This is part of an ongoing series by Amazon best-selling author Mary Rundle, and catching up on previous titles is advised. Listeners of the past books will enjoy meeting old friends once more as the pack does what it does best - caring for one another and helping shifters everywhere.
Kieran was sold into slavery where he was forced to care for other prisoners held by a shifter trafficking ring. But that changed when a Blackwood brother freed him and the others. Now for the first time in his life, the world beckons, and he can plan his future. That is, until he discovers why the Fates brought him to the Blackwood Pack.
Logan, one of the brothers, has become a virtual recluse, spending hours at his design table, unable to shake the horrible memories of his family's massacre and an unhappy childhood under the fist of his father, a dictatorial and abusive Alpha.
When Kieran appears, Logan is smitten with this pink-loving twink who tries to use his sassy and irrepressible wit to win his heart. After Logan claims Kieran, he finds keeping him is not easy. When both realize Logan can't give himself completely to his Fated Mate, Kieran takes off but tells no one where.
A frantic search, rejection, dark secrets revealed, ghosts exorcised - these are just some of the obstacles Kieran and Logan must overcome as they embark on a mission of discovery that will make their love for each other stronger. Only then will these two unique wolves fulfill their destinies decreed by the Fates and gods and prove worthy of the powerful gifts bestowed on them.
A few years ago, I wrote my first book, Dire Warning. Readers loved it and I was on my way to chronicle the Blackwood Pack, seven brothers who are gay wolf shifters in search of their fated mates—stories about love at first sight with twists and turns, angst and humor, romance and adventure and, of course, happy endings. Since then, the pack has expanded, allowing more stories to be told and different paranormals to be included. The series has become, as one reader described it…an “Epic Saga.” Now, twelve books later, Lord Manetu has just been published. I love the M/M paranormal genre because it gives my imagination a lot of territory in which to roam. My mind can really run wild and come up with some amazing stuff when it doesn’t have to stay inside the box. My story ideas come to me as if they were being channeled by my characters, all of whom I love (except for a few villains). They are eager to recount their lives, loves and adventures, and are not reluctant to let it all out when it comes to revealing steamy details. My writing style is free-wheeling and uninhibited and my readers tell me they love it that way; that it makes them feel like they’re right in on the action and a member of the Blackwood Pack. I live in the Northeast and love the beautiful change of seasons, my husband, and our quirky calico cat, though not necessarily in that order. I read a lot (good for the mind) and love gardening (good for the soul). And I’m always happy to hear from my readers and can be reached through Facebook, my private Facebook Group, Twitter, Instagram, or my website.
Yeah, here be Dragons. Finally dragons. Oh Slate is up to bat. I knew it. Yes, yes! I could have read the blurb. What's the fun in that. When you are reading a 12 book series. Also you are late to the show. So, all 12 books have been released. What's a Maiden to do😜
Kieran has known what it's like to be rejected over and over in his life. The only time he's known love is from his two best friends. Now saved from his previous evil alpha Kieran and his best friends have a new home with the Blackwood Pack who rescued them from their hell.
Logan has thus far been the quiet and mysterious brother. He doesn't say much and is mostly in the background. So I was excited when it came time for his book. Logan has a wall up since the murder of his parents and entire pack. He keeps busy to keep his mind off his loss and the fact that he'll probably never have a fated mate. When he sees Kieran for the first time he knows he wants him, but Kieran has no scent so he doesn't think they're fated mates.
I enjoyed the book, however around 75% I started skipping ahead. It just suddenly seemed to be moving very slow and I'm getting very frustrated with the fact that the whole situation between the brothers and their Uncle is taking far to long to end. It's like every book only has maybe 1-3 pages total are about that instead of giving us leaps ahead in it or finally ending that storyline and moving on to a new villain in their lives. Considering this is only book four and so far there are 10 books in the series and each book is 7-8 hours worth of reading I don't know that I'll have the patience to finish out the series with roughly 48 more hours of reading until the end. That truly frustrates me. Given all the new bad guys the author comes up with in each new book I know it's not that she can't think of a new villain. She's great at that. So why do we only get bits and pieces of the background storyline moving forward each book?? :(
As with all the books in this series while most of it is in the mc's POV (Kieran and Logan in this case) the rest is in the POV of any other character in the book from the remaining brothers to other family to the evil uncle. The angst level is medium.
Great MC's and an awesome development in the overall story
I absolutely loved Kieran and Logan as mates! - the irrepressible matched with the most stoic of the Blackwood brothers.
The overall story is starting to feel a little unwieldy and I'll be interested to see how things will be kept in control as the series progresses. For example, while I can understand keeping everyone's gifts secret from the wider world, keeping them secret from the brothers and their mates seems to be causing issues and isolating members of the pack. I would think that it would make a stronger case if the core members of the pack (i.e. the brothers and their mates) were all fully aware of everyone's powers and were able to support and protect one another as a strong, united, inner council to the growing Blackwood pack.
The author really stepped up in the last book but this was amazing. The multi-pov flows really well, the characters are developed and full of layers, the plot is fantastic... I could go on. Crazy CRAZY excited for the next in this series.
Kieran and Logan are sweet together. Really though, Kieran steals the show. His backstory is so sad but he is just the bubbliest and sweetest guy ever. The whole deal with him and the color pink kinda changed me in a weird way. I certainly enjoy it more in general and since I work nights I look for that sunrise whenever I get the chance. THAT is what you want in a book. When it makes you think. Lots and lots of stars!
Totally another excellent book to this new series. Even though this book was about Kieran and Logan you still get to see loads of the brothers and pack mates.. It was extremely well written and the love and support Kieran and Logan show each other when dealing with the pain went through as a children was exquisite can't wait to see how the next pair come together.well done Mary
I am never good at leaving a review but just need to say this series is one of the best I have ever read. The way Mary writes is like none other i have ever read. I love how even though you know who the MCs are you have the POV of pretty much h all the characters at once. I cannot wait for the next book!!!!
2 heartbreaking stories, trying to overcome the past
Keiran and Logan are young men with different tragic pasts. They are fated mates but the difficulties lie with overcoming their pasts so that they can have a future together. I think I was in tears half the time from their pain and how very strong they both were. Every time I read the next book in this series I think that the next book couldn’t be better than the last and every time I’m wrong! Mary Rundle, you’re a fabulous writer and I’m glad I took a chance on your first book!
Rundle has a talent for storytelling. Her style is enjoyable, her story lines have , sadly, diverged from anything that I wish to read. Happily ever after doesn't need to drag me through some of this pain and suffering. Characters are too old for "teen angst" and a 21 year old with the emotional maturity of a 13 year old isn't worth my time or effort to read. I think her work is worth checking on to see if I'd enjoy further works but I'm letting go of the Blackwood pack before it self distructs.
I cannot say enough about this story. Without spoiling anything I think this is my favorite of the series so far. All that poor Kieran went through and then getting Logan's past into the open. I was crying so much halfway through I had to stop for a few. This is best read as part of the series so as to completely understand the happenings. The editing in this one is like a thousand times better than the previous books.
With each new book in this series, I fall just a little bit more in love. With the brothers I love how there mates are just what they need. I'm also amazed that the brothers also managed to keep things from each other so well. With each brother getting a gift from the fates have me on edge, trying to figure out what it is. I can't wait for the next book because I see trouble ahead.
Another great book! They just keep getting better and better. I've just finished reading all 4 books in this series back to back. Now I get to wait for the next book to come out. Bummer! I can't say enough about this author and her style of writing. It's unique, awesome and just plain wonderful. Story lines are wow, you have to read the series to understand what I'm talking about. Keep these books coming, they are so refreshing.
We are getting more pieces of the puzzle as the lack grows both in size and strength. Though I suspected some things, the who I wasn't sure of. The next book pairing was one I wasn't sure who would be the brother for him. I can't wait to see how Cody and Dylon's home for boys will fill up.
I've read the entire series so far and loveit. The best is the never ending story. The ratings are a sub story to a greater story. You should read them all to see what I mean. Another great thing is its hard to pick a favorite couple. They are all awesome. Looking forward to book #5.
Mary Rundle really onows how to draw you into her world, keep you guessing, and asking whats gonna happen next. I loved how sassy Kieran was and the love between him and Logan was beautiful. This world Rundle has created is fascinating and always leavea you impatiently anticipating the next book. I absolutely cannot wait for Slate and Dakotas story.
OMG.......I love this book. Well written with kick ass characters. I love this series. I already know I will be reading this one again and again. I am so looking forward to what comes next. I can't wait until she writes the next one. Awesome.
What a very good book! I cried when Oracle told Kieran about where he originally came from. Boy was he shocked! Anyway, Mary I absolutely loved that book. And I will wait anxiously for the next!
afreakinmazing!! omg.. i loved loved loved this.. it was perfect and wonderful and sexy and i cannot wait for the next one.. and the one after that and after that and it needs to keep going and going haha.. i loved it
Kieran was absolutely fabulous and perfect for Logan. I can't wait to see how the brothers finally deal with their uncle, I'm getting a bit impatient to see him get what he deserves.
Logan and Kiernan were awesome together!! But, I especially love Kiernan's sassy mouth, lol!! He was hilarious! This series just gets better and better!! Can't wait for Dakota's story next!!
Before I begin, I want to thank the author and Queer Romance Ink for the ARC of this audiobook.
This Audiobook Shifter Series by Mary Rundle is narrated by the extraordinarily talented Nick Russo and the recipe of story and storyteller are like a decadent dessert for your eardrums… IF your eardrums had taste buds. But we’ll leave that sort of storyline for the sci-fi authors. *wink *wink.
“Ice Soul,” is book four in the Blackwood Pack Series and picks up a few weeks after book three. In this book, one of the brothers realizes he has a mate from one of those in the group that was rescued in book three. He both loves and fears this because of past trauma that could end his potential relationship before it even has a chance to start.
I absolutely love Logan in this story. Everyone knows him as the “brooding old man,” even though he is the twin to the pack’s Alpha. Logan loves his family but has trouble expressing himself, and keeps his heart closed from everyone because of the abuse he suffered that even his siblings know nothing about. Keeping these secrets for so long has taken a toll on Logan and it is going to take someone with a very strong SPIRIT to melt the ice from his soul. Enter, Kieran…
This story takes you on a whirlwind adventure and is more than just a wolf shifter romance. The Emerald Isle, Loch Ness, Golden Dragons, mages, and the promise of more matings on the horizon for the Blackwood Pack make this my favorite book YET!
If you enjoy Gay Romance, Shifter Romance, Romance that includes Heart, Heat, & Hearth, and Romance Series that is a continuing saga, you should give the Blackwood Series a try. I highly recommend the audiobooks! 💜
The Story: 5.00 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Narration: 5.00 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Overall: 5.00 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the at he kids' series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or 'Liberty' from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey’s books) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times a year (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok). It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
I often wonder what meaning a book’s title has. Where the term “Ice Soul” comes from is revealed about half way through the book and it is very fitting indeed.
Because the blurb is so detailed, I really recommend you read it. The story was captivating and really held my attention. Kieran and Logan are really great together and the secrets revealed about each of them just about broke my heart.
Kieran has a really great outlook on life and he was so exuberant in places I couldn’t help but love him. Kieran’s favorite color is pink and I loved his description of the sunrise and how he’ll never take one for granted again.
Nick J. Russo does another excellent job with this audiobook. His voices for each of the many characters are distinctive and easy to understand. We get to hear Nick sing a bit in this book!
I’ve got the next audiobook in this series, Shadow Voice, queued up and ready to listen to and I’m really looking forward to it. If you can’t wait for the next one to come out as an audiobook, books 1-10 are available to read now in Kindle Unlimited.
A copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
After reading the last book, I was excited to get to know Kieran more and the author did not disappoint. We see him in all of his outspoken and sassy glory. His character has a lot more depth than I originally expected, because he is also incredibly sweet and genuine. You cannot help but like his him.
I felt like the first half of this book had more outside POVs than main character POVs. Once we got to about midway through, that switched, and we get to see more of Logan and Kieran together and building their relationship.
We still have the impending conflict with the uncle that we have seen in all of the other books. I personally like this storyline and am ready for them to basically kick Josiah's wolf butt. We also discover new things about the pack that makes me want more!

This is the fourth book in The (Blackwood Pack Series)
This was a good read although I'm not feeling the fates at times I just think that they put some of not all of these couples through to much . So who annoyed me this time defiantly Dylon with his over the top reactions to Logan because if I was Logan I would have been all up in his toe to toe . Cody for his lack of support for his brother you would think that he would know Logan better than he acts In definitely annoyed me Theo and Norman OMG 😲 so worked my nerves . I get that they are Super loyal to Ki but dang I wanted to smack them and Ki for the dumb shot he pulled on Logan and don't let me start on Steel I get that solves are driven to protect their mate's and young but really . Right now the only brother's I'm feeling is Zane, Dakota and Logan Jackson is alright but he can be a bit much too . Anyway can't wait to read about Dakota and his mate Slate hope I like Slate more than his brother .
I loved the first two books and the only reason I didn't like the third that much was because of the BDSM... But I'm hating this book... I can't stand Kieran, every thought, action and word from him that I read just make me roll my eyes, and I understand he went through a lot but the way he treats everyone is awful, I think he needs professional help to sort through all that's happened, he went through something that could break someone so healing should be his number one priority, lashing out to everyone else is not the way, and what's worse is that the others defend him... I can't keep on reading.
Logan has waited to find his fated mate and was beginning to give up hope. He is the brother that supported each of the others even when he was hurting and hiding it. I love Logan’s strength and loyalty and his fierceness at the protection of his family.
Kieran is a sweet, sassy, ball of cuteness. He has had such a hard life the last few years but he hasn’t let that keep him from what he wants in life. Caring for his friends and learning how to continue forward is all he wants
Each man in this series has such a vital part to play in the survival and protection and happiness of the rest of the pack that when it comes down to it Love is Love and it is too precious to throw away.
