The Wisdom Book of Solomon

Rate this book
Some statements from the Book of "Wisdom is a spirit that is a friend of men and does not leave unpunished those who blaspheme with their lips" (Wis 1:6); "The life of the righteous is in the hands of God and no torment touches it" (Wis 3:1); "Wisdom is easily shown to those who love it and is found by those who seek it" (Wis 6:12). (Wis 3:1); "Wisdom is easily shown to those who love it and is found by those who seek it" (Wis 6:12); "You love all that exists and hate nothing that you have made. But you save all things, for all things are yours, Lord, friend of life" (Wis 11:24, 26). This book was written in Greek at the end of the first century B.C., in the Jewish colony of Alexandria. The title of the book indicates that the main theme is "wisdom". Indeed, in the first part, the author emphasizes the importance of Wisdom as the path to righteousness and life (cf. Wisdom 1:1-6:21). In the central part of the book, there is a description of Wisdom's origin and nature (cf. Wisdom 6:22-9:18); in the last part, the author recalls Wisdom's action in history (cf. Wisdom 10-19).

It is interesting to see someone with the same experience and values; just only under the lens of the old Jewish worldview. It is hard to say how such powerful feelings and experiences that have been around for millennia and remain valid and objective as they are now.

I grew up in a lot of abuse and neglect and know the feeling of having to deal with the pain and suffering through the tyranny and unconscious ignorance of others. Yet, through suffering and hardship, there is God who is willing to provide illumination and wisdom to those who seek it; craving a meaningful relationship with the personification of wisdom, Sophia. Once this experience is achieved, your worldview becomes lifted up to a profound depth of feeling like the universe and God will forever provide guidance and meaning in your life.

No longer living in unconscious darkness, but a life lived within profound principles, virtue, justice, and wisdom. I have to take a lot of time to explore how in the world these deep real experiences that are so outside of normal reality can become assimilated into a normal life... From here, I remain speechless.

"For it is an inexhaustible treasure for men; and those who acquire it prepare themselves to become friends of God, commended to him by the education he gives them. May god enable me to speak as I wish to have thoughts worthy of the gifts I have received, for it is He Himself who guides the wise and repairs the wise, For we are in his hands, we and our speeches, all our intelligence and abilities;

It is he who gave me true knowledge of all things, who made me know the constitution of the world and the virtues of the elements, the beginning, the end, and the middle of time, the succession of solstices and the change of seasons, the cycles of the year and position of the stars, the nature of animals and the instincts of brutes, the power of spirits and the thoughts of men, the variety of plants and the properties of roots.

I know all that is hidden and all that is apparent, for wisdom, the creator of all things, has taught me. For there is in him an intelligence, holy, unique, multiple, subtle, mobile, penetrating, pure, clear, harmless, inclined to good, acute, free, beneficial, benevolent, stable, secure, free from agitation, which can do everything, which takes care of everything, which penetrates all minds, the intelligent, the pure, the subtle.

Wisdom is more agile than all movements; it passes through and penetrates everything, thanks to its purity. It is a breath of God's power, a clear radiance of the glory of the Almighty; therefore, no stain can creep in. It is an outpouring of eternal light, a pristine mirror of God's activity and an image of His goodness.

Unique, he can do everything; unchanging in himself, he renews all things. It pours itself from generation to generation into holy souls and forms the friends and interpreters of God, For God loves only those who live wisely!

It is indeed more beautiful than the sun and outshines all the stars. Compared to the light, it outshines all the stars, For it is to light up the night that evil does not prevail against wisdom." - Chapter 7, "The Book of Wisdom"

I read this because the Quran made reference about this book but I’m having a problem connecting this to the other books written by Solomon.
