The Medusa Quest
Phoebe Katz is back on a new mission to save Olympus and undo the fallout from her first visit. Damian has troubling news—the epic mythology stories in the books are changing. Instead of Perseus slaying Medusa and becoming a hero, the books now say he’s turned to stone. Worse, thanks to Phoebe slaying the Nemean lion and the Lernean hydra to complete the Eye of Zeus, Hercules failed his first two trials—which means he’s not the immortal hero he’s supposed to be. After speaking with the oracle who brought her to New York, Phoebe learns that without great heroes, the entire fabric of Greek mythology is in peril. She must go back to Olympus and right the history she wrecked. Alane Adams grew up in an old Quaker town called Whittier in Southern California. Adams attended Whittier High School and was active in every possible sport including basketball (proudly claiming the nickname Breakaway Adams!) and swimming and diving. For college, Alane attended the University of Southern California where she wanted to be an English major, but family convinced her to become an accountant to help run a family business. After spending the next few decades helping to build one of the largest recycling companies on the West Coast, Alane left the family business behind to pursue her writing career. Before launching into writing full-time, Alane began teaching full-time at a local university. Finally, the Legends of Orkney series was born when her then 12-year-old son challenged Alane to write a book he could read. She hasn't stopped writing since that day.
Alane's favorite books include any story involving folklore, fantasy and fairytales. When Alane is not writing or teaching, she is hanging out with her three boys, each who have grown up having adventures to rival those of her characters.

Medusa Quest picks up about two months after the first book. Phoebe has now moved in with Carl and his two cats in Brooklyn. She still misses Olympus and learning more about her extended family. Then Phoebe's friend Damian uncovers news that history has been altered, instead of Perseus slaying Medusa, he has instead been turned to stone. In addition, by completing one of Hercules labours, they have caused him to fail his first two trials. In order to set things right, they must return to Olympus and this time collect the items they need to rewrite the history they've changed.
Greek mythology is one of my favorite type of stories to read, there's always lots of action, quests to acquire various elements, epic monsters and um a Pegasus, who doesn't like that? I certainly was feeling a lot of Clash of the Titans vibes, in a good way while reading this story, especially in the lead up to the battle with Medusa. Writing your own Greek mythology story is always tricking, if it's a book for kids you'll get compared to Percy Jackson, which I don't see as a bad thing. At least in the ones that I've read, I always find something new to enjoy. I mean sure there are only a few ways to chop off Medusa's head that don't lead to you being turned to stone, but Alane Adams always seems to include enough differences in her stories to make them stand out, while also being very entertaining. It still might be fun to read Medusa Quest and then watch The Clash of the Titans though. I really liked Phoebe, despite her slight bossiness and harshness at times with her friends. She had this propensity to call up her lightening ability as a first response in a situation, I would've liked to see a little less lightening blasts and maybe see her friends take a more active role. Come up with an alternative strategy to handle the situation, outsmart them if you will instead of blasting things. She also has a strong stubborn streak and really wanted her own way, sometimes forgetting to include her friends in decision making. Yet at the same time, this felt pretty realistic given Phoebe's upbringing and having to rely on herself for making decisions. Overall, I quite enjoyed Medusa Quest and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. **A huge thank you to SparkPress for the E-ARC.**

Here is another epic adventure of the trio: Phoebe, Damian and Angie. In this adventure, because of the events that happened in Book One: The Eye of Zeus, Damian noticed changes to the mythology and warns Phoebe. And what is the most logical thing Phoebe can do? Well, it’s to return to Olympus.
Once in Olympus, the trio (along with Hercules and Perseus) try to restore balance to the mythology line. However, disaster continues to strike and Phoebe is challenged with doing the right thing - no matter if that means losing the family relationship she longs for in Perseus and their mother.
A great read for those who enjoy Greek mythology or adventure.

After finishing The Eye of Zeus I almost immediately picked up the Medusa Quest as I was eager to see what Phoebe and her friends got themselves into this time. I liked the element of Phoebe having to face repercussions of her actions and it was great again to see her and her friends learning and growing as they went on their quest to correct things. I again really loved Adams' writing style and the way the story flowed naturally. Yes there were immature moments, but that's suitable for the age range this series is intended for. All in all I've really enjoyed both books in the series so far and will definitely read more from Adams.

Phoebe is still strong, brave, and stubborn, but she knows that she has a job to do and will do anything in order to finish it and make sure things are right again in Olympus... at least enough for how the tales are told in her world to be correct and back to normal-ish.
The action in this book starts right off and I think middle grade readers will enjoy that. This book still has the Percy Jackson feel of the first book, but it is a creative retelling of the legends of the heroes of Olympus and it shows their personalities in a fun way. In a way it kind of teaches the reader a bit about the mythology while also changing it for the premise or the book - that is where Damian's character comes in, he is a wealth of knowledge.
I liked that in this book, the author tried to give us more about the companion characters, tried to grow them into more fully fleshed out people versus just bait like the last book.
I really enjoy mythology so this was a fun read for me and I enjoyed following Phoebe and her friends again as they navigated their way through the world of these legends. I think that Phoebe still has a lot of room for growth and needs to be a bit less impulsive, but she is entertaining and her friends are what are holding her together but also cleaning up after her.
I think overall there needs to be more character growth, but for a middle grade reader I think that this will be a fun and fast book that will keep them on their toes and have them wanting more of Phoebe and her friends.

Phoebe is such a great character who tends to cause more trouble than she planned! Good thing she has two best friends to help her every step of the way! Make room on your shelves-you definitely want this one!!
