H3RO #4

Idol Threats

Rate this book
Some secrets should stay buried. Others need to be exorcised.

Managing a K-pop group was far easier than running an entertainment enterprise. However, with H3RO in the middle of their comeback, throwing myself into work is a necessary distraction from days spent missing the thrill of their touch.

The company Halloween party is coming up and I need to make sure it’s the event of the century. Unfortunately, even from his exile, my demon-spawn half-brother has found ways to sabotage all my efforts.

But the Halloween horrors don’t stop there.

A ghost from Kyun’s past has crawled out of the woodwork, threatening all the band has worked for. Telling Kyun seems the right thing to do, but Tae warns this is one secret that should be buried deep.

During the time of year of ghosts and goblins, I’m beginning to think both would be safer options than family.

** IDOL THREATS is a full-length, slow-burn Reverse Harem novel. There are steamy scenes and super-hot Korean idols. This is the fourth book in this series but is also the first book in the next story arc. You don't have to have read the previous books to enjoy this one, but you might as well! This book ends on a cliff-hanger. *

Great Story! I’ve been waiting for this story for so long, I won’t spoil anything in this story.
But, Oh my goodness(!!!)...that ending..Duuuude! I need to know what’s going to happen!

Can I just say that when I opened this book, and keep in mind it’s been a long time since I’ve read Holly’s books, that when I opened this book and started reading it was like you walked into your favorite Universe and everyone is there to welcome you back.
I thought I had forgotten what their names were and who was who, and that I’d have to start from Book 1 again, but I immediately remembered everyone again.
That was so refreshing, I was able to fully immerse myself right back into the series, like I’ve never left.
That shows you right there, how to write a good series.

This is book four of the series, and before I start with my thoughts, let's jump in as we always do.

POV: First person
POV Character: Holly Lee
Verb Tense: Past
Trigger Warnings: blackmail, mentions of past abuse/alcoholism
Spice Level: Decently high, several explicit scenes
Content Warning: reverse harem

Clearly the first set of books was intended to end as a trilogy, and I understand why there's a bit of a time skip that comes into play here. That said, this book starts with an unnamed time skip. I'm not sure how long has passed between book 3 and 4, but it's enough time for some significant changes to have taken place and left me feeling like I'd missed quite a lot.

For example, we come into the story learning Holly's friend Kate, who we met in the first book, is pregnant and apparently pregnant after having also gotten into her own little relationship with the members of another of Atlantis Entertainment's boy bands, Onyx. That was a shock, and there's little information about it given in the book. And then there's the fact Holly's bought herself what amounts to a mansion for herself and her H3RO boys.

But since I don't have a frame of reference for how much time has passed, I'm left to wonder how long the time has been between the books.

The story launches us into Holly's life as a chairwoman for Atlantis Entertainment. She's no longer managing H3RO and is instead trying to manage the entirety of the company's groups, which leaves her busier than ever. H3RO is just winding down a promotional period, so they've all been separated for a while, and Holly misses her boys and can't wait to get them all back home.

So this book definitely still has some crazy, intense, wild plot going on. Kyun's father shows up out of the blue and apparently has changed from Kyun's childhood memories, having gotten sober. He wants to get to know his son and become part of his life again, but Tae wants Holly to keep the news from Kyun because he doesn't trust Kyun's father in the slightest.

And while Holly's navigating this, she's also been told that the usual company responsible for the party planning for the company's Halloween party has suddenly canceled their work. It's quite sudden, and apparently even still Lee Sejin is messing around with Holly, even from Shanghai, having done everything in his power to make sure the Halloween party plans are completely destroyed.

So, of course, Holly rises to the challenge and walks straight into her father's taunt and gets saddled with the task of tackling the Halloween party on top of all her other responsibilities.

I think this story had the relationship with her boys take a bit of a backseat to the rest of the plot, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I also suspect it must be difficult to write a short and sweet installment in a reverse harem story that gives enough time to developing all the different relationships with the various love interests. I felt this one left some of the guys like Jun and Nate on the sidelines a bit more, and that's fine. It would have been interesting if each book was a bit longer to show off more of the love interests and give some scenes between Holly and each of them, but this is also fine.

The story was decent with some of the same crazy twists I've come to expect in this series, and I'm interested to see how book 5 takes the final cliffhanger and turns it into the plot. I can't wait for Holly to eventually get her comeuppance against Lee Sejin, but it might have to wait for book 6.

Proceed With Caution:

This book contains violence, blood, blackmail, and implied coercion.

The Basics:

Idol Threats is narrated by Holly Lee, newly appointed Vice Chairwoman of Atlantis Entertainment and ex-manager of K-Pop sensation H3RO. She's also their girlfriend. Yes, all six of them. This is the fourth book in the series, so I'd recommend reading the previous three. They're fantastic anyway. But this one does start a new plot thread for our MCs.

My Thoughts:

I am so happy to have more H3RO (the series and the group)! Idol Threats starts with Holly throwing herself into her new position while her boys are out on promotion. Her latest task is to plan the company's annual Halloween bash, but her evil half-brother seems to be sabotaging her at every turn despite being exiled to Shanghai. Holly isn't going to let him get to her though, and she has her six amazing boyfriends to help her out! I do wish the Halloween party had been a bigger part of the story, but I definitely understand why it wasn't.

Much of Idol Threats focuses on Kyun. He's got an unexpected visitor from his past who has been trying to get his attention. Holly wants Kyun to be safe and happy but she's also not going to keep this from him and wants him to make his own decision. Of course, based on the title, I'm sure you guess how that goes! I felt so bad for Kyun and I know this isn't going to be the last we see of this person.

The other main plot of Idol Threats was Holly's relationship with Minhyuk. He's the only guy she hasn't had sex with yet, as he was a virgin before they all fell in love. There are plenty of adorable scenes of him trying to make things absolutely perfect for their first time, but living with five other guys? That doesn't exactly scream privacy. Also, whose first time is ever perfect?! Minhyuk needs to relax!

Idol Threats was just another fun addition to the series. I loved being back with the boys of H3RO and can't wait to see where this new storyline goes!

Idol Threats continues the story of Holly and the K-Pop band she (previously) managed. It’s the original pairing before the Onyx series, so it was nice to revisit the crew.

Idol Threats felt a little bit like a filler book. The men are continuing to promote their band H3RO while Holly is working hard as the Vice Chairwoman and they seem to see each other so little. When someone from Kyun’s past shows up, the group bands together to support him, just like the family they’ve created.

Holly and Minhyuk’s relationship deepens in a sweet and adorable way. Don’t forget the rest of the men, they are all here!

But it felt like it didn’t have a true ending and that it was waiting for more. Regardless, it was a fun and shorter read that revisited my favorite K-Pop group and I can’t wait for more.

Kyun's character sees a lot of growth in this one as he deals with his past. I love how fiercely protective Tae is with him, like brothers. Minhyuk is adorable, and his first time with Holly was cute. It was great to see it portrayed realistically too. Jun and Dante are still their flamboyant, rowdy selves. Nate kinda took a backseat in this one, but he's still as sweet as ever to make sure Holly cares for herself properly. We found out a doozy at the end, so I'm anxious to see where that leads.

I love this series, and I was actually quite suprised with the fourth books arrival! But I am very glad it arrived! It was brilliant! Holly and H3RO are doing a fab job of keeping their relationships a secret all while getting to know each other better and battling new surprises and threats, hence the title! I can't wait for the next book, which better be soon because damn if that ending didn't Hook me!!!!

And I need more sexy time!! My poor Tae and Jun didn't even get a look in this book...

While it was good to see Holly and H3RO again, this was honestly half a book. The only plot that got any resolution was Kyun's father being run out of the country. At the very least, Holly and Minhyuk should have had round 2 to tie up that subplot.

Another great addition to the series! I love it when Holly and the guys are together. The banter is the best. This time, we got more about Holly and her new role as vice chairwoman. Kyun and Minhyuk git more focus this time. I hope the final two are spicier.

Not as strong as the others in the series, but still really good.

There's family drama, and industry drama, and relationship drama. And it's all done really well.

Still a fun read, but the chemistry was really lacking. The predominant story lines didn't really interest me, and it felt like there was a lot less steam than previous books.
