When Fate steps in and Fen and Sev cross paths, will they be able to make things work?

Fenwick Thompson isn’t like the other warlocks in the Amherst Coven. He’s not looking for his One. And he’s certainly not wanting to be a father. No, there are more than enough children running around the estate to drive him crazy. What he needs is a vacation. What does he get? His One in the form of the sexy vampire Sev.

Severino Rossi loves his life as a blackjack dealer on the Beloved Gem. His coven aboard the riverboat casino affords him the opportunity to meet new people, but when it comes to love, Sev knows it’s no use. Not until he meets his beloved. When he comes face-to-face with Fenwick, he’s completely unready for what it means to have found his beloved in the sexy warlock.

Unprepared for what fate has in store for them, Fen and Sev must figure out how to deal with a pregnancy they weren’t planning for while deciding which coven they’ll call home.

Fenwick is the fifth book in the Warlocks of Amherst series. Each book in the series focuses on a different couple but these books should be read in order as previous couples will make appearances in future books. This book is intended for adults only. This is a fated mate MPREG story with plenty of magical sexy times. You should expect all the normal vampire markings, but sometimes love bites in unexpected places.

I am of the belief that parenthood and pregnancy are very much a thing that shouldn't happen unless you actively want it. You shouldn't have a child if you're not down for it 100%. I found it genuinely upsetting that the two characters who actively didn't want children not only didn't have a plan b contraceptive way to stop the pregnancy from happening in the first place, but when it happen and they were both (understandably) upset, everyone else was like "babies are a gift" and "fate just chooses".
I know this is a kind of fiction book where everything is too perfect and no conflict actually happens, but they had parenthood pretty much forced upon them! In real life, the relationship could end in resentment and the kid would suffer. Being unwanted is painful for a child! Most parents in this situation do not do the magic "I live the kid now" switch that both Fenwick and Severino did.
There was a way to go from "no babies" to "yes babies" without forcing them with having no other choice! It had the potential to be interesting! This way feels just upsetting. And there's ways to have kids without pregnancy! Severino didn't have to go through that pain! They could've grappled with their feelings (I bet Fenwick has issues from being the third of 12 of a woman who kept having babies because she "just loves babies", and Severino of growing up parentless) and then decided they did want a kid and adopted one. But nooooo. He had to get pregnant, no matter how miserable it made them and how much it hurt their relationship.
I'm annoyed. I dislike this.

Good end to a fun series

I wasn’t captivated by either Fen or Sev. Both men seemed pretty selfish and most of the angst in this book resulted from each of them being too proud to actually talk with each other. I kept on expecting something to result from the call that Nikolai had to make to Italy, but that turned out to be a loose end in the plot.

Also, I know that it’s happened a lot, in these books, but if the baby has no way to get out, naturally, how does the water breaking ever make it out of the body? Wouldn’t it just break into the abdominal cavity? Or are the contractions designed to push the baby out through the bearer’s anus? If not, then what’s the point of the contractions?

Amherst conclusion

A great conclusion for our warlocks. I loved that Fen & Sev weren't an instalove matches. Made them seem more real.

Yes, there was an improvement (finally) but we're already in book 5... so... should it count?

Fenwick is a previously mentioned character and I was mildly interested in him (not his story tho) because he's aloof and not whining over getting his One and kid like the others. Instead, in his book he's obviously against having any children and wouldn't mind spending the next 100 years on his own... which RELATE. I don't particularly like children so I understand him.

Severino (interesting name) is a new character from a new group of paranormals, a vampire coven living in a boat. That sounds fun, I really wish the author would've gone more into his life there and as a card dealer but nope... once bagged and tagged he's taken to the warlock coven in Amherst. Besides the obvious chemistry with Fenwick they both have something else in common... THEY DON'T WANT KIDS. Severino is all up for getting his beloved but kids? Nope. Actually, it's such a nope that this is the main issue of the story.

I'm gonna define this book as a "slice of life", because while paranormal and romance and M/M describe very well the bones of it, the meat of the novel is all about these two character's lives together and as separate people. This time, it was developed well, their struggles to accept their unwanted pregnancy, to make their relationship work and work towards a future together where they can be themselves, be happy and belong. It was rather interesting to see this issue drag on instead of being "fixed" in less than a chapter, and even BETTER, how they had to really work on the relationship, not just use their emotional/mental link to see their partner's life and thoughts. As a result they feel more natural, real, their love came to be in a more realistic, healthy way. Even at the end, there's a nod to the fact that they're still battling with what they naturally dislike about having kids or being around them but accepting that it's their reality while loving the child they have together; it's truly the life of a lot of parents, cause you can love someone and still be incredibly annoyed by them to the point of not wanting another or wanting space away from them for a bit. Aside from those things, I didn't like how Fenwick tries to fix things at times, cause there's a lot of "I know better" or "it's a surprise" that in real life would provoke a fight or be part of a toxic relationship, even when all people involved love each other or when other characters meddled in the relationship, it felt like the author was trying to do a sort of "friendly push" or "wise older mentor advice" yet it came out more like they were meddling and giving unwanted/unwise advice. But, in general...

I... liked this book?

There were things I didn't like. Worldbuilding still sucks, dialogue still sucks, characters still... need work (insert vampire/sex joke here). But it didn't feel as bothersome since there was more to this time around and now I'm mildly interested in Nicolai's (head of the vampire coven) story, altho I might not end up reading it, or at least reading it in the near future. I have to say, I hope this is a trend and books from this one on get better and better. I can't really recommend the series or the author but at least this time there's more to my review than complaints and misery. I give Fenwick a 2.5 out of 5, a mayor improvement at entry number 5 but... better late than never?

Fenwick: Warlocks of Amherst Book 5 by Taylor Rylan is a story about opposites coming together with the help of the fates. Fenwick is a warlock and the computer tech for the Amherst Coven. He really enjoys the solitude of his job because he was brought up in a prickle (porcupine shifters!) of 11 siblings and their kids, too, which always seemed to be loud and chaotic when he was growing up and when he visits. Severino (Sev) is a vampire and a dealer on a vampire run casino river boat and is very social and loves the fun and often loud atmosphere of his job and friends. The Coven has had a lot of young kids born and they seem to be everywhere so Fenwick escapes to a vacation on the Beloved Gem where Sev works since there will be no children there. Fate brings them together on the first night of the cruise when Sev senses his Beloved and Fenwick his One. Both of them are very surprised as they are both young and neither one wanted to find their other until later in their lives. The story continues from there as they get to know one another, suffer ups and downs, and finally find the love the fates knew they would have. Add in the characters from the other Warlocks of Amherst books, new vampire friends from the Beloved Gem, Fenwick’s loving family, and at first an unwanted but then highly loved baby and you have a great read. One of the things I liked most about this book was that Fenwick had no knowledge of the life vampires led and Sev had never met a warlock. I was fascinated by the information Ms. Rylan gives as her version of the vampire world and it was also fun as Sev learned about warlocks. This is the last book in this series but a spin off series will start next about the vampires on the Beloved Gem. I can’t wait to read them because I enjoyed this book.

Warlocks and Vampires and babies

Oh, this book was so good. I loved getting to know Fenwick and Sev. Coming from entirely different backgrounds it was no surprise that their mating was a little ... problematic at first. One had been hoping to stay single for another century or two. One had been pining to find their Beloved. Neither wanted children and, that's exactly what Fate decided to give them. I really appreciated that this couple didn't really have the instalove that many of the other couples did. They had a lot of ups and downs, push and pull, and quite a few misunderstandings before they truly grew in love and their bond. It shows a very realistic side of relationships - that they take a lot of work, patience, and a true desire to make things work out. The coven on the river boat casino was a really nice change from the usual warlocks and shifters and brought a deeper definition to this world. I'm really looking forward to reading more about the vampires and can't wait to see them start to find their mates as well. This entire series has been an absolute joy to read - entertaining, poignant, funny, and occasionally frustrating when you just want to knock some sense into stubborn, clueless paranormals. 100% recommend all these books!

Amei!
. . Boa Leitura 😘

This is the fifth and final book in the series and what an engaging and enjoyable read it is.
Fenwick is a warlock and the IT specialist within his coven whilst Severino is a black Jack dealing vampire on a riverboat. Circumstances and the Fates bring these two together but even fated Ones/Beloveds have misunderstandings on the way to their HEA. Even though this likeable couple appear to be somewhat different, the Fates never get it wrong and of course the instant chemistry between them is off the charts. This leads to many steamy moments but the emotional connection between them takes that little bit longer.
This is a low angst easy read and a wonderful way to conclude the series. Characters from throughout the series make appearances and we are left with a glimpse of one of the characters who will feature in the first book of the new vampire series coming later in the year.

Miscommunications galore and making it work

While I love the story overall, it happens to contain one of my biggest pet peeves to an extent that it really bugged me; namely miscommunication and total lack of ANY communication for a while. Neither Fenwick or Severos are looking for their One/beloved and don’t react well which sets off a chain reaction making both characters irritating as heck when they find each other across a crowded casino. I did like when they finally got their acts together that both of them put in the effort to make things work. Adding vampires to the existing shifter-warlock-far mix makes for an interesting wrap-up to the warlock era of this world. The book also makes for a nice transition into the vampire coven and I can’t wait to read their stories.

Love at first....wait

Fen and Sev had a more true love story than most paranormal fated mates stories. I loved that for a change. It made the book more by showing both struggling with finding each other and becoming parents. Not to mention their obvious difference of vampire and warlock. I so love the humor of the Amherst gang. Their ability to help new couples find a way to happiness by showing their own love and teasing with humor is always fun especially with Miles around! The introduction to Sev's coven on the Beloved Gem was great and I can't wait to start on the new series letting us in on them finding their own beloved like Sev has. Getting the story of our new vampire friends Diego, Gio, Matteo and Master Nikolai is going to be as wonderful as reading about our warlocks!

This wasn't a bad book. But the others in the series were much better. Maybe it's because neither Fenwick nor Severino are very appealing at the story's start. They come across as whiny and selfish and both are hurtful in their careless comments to each other.
Yeah, I got it the first time, Sev is insecure. Did it have to be repeatedly stated? Over and over again. And, yeah, we get it. Fen likes silence. And abhors chaos. Much of which comes in the form of children.
But as the book progresses, they become more likeable. They learn better communication skills, but by the end they are still a work in progress.
This book is a bridge to another series. Perhaps Rylan was just anxious to get to that series. I know I am, so we can leave Fen and Sev alone to their own devices.

This is the fifth book in the : Warlocks of Amherst

What do I think of this book not my favorite the main couple were really decisive . But I can appreciate that this book was more realistic when it comes to this type of genre . I have absolutely no problem with the fact that Fenwick and Serverino didn't have that instant love like most of the characters in this series . But the constant wining and misunderstandings and insecurities where driving me nuts . I can honestly say that this couple was my least favorite I just didn't like them as much as th other couples . And it's not because they were not in love with each other when they meant no it was their personalities that did it for me . I couldn't connect with these two but this is still a very enjoyable series .

Miscommunicating between fated mates just seems weird to me when they can read each other's mind and feel each other's feelings. I get that they can block part of their bond, but for confusion and/or disgruntlement to be so frequent doesn't make a lot of sense. I understand them rubbing each other the wrong way before they claim each other, but afterwards when they have access to each other's memories and perspectives, they should have much better understanding between each other. And the forced pregnancy just irritates me. Neither of them wanted children. I was kind of looking forward to them actually being able to avoid it for a while and then maybe change their minds later not for the fates to just break their condoms and make them have a baby.

I can totally relate to needing my quiet time and the fact that Fen finds his One while on his away time is ironic.

The fact that both Sen and Fen were not looking for their One/Beloved was crazy, but their attitudes once discovering each other were kind of off putting. Then when Sen discovered the pregnancy and was so grouchy about it...not cool. I mean a lot of us have been there and to blame Fen... doubly not cool. But all’s well that ends well. They just had to do some growing together and Isabella is adorable!

I look forward to seeing how Diego and his Beloved meet as well as the rest of the crew on the Beloved Gem!

Another great addition to the series!

This was an interesting one for me as it took me quite a while to warm up to Sev. By the end I was totally team Sevwick and I actually think the book was better for the fact that these two had to work for their HEA (don’t get me wrong I like a zero angst story, but for these guys I think it worked better to have to put the effort in). Sev and Fen both struggled in the beginning and Fen wasn’t the greatest at expressing himself initially but I did think he got a hit of a rough ride. He took a lot on himself when the blame lay with both of them equally. He also got a bit harder a time from others in the coven (both his and Sev’s). It was good to see that Sev realised that and worked hard to show Fen he cared. Besides that, we got the usual loveliness you can expect from Taylor Rylan. We got to see all our favourites and there are some very interesting things to come!

While the characters are fated mates, they did have to overcome their own personal views on how they thought their lives would be. It is a low angst book. I will admit I did struggle with Sev’s character as he did drive me nuts for most of the book. I was happy to see them finally opening up to one another. It was great to see characters from past books and be introduced to characters we will see in the future. I cannot wait to see more of the new characters. Fantastic!! This was the final story in the Warlocks of Amherst story line and I’m going to seriously miss these guys. They kind of feel like family. I loved Fenwick and felt heart sick in the beginning. Severino was a little hard to warm up to. They both had difficulties and misgivings that they needed to work thru. They both struggled with any type of emotional connection. I seriously loved all the secondary characters in the story. I cannot wait for the vampires!! This was a fantastic conclusion to the story line. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.

Loved this story!

The Warlocks of Amherst series has been so much fun to read! I enjoyed Fenwick and Severino’s story so much!
I really enjoy fated mates stories and this one didn’t disappoint. This story shows that sometimes it takes work to bring a relationship together. Fenwick and Severino’s story is both a beautiful ending and a beautiful beginning. I look forward to more books from Taylor Rylan! This review is an honest and unbiased reflection of my thoughts after reading an advanced readers copy of the book.

What a bumpy start for these two. Fen and Sev had to work for their relationship. As annoying as that was at times, it made it more realistic. Just because they were fated didn’t mean they instantly loved each other. Instant lust, oh definitely. Did they like each other? Sure. But it took time to trust and fall in love.

I’ve been with this author from the beginning (Bears, Wolves, Warlocks), but let me tell you I’m a little excited about her next series, Beloved Gem. VAMPIRES!!! Omg, who in the heck is Diego’s beloved?!? Such a tease at the end.

Yeah... Just no... As much as I love the whole Warlocks of Amherst series and the two previous series, from the first couple of sentences this book didn't appeal to me.... I skipped between a few chapters to see if something would happen to make me like the characters/action of the book, but nope.... The few pages I skimmed over confirmed that the book will go on hold and probably stay there.... It's a shame, but I don't want to torture myself by reading something I know I won't find very interesting.

Fenwick and Sev... transitioning us to another new world...
Bears to wolves to warlocks to vampires.... Taylor Rylan has masterfully closed out the Amhurst chapter of our ongoing story and given us a peek into the next story world. This is a low angst story about love coming in unexpected times and places. Bonus: many of our Amhurst friends show up to help Fen and Sev transition from extreme batchlorhood to happily-ever-after.... don't miss this story. Not only does it give us one final visit in Amhurst -- It's our gateway to new friends on the Hidden Gem!

Amazing

I have read every book in this series and loved Fen and Sev’s story. I adore these books, Fens almost aloof attitude with his big heart just made him an amazing character. Sev was also a great character even if he was a little stubborn sometimes. The story was great and really well written. These books will be on my to buy in paperback list. I’m so sad this series has ended but I can’t wait to see what Taylor writes next.

I really loved this latest book in the Warlocks of Amherst series! Fen and Sev couldn’t be any different. Feb likes peace & quiet and Sev is a people person and loves to be around others. Complete opposites but fate always knows what it’s doing and despite the rough beginning they make things work. Loved every minute of their story and i highly recommend it to all. Can’t wait until the next book in this amazing series...well done!!!

I really enjoyed how it wasn't smooth sailing and how fated mates just don't magically fall in love. I liked the melding of magic and vampires and how protective and caring each coven was towards it's members. Sev and Fen had to work for their happiness and it made them stronger, neither expected or wanted each other but they came to love their differences. Magic, babies and love this was a great read with interesting characters and cheeky mates.

This has definitely not been one of my favorites in this series. I felt absolutely no connection between Fenwick and Severino. Their relationship started off rocky and really it didn’t get much better after that. The main problem was Severino. He drove me crazy throughout the book. I get he was anxious about being pregnant but he just kept on and on and I didn’t particularly like the way he took it out on Fenwick. Fenwick wasn’t much better. The only good thing about this book was the set up to the new series. I am looking forward to reading it in the future. This book however, was just okay for me.

A sweet, fun continuance to a series with 5 books out now and room for more. Not much angst, mostly insta-love. This series is best read in order; however, it appears there are other secondary characters from another series I am not familiar with but I will check that out next time I want to re-read this series as it would be good to know them but not necessary to read before this series - I'm just sure it would be entertaining as well.

3.5 stars. Over all the entire series is pretty much about the couple & babies with no real angst. This one kind of got on my nerves. I didn't like the fact that they were all about not having kids & then when Fenwick tried to make sure that it doesn't happen, the condom breaks, 3 times & Sev ends up pregnant. Then for a large part of the book he is all like I know nothing about kids and it was just so repetitive. Sev also was cold & pissed off at Fenwick that also got on my last nerve.

This is a paranormal mm romance with mpreg, the fifth book in a multi-series world, and it should be read in order! This book introduces us to the “Beloved Gem” world and series! Fenwick goes on vacation and meets his One/Beloved! Fenwick was the last person who wanted to meet his fated mate but when Fate intervened he opens his mind! A great book, so enjoyable on the rereading!
