Holiday Homecoming #2

The Office Guest

Rate this book
This could possibly be the worst holiday season ever…

My ex-boyfriend just booked the best suite at the resort where I work (with his new girlfriend, not me), half of the staff has called in sick with the flu (they’re lying so they can attend a huge festival in town), and my sister is driving me crazy with her incessant wedding planning.

These things wouldn’t normally be a big deal during any other season, but “Christmas” changes everything.

And this Christmas, my “little big lie” about a non-existent fiancé is finally in danger of being exposed to my family …
To prevent that from happening, I decide to download The Office Guest.

It’s an app for anyone who needs to hire a “fake & attractive businessman” to impress close family and friends.

At least, that’s what I was hoping for.

When the guy I selected bails on me at the last minute, the app promises to send me “an even sexier replacement.”

They must’ve meant “the devil wrapped in red,” because this guy is not some random actor.

And he’s definitely not a “fake” businessman…

He’s my former boss.

The asshole who fired me four Christmases ago.

Okay, now it’s officially the worst holiday season ever...

This is the second standalone novella in The Holiday Homecoming Collection.

I loved this holiday romcom. It was funny, sweet and most definitely the silliest book I’ve ever read. I loved both Dominic and Georgia. Their banter was top notch. It was freaking hilarious, a whole lot crazy(yesyougeorgia) and scorching hot sexual tension.
This is a book that does not take itself seriously, requiring you to just lay back and enjoy the ride.

3.5 banter and tension stars

This is a quick holiday read, low angst, and fast paced. I just wish it was longer 😭

Dominic and Georgia work together, but Georgia shouldn’t be working for Dominic 😬. In fact, there have been some close calls when it comes to his health 🤣 (he even gets woken up because it seems someone he works with… ahem… Georgia… keeps googling ways to un alive him 🤣) and other random inconsistencies that happen 🤣.

Georgia’s in a relationship and Dominic has a girlfriend as well, but that girlfriend is more like a façade, because he really wants Georgia. Although Georgia is with her boyfriend, she hasn’t been intimate with him in a while. It all comes to a stop when she comes home early from work and finds him being intimate with her roommate 😑.

She goes to work to get away from her place; luckily, Dominic’s still there, and things get hot pretty quickly 👀. She ends up getting fired because, well, they shouldn’t be getting physical.

So, she goes back home, to Colorado, and pretends that she’s engaged to her ex-boyfriend still 😅. Almost a year passes and she ends up needing to use the Office Guest app to find a man that could pretend to be her fiancé.

Destiny has plans for her, because the man that ends up showing up to pretend to be her fiancé is none other than Dominic, her old boss 👀.

And the tension couldn’t be thicker 👀😉😈

What I liked/love:
— the banter 🤣. These two can’t help but attack each other with words 🤣. I giggled so many times 🤣. The freaking audacity sometimes 👏🏻

—the internet searches were hilarious 💀🤣. And the random pranks done 👏🏻 I laughed way too much for these 🤣

—Webster’s Bastard letter 🤡

—the tension 👀. Ufff. These two have been wanting each other for a while 😅

—the 🔥. Oh Lawd. It gets 🥵. I wish they were more detailed, but I enjoyed what we got

—OMD 😈. I luuuurve it in my books, especially when the hero, Dominic, takes care of the trash 😉

—how alpha and dirty-talking Dominic can get 💦

What I didn’t like/wanted more of: SPOILERS
—that it was longer 😏. Whitney G has a potential fee a five star automatic read for me, but I really needed more in this book 😭

—how fast it all moves 😏. I wish we had more details on things. I mean; there were times I needed to suspend my belief, but it was mostly because things were moving fast. I get it; it’s a novella, but still 😭

—more 🔥 and less FTB 😐. Sigh. there’s so much tension, and the first time they do anything besides kiss becomes a FTB scene 😑. And then we just get a summary of what happens after, which is annoying. Also, once they’re finally completely physical, we also get summaries afterwards. Sigh 😭

— the unresolved OWD 😑. I feel like the book could’ve done without any, because what we do get feels unresolved. The other woman causes some minor drama that Georgia doesn’t find out about, and then it just gets dropped, as in, we don’t get a resolution for it. Did anything happen with/to her? Why not just omit it 😬. It didn’t add anything to the story because Georgia never finds out, so it would’ve been better if it just wasn’t part of the plot.

— a proper epilogue 😭. It’s only a year later when it happens, but I wish we had more details about their lives.

Overall, I enjoyed this but just wanted it to be longer

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating*/sharing
-OMD: the h’s ex tries to cause drama. Luckily the H is very confident so it doesn’t work
-mild OWD: the H’s ex tries to cause him drama before he sees the h again. Nothing comes from anything
-condom (only one sex scene)/the H has basically been celibate since wanting the h and never slept with his “girlfriend”/the h hadn’t had sex with her boyfriend in a long time before the book begins
-HEA/epilogue/one year later

Okay … hmmmmmmmm … I can’t say I wasn’t entertained by this little story, however … WHITNEY << that’s me yelling … WHY, after a billion years of writing, do you continue to write these novellas that would be total 5+ stars if you just fleshed them out and made them full-length novels?! WHY?! GIRL, YOU.ARE.KILLING.ME!

Now that that is out of the way …

This is one of those stories that you have to completly shut your mind of any possible realism and just go with it. If you do that, you will enjoy the heck out of it. The shenanigans are going to be a hard one for you not to roll your eyes and think ”are these two people only 10 years old?”, but try really hard LOL because in the end, this story is a *silly good time* you only have to spend a few hours on, AND, you might even laugh a time or two! I did for sure! *shrug*

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that the rinse repeat in this story was strong, but again, if you just shut your mind off … *shrug*

Sometimes Whitney G's office romances lean more 'sue for sexual harassment' than 'sexy and taboo' and this was more the former for me. They're both in relationships with awful people and like randomly/not super openly but like also very openly attracted to each other and act on it a little once/essentially cheat on their significant others...so I was just not into it at all.

I do find her wacky h's to be kind of endearing and funny sometimes and this one with her OTT behavior was amusing but also a little too ridiculous with no grounding or real basis for her outlandish behavior.

Then like the last thing I’ll say is that the H has the worst, sleaziest "best friend" ever. And he’s who is essential for the setup of the billionaire ending up as the replacement for her fake date from an app which is just all so ridiculous and dumb that that’s how they finally spend time together again?

Oh and actually, what’s the ending? How is the billionaire living in Colorado now? No explanation, but whatevs it’s a short nonsense Christmas novella…details irrelevant I guess🤷🏼‍♀️

This was such a fun holiday rom-com. It’s novella length and I was enjoying it so much, I hated to see it end.

Georgia was such a feisty fireball. She really had the gift of revenge although it never seemed to quite hit its mark which added a level of humor that had me grinning throughout most of the book. Dominic was her main target and I quickly fell in love with him because he found her just as amusing as I did.

This is a no to low angst read with not only a wonderful hero and heroine, but secondary characters that added to the laugh out loud moments. I’m looking forward to more from them.

dnf, i thought this would be fun if not deep, i thought it won't be all that bad and though maybe not totally politically correct still filled with funny situations, well not really, it was filled with totally obnoxious people being totally not likeable and then also not really people, i mean noone, noone would act like the people that filled this story, not one person that i encountered till halfway mark was really acting like a person, being logical or likeable. the only good thing about this story was that, oooh the world is filled with horrible people and still noone is as bad as the ones here. i really, really did not like this story or people.
putting the review in "spolier", as i feel so bad about not liking it and being so mean!

"The Office Guest by Whitney G is a festive novella that'll have you LOLing, swooning, and rooting for the characters 'til the very end! 📚✨ With its great mix of humor, romance, and a dash of holiday magic, this book is a must-read for holiday romance buffs. 🎄💕

Our lead navigates a comedy of errors during the holidays – an ex booking the primo suite with a new flame, half the staff ditching for a festival, and her sis's wedding planning driving her bonkers. As if that's not enough, her former boss, the one who canned her last Christmas, shows up unexpectedly. 😱

To save face, she turns to The Office Guest app for a fake fiancé, but her first choice bows out, sending an even hotter replacement – her ex-boss! 🔥 What follows is a sidesplitting romantic rollercoaster that'll keep you glued to the pages.

Whitney G's writing is sharp, funny, and brimming with clever banter that breathes life into the characters. The chemistry between our lead and her ex-boss is electric, and their journey from foes to lovers is a joyride. The holiday spirit is sprinkled throughout, adding an extra layer of charm.

While part of The Holiday Homecoming Collection, it works perfectly as a standalone, though fans of the series will relish the connections and familiar faces. 🌟

In a nutshell, The Office Guest is a heartwarming holiday read that'll leave you grinning. Whitney G's clever writing, lovable characters, and festive vibes make this novella a top pick for a feel-good holiday romance. 😊❤️

Me gustó.

The Office Guest is a new holiday novella from Whitney G. I read the first one in this series a couple years ago and have read this author a few times over the years, so I was wanting to try a new one from her! This is a hate to love, “hired my former boss who fired me as my fake date”, holiday novella on KU!

Georgia has a lot going on. Her sister is driving her bonkers with wedding planning, half the staff has called in sick with “the flu” but are actually ditching work to attend a concert downtown, and now her ex just booked the best suite at the resort she works at with his new girlfriend. So when her “little, big lie” about a non-existent fiancé is in danger of being exposed to her family, she jumps at the chance to hire a fake date on an app she was recently banned from! When her hired date bails last minute, the company sends a replacement date in his place. But then it gets even worse, the guy they send is her former boss who fired her a year ago! 👀

Soooo I thought this one would be fun but it honestly was a hot mess. I didn’t care about the characters and honestly found them annoying. Very much over the top and dramatic and romcom-next level, which just didn’t work for me. The story sadly didn’t go anything like I thought it would and I was just confused by the pacing and storytelling. I’ve definitely enjoyed other books by this author in the past, so oh well and on to the next.

My thoughts: 🔖Page 141 of 178 [Chapter] TWENTY COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO GEORGIA - This story has so many unbelievable plotholes and storylines I just can't picture half of it. I have an early morning so I'm calling it a night.

This one had too many inconsistencies and jump-arounds for me to get into. Georgia also was too toxic for me.

Recommend to others: It's your call, I didn't enjoy it.

Phew, this was underwhelming! 😅 Not only did it read like a complete mess with the time jumps, the messiness of the FMC, and the way this is written. All of it reads as if the author just dumped it on the page and left it for readers to figure things out. I wasn't a fan. As much as I tried to be understanding of the FMC, I didn't understand her and neither did I like her attitude. She acted so childishly and was so self-centred it was kind of amazing, lol. She's (apparently) incredibly talented at running a 5-star luxury resort but was so bad at doing her job when we met her that she was demoted to glorified intern. But her attitude and work ethic is so poor that we're just supposed to believe she only sucks at this job because she's bored and doesn't want to be there? I don't know. So many of the reasonings for things that happen felt implausible and silly. Our MMC had zero personality other than being a "super good businessman billionaire" and of course, he's more than slightly obsessed with our FMC and will do anything it takes to get with her.

Anyway, I'm not here to be salty. This just really wasn't for me! I guess you'd like it if you enjoy holiday romances that have time jumps, a lot of drama, and "quirky" FMCs and billionaire MMCs?

¿Me gusto? Si. ¿Lo recomiendo? IDK.

This felt so problematic and there were more than a few time that I found myself thinking, "Isn't this sexual harassment?". I'm sad this didn't hit the way the first one did but I feel like this one was more rushed and things weren't explained the way they needed to be. Also the heroine was irritating and I found the way she behaved so immature and irresponsible and it's hard to believe she manages a business at all with how ridiculous she is. I hate to be harsh but some of her behavior was just a big nope for me.

I will give it to this book though, it was a quick and easy read. Despite how irritated and questionable some of the actions of the two MC's were, I found myself unable to put it down and I finished it quickly in one sitting.

This was a lot of fun! i wanted a quick novella to get me out of my reading slump and this definitely did the trick! the drama was addicting and i couldn’t put it down. I will say there were typo’s but it didn’t take me out of the story completely. I also found parts of the story to be confusing but i just enjoyed the ride. This kept me on my toes and it was a such a cute holiday novella.

The Office Guest by Whitney G is a delightful and heartwarming holiday novella that will have you laughing, swooning, and cheering for the characters until the very end. With a perfect blend of humor, romance, and a touch of holiday magic, this book is a must-read for fans of holiday romances.

The story follows our protagonist, who finds herself in a series of unfortunate events during the holiday season. From her ex-boyfriend booking the best suite at the resort where she works with his new girlfriend, to half of the staff calling in sick to attend a festival, and her sister’s wedding planning driving her crazy, it seems like everything that could go wrong does. But what really threatens to unravel her carefully crafted lie about a non-existent fiancé is the unexpected arrival of her former boss, the man who fired her last Christmas.

To salvage her deception, she turns to The Office Guest, an app that promises to provide a fake and attractive businessman to impress her family. However, when her original choice bails on her, she is sent an even sexier replacement who turns out to be none other than her former boss. This twist sets the stage for a hilarious and tension-filled romantic escapade that will keep readers hooked from start to finish.

Whitney G’s writing is witty, engaging, and filled with clever banter that adds depth to the characters and their interactions. The chemistry between the protagonist and her former boss is palpable, and their journey from enemies to lovers is both entertaining and heartwarming. The author skillfully weaves in the holiday spirit, creating a festive atmosphere that enhances the story’s charm.

What sets The Office Guest apart from other holiday romances is its unique premise and the author’s ability to infuse the story with unexpected surprises. The plot twists and turns keep readers on their toes, ensuring that the novella never feels predictable or clichéd. Additionally, the supporting characters add depth and humor to the narrative, making the story feel rich and well-rounded.

While The Office Guest is part of The Holiday Homecoming Collection, it can be enjoyed as a standalone novella. However, readers who have read the previous installment will appreciate the interconnectedness of the stories and the chance to revisit familiar characters.

In conclusion, The Office Guest is a delightful holiday read that will leave you with a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart. Whitney G’s clever writing, engaging characters, and festive atmosphere make this novella a perfect choice for anyone looking for a lighthearted and entertaining holiday romance.

A nice little holiday enemies to lovers workplace romance.

The Office Guest is the second standalone novella in the Holiday Homecoming collection from Whitney G and it fits in perfectly with the previous one. Georgia was let go from her family's business and ends up working for Dominic, a successful albeit workaholic that makes everyone work an insane amount of hours. Everything is on his time. Georgia pushes all his buttons and they have the funnest insane banter between the two of them. When Christmas rolls around and he won't give Georgia the time off, she takes it upon herself to schedule her own time off and he ends up firing her. Then boyfriend troubles ensue followed by lies and secrets that end up following Georgia back to her family's business where she keeps up the charade for a year. Until the ex boyfriend and ex boss show up and turn her world upside down.

While I enjoyed the book and thought the characters chemistry was exciting, I felt it was a little repetitive and I wasn't a fan of the time jumps. I do wish we got a little more time of the couple actually together, but do like what we got. It's a novella and I'm loving the setting, the family and how much they come back for one another. I will definitely be reading the next one.

Sigh. I have the worst track record with KU Christmas romances. If it weren’t for some rare gems like the Catherine Walsh duo I recently read I’d probably give up on it.

This book is one of the more absurd I’ve read. If I put aside that so much of it is highly unethical and some of it even illegal in the workplace, we’d still have to contend with the fact that it’s overly dramatic, filled with cliched caricatures, suffers from constant “relationship” whiplash, and is poorly written and edited (SO many typos and grammatical errors). And to top it off, it is one of those “Christmas” stories that has nothing to do with Christmas and really just takes place during that time of year.

I’m giving it one more star than I might have because it’s a novella, so it’s short (otherwise would have DNF’d it) and there were a few funny comments from the FMC, who had a certain charm about her, occasionally (when she wasn’t being completely ridiculous).

I loved Georgia from the last book but her story was too cute. I loved Dominic too. He was really trying to date her for real and even before he fired her, he wanted her. And after too. They were a cute couple and the proposal being real shocked me fr.

I like them together and the chemistry was there! They made it work and even though I didn’t like Dante and I’m still thinking his fiancé was fake and he just wanted to ruin life for Georgia. I’m glad they kicked him out and Dominic should’ve beat him up. But this was a cute quick story.

it's a whirlwind of a novel. steamy, hot between two people who were already attracted but never did anything until afterwards (but also, kissing before you've broken up feels like cheating to me..) she has a shitty boyfriend when the story started so thankfully that ended quick. he's pretty straightforward about his attraction towards her the entire time. georgia and dominic had a fast relationship once the fake fiance thing happened.

I don’t know how I feel about this one … the beginning was a mess ..I didnt understand anything .. I didn’t get her character or why she’s doing the things she’s doing .. it was messy to say the least.

After you understand the story and what’s going on you can put the messy pieces together and enjoy the story, I’m shocked I finished it but I’m glad I did, I did end up liking the characters and the story once I knew what the heck was going on

„The Office Guest.

Chemistry is in the air this holiday season… This was a quick, light, and fun Christmastime novella that had a whole lot more emphasis on the “enemies” in enemies-to-lovers trope than the other two novellas in the series. The first half was a bit long, and the part about the four dates was a bit vague, but overall, this novella packed in enough drama to satisfy the reader for a short story!
