Maria Anderson and Jian Patu feel an instant attraction the moment they see each other at Seattle General Hospital where they both work. Their chemistry is off the charts until it's interrupted, first by COVID-19 and then second, by the riots in response to police brutality.
New love is always fraught with challenges even in the best of times! Will the fire between these two be doused by outside influences or will love conquer all?
Edwina Martin-Arnold is the author of several romance books. She is a hopeless romantic, and a true believer in happily ever after. However, Edwina knows that the path to real love is rarely straight forward. To the contrary, it's often paved with many turns and a peril or two, in real life and in the stories she creates. When Edwina isn't daydreaming about love, she's using her law degree to fight for Civil Rights or is coaching basketball.
Chocolate Drop is an incredible love story and romance novel, but it is also so much more! It is a rich chocolate fountain of adventure, passion, and psychological self-discovery set against the backdrop of the beautiful Northwest. Author Edwina Martin-Arnold captures the struggles of her characters, race issues, political issues, and the current worldwide pandemic in a fast-paced, moving story of two brave and relatable young adults, Jian and Maria. She hits hard issues head-on, but always with a spirit of hope and a belief in true love. The romance scenes are original, erotic, and tastefully written. And the palpable connection between Jian and Maria on every level, not just physical, makes them that much better. Martin-Arnold is a gifted storyteller, who breathes life into strong, independent, African American female characters and gorgeous-but-still-somehow-humble male characters from different races. Her clever use of a first-person back-and-forth style gives you a behind-the-scenes look into her characters’ hearts, minds and souls. The conversation in all her books is witty and believable, and there is usually a feisty mom or grandma who stirs the (fondue) pot and keeps me laughing. I love the Chocolate Series, and Chocolate Drop is my favorite of the three books. It is a tantalizing treat that kept me wanting more.
OMG! Let me start by saying I am not into romance novels. However, this book might have changed my view. It was a great love story, with awesome characters and more than just the basic boy meets girl and they fall in love and live happily ever after. The story takes your through COVID, through the George Floyd incident, touches on racism all the while pulling you into Jian and Marie's story. This was about finding your inner peace, dealing with your past so you can live your best life and taking chances. By the end you will be living the story right along with the characters.
This book is my first experience reading a work by this author. The story is set during the height of the pandemic and contains situations of social unrest. Maria has learned to love the skin she is in but still hears echoes from her childhood. She is an emergency room doctor and meets Jian, a pathologist, at the hospital where they both work. I loved that they were open with their communication….until they weren’t. Their situation was totally believable and very current in the storyline. I will absolutely look for other books in this series and others by Ms. Martin-Arnold.
Maria rejected relationships due to what happened when she was growing up! She meets Jian and its instant attraction. They are dealing with a pandemic, the Black Lives Matter and the killing of George Floyd. During a MLM protest Jian is injured. Due to pride he pushes Maria away but love brings them back together. They got their happily ever after! Very good read!
Title of the novel astounded me in the first place, Book cover is ideally adapted to the storyline and offers the right vibrations of the text. Coming with lot of turns, the book kept me hooked all the time, and I finished it in two seating.
📚I was intrigued by the plot and found the storyline quite interesting. Characterization was descriptive and the flow was perfectly paced. I enjoyed each and every page of the book and didn't find any sort of difficulty while reading it.
📚Without spoiling your suspence about this book, let me give a brief idea. Basically, the book consists of 293 pages only which anyone can complete in just maximum of two sittings. The two main character of the story is Maria Anderson and Jian Patu. It was a very amazing moment when they saw each other. They were attracted towards each other at Hospital. But there is something that happened. If you are interested then you should grab this copy now and read the further story.
What drew me to this book was that it was a romance with doctors, one being a beautiful black woman with Sudanese roots named Maria. She's falling for Jian, a Samoan forensic pathologist who makes her feel comfortable in her skin and he's wooing her and introducing her to some of his beloved grandmother Chinese culture. It was okay. Jian can get too preachy for me. I just started Chocolate Friday, but so far, I enjoy VANILLA CHOCOLATE: The Chocolate Romance Series! - Book 2 out of this series.
March 11, 2020 was was not a Monday. I know because my daughter’s last in person day of high school was Friday, March 13, 2020 because of the pandemic and my wedding anniversary is the 14th and was on a Saturday that year. As a writer myself who puts a lot of effort in making sure my small details are correct, this error was nearly a deal breaker that caused me to stop reading the book. But curiosity and legitimate interest in the story kept me going to see if citing the day AND date was integral to the plot. It was not. I’m glad I kept reading and enjoyed Maria and Jian’s story; as I enjoyed the first two Chocolate Romance books I’ve binged on this weekend. I just wish the author or the editors would have caught the error.
This was my fisr time reading this author. This was a good read, it tackle the racism covid 19 and abandonment issues. Also the issue of the Sundan women. I love how Jian was patient with Maria. I hope maybe one day the mom will come back and be in Maria and her brother lives
This is the best romance staged during 2020 I've read. It incorporates the angst of Covid and the police brutality protest angst without overwhelming the love story or feeling trivialized. I love the darkness of the heroine's skin and how it is celebrated but also lights on how it is demeened or exoticized. More please. More.
Mixing Covid and romance is not a bad idea. However, Covid, marches, too long explanations about those topics does not make a good romance novel this. This book was too long, too boring and way too much science and technical information. I just want a romance novel with the hero and the heroine love each other respect each other grow together. This was not that!
Reliving the pandemic is a reminder of the many blessings we have, as well as the things that have changed for the worse. The sweet note is the love this couple found during a difficult time. There was both emotional as well as physical healing. An emotional read.
Sometimes it takes a lifetime to realize your beauty. Two people from different walks of life learning about each other and using their skills through the pandemic and the civil unrest.
I liked this book and it's take on interracial dating. You never know how love will find you or who will fall in love with you. I couldn't put this one down until I finished.
Idk I feel like there really wasn't a lot of romancing going on here. Where's the cute covid dates, getting to know each other.. stuff like that. They went on assignment to another hospital, had sex & then boom- they're now in love!! where's the in between??
I loved Jian &Maria story it was love at first sight for him the relationship between Ingrid and Maria are true friendship I almost fell off my chair when grandma walks in on loving each other's and stood and carried on a conversation Maria wanted to die of embrassment but Jian handle it like a pro I loved it then the violence too much because Jian was seriously hurt I felt as I was there to real keep the good writing coming thank you
As the department head of Emergency at Seattle General Hospital, Maria has her hands full. But that doesn’t stop her from the opportunity to get to know Jian, the Chief of Pathology. Soon, their relationship start to develop, but because of recent events it’s disrupted by the virus. Maria, in my opinion, was a beautiful woman who’s pain from her childhood still lingered behind her many relationships. Although somewhat below surface level, I knew eventually she would have to battles those demons and I was glad that Jian was there. Her character was definitely relatable. Between the COVID-19 pandemic and the massive protests over police brutality, Edwina gives us vivid and detailed descriptions of the events that plague the world today. Gems were dropped in the middle of a love story. As were her first two books in the Chocolate Romance series, Chocolate Drop was nothing less than amazing. The story was well written as were the development of the characters. Enjoyed this book completely.
It's a romance read set during a virus outbreak! This story focuses on the characters' struggles to survive in a world thrown into chaos by the virus, and how they are able to find comfort, love, and hope in the midst of it all. Two characters have been through nasty relationship issues and are having a difficult time dating. That is until temptation cannot be avoided and things get hot and steamy between Ingrid and Brain. This short story was enjoyable to read!
It was a good quick read. I really enjoyed the characters love for each other and the passion they had. I enjoyed reading a romance and crime book intertwined.
At first for me it was lacking in the beginning. There were so many characters it was hard to keep track who was who, but as each chapter went on the story was better and better.
I know you would like a comment on every book, but this time I will comment on a very excellence written series. It was nothing I didn't enjoy. The story line and romance were just right and I will enjoy sharing this series with my friends and sister. I will be reading more from you.
The book was a wonderful mix of romance and suspense just like the 1st book in the series, Houseguest. Ms. Arnold knows how to develop a love story. Her pacing is spot on. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
It was a quick but joyful read. I enjoyed the characters and the build they created. The stories and the plot kept my attention where I wanted to keep reading.
My favorite kind of romance is this story. Action packed with plenty of 'details' and current/history making events included. Great ending of the HEA series.
