We're making some progress on finding out what Lucy's deal is, finally. And we have quick visits from an implausibly large number of characters from previous story lines. Still way too many characters who do to little to be memorable. But the art, and the actual action when it happens, are excellent.

I had intended to quit reading this series, but apparently I forgot to cancel a hold I placed on this book before I had read the previous volume.

I have been complaining that this book has too many characters and unresolved plot lines to possibly keep track of without a character guide and a detailed recap. The publisher made a feeble attempt to help out by including a cast list . . . that only includes half of the characters who are actually in this book! No recap. And for the characters not listed in the front of the book, the author or translator usually refuses to include their names in the scene they are in, so you have to fish around to find out who they even are if you don't immediately recognize their faces.

I'm sure all the scenes with these dozens of different characters are very meaningful for someone who lives and breathes this manga, but a casual reader like me just has to give up. Again. And this time I'm checking my active holds list at the library to make sure Vol. 14 is not included.

Tento díl má zase grády, které ten předchozí dost postrádal. Asi zakoušela paní Yamazaki mírné vyhoření, ale teď se vrací s plnou parádou.

Dokonce se čtenáři dostává porce fungování světa. Nějak jsem myslela, že Ruth s Čise mluví v myšlenkách a že to ostatní neslyší. Kdepak. Ostatní jejich komunikaci slyší, ale je to jako poslouchat komunikaci mezi dvěma psy, takže vrčení a ňafání a štěkání. Vtipná perlička na okraj.

Just yesterday after I finished reading this volume of manga I thought to myself: "It's been such a long time since the anime ended and since then there has been released a new content I wonder when we will get new Mahou Tsukain no Yome anime?"

I read the entire volume in one day and was left feeling like nothing happened in it. I've been sprinting through this series all month but it's so hard to remember so many side characters when they barely do anything more than take up space. I think once I've caught up to all published editions I won't pursue any more.

przez to że tomy tak rzadko wychodzą po polsku zanika trochę magia tej serii. gdy mam 4 rozdziały na pół roku to po prostu zapominam co działo się wcześniej xD sam tom był lepszy od kilku poprzednich, ale w wielu momentach byłam skołowana i nie ogranialam o co chodzi.

Táto časť bola mega!

Príbeh sa opäť zamotáva, akcie pribúda a ja sa fakt teším na pokračovania, pretože potrebujem odpovede.

Jediné, čo mi prekážalo a zároveň ma tešilo bolo to, že som si prvotne nedokázala spomenúť na viacero postáv, ktoré už v sérii boli a teraz sa opäť ukázali na scéne. Priniesli so sebou akúsi premyslenosť deja, čo kvitujem.

Tras el desenlace del cliffhanger se empieza a formar el misterio/conflicto principal al que se enfrentaran Chise y Elias, aunque ellos no tengan que ver directamente.

Buen volumen, buen nivel de acción, revelaciones, misterio.

Ein interessanter Band. Man erfährt mehr über die Familie Webster. Außerdem ist ein sehr gefährliches Buch jemandem in die Hände geraten, der nun Zauberer attackiert. Ich mag die Mysteryelemente dieser Serie.

First of all, thank god for the new cast of characters pages - the College Arc has introduced so many new characters that it's honestly sometimes hard to keep track of them. Also, I loved this volume! I really love the direction the story is taking, and also how Yamazaki-sensei still keeps events from the first arc incorporated in the story. Wish these got translated faster, can't wait to read Volume 14!

Chise and her classmates encounter dangerous fae while camping. Back at school, we learn about the Webster tragedy. We learn that Lucy has a brother and their lives are both in danger. An important book in the school's library collection goes missing. It is discovered that someone (or something) is draining alchemists of their magic.

Best volume in a while. The first chapter concludes the camp story and it's nicely creepy with its folklore creatures and their dark nature. What I've missed most in the academy arc is the fae and such from myths and folk tales, so it was great to have some of that here.

The rest of the volume focuses on aftermath of the camp, more precisely attack on Lucy and how she was drained of magic and ties in both her family's backstory and troubles in the academy. The strength of this volume was in focusing in Lucy's family and peppering the mystery at the school in between. It didn't cram all the students into it and thus didn't feel bloated. Chise and Elias both got time to reflect how relationships, compassion and interaction work (not relationship between them necessarily but in general. Elias especially pondered about friends and such). Chise continues to deal with complex magical issues too, her draconian hand is no done deal it would seem.

The mystery was weaved in organically and foreshadows bigger conflict in the future. All in all a balanced volume that gave time to the characters this time.

P.S. I don't like Chise's new hair... :P

Hmmm, the plot is picking up but I’m finding the endless cast of characters rather annoying, especially as I’m not always able to distinguish them based solely on their drawn form. To make it more challenging various characters are referred to, indiscriminately (to my mind) by first names or last names or nicknames. I did appreciate a character bio section at the front but still.

It was fine, not sure where stuff is going except I expect the mystery of the Webster family massacre will be solved.

Also Elias trying to make friends (well, more like thinking about maybe making friends) was pretty amusing.

Without saying too much about this volume since this is far along in the series, Volume 13 of Ancient Magus Bride does a lot of character development for Lucy and Seth. We get background on Lucy's childhood and why she may be in danger. This volume has less Elias than some of the other volumes but does expand Chise's relationship with Lucy. This sets up some interesting plot points and starts to set the future for where the story will go next. This manga continues to be one of my favorites for how it incorporates folklore and fantasy elements.

The aftermath of Chise’s camping trip and the trouble with Lucy, leads into details of Lucy’s tragic childhood as well as a familiar face showing up again. It was both heartbreaking and very mysterious to learn about Lucy’s family and some of why she acts the way that she does. Lucy’s trouble on the camping trip also contacts to other mysterious instances that end up happening at the college, and a larger threat seems to be at play.
I’m extremely curious going into this next volume so see what gets revealed and what happens to everyone.

This volume feels like a lot of filler to lead into a new arc, having to do with the Webster siblings.

Not bad setup considering that the last few volumes of Chise being at the college was leading up to this as well as all the new characters but it's starting to feel as a bit distracting from Chise and Elias' and their initial story which honestly I can't remember now.

Hopefully this all ties back in somehow to Chise.

This story arc is not bad...but it is not as memorable as I believe it should be. Storytelling is fine along with art, but it seems to have a slightly overinflated crew, at least feels that way in this volume and so people are battling for page time. I'm trying harder to remember the new characters, but it does not always prevail. Story felt a little slower in the progress than previous volumes, but it was not a bad adventure.

The most recent installment of the Ancient Magus' Bride series was action packed. As always, there are new twists and turns, and many more questions than answers. Still, we're 13 volumes into this series and I feel like it is still going strong. The overall arch of the story is still being followed, even through the new adventures.

Mucha más acción que en el tomo 12, por fin sabemos cuál es la tragedia de los Webster.
Elias es muy cute cuando usa el feeling "estar solo" y cuando se separa de su cuerpo original parece un pescadito con cabeza de hueso :3
Chise dejó ir a los lobos que perseguían a Lucy y a su hermano, pero seguro tendrán un arco más adelante.

Lucy's full backstory is revealed in this volume, as is the overarching plot for the College Arc. Yamazaki uses some traditional Scottish folklore creatures to great effect in the first few chapters and continues to build a compelling cast of characters and magic school that should easily appeal to fans of a franchise-that-shall-not-be-named.
