Broken Truths #1

The Lie That Binds Us

Rate this book
Aaron showed me what it was to feel protected, loved, and cherished. Then, he destroyed me without so much as a goodbye.

He left me alone, to pick up the pieces of my shattered heart. Years went by and I fooled myself into thinking I had moved on, content with a secure job and the new man in my life.

Unfortunately, something that was truly broken cannot be fixed without leaving deep scars. Those old wounds rip wide open when Aaron storms back into my life. He wants to rehash the past and stir up long buried feelings. But I can’t give in to the fire of passion I’ve carried for him all these years.

There’s too much at stake.

When Aaron vanished, he left me with a secret. One I will protect at all cost. What do I have to lose if the truth comes out?

3.5 ⭐️

This book had some things in it that just did not make sense to me. Why Aaron and his best friends would have felt like they needed to do what Ezra said and gotten involved in his gang dealings especially because they were all rich boys and he didn’t really have any power over them when it all started.

Elle is really just super annoying for most of the book.

This all being said the book gets better as it goes along and went from a 3⭐️ to a 3.5⭐️ and I will continue with book 2 is this duet.

This book has so many twists and turns that I didn’t know what was going on, that’s not to say I didn’t love this book cause I absolutely did.

This book is full of angst and heartbreak! It’s a second chance romance filled with lies from every side.

I am in love with this book and can’t wait to find out what happens next

Ella and Aaron were supposed to be together forever. But young love has a way of not always working out. In their case, though? Let's just say outside forces, outside people, had their way with the youngsters and now it's years later and she's moved on (not completely really). Then he comes charging back into her world. Will all the lies come out? Is a true second chance in their future?

Well damn. That was a ride! So much happened here, and though we got some revelations, there is still a lot more to come. There's a huge cliffhanger and I gotta admit I'm a tad worried for Ella and Aaron. I really got into this first part of their story, though - it's intense and angsty, steamy, and more than a little tragic. I really can't wait for The Truth which Finds us now.

This book was really great and full of twists. Some I could see coming and some that had me jaw dropping. It took me a few chapters to get into the story but once I was in I was there for the whole drive and I need more!! I loved we got two time line, and in each one we are waiting for Aaron and Ella to get together. But to make things harder, secrets, lies are wrapped around them. The past is barely enough to grasp he secrets of the present. And the bomb twist at the end led us to a bitter cliffhanger.

This is my first book by this author and she did not disappoint! The Lie That Binds Us is attention grabbing from the beginning. I was hooked from prologue to see where this story was going to go. I love second chance stories so I was ready to buckle down and dive deep into this. Aaron and Ella meet at a stuffy high society party while there with their parents. What follows is a first love, first heartbreak story between 2 soulmates. Im so invested and can't wait to see what happens

This is the first book I've read by the author and I devoured it. Ella and Aaron's story is full of unexpected twists and turns that will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. It kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat the entire time.

I can't wait for the next book and see what's going to happen next.

💫 I was not expecting this kind of book. When Isabella started to tell us about her new story, and having read The Hidden Elements, I knew I needed to expect some plot twists in the story, but nothing prepared for what just happened.

The blurb does not make the story justice, there is a lot more that you can only discover once you read this, and if you like second chance romance, steamy books and surprises everywhere, this book is totally for you!

I did need to know more about Aaron but this was Ella's story so it's fine. I really hope we have a chance to see more point of views from Aaron in the next books.

The group of friends that we see here are incredible and Carter completely won my heart. I need to protect him.

Can't wait for book 2!

What a fantastic story filled with suspense, mystery, angst, heartache and so much emotional turmoil that it had me riveted to my seat, laughing, crying and in utter shock at some of the bombs being dropped.

Eleanor is a strong woman, but events from her past have brought her such heartache that she’s just moving through life like a zombie. We slowly learn how she went from a carefree, fun loving, young woman with a fantastic group of young men as best friends, to a woman who has been scorned, betrayed and beaten down mentally. The journey she takes us on is rife with intense emotions and angst, and contains so many layers that this part of the story only reveals a small portion of it. There is still so much to learn about each of the characters and what transpired 7 years ago.

Brilliantly written with the perfect amount of intensity, steam and suspense, with phenomenal characters who pull on your heartstrings, make you fall in love (some you might want to destroy), and a storyline that is jaw dropping at times and really sexy at other times. It’s the perfect steamy romance with a twist at the end keeping you hooked and waiting for more!

I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to see how this story turns out.

I have to say that I have no clue as to what the hell is going on in this story, but I'm HERE FOR IT ALL! There seems to be a lot going on in these pages without a lot of answers to my many questions but color me fully intrigued by it all. Ella had several best friends who were all boys, and she fell in love with Aaron (one of those boys). They swore they would be together forever, but it just wasn't in the cards for them as all of them disappeared from her life out of the blue. She's been without Aaron, and her best friends for a cool minute now, and while she feels she's moving on with a job she enjoys & about to get married, all of a sudden all hell breaks loose, and it's done her head in. Aaron is suddenly back in her life whether she wants him there or not, and he is full of secrets. Well, Ella has a secret or two of her own, and she's fully prepared to go to the grave with hers, and with the events surrounding one of those secrets, I have to say she's not wrong to do so. However, we all know secrets don't stay secret forever, and hers is out of the bag leading to a very intense cliffhanger ending that did my head in because I honestly have no clue as to how this is all going to shake out, but I'm ready for it! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I love Isabella Phoenix and this book! I'm a huge romantic suspense fan and this book had it all! I was upset with Ella at first because I didn't like how she allowed her parents and boyfriend, Matt, talk to her or treat her! She acted like they put up with her because of her past and it wasn't one everyone knew about and she didn't talk about. But she was part of an exclusive group with Aaron, Sebastian, Carter, and Rex. They took care of her and made sure no guys came near her. But the one guy she wanted to get close was Aaron but he treated her like a kid sister. However, Aaron didn't always have brotherly feelings for her, she just didn't realize. So what happened to break up this group? What happened in Ella's past that made her so timid and distant? Grab this book and figure out what happened when Ella was a teenager? This does end in a cliffhanger but it's worth it.

I love the twists and turns in this book!

Ella is moving to a new town at the start of the book. She is independent and not impressed by the fancy house and wants to do things her own way.

She meets some guys that she becomes close with, but something happens and she ends up parting ways with them. This story is about what happens when they come back into her life.

The books switches between time periods, but not so much that it gets confusing. Most of the book is set in the present and all about the reunion of the characters.

There are secrets and betrayals all over the place and Ella is keeping a big secret of her own which threatens to derail the reconnection with her boys.

Aaron seems to be a pretty dark character at first but as the book goes on, you see a different side of him.

The ending was great and I can't wait for book 2!

Okay ma’am… Isabella Phoenix I see you!!! You comin in hot with The Lie That Binds Us…. Ella and Aaron are everything!!! Be prepared for the emotional roller coaster ride of your freaking life. There are so many twists and turns in this story that there is no way you can see what is coming next. I love this!!! I love not being able to figure out what is coming and then BA< getting smacked in the face and shook to my core. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and you are instantly pulled into the story from page one. Plan on not doing anything for the rest of the day because there is no way you will be able to put this book down. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on book two. This is a MUST READ!

I'm okay. I'm okay.. I'm okay... I am not okay.
This book had me feeling like my heart was in my throat for the majority of its pages. The amount of emotion that was injected into the story was phenomenal and I loved every part.

Completely love Ella and her inner ramblings. Aaron, Rex and Sebastian are okay too... I guess. Fine, I might love them all too but Carter is my designated favourite!

I may have cried a few times... I definitely laughed. The vodka... I laughed loud enough to get weird looks off my family members.

Can Ezra find a really tall cliff and be pushed off it into shark infested waters? Actually thats too good a death for him. I'll think on it and get back to you on that thought.

I can't wait for book two so that I can no doubt break my heart all over again.

Wow, dark, gritty and compelling. Ella and Aaron met by fate and loved deeply until it was all wrenched away from them. This is a story of love, passion friendship and betrayal on so many levels. The story unfolds page by page, not only for Ella and Aaron but for so many other characters in the story. 7 years were taken from them, 7 years that could have had a different outcome. Wrongs will re righted, hearts put back together and a promise of a future. I cannot wait to see how this story ends.

When things aren’t what they seem…

Ella aka Nora. Used to be a firecracker. Used to not want to be told what to do. Used to not want to conform to her parents ideal of how she “should” be… Ella used to do a lot of things. But that was all before. Before Aaron, Sebastian, Carter, and Rex…

Now engaged to Matt, a successful business man and the man who makes Ella the happiest. Their may be no passion, but he picked up her up when ‘they’ weren’t their anymore, when she needed someone the most. He’s her rock.

7 years later and the guys are back in her life. Only it’s not that simple. Lies. Secrets. Truths. Ella can’t seem to keep anything straight. Aaron is back, only he’s acting like he never left. Ella is his. “Mine.” What Ella thought was only the past is now more than she thought.

Can she fall back to the girl she was before.? Before the lies. Before the secrets. Can she love Aaron…did she ever stop? Can she save her heart and her family before it’s too late?

******

This book was pretty good. It is NOT an RH. Just incase you are like me and questioning it. I did feel at the end that I started reading the same thing after a while. Ella needed the truth, but even when she got it, she still needed confirmation. Then the “big secret,” I thought was pretty clear as day, but Ella never had any emotion regarding it till the end. Why was she more forthcoming with some of the guys, but now all after they all left?

I would like to see more actual development from her and Aaron in book2 and get more answers. We got a lot of Matt in this book and for how everything played out, I know need a lot more of Aaron. Can’t wait to read Book 2.

*Overall 3.5/5
*Heat? 1/5
*Slow Burn
*MF Romance
*First person POV (Ella and Aaron)
*Quick read
*HEA. No. Cliffhanger.

The intensity level in this book is perfection.

I read this in a day because I couldn’t put it down. It was that good!

We are told this story mostly from Eleanor’s perspective, through current and past timelines, as we learn about her life and her circumstances. Her present knows her as Nora, but he past knows her as Elle, a carefree, fun loving teenager who fell in with a group of beautiful boys who became her whole world. But none more than Aaron, who stole her heart. But after years of friendship, her boys left her, heartbroken and with some secrets she plans to take to the grave…

Now, in the present, she is dating a guy who helped put all her broken pieces back together. But it still isn’t enough. She is still that same girl on the inside, trying to break free of her calm and shinier surface.

When Aaron crashes back into her life, everything changes. What she thought she knew, she realizes, she never did - and the things she never understood are brought into striking clarity. One thing is for sure, her boys are back in her life and that life is turned upside down. But she never ever really forgot about all those feelings for Aaron and with him so close again, it’s hard to stay away. Even if she is already committed to someone else.

This book is dark and suspenseful. You will be questioning things at every turn. Just belt yourself in and enjoy the ride!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Isabella has smashed her way into Contemporary Romance. I thoroughly enjoyed her foray into this genre and would definitely recommend giving it a read.

It’s a book full of angst, secrets and heartbreaking love.

Throughout the majority of the book we follow Eleanor’s POV, mostly in present day with some flashbacks to show how everyone has ended up where they are today. We do get some cheeky little chapters from Aaron though, which I loved.

We see her go through her heartbreak, still trying to work her way through what has happened (without knowing what really happened), trying to build a new life for herself without realising what is going on, until that moment it all comes to a head and lies are unearthed and hearts start to heal. Or so you think, because ya know, what book ends on a HEA in the Indie world? 🤣

Prepare to need the next book right now. I can’t wait to see what happens 🖤

This had me utterly hooked from start to finish.

An incredible blend of mystery both past and present with a lovely dollop of steam and incredibly engaging characters keep you wanting more even as you're reading it. Told mostly from the FMC's pov I loved the little bits we get from Aaron they gave just enough to get some idea where he's at but not so much you can make wild guesses as to what will happen next. Flashbacks give us some history but again manage to walk that fine line of not giving away too much until the author is ready. The twists and turns took me by surprise at places where some aspects were more predictable giving parts a familiar feel you can never quite get comfortable before the next one.

The ending had me frantically tapping next page on my kindle in the hope book 2 would magically appear :D

The Lie That Binds Us is Isabella Phoenixs first contemporary release and its pure fire!! Now writing this review without giving away any secrets isn't the easiest of tasks especially as I was obsessed with this story for days after finishing!

We first meet Ella as a teen who's entire life has been turned upside down trying to find her way in a new town. A new town full of lies and secrets! But now she's all grown up and taking back what's hers and unravelling her life one lie at a time.

I absolutely loved this book and isabellas use of past and present tense really helps build the story into what it is. There's steam, angst and intrigue that leaves you wanting more. Absolutely amazing writing yet again and I can not wait for book 2!

Wow! I went into this blind, and so glad I did.. as this started I was thinking it would be a sweet love story. That Matt would help Eleanor through a difficult time due to a tragic past and they would live happily ever after.

And then came a twist, and then another, and then the twists didn't stop until I hit the end of the book and screamed because it's it's end and I need to know what happens.

I can't say much more without giving spoilers, but I can't wait for Ella to get revenge on everyone who had lied and manipulated her for so long. It is going to be amazing.

Read this book! It was nothing like I initially expected, but so good!

What a rollercoaster!
I was absolutely floored by this book, and honestly didn't see any of those twists and turns coming.

Eleanor may not have the perfect life, but it's a life she's trying her best at. The boyfriend her family loves and a decent job. But her past has a way of coming back. Secrets become revealed and the lies of others do as well.

Fantastic job once again by Isabella Pheonix. I'm blown away at how well she wove the shocking turns, and how perfectly they fit the story.

So excited for the next book, I can't wait to see what's thrown at us next!

This book was everything. I love Ella and Aaron so much! You get to see these two as well as the other boys as teenagers and how their dynamic was back then to how they’re now. There’s a huge difference in their adult life and how they have grown and proceeded with their life. Aaron has a lot of fun ent up aggressive and he struggles with Ella being back in his life. With Ella you see her go backwards, you see her pain and heartache and you get pushed and you want to protect her but at the same tome you want to knock some sense into her because Aaron is just 🔥🔥🔥!

This is Ella and Aaron’s story and wow is it a whirlwind of emotions, twists and turns and heart wrenching angst. This book certainly is one of those rollercoaster books that is completely compelling. We come across both past and present with flashbacks which gives us glimpses into what’s happened. There’s not a whole lot you can say for this book without giving away spoilers but I definitely look forward to seeing how this all plays out in the end!
