Well written addition the this series. The mystery is complex and well plotted. The characters are an interesting mix of regulars and new. It is sometimes hard to tell who is the antagonist since the characters are multifaceted with blurred lines between their personality traits. A very satisfying read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I've been riveted by the Series until now. The same thing happened with the Stephanie Plum series, around the same time. The characters feel stuck, no real progression. The story was interesting, but I was bored reading it.
So Many Secrets hence: The Perfect Veil...Jessie Hunt 17
This is another of Blake Pierce's Psychological Suspense Thriller about Jessie Hunt LAPD Profiler. Jessie has been teaching profiling techniques to her students but she still gets called to lend her service to the LAPD central division where her boyfriend Ryan is head of the HSS division with Captain Decker their boss. The Homicide Special Section was suddenly alive again with financial and human resource support because of them being in the news for solving the Night Hunter mystery. So Captain had to talk to them about a new case and to actually tell them he didn't want them to work together until he got things straightened out with Human Resources but in the mean time he asked Jessie if she would consider going full time again since they no longer had Moses Garland. So Jessie and Detective Karen Bray are assigned to the death of an Internet Influencer and model who belonged to a cult. As they are investigating they find out that there are some secrets that are involved in the cult and the cults reach is far reaching into even the police force and a lot of important people, political, Hollywood stars and so much more. In the meantime Ryan is assigned to a killing of a woman in a YMCA shower which is situated in homeless section of the city. She is found hacked by a machete. So Ryan takes the one of the new detectives Susannah Valentine with him. It is a roller coaster of twists and turns looking all the while like a dead end. So we know that you will love to read and see what happens when they put Jessie on the case. Will they find who killed the young lady who is part of the cult? Does their investigation uncover other secrets that need to be unveiled. You know if have read Blake Pierce books that he will take you on a wild ride to solve these mysteries. I love Jessie Hunt and other Blake Hunt Mysteries but when of books slide into my Kindle I have to stop and read it. Loved this story and it always leave us with a thought about what might happen down the line because of the cast of characters that are involved in these stories. Excellent Read. I am biased because I am a Blake Pierce Super Fan but I actually believe if you start reading and you love a good mystery you will want to start reading the series.
I thought I was beginning to get bored of this series. The Jessie Hunt series is definitely beginning to suffer the "Sweet Valley High trope" of similar books, where the first chapters are predictably a reintroduction of the main characters and the last chapter is a teaser of the next book. Blake Pierce has built an empire of a franchise which could predictably run on for the next 20 years with little help from the author until it runs itself to the ground and drives away the true fans much like Stephanie Plum. As usual the main characters get the bare minimum in terms of development of a character arc beyond laying little nuggets for future plots. However, the crime mystery in this one is top notch. Blake creates a cult as the main villain in this particular mystery. The world building and psychological intrigue behind TEROTH and it's higher ups is very nicely done. So, while I'm a little over Jessie Hunt and her merry crew of supporting characters, I'll probably still hang around for a bit because, in the end, Blake still writes a good crime mystery.
A young lady who is famous on the internet is found murdered in an expensive hotel by the maid. Jessie Hunt is called to investigate the case. Upon investigating, she finds that the young lady is tied to a local cult group. A lot of secrets are revealed relating to the cult. Now she has to find the killer among many suspects. At the same time her fiancé is investigating another murder case. He gets a call from the jail, a psycho who is tried to kill Jessie claims to have information about the case but she will only talk to Jessie. Once she talks to Jessie, she tells her the information leading to the arrest of the killer and bargains for a change of jail facilities. All of this is part of her bigger plan to get closer to her obsession, Jessie Hunt.
Jessie has finally found a better and more healthy life with her sister going to therapy and her fiancee recuperating much faster from the wounds and returning to work in the Police. She is also enjoying teaching and working only on the most difficult and special cases. In this story she is faced with a cult, she never heard about, but that has tentacles spread all over, including in the police. So, who can you trust? How can you cut the head of this cult and avoid it spreading and killing more people? She is again in the eye of the hurricane and will suffer and do her best to win the game. I downloaded a free copy of this book through Bookfunnel and this is my honest opinion.
I like that other characters are being introduced or used more - like Detective Karen. I love that Hannah continues to talk to the counselor. This story was a little crazy, but aren’t they all. Human trafficking - it’s so real. And so sad. Yet so many teenage girls are convinced that people are helping them in the wrong way, or convincing them that they are good and need help. The ploy then puts them in terrible danger. This book made me think about how important it is to talk to our families about safety. Final thought: I love that Jessie stands up for education and how important it is for her life and joy.
Anyone that knows me, knows that this series is a guilty pleasure of mine. Each book with a compelling new storyline while continuing the personal lives of Jessie Hunt and those closest to her. This storyline is probably one of my favorites so far, the mystery is complex and well plotted with enough suspense to last you throughout the book. Each chapter would turn a new corner which kept me guessing until the very end. Though I was sad that Jesse and Ryan didn't get to work together in this specific book and we did not get a lot of material with them together, I still loved the case at hand and I especially loved the way it ended, in true Jessie Hunt fashion.
This book, seventeen in the Jessie Hunt thriller, is interesting once the cult angle comes into play. This differs from others in the series in that the cult has infiltrated so many areas, from Hollywood to the police force. In addition, Jessie is paired with Detective Karen Bray. Meanwhile, normal partner Ryan is paired with a new detective named Susannah Valentine on a homicide in a YMCA shower. The woman is hacked to death. This series is in no danger of ending any time soon.
**I received this book in exchange for an honest review. **
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
THE PERFECT VEIL…Blake Pierce The housekeeper noticing a lamp was missing On floor an aspiring actress from Hollywood He was a full time LAPD. she was a consultant Captain wants her full time as a profiler, vacancy to fill. She loves the teaching and working with students. Detective Karen Bray with Jessie, she knew the area. The.victim had a tattoo , one word Had detail sheets of activity and payments of a cult. A good thriller psychology plot, with Jessie and Karen Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
I love psychological thrillers, especially when they are very well written, the plots and subplots are surprising but believable, and the character development is such that one can almost see the various characters if they close their eyes just a moment. Have already pre-ordered the next two books and anxiously await their release(s). Blake Pierce is a dynamo.
Like other comments, I'm getting bored of this series. Not sure why I keep reading them- probably out of loyalty. There's no character development and everyone seems to have the exact same style of speaking. There's a lot of repeated phrases and no individuality. The author seems to churn these books out fast to keep the series going, without any real care.
I would like to see Hannah get The help she needs. For her to find herself and be happy. Kat is also someone I would like to see more involved in stories. Or have her own series of adventures with her boyfriend.
Really? Someone would stop being friends with another because they're going to intern at an oil and gas company? I dare anyone to get through the day without the products of mining, mineral or oil/gas. Try it. You can't do it. How sanctimonius.
The series is quite long so sometimes it gets boring like it did for me when u was reading this book. The only thing that kept me going was the thought of Ryan and Jessie getting married but that didn’t happen 😭
why i still read this series, I have no clue.. hope that it’ll get better, that we won’t get 30 pages of repeat background story that the reader should surely know by book 17… I’m a masochist atp. Also is it me or have they ruined Ryan’s character ? why is he such a loser now..
Jessie is trying to bring down cult that sounds so good and outside but is filled with evil on the inside. And the inmate that is suckering Jessie is up to her old tricks again, The Perfect Veil should be her motto. And Hannah is making progress!
I liked this one a lot. Jessie and Ryan each solved their cases working with different partners this time. Or did they. Lots of stuff with the incarcerated one from a previous case to iron out in future books.
3.5-4/5 stars. Definitely a good story :-) I just have to admit, I most often feel that the covers and/or titles, of the books in this series are so strangely incongruent. * shrug *
This book was very quick to read and did not disappoint. Two stories, one with a plot to be exposed in the next few books…I assume. Rooting for Hannah.
This one wasn't like the rest of the books in the series. This one was a little slower then the other books in this series. It was still good and I would still recommend this series to everyone.
