Summertale #1

An Eclipse Of Moths: A supernatural suspense story

Rate this book
A secret can only stay a secret for so long...

It’s been five years since Nicholas lost his mother, and he still doesn’t have any answers.

Someone knows what happened.

But they’ll fight tooth and nail to keep their secret.

When a malevolent force returns to finish what it started, Nicholas comes face to face with the past.

Old allegiances will be renewed.

Rivalries will reignite.

And corpses will rise from the grave.

The electrifying first part of the Summertale series, "An Eclipse Of Moths" alternates between nail-biting intensity and laugh-out-funny hilarity, often in the span of a single page.

For fans of Stephen King's small-town horrors and Ray Bradbury's coming-of-age stories, mixed with a dash of Terry Pratchett's signature wit.

I really enjoyed this very different horror novella. After perusing the sample, I determined to read it. Set in Cyprus (definitely a first for me), it begins in 1992 with a mild unassuming dare among a group of three adolescent friends. To their eventual dismay, seeds are sown that will culminate in future demonic infestation. Further on, possession, necromancy, black magic will occur. Will the demonic prove indefatigable? Or will two eighteen-year-olds and a lapsed Greek Orthodox priest sufficient to cast the demon back into Hades?

I didn't dislike this book. I think the writing style just falls into the category of not-my-thing.

The author has a great imagination, and I think that some of the issues I have with the book are a result of the length. It's just over 100 pages, and that's not a lot of space for the story to gain the depth that I think it could have. As far as the writing, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's just more informal that I typically like and I found it distracted from the story.

They story was pretty cool. It's creepy and makes you wonder what's going on with the people around you. Overall, I just think it wasn't filled out enough. And there were some pieces of the plot that didn't work for me. The biggest was that in such a short time all of the major players just happened to stumble together, and of course there's history between them. A history that's important, but gets pieced together kind of haphazardly and feels like purely a device to push the plot forward and make the connections more believable.

The character pool was and interesting combination....and I would have liked for it to work. I think they all had the potential to bring something to the table, but in the end I didn't really care about the characters at all. I didn't relate to them or connect with them. I think they were just a little flat...they each had a specific role to play and they acted accordingly.

Overall, like I said, not my cup of tea. However, I have no problem recommending it for others to check out.

I received a copy of this book from BookSirens and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book is a creepy, demon filled, what I initially thought was going to be a revenge story, amusing tale of monsters and small town life. Early in the book you meet one of the clichés who is a bad guys who was born with a large birthmark on his face which resulted in him being teased and a loner with no friends. So, I was thinking...Freddie Krueger? Carrie? But, this character is possessed by only one of the many demons in the story and is only one of the many plot lines. This story has a cast of characters right out of a horror movie and some of the funniest dialogue I have encountered for some time. I thoroughly enjoyed the one-liners, the clever repartee, and the witty responses throughout the book. The book focuses on Nicholas, a reluctant hero, who is still trying to figure out what happened to his mother since his father does not want to talk about her or her death. And the demons have arrived as evidenced by the moths who have taken over the town. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I requested an ARC of this book from BookSirens and am leaving my review voluntarily.

I have recently started getting into sci-fi novels so that's why I was interested in picking this up. It's a quick read at just over 100 pages and it's part of a series. I found the plot interesting because it's got zombies and graveyards. I was looking forward to reading how this premise was turned into a sci-fi genre. The language is easy to read, very current and familiar. The chapters are short and each is left at a sort of cliffhanger so you want to keep reading ahead, therefore it's a page turner too. The characters are likeable and funny. I really enjoyed the interactions and dynamics between Nicholas and his best friend and Nicholas and his father.

What didn't work for me was the occult oil-and-water ritual type of climax to the book. It ad scope to be developed into something more sinister or spooky but there just wasn't enough. So, overall an interesting book for YA that you can explore :-)

Tsagaris has a gift. While his books are easy to read, they create multiple synapses and they even manage to make you laugh. I read this book in a couple of hours and I look forward to reading the next ones!

For such a short story, it kept me entertained. I feel like if it was longer, it really could have been great. Definitely more of an informal reading style, but it was done well. I just started the next one, so maybe it will build off of this one.

SOMETHING dark this way is summoned ... good horror tale, well-developed characters. Was free to me from Amazon.

Interesting read

Not a genre I normally read, but I did enjoy it. Some parts are funny, and I can see this made into a movie. About to start book 2
