TW// toxic masculinity, sexism

This isn’t my favorite one out of all the Aggretsuko graphic novels, but it still had some fun moments.

I Cannot Compete with You, Protein: 3 stars - A goofy little short story following Retsuko and her friends as they speculate about why their yoga instructor is a bit… odd.

Fenneko’s Grand Plan: 4 stars - I really liked the storyline of this one and how everyone banded together to help Retsuko. However, I wasn’t too fond of the art style. It’s very different from the rest of the art in these Aggretsuko graphic novels.

The Golf Between Us: 3 stars - I think this story had a good message toward the end, but I felt uncomfortable reading it due to the amount of sexism, toxic masculinity, and objectifying of women that was included in the story.

I literally finished Aggretsuko Season 4 only days ago and decided I needed more!! I love how sweet and agreeable Retsuko is, but when she’s annoyed or angry, she takes it to the Karaoke bar!

I have always been a huge fan of the Hello Kitty world and Red Pandas are my fave animals, so this is the match made specifically for me!!!

Worth the money.

Pretty good bonus for people who’ve seen all three seasons of the anime (as of this review). That said, the art for the Anai blackmail story is definitely on a lower tier than the Yoga Instructor and Golf Match stories, though the writing easily mitigates it (and we had it even worked in Fenneko’s legendary monotone laughter). Really great moment with Ton when his golfing idol presses the wrong buttons with him.

Aw man that was disappointing. At first I thought it was cool that the three different stories had three different art styles, but tbh I don't really love the art styles of #2 and #3. Similarly, the first story was decently entertaining, but the second isn't true to the characters at all and feels unnecessary while the third...I get what the third was trying to do with Ton's character (and the show already did it, and better) but the story just ended up contradicting itself.

I regret picking up this collection.

Another solid entry in the Aggretsuko comics, this time focusing on other characters besides our protagonist. They were interesting, especially the last one of the collection. Always recommended for fans of the series, and tentatively to those who are on the fence.

While the artwork is cute, and it eventually had positive messages, getting to the happy parts of the story was painful and left me more uncomfortable than entertained. If the other stories are like these, this wouldn't be a series I would want to continue.

This set of stories wasn't bad. The main character seems to work with a few toxic people and there are a few plots where they are very manipulative to her. This is was the third book in a series but it reads well on it's own.

short, the first two stories are sweet. the third one is ugh. just because Ton is a lesser asshole than Kin, doesn't make him a good or even an okay guy. bitchass

edit: I do want to point out my admiration for the drawings of the 2nd issue, though!

Fun, cute, nice filler while waiting for (maybe) more episodes.
