I witnessed something that I shouldn’t have. Something so terrible that it plagues my nightmares.
I know that if I tell someone about it, my life will be in danger, so my plan is to keep my head down and hope the whole thing blows over.
But the more times passes, the more I’m sure someone’s watching me and following my every step. And then I find proof that my stalker is real and not a figment of my tortured imagination.
His name is Nero Tirelli, and he’s the son of a notorious mafia boss.
Even though his father is set on killing me, Nero has a proposition for me. He wants me to marry him in exchange for his protection.
His darkness and his obsession with me terrify me, but his mysteriousness intrigues me and his magnetism makes me crave him more than anything else.
I may be safe from his father.
But my heart isn’t safe from him.
A standalone mafia romance. Mature language and content.

Me: 🗿🗿🗿
But let's shift our focus from the drama that is my relationship with everything that represents this book to simply discussing its incomparable, unique and mind-blowing plot, shall we?
Gotta admit that reading this book straight after indulging my few functioning brain cells with Dreiser's and Dostoyevsky's works hasn't been the brightest idea of mine. 💀
Right off the bat the potential of this book was shining in neon signs over my mobile. My brain just couldn't cope with the brilliant logic of the narrative.
📍Why does granny send her granddaughter to a̶ s̶l̶a̶u̶g̶h̶t̶e̶r̶ visit the grandfather's grave at the cemetery late in the evening knowing that their district is unsafe cuz mafia does its dirty business there?? (but let's be real, even if it was "safe", how much love can an old woman spare....) 😭 Is this a fairy tale of Red Riding Hood where the wolf disguises itself as a girl's sweet and kind granny? 📍Why do mafia men murder drug dealers at the cemetery? Don't they have decent basements in their luxurious mansions? 📍Why does a girl who witnessed a murder choose to run to her deserted (lol) place of work when she knows that a creepy made man follows her to certainly NOT have a nice convo with her?
I had so many more questions and I got so very few answers...
Sometimes I wish I was just as clueless as some heroines of the novels I've read. Life seems so much simpler through their unadulterated eyes.
I truly believe I've read about a match made in heaven. Can you imagine??? Nothing had interested the man so much in a while as watching her putting bread into a toaster. 🍞 Or washing the floors. 📺 Nero, my sweet boy, what kind of a boring lifestyle do you lead to be fascinated by this? You didn't need to marry the chick to experience the beauty of someone cleaning the house. To hire a housemaid would suffice.
Anyways, I need to be more romantic. This must be love...
Endearing as it is probably supposed to be, I was bored out of my mind reading about Victoria playing a housekeeper. Nero and Victoria with their mundane lives and not so engaging thought processes were so tedious.
¿¿The potential though?? “Meet me at the bar across the street when your shift ends,” he whispered, sending a shiver through me. “If you don’t, I’m going to kill your whole family.” ... Wasted. After. Their. Irrelevant. Marriage🤚
“I have another offer for you,” he said, helping me up to my feet. “Suck my cock, and I’ll pay your family double. They’ll receive an extra right away, just in time for your sister’s school trip.”
I'm not the one to slut-shame but the girl's enthusiasm to provide for her family outmatched my every expectation. 👀😶 And don't even get me started on the level of the guy's desperation to get laid. When I said that I love manipulative and unscrupulous af anti-heroes I didn't have THAT in mind. Lol. But who cares.
Also she let him paint her pussy (lmaooo😭😭) not a few days after their second meeting and marriage of convenience, both of which took place at the same time. 👉👈
If you're interested in the masterpiece's fate, our Picasso hung the painting in his room and I was trying so damn hard to not die from laughter. 😭🤗
And my favourite aspects: - simplistic writing; - farcical cardboard characters; - joke of a plot; - novelty is the word?? ; - epic eye-roll inducing scenes that messed with the last shreds of my already slipping sanity.
1.5 stars because the story has a comedy value. 🗿Sometimes I am in the mood to mock laugh at low-budget horror films that so often feature grotesquely, unrealistically silly people being chased by a serial killer. I giggle at all the wrong moments and get occasional sideways glance from the people around. Guess that was the case with this book.
STORY: I truly enjoyed this storyline. I read it in one sitting. It’s not actually Dark but still has its moments. Victoria’s and Nero’s story beginnings by her seeing a murder. Nero finds her and starts stalking her. When Nero’s father is forcing him to get rid of her because she was a witness to a crime, Nero decided instead to marry her. Sounds like Nero is this awesome guy right because he is marrying this woman to save her, right? Let’s just say during the first part of the marriage Nero was a manipulative a**hole. He took emotional blackmail to another level. With that being said, he redeems himself in my eyes because when I got to that last page, I fell in love with him. Victoria was down on her luck, bills piling up and the icing on the cake, witnessing a murder and force into a marriage to save her family. I like her character. She is coy but had a little tiny bit of fire to her.
Both Victoria and Nero gave me a good read and found myself really liking this story. This was my first book by the author and would read more of her work.
CHEMISTRY: Sexually, I am on the fence with Victoria and Nero. Their sexual chemistry wasn’t bad, but the first couple of times, I wanted a bit more than just a page. No, it’s not an erotica read, but I wanted and felt that it could have been more. This did not take away my enjoyment of the story though.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: Layla - Victoria’s sister. I selfishly want her to have her own story.
Lucas - he needs a vasectomy.
OVERALL, a fast pace read that I enjoyed with a storyline and theme I enjoy as well.
✰✰TRIGGERS: I wouldn’t say there are any hardcore triggers, but one might be offended by Nero’s treatment and or manipulation towards Victoria in the beginning.
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

🔳Nero Torelli-Late 20s-
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥳🥳🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😱😱😱😱😱😱😛😛😛😛😛😛😛🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍HE FUCKING PAINTS IN HIS FREE TIME, HE IS A PAIIIIINNNNNNNTEEEEEERRRRRR😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😛😛😛😛😛😱🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😱😱😱😱. Mobster. Cold-Hearted. Killer. Wine Connoisseur Sexy-as-sin. Warmth in those cold eyes.
OTT OBSESSED H. VERY OTT OBSESSED. VERY VERY VERY OTT OBSESSED H. SINCE HE IS A PAINTER*gasp* HE PAINTED hs PUSSY AND HUNG THE PAINTING OVER HIS BED. HE MADE MANY SKETCHES OF h. KEPT AN EYE ON HER. MADE HER COME LIKE A PORN STAR. HE WAS ROUGH BECAUSE HE SPANKED. BUT SHE LIKED IT SOOOOOOO MUCH.
🥳🥳🥳BUT HE WAS ALSO VERY RESPECTFUL OF HER-
“Would you really go to war over that insignificant piece of ass?” Surprise laced my father's voice. “She’s my wife, so yes. I won’t let anyone disrespect her, not even you.”
🔵THE PLOT--
💎Victoria witnesses a crime lord , Nero, murdering a man in a cemetry at night.
💎Nero sees this and intends to kill her.
💎But realises that since, his father , Fabio Torelli is forcing him to marry a rival family's(The Rossi's) daughter(to obviously form a powerful alliance), which he does not want to do, he shud marry Victoria to get his father off his back.
💎This was he can keep Victoria with him (Because when he saw her, he was obviously attracted to her)and make sure that she keeps her mouth shut and this will get his father off his back.
💎Since Victoria is broke and has to take care of her nana and her younger sister, Layla. Nero proposes that if she marries him and he will let her family live. He also promised that since after marriage, Victoria will no longer be working as a waitress, Nero will take care of her family financially, and will provide all the medical and all other help to Nana and Laylah.
💎Now, i won't elaborate much because after marriage, the book is all about The Rossis trying to break them apart, some mildly shocking and some REALLY shocking revealtaions, and the pace with which both fell in love with each other.
🔵My Thoughts-
💎First of all, if you want a twisted ,deep, dark mafia romance , THIS is not the book for you. It IS dark, but not THAT dark .
Yeah there's killing. Yeah there's murders. Yeah there's kidnapping. Yeah there's talk dark and dirty talking mob boss. Yeah there's strong and sassy h with a warm heart. Yeah there's deception. Yeah there's talks of arrange marriages. Yeah there's loyalty.
🤸♂️But it's NOT dark.
1️⃣NERO-
✅In the beginning Nero-
“Meet me at the bar across the street when your shift ends,” he whispered, sending a shiver through me. “If you don’t, I’m going to kill your whole family.”
✅In the middle Nero-
There really was something special about seeing her smile. I didn’t know what it was, so my goal was to make her smile today as much as possible and maybe figure it out.
✅Nearing the end-
“You thought what, that I loved you?” He let out a cold laugh. “You were just entertainment to me, and now I have other things to worry about. You’re in my way.”
✅At the end-
But I couldn’t bring myself to care that my new businesses were thriving. I’d used my new identity and the money to kick-start my wine and real estate businesses. I was even willing to try to do it all legally from now on if I could have Victoria back. So what if I didn’t rule the city? Fuck the city, and power, and money, and everything if I couldn’t have the only thing that I truly wanted. I wanted to touch her. Kiss her. Make love to her. I wanted to wipe away her tears and make her smile. Really smile. That beautiful smile of hers that illuminated the whole damn world
💎So, you get what i am saying right? There is a LOT of push and pull between theses two because they both DO NOT trust ANYBODY.
💎What i REALLY liked about Nero, and was SHOCKED to read was, he was REALLY patient with Victoria.
💎I mean, you don't ask a mob boss about his personal business, his family, his dealings, you just obey whatever he says.
💎But, shockingly enough , when Nero started warming up to Victoria, he answered her EVERY question. Even I found Victoria annoying sometimes because she prodded too much. But Nero not even for a second thought that she might use information against him, and answered her VERY patiently.
😨😨😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍And OMG. Look at THIS😍😍😍😍😍😍😨😨😨😨😨-
“NO.” Victoria vehemently shook her head. “I can’t!” “Oh, come on.” I tugged on her arm. “It’s just a rollercoaster. It’ll be fun.” “What if we get stuck upside down?” “So what?” I teased. “They’ll get us back down in a few hours.”
🥺🥺He is a FRIGGING mob boss taking his wife for a roller coaster ride.
🥺🥺That's why its not a DARK romance. It's pretty mild.
2️⃣Victoria-
✅In the beginning-
The kitchen had a huge fridge that was full of food, and there were plenty of appliances that I could use to cook and make whatever I wanted. There were knives too. Maybe I should take one and hide it, in case I needed it to defend myself from Nero. But if I had to wear those thin dresses, I wasn’t sure where I’d be able to hide it. Maybe that was the point. Maybe Nero always wanted to see all of me and wouldn’t let me hide anything from him, which was a scary thought.
✅In the middle-
I WANTED TO THANK NERO for taking me to see my family. I wanted to comfort him. I wanted him.
No one had been there for Nero to teach him what a true bond between family members meant. What love meant. His father hadn’t even provided a sense of safety or trust, especially if he was as emotionally unavailable as Nero had made him sound.
✅In the end-
I might have time for my hobbies now, but as soon as I picked up a book, I remembered Nero. Whenever I saw a painting, I remembered Nero. Whenever I lay awake at night, I remembered Nero. It was impossible not to think about him. People said that time cured all wounds, but I didn’t think I’d ever heal from this. I missed him so damn much. Every day. Every night.
💎GOD!!!! Victoria was SUCH a strong girl. I.......i mean, there was a man chained to the wall in the basement and she was NOT supposed to be witnessing Nero, punching that guy, but she did NOT blink twice when she watched what was being done to him.
💎She was VERY caring because.........because she was the VERY right girl to break the hardened shell of the Nero.
💎I really like that Victoria ALWAYS saw into Nero's bullshit and did NOT assume the worst when it came to Nero. She reasoned everything out, and after warming up to him. Did NOT think the worst of him.
3️⃣The chemistry-
Don't even talk about it.🤐
4️⃣The bad-
🖤There are some holes in the plot.
🖤Like...... the H is just "assuming" that the Rossis will be holding there meeting at a certain warehouse, when he CLEARLY knows that it can be a ploy of luring him to the ware house. Which is ACTUALLY what happened.
🖤He knows that his father is not the most trustworthy person , STILL he calls him for help when he and his men get stuck in the warehouse and what happens after that is UNBEILEIVABLE. Let's just say that Nero's father was a VERY bad man.
🖤And much more.........at least 5-6 times during the book i felt that , it was stupid of him to just "Assume" this and that.
🖤His assumptions went wrong 4 out of 10 times.
🖤The story did NOT feel like a "mafia story" after some time.
🖤Because things were happening too easily. It wasn't.........thrilling enough i guess.
🖤He was EASILY able to locate the enemy, easily able to know who kidnapped Layla(hs sister). Easily able to know that Lucas Rossi will DEFINITELY bring Layla back. Easily able to find illegitimate son of Lucas , and the MOST shocking of all.........the nursery school easily gave Nick(Lucas's illegitimate son) to Victoria(who was dressed as the nanny).
I hope it gets better and better in the future tho😁
‼️‼️‼️THE HEROINE IS A VIRGIN

‼️‼️‼️NO PUSHING AWAY FROM THE HEROINE. ONLY FROM THE HERO. Not so many 😉😉😉😉
‼️‼️‼️HAPPY ENDING. Married and pregnant 🥺 I wish it was a longer epilogue but its ok😁😁😁
This was a great quick love story. Interesting! 😍😍
I truly resent the people who give 5 stars just because of whatever. Thank goodness this was free. I won’t go into too much detail except to say this is not a true mafia romance. Yes the main characters fall in love and have sex. But the process of getting there was too simplistic. The characters were underdeveloped and the plot was almost non existent. Sentences were short and simple. Very little effort given to fleshing out any of the characters personalities. I literally read this in less than 2 hrs. People were introduced and then we never heard much about them again. There are plenty of actual Mafia type romances out that the benchmark. This was just a hurried attempt imo.
This was a let down. I don’t know why, but I expected more but the writing was really bad, and the heroine was rather weak. Which is something I don’t mind but given the premise, she never should’ve folded that easily. I guess it’s pretty common for mafia heroines to be so but I just couldn’t get over it. The sex scenes didn’t even make up for it. They were boring, clinical, too brief, and unsexy. I hate when a really great start is ruined. :(
Victoria sees something she shouldn’t have and Nero is charged with stalking her and killing her. Instead, he wants to marry her and put her under his protection. Will she agree? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and intense chemistry. I liked the characters and they have plenty of depth. An entertaining mafia read.
The addition starts with the book covers….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! Bad boy….check Bod boy’s crazy brother/friend…check Bad boy’s Kryptonie…check ….check and check By the time you’ve figured out who is who and how much you hate and wish for harm on others or just a wakeup call, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter! You will start it and You will not put it down until the last page has been turned. Can’t say I didn’t warn you. (Believe me when I say you won’t put it down until the last page is read…you will find yourself getting upset cause someone called, texted or bothered you while reading this one, you will find yourself up at ungodly hours just to finish it knowing you have to be at work early (like 3am early) the very next day) YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! Victoria saw something she wasn’t supposed to see as a result a hit has been put out on her by the mafia boss. Nero is son of said boss and has been tasked the job to kill Victoria because she was a witness, so he started stalking her, but he has another idea to marry her instead to protect her from his father. Sounds like an excellent plan right but do not forget who his father is, and he leaned from the best. Nero is a controlling, manipulative, uses emotional blackmail and threats to another whole level. Victoria was just trying to keep her head above water, taking care of her family, bills that never stop and then witnessing a murder and forced into a marriage not of her doing but under the umbrella of protection by the one man tasked with killing her. She is feisty, smart and doesn’t just lay down and take it but is she strong enough to stay in a marriage manufactured by emotional bulling and is there happiness for these two?
3.5⭐️ Victoria works non-stop to support her little sister and her grandmother. On the way to one of her jobs, she stops to buy some flowers to put on her grandfather’s grave, and in the cemetery, she witnesses a crime and runs away. But Nero manages to find her and offers her a deal that can benefit both of them: she will marry him in exchange for her protection and her family; if she rejects it, they will all die. Victoria accepts and goes to live with Nero, and at first she only cleans the house, but Nero wants more of her and they end up sleeping together. Nero’s addiction for Victoria grows stronger and stronger, and despite his father asking him to divorce her, he is incapable. But when the rival family, the Rossi, endanger Victoria’s life and her family, he begins to doubt whether he is worthy of her or she would be better off with a man without so many enemies. Quick to read and entertaining.
When Victoria witnesses something she shouldn't she knows to keep her head down and mouth shut if she wants to live. But even keeping to her self she feels she is being watched. Nero ran after the women wj osaw to much but when he caught up with her she wasn't quite what he expected, her kindess and innocence shined through in the dark neighbourhood, and he had to have to her and show her how dark the world really is. With Nero's father wanting her dead his deal to become his wife in exchange for his protection was her only choice to keep her fill safe. But wjo could protect her mind, body and heart from the like of Nero? This is a well written steamy captive mafia romance, with an engaging storyline and well developed characters that bring to life action packed violent, desire filled read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I wanted to give this book 4 stars, but in the end, I just didn't gel with it that well. It was a good and enjoyable read. Victoria was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and so Nero used her to benefit himself. Their love affair was constantly held back, neither one accepting that they could or should embrace the feelings for each other. Nero's father seemed to be the catalyst to the whole storyline. Making Nero having to watch more than his enemies. I guess I wanted more from the couple, although at first Nero seemed to walk more on the dark side of life rather, I felt in the end he would be good for the woman he loved and I am more use to mafia stories with a darker content.
Excellent dark romance, with constantly changing emotions. 4.5 I loved hating Nero's character during a long part of the story. The author has succeeded very well in conveying the evolution of Nero, this mafioso without any attachment who thinks that kindness is a fault and a weakness, just like the evolution of Victoria, his wife under duress who of innocent, discovers a very dark and dangerous mafia world at every turn. The story is hot, full of twists and turns and strong emotions. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Victoria's whole life is focused on helping her younger sister and grandmother. Whilst long hours, multiple jobs to provide for them. Promising to leave flowers on her grandfather's grave before her cleaning shift at a love restaurant. She hears a scream and heads over to see what the problem is, however, manages to witness a mafia 'meeting'. Realising that she needs to run away she heads off to the restaurant determined to never speak of what she saw.
Nero assures his mafia don father that he will deal with the girl running away in the cemetery. Following her to the restaurant and back home, he watches her and finds himself drawn to her. Seeing her selfless devotion to her family, he makes her an offer to keep her family safe by marrying him. Keeping it secret from her family she agrees to hid demands.
Getting her to be his maid at his house to earn her keep he agrees to pay for carers to hrt grandmother and cover all their bills. As things progress a dominant relationship forms leaving them both shocked by feelings they are gaining for each other. As a threat appears against her family he steps up help her and draws them closer.
