lottie

Rusty and Lottie are not a perfect couple. But they learn to be almost perfect together. I loved watching these two broken characters grow and uncover their woundedness and stitch themselves together as better, more healthy people. Lottie’s story grabbed me in the first chapter. I didn’t want to stop reading. If you love stories that are hilarious and heartwarming you should read this book.

Overcoming Personal Issues To Fall In Love
This is a warm, wonderful, and clean romantic comedy. A man and a woman have to come to terms with issues in their pasts to accept the love they have found. The characters seem like real people with good traits and flaws. The story deals with both hockey and figure skating with a side of baking. It is a heartwarming story that makes you want to read more. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprout and this is my honest review.

Another Warm and Loving Romance!!

What I really liked about this Romance is that WE, the readers, could see where things. were headed before the main characters. What I didn't like is that it ended long before I was ready to stop reading about them and all the secondary characters in the story! On the other hand, because I am old, and my memory is not so good, I will probably enjoy reading it again.😋

Such a Sweet Story!

I had no idea I would fall in love with Lottie and Rusty, but the whole story and almost all of the characters were lovable, even Rusty's Latvian Oma. I love how both characters lived through such heartbreak, but took a chance on each other and living again. There are so many different topics to interest someone here - service dogs, hockey, figure skating, Latvian food, baking, and doctoring. Enjoy!
