Elliot Security #2

Bleeding Edge

Rate this book
"Run or fight, either way, I'm exactly where I need to be—beside you."

She's running scared.
I'll do anything to keep her.
Together we need to slay all her ghosts.

Emmie Franklin's the master of a quick escape. She's kept me at arm's length for years, fighting our attraction.
When a violent attack leaves her vulnerable, I step up, ready to fight tooth-and-nail to protect my woman.
Only Emmie has secrets. And these aren't the type that stay hidden.
They're the kind that kill.

If you love over the top Aussie alphas, sultry summer nights, and happily ever afters, Rough Edge is the book you're looking for.

Trigger warning: This is a darker book than my other series and contains some violence and references to sexual abuse. A happily ever after is still guaranteed, but this is a gritty series so proceeded with caution.

Note: This book was previously published under a former pen name. It has been rewritten and updated before release.

The writing is so frustratingly bad. It’s like someone taking 50 wrong turns and giving you three hours worth of senseless info to simply say: “Hey, let’s eat pizza.”

The same things are said on repeat over and over.

The dialogue and narrative is so confusing. Half the time, I can’t even tell who is talking. It’s jumbled. It shifts from subject to subject. A lot of hanging sentences. It’s tiresome reading - work to read.

At 75% and all the MMC has done to prove his absolute love for her, and she is still running, saying no, and even turning down his proposal. The FMC has had an f’d up life, but at some point, it’s shit or get off the pot. The MMC is so patient and tries to woo her, but it just feels like the romance here is one-sided. The FMC is so flat… again, I get the trauma, but I just don’t feel she’s ever invested in the MMC.

All the technical jargon lost me. It’s page after page after page of their work processes, and that’s just not interesting to me. If you like tech stuff… this may be a good book for you.

This is the second in a series, but can be read as a stand alone, and always HEA.

Emmie is a badass woman who has been through more than her fair share but keeps her head up and stands strong. Luc is the alpha hero who loves her but lets her be her. He supports and loves her, even when she doesn’t feel worthy of love herself. He is so patient, understanding and kind. Swoon worthy! When she realizes, “I didn’t need him. I wanted him. I chose him.” I nearly died! Luc planned dates that were so sweet and thoughtful, I had all the feelings! Love when broken characters find their missing pieces! One of my favorite character pairs!

SPOILER

Story of Emmie and Luc.... Emmie has secrets, a past life, a different name. We learn that she's running from a cult where she grew up and was taught to hack, assume identities, steal identities online and steal money. She's been discovered, so she has to figure out if she wants to stay and fight or run again.

I wanted more about the cult and a little less hanky panky scenes with Luc.

The crazy roll coaster ride that is Bleeding Edge will have you on the edge of of your seats. Luc and Emmie will take you on a ride that you’ve never experienced! With their back and forth. To the fact that she’s hiding some serious stuff. And just to the way Luc loves Emmie so fiercely, showing her what it’s like to have a love like that. It’ll leave you breathless and wanting more by the end of it all!

It takes a while…

It took a while for the story to build. We rehash a lot (too much in my opinion) of the first book from Emmie and Luc’s perspective. When we finally do get to parts of the story about the couple and what happened in Emmie’s past, those parts are good. However, there is all this metadata in between about their cases, hacking, and the big bad she’s running from that just was boring and went on way too long. Luc and Emmie together are enjoyable, I just know this book could have shaved off at least 100 pages and had a five star story.

a good mixed bag

So I loveeed how this story ended.
But I wish the author had taken a different route to tie in the previous book it seemed very repetitive especially if you are a back to back to back book reader. (Maybe read this a week after you finish the previous book)

I loved Emimme her story was quite interesting and how she gained her skills was super neat. Her flash backs were some of my favorite parts of the book
Luc was a very likable character and it was nice to have an alpha-ish character that was soft and musically talented ect I will say I wish he had talked more about how he healed his trauma he was just a pinch to perfect for me. But his take it slow approach was so damn cute.

Spice: I could have used a little less quickie-ish s*x scenes and enjoyed a couple longer more detailed scenes

All of that is a bit nitpick-y still highly recommend 4 stars love!

Book 2 in the Elliott Security series did not disappoint. I could not put this down. It centres around the relationship between Emmie and Luc. You really want it to work and can see it develop slowly. They develop a close bond and have hot sex. However, Emmie has a past that no one knows about. This dark past has caught up with her and it’s a race to survive and have the life she deserves. The characters are all brilliantly written. I also love the way that Evie’s female characters are no nonsense woman who don’t back down. Highly recommended.

Book 2 in the series and yet again not disappointed!
First of Luc is suchhh a badass but Emmie is a badasss as well, so this book might be my favorite.
The bond they develop is amazing, but Emmie keeps something about her past hidden. She didn’t want to get want to get close so anybody, but Luc refused to let her go. When trouble comes- she wants to run and do everything on her own. But Luc and their friends have her back.
Don’t forget allll the steaminess is included in this!

I typically love Evie Mitchell's writing style, but there was something about this book that I didn't love. There was a lot of unnecessary elements in this story and I felt like it was dragged out a little. There is a camaraderie between the friends, but we didn't get enough of them. I wanted more of their relationships outside of work and outside of the chaos of events.

loved it!

I really loved this book, the FL is so strong so vulnerable and so kick ass I couldn’t stop reading. All in one go and I would probably come back to re-read this.
I enjoyed the plot, the smuttyness the love but mainly the FL who just rocked and kept going like the Viking woman she is.

It reminded me of another favourite book of mine, of perseverance and revenge in the best kind of ways. I had a bit more higher expectations for Luc but he was very romantic and loyal from the get go!

Good book. If you read the first one in the series, you will find the beginning a bit of a recap from that book, so you might skim. I enjoyed the plot and thought it was a well done version of the “cult survivor/escapee” line.

I enjoyed reading this enthralling book by Evie. I was excited for Luc and Emmie’s story and it didn’t disappoint. I was hooked from the first page and I couldn’t put it down wanting to know what was going to happen next. This was a great read and I look forward to reading more from this series.

I love Evie’s book, but this was too dark for me. I skipped the middle and read the HEA.
