My true name is Xi’an—Creator, sister of Xi’tan and Xi’li, and the protector and embodiment of Beauty. I’ve lived thousands of times, each existence ending in a war that destroyed the entire universe. This has been, by far, the worst lifetime...and it just keeps getting worse.
I was just fine, living out my days in a little grove of my own making. There, I could avoid messy interactions with people and bide my time until the next war came. I had everything I needed, even a friend. Sounds nice, right?
Well, it was until three intruders showed up, claiming they were merely doing their jobs. The job? To destroy my home because some lunatic calling himself The Anointed decided it. Ridiculous name, I know, but the threat he poses can’t be ignored. This is the reason we aren’t supposed to pull away from the civilizations on our planets, and my little rule-bending stunt has come back to bite me in my rear.
Now, I’m stuck righting my wrongs, which means traveling to the city and finding a way to put a stop to the insanity that will destroy my planet. Shouldn’t take too long, then I can return home and wait for the signs of the real war. Except, I’m beginning to think that the embodiment of Chaos must have died a true death, and it attached itself to me. The Anointed is in hiding, I’m starting to actually like these three men, and I seem to piss everyone off. Ah, well, I suppose there’s a beauty in chaos, so I might as well enjoy it.
**************** Piercing Light is the first in a reverse harem fantasy series that is connected to the universe of The Anomaly series. While you do not need to read The Anomaly series first to understand this story, it is best if this is read after reading The Anomaly series to avoid major spoilers for The Anomaly series. The Unruly series will focus on Xi’an, Everly/Xi’li’s sister. Our heroine will not pick between her men, and this book does contain mature themes. It is not recommended for those under the age of 18.
Xi'an (Mercy FMC) has been living in her own private oasis away from everyone until 3 men - Zayn, Juro & Tok interrupt that quiet existence. Xi'an is much more than she seems though (Sha a creator) and has lived a long life and seen a lot of destruction/wars with her siblings. She finds herself tagging along with the trio to find out what the mysterious The Anointed are up too. Except doing that is more dangerous than it seems to both her and the guys. I really liked Xi'an. She's not all she seems. From the start she seems a little naive (or that's the way she wants to come across to the guys) but because she's hiding who she is to everyone including the guys she's sneaky but fun. With her companion Mint (who is one eclectic animal lol) they both play off of each other. By the ending of the book Mint was becoming a trouble maker but a cute one. It's a pretty good start to this series. It was a long read but it hooks you in and keeps you glued to it. With that ending I'm looking forward to the next book now
If you liked the anomaly series by Aster you will definitely be drawn into this series as well. This book features Xi’an (the creator). After a big battle she slowly creates a world that she is living on the outskirts of. Until like the world goes.. someone crashes in on her peace. She is drawn into a war that she finds quite interesting as it may be different from the so many others she has seen.
This book focuses most on world building and character development as you learn how the world that Xi’an has created works. This is made easier by the addition of the 3 men around her. It allows you to see what they have really been living with. There isn't too much heat in this book I'm looking forward to where it's going. Each man is very distinct and alittle bit weird which I like.
We even get to hear from her brother Xi’tan, though it does make me quite curious as to what he is up to...I'm sure we will find out
I loved the start (or should I say restart) of Xi'an's story. She's one of the universe creators who restarts on her own planet after the last failed war. Over time she's carved out her own Grove (I imagined it like a tropical oasis) until her peaceful bliss is interrupted by 3 guys tasked with surveying the area. From them we learn along with her about what's been happening : past, present, and future in the country and world. Spurred on by someone having the gall to say they were blessed by the creators hand to destroy everything she created, she sets out to help/disrupt/restore the balance. The world building was fantastic, the story was exciting with mystery and intrigue and the relationships progressed naturally over time. I can't wait to see what they stumble into next. What excitement will they get into on their trek to find and hide Isla?
I have been waiting for this series since the last chapter of the anomaly series. I couldn't wait to find out more from Xi'an and this book does not disappoint. From the first chapter I was hooked on Xi'an - the character she is, is amazing - the creator, the embodiment of beauty. I don't think i have found a character that I bonded with so quickly. Xi'an is chilling out in a grove of her making, Alone from her family, surrounded by friends of her making. Until her sacred peace is broken by the three intruders hacking at her Eden. But they are not the evil here and there is so much more to come. I have loved this book (Yes I kept bugging Aster for more) and I cannot wait for more (Yes I have already chased this up!)
Aster writes phenomenal books. She absolutely blows me away every single time. In this we Xi’an, she is a goddess come to life exploring her world alongside the men who will eventually follow and love her. They are of course skeptical at first. They don’t know who she is or what she can do. Just that she is a supernatural who may be able to help them with their cause. In this book Aster creates a whole new world, from an ages old war to a current modern day drama. It’s an amazing beautiful epic level story. Her words draw you in and leave you gasping for more. Not only do I want the next book but I want to go back and read the previous series again. I hope she never stops writing because I will be left bereft if she does.
This is a fantastic read that takes you away to another world in which you can lose yourself and enjoy a fantastic story. It moves along at a great pace making for an enjoyable read. The characters are interesting and you cant help but fall in love with them wanting to know more about them. You want to see them overcome any obstacles which may get in their way. The story grabs you keeping you interested and reading until the very end and then you are wanting more. This is a must read and once you do you are hooked and wanting more.
If there is one great thing Aster can do, is manage to right humor into her books, could be a super charged invasion happening and she will throw in a humorous line about wanting to bite butt. Aster's ability to make new worlds and make you really see it, character development that makes you want to love or hate that person. Aster keeps me entertained and captivated throughout the entire book. 100% would recommend not just this book, but her other books
