J.K. Rowling: Author of Harry Potter by Karen Leigh Harmin is a biography of the life of the children’s book writer Joanne Rowling. The age group this book is intended for is intermediate to advance. The book describes Rowlings life struggles with poverty and indecision to the ups and downs of fame and fortune.
I really liked the book. It started with an introduction describing how Rowling’s dreams of being a writer came true and her life changed so quickly, and then, went on to tell her life story as she grew, learned, and pursued writing. I like how the book uses actual pictures of the writer, as well as the places she has visited or lived; it personalized the book and put a face to the name. I wasn’t found of the side notes; it was like reading a magazine. It just took a sentence from the page and made it bold on the side. I think this would be a good book for young readers because J.K. Rowling is a remarkable woman, not only did she create Harry Potter, but she gave back to many charities. She remembered her struggles prior to Harry Potter and she was very generous with her time and money.

Interesting that she started with nothing and sorta speech hit the lotto. Makes one think, you can make something out of your life even when you are at the bottom.
