Back and Forth by Jessica Walker is a poetry collection that focuses on four different emotions to answer the question, which is the strongest?
Before this, I never read poetry. Since reading it, I’ve bought more poetry books because this book made me want to read more!
The book has four sections, Insecurity, Regret, Love, and Courage. Each one has poems for that emotion. I loved every section and how each one did such a great job of capturing the said emotion.
All of the poems are well written and there are many I relate to or that inspired me. I highly recommend this if you like poetry, or even if you haven’t read any yet! Five out of Five stars from me!

Honestly this book was so good. I loved the tugs on my emotions throughout the book, it made me feel grounded to reality. Made me realize loads of others struggle too.

Where do I begin? Back & Forth A Grasp of Emotion not only contains poems about emotions, but it contains poems that make the reader think about emotions.

In the introduction Jessica Walker asks her readers what emotion they feel is the strongest. My answer? Love. I feel that love carries all of the other emotions with it, joy, sadness, anger & courage to name a few.

I believe that the sign of a good poetry book is having pages marked with sticky notes throughout. If that is true, then Back & Forth was more than a success as my copy has a rainbow of sticky tabs down the side!

I definitely encourage anyone who wishes to dive deeper into their emotions to read Back & Forth by Jessica Walker, and while you read keep this question in mind. “Which emotion is the strongest?”

And I can’t end this review without mentioning the illustrations. I could admire the cover design for hours, and if any of you like beautiful books on your shelves, Back & Forth is a must for your collection!

Wow. The emotions explored in this collection, let alone the organization of it all, is BEAUTIFUL. Walker has a gift and you’d be absolutely blind to not see that or just immune to feeling altogether.😂 Walker is hands down my FAVORITE poet and I mean that contently and sincerely as someone who enjoys the poems and nature themes of Emily Brontë.

I felt so much emotion in this book I can't even begin to tell you. I don't usually read a lot of poetry for my own enjoyment but this book opened my eyes to how beautiful and detailed it can be. The writing is phenomenal and it honestly made me think and feel a lot with every poem and made me conflicted as to which emotion I felt was strongest because I felt them all so strongly because of Jessica's amazing writing. I really hope I can read more of her work in the future.

Poetry

Beautifully written words exploring emotions written by a teenager. Her first book of poems and hopefully more writing to come.

A lovely little poetry book! I don’t generally enjoy poetry very much but I did enjoy these. Many of the poems are quite relatable.
