True names hold power. Fae cannot lie. And the women they steal become their brides.

When threadwitch Ariadne is taken by a fae lord as part of a centuries-old bargain, she expects to marry him whether she likes it or not. But, desperate to return home, she won’t give in easily. Even if Lysander claims he doesn’t want her hand in marriage but for its skill with needle and the threads of magic, everyone knows the fae are not to be trusted.

Plotting her escape, she sews spells into cloth and tries her hardest to ignore his charms as well as the fae realm’s equally alluring beauty.

But she soon discovers his world is as dangerous as it is beautiful. With dark creatures in the forest and enemies who wear friendship as a mask, Ariadne must make every stitch perfect if she wants to not only escape but also keep Lysander alive. Which, it turns out, is something she wants far more than she ever expected.

If you love feisty heroines, enemies-to-lovers romance, and arrogant fae lords with hearts of (mostly) gold, you’ll love this new adult fantasy romance that’s perfect for fans of Holly Black and Sarah J Maas.

This is the sixth installment of STOLEN BRIDES OF THE FAE, a series of stand-alone short novels written by various romantic fantasy authors who share a passion for fantastical love stories.

Lysander, to be honest, didn't leave any impression. He's just there. There are indeed sweet and heartwarming moments about him, but it's just that there's nothing interesting. It's a shame there isn't any significant character development about him; he could very well have been if the author had spent a bit more time with him.

Ariadne, The character is enough to frustrate me. The disbelief that was in her made her take some actions that were quite frustrating. Which is quite funny because, honestly, I can relate to that. Trust issues? It's me.
But I love how she is very brave. But same with Lysander, I wish the author could take the time and provide more character development for her.

Overall, the story is quite standard. The romance needs more development, and the way the author explained things is a little bit too dramatic for my liking, especially using some big words that my poor bilingual brain needs to reread to fully grasp what they mean. Honestly, I like good dramatic poetic writing, but this one is kind of too much and used in too many situations, and it's just not satisfying in a sense.
But well, it's still a good quick read.

Stolen Threadwitch Bride was a good, entertaining fantasy romance with fae. Ariadne (h) is a human who's fae touched, giving her some power over thread/sewing. Her town is not the most welcoming of her differences and she's alone other than her best friend. Then a fae appears, claiming a Tithe for the first time in a century and he chooses Ari, transporting her to the fae lands. Ari is not willing and spends most of the first part of the book trying to plot an escape, while the fae, Lysander (H), sometimes come across as arrogant or aloof, but shows a considerate nature in lots of little ways. There's some thawing out that happens and Ari starts to see all the positives that Ly has, plus they're both forced into the situation as Ly was ordered by his Queen to enact the Tithe. There's also more happening with hidden dangers once they get to Ly's home. Written in first person, single POV of h's. No ow/om drama and neither were virgins (only details of history were for h who had one lover).

Something about this story fell a little flat for me unfortunately. I really liked Lysander and all the ways he took care of Ariadne and how he wasn't the typically written haughty fae lord. Ari was harder for me to like because she clung to her past so hard, even though she didn't have a great life and Ly was offering her so much. I understood how she could fall in love with him, but I questioned more where his feelings were coming from. Several scenes had cute moments between them and there's an adorable hellhound named Fluffy. Both also lost their parents unexpectedly in awful circumstances so they did have a shared experience of loss and both felt guilty over this. This is a slow burn/build, but does include a couple of open door steamy scenes. Per the author's note, this was originally released with fade to black.

The world building was a little weak in that it wasn't clear to me how the human world was set up. There were references to the human world that left me a little confused with kingdoms and the physical layout of the whole world. There were lots of cool details like fae powers and incorporation in daily living. The story starts in the human world and then takes place on Ly's estate so even though there are references to the fae court, this isn't seen. Side characters are townspeople and then Ly's household and some characters who are near his estate, including the eventual villain of the story. Ly's household members and one other character nearby were really interesting. I did wish that there was a scene at the fae court, even if it was just in the city and not in front of the Queen.

I liked the main conflict, but something happens during the climax that puzzled me until the last couple chapters when it was explained better so in the moment I felt a little lost and had to be patient. It also felt a little easy in practice, it's hard to say without spoiling. But the romance itself is sweet (even with Ari's doubts and hang-ups) and they do get their HEA in the final chapters. I liked the epilogue but did wish for a more extended one, maybe seeing Ari and Ly just a little further into the future. The author does have a bonus scene available as an extra though. Overall this was a decent read and I did like it. I just didn't fully connect the way I wanted sadly, but others may!

If you are looking for a fae romance with a swoony male lead, a female lead with magic that weaves into her sewing to make garments that have power to them, and a fae world with monsters and magic, then look no further than this book!

Ariadne's magic was the best part of this book, especially the descriptions of her clothes! The beauty of this cover captures the beauty of the descriptions of this storyworld inside this book, and the story is so compelling that I couldn't put it down!

Of this collection of fae romances, this book is the steamiest with some detailed kissing and fade-to-black scene. This author normally writes books with super steamy scenes (and newsletter subscribers can get those scenes for this book for subscribing). If you like super clean, then this book might be edgy. If you are looking for steamy and were disappointed with the other books in this series that didn't have as much steam, then this book is the one you'll want to pick up.

I really wanted to love this book but I didn't. the FMC was insufferable at some point, and the whole world building + the side characters lacked of depth... in the end I didn't care about anything. but I'll read her other series because I heard very good things about it, and I see potential in her writing !

This was such a terrific read. I was drawn to it because I liked the idea of the magic, sewing spells into clothing. It had all the ambience I wanted, like an old-school fairy tale with a sweet love story. I enjoyed all the characters, and some of the climax imagery of Ari was *chef's kiss*, I love to see a heroine come into her own. Ari's anxiety was handled well, very realistic, and definitely added to the joy of seeing her handle herself. And bonus, if you like your books steamy (I fully admit to liking some spice in my reading) Clare has some bonus scenes (some steamy some not) you can get for signing up for her newsletter.

I always find it so easy to fall in love with Clare Sager's stories and characters. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors, and I cannot wait to devour more books from her!

This was a pretty quick read, which was unfortunate. Tbh, I wanted more Ly and Ari. Ari with her soft but fierce heart. I love witnessing her grow into herself. For someone who also gets anxious around people, I felt deeply for her. Despite this struggle, Ari showed how strong and powerful she can be and I love that. Lysander is my newest book bf. And I will fight you for him. I won't elaborate but let's just say y'all better be prepared for SWOON.

Stolen Threadwitch Bride boasts a captivating world, lovable characters and a romance that will set hearts a-flutter. Really, what more could you ask for?

Oh and also? Fluffy was ADORABLE. She's my favorite.

If you like magical wardrobe, swoony romance, HEA, adorable hellhounds and adventures in the enchanting Fae realm, then this one's definitely for you.

Go, pick up this book asap! <3

I wasn’t sure I liked the characters at first, but they really grew on me by the end, especially Lysander. This is definitely one of the steamier books of the series, though fade-to-black. And more language than the others I’ve read. Mild language usually doesn’t bother me, but it just seemed out of place in a story with such beauty. *shrugs*

This is a very paint by numbers romantasy. The attraction was a bit too insta-lust for me. I’m getting sick of love stories that go along the lines of ‘oh he’s dangerous and untrustworthy but damn look at those muscles *bites lip*’
I did like the threadwitch powers and the pet hellhound - it was honestly a crime that the hellhound wasn’t utilised more but like i said the story was pretty basic so i guess there wasn’t room for the dog to play a bigger role. Oh and the lady of the lake was cute.

So this book was already on my list to read, but I just saw a review on Amazon as follows:

Too steamy for my taste
The plot was good but there was way too much physical contact, innuendo, and at least three sex scenes hinted at. Bleh.

Which to me means I need to move it further up on my TBR =D

Oh, man. I think I have a new favorite romantasy author. Ugh. This book was so sweet and amazing.

Ariadne is a threadwitch, she has magic that allows her to enchant clothing. One day, a fae lord comes to town to collect an ancient tithe in the form of a bride. Ariadne assumes he will pick the beautiful and young Hawthorne daughter that she has made a gorgeous bodice for. Instead, he picks Ariadne and takes her back to his home. Ariadne has no family and desperately wants to get away from Lysander.

Lysander has my heart. He is incredibly thoughtful and trying to make the best out of a situation neither of them want to be in. While Lysander arguable has the better outcome of the sitation (staying in his home, on his lands), he tries to make Ari feel comfortable. He gifts her a complete sewing room with everything she could possibly need. He reads to her while she works and buys her the finest materials so she can make nice things for herself.

Ariadne wants to go home back to her life and her best friend Rose. She wants to get away from the fae and open her own atelier where she can craft clothing to her hearts desire. She tries to resist the sweet and charming Lysander but in her own words, "Oh shit." She actually likes him.

Clare doesn't write book boyfriends. She writes book husbands. "Sleep now, my evening star," my evening star?? If a man doesn't call me his evening star, I don't want him.

I've enjoyed all the books in this series, but this one is my top favourite so far. It has a unique plot and the story flowed beautifully which kept me hooked throughout.

The characters are well-written, including the supporting ones. I found Ariadne very relatable, and even though her self-doubts made me want to shake her into acting sensible at times, I could also understand where she was coming from.
Lysander was kind and patient, and it made me fall in love with him in the beginning itself.

The story also gives the message about accepting and loving oneself, and the author did a wonderful job in putting it across.

The world-building and descriptions are amazing and they fueled my imagination even further. It was like watching a movie in my head.

It had a great ending, although I wanted to see Ariadne reuniting with a particular character. Though it was mentioned in passing, I would have liked to read how it happened.

I recommend this book to all romantic fantasy lovers. Don't miss out on this gem.

Mostly good.
3.4 stars. I liked it. The guy was fantastic the whole way through and the heroine was mostly good. She got annoying from time to time throughout with her longing for a life that sounded pretty crappy and some not terribly smart behavior. But in general, it was enjoyable and satisfying. Not fabulous. But solid.

Clare is a new-to-me author that is quickly rising up as an instant-buy author, especially after reading this little standalone novel!! Her first i read was AKOI and omfg I loved that book.

I am very glad I got to read STB 2.0 because y’all know I’m thirsty and if the book doesn’t have steam I’m low key sad about it. 🤣 Clare put just the right amount of slowburn/tension/steam combo for a standalone!! I’m pretty sure she knows of a secret formula for perfecting this, because good gosh did she slay.

This book was so much fun!! Sometimes I forget how nice it is to just sit down and read a standalone! (I’ll always be a series girly though) Ari and Ly, I ADORE THEM!!

Before I blab on, I cannot forget the…

🪡 TROPES & THEMES 🪡
✔️ dislike to lovers 🤣
✔️ forced proximity 🤌🏽
✔️ hidden powers
✔️ he saves her (is that a thing? It’s gotta be bc it’s one of my favorites)
✔️ a hellhound named Fluffy
✔️ MMC with gift giving love language 🤣🥹
✔️ humans VS fae
✔️ slowburn with payoff
✔️ standalone with HEA

The pacing of this book was excellent! I never once found myself zoning out or wanting to take a break - I was honestly hooked the entire time. Ari is a threadwitch, which was really interesting - she sews and makes clothes, but she talks to the article of clothing while she does it and weaves spells into it. She’s struggling, trying to get a steady income, then suddenly chaos happens and a mysterious fae poofs into her little human village… and he’s here to collect the Tithe. What Tithe? Oh, you know - the one where a human must go and marry said fae. 😇 And that hasn’t been done in years.

Naturally, our FMC tries to not be noticed but the Fae - Lysander - isn’t dumb and snatches her up to take home to his freakin’ mansion. Where even more troubles lurk, and mysterious and mystery-in… and I’m not saying anything else bc it’ll spoil you. 😂

Lysander was SO got dang sweet, omg. I was swooning over him this entire book. Idk what his official love language of choice is, but he focused on gift giving in this book and my little heart was pitter pattering over the thoughtfulness of it all!!

This book was SO much fun to read, it ended nicely and I was completely satisfied by it! It’s a standalone, and it was just so nice to read! Like a little fantasy palate cleanser before I jump into even more fantasy. 🤣

Anyway, if you’re a lover of fae, magic, slowburn tension with a 🔥 payoff, spice, humor, action and an HEA - this is your book, boo. Pick it up and enjoy the ride. 😌

I'd started reading a free sample, but bought the book before I finished it, because I knew I couldn't wait to finish this story.
The writing flows, words dance and twirl on the page, take you from small town medieval England to the most frightening beasts or sad ladies from various folklores, from Greek mythology to Scotland tales, from French Brittany to English lores, old tales revisited with a contemporary twist.
The storyline, the characters, the perfection of the writing, everything makes this book unputdownable.

Don't run, fly and get it NOW. You won't regret it. One of the best books I've read in a while, one that I hope to see turn into a series, and into a TV series even.

This was one of the better stories in the series. While the magic wasn't fully explained, you didn't feel like it detracted too much from what was going on. However, in order to enjoy this, you need to be able to overlook how insecure the heroine really is. Fortunately for her, the hero is pretty wonderful to her (well, except the whole kidnapping thing), and balanced out her crazy insecurities.

I’m so happy to be back in the sabreverse with Stolen Threadwitch Bride!! I loved Ariadne and Lysander’s story! He is forced to enact the tithe in her town and choose her and she’s not happy about it at all.

Seeing these two fall in love was amazing! Ariadne has always made herself invisible and quiet so I loved seeing her come into her own and embrace the badass she is. I also loved Lysander, he was so sweet and adorable when he was shy. And he is definitely swoon worthy and knows what he’s doing in the bedroom.

The plot of why Lysander really chose Ariadne at first is also interesting. I loved the whole book and I look forward to reading Rose’s! If you haven’t enter the Sabreverse or read this duet yet I highly recommend you do!!

I really enjoyed this book. However I had some problems with it (small ones I promise).
As a whole the plot of the book was pretty enjoyable, but I wished I had more:
More character development, more romantic moments and romance development, more world development, more scenes with Lady of the lake (just because she is my type of gal....).
If instead of 200 and something pages we had 300, this would be a 5 stars book for me. I'm just a bit sad.

This was a good story. I enjoyed the whole idea of the fairy realm and being a bride of a fay lord. I didn't feel like I got to the leading man very well. I needed a little more of him. The love story was sweet. It was a little dramatic but I enjoyed the romance and the bit of danger. This was a teen read, but mature enough I think adults will like it as well. It had the feel of a fairytale.

So good. I’d seen this book cover on social media and was intrigued by the blurb. It had enough mystery to keep me guessing and lots of charm.

Lysander is a fae with a problem, Ariadne is the only one who can help him solve it. She’s a human girl who’s been fae touched. When Lysander is ordered to choose a bride she’s the one that catches his attention. Can she forgive him for taking her from her home and the better question is… will she help Lysander before it’s too late?

Loved the chemistry and world building.

Stolen Threadwitch Bride, by Clare Sager, is a standalone short novel from the Stolen Brides of the Fae series. This book also has relevance in Sager's 'Sabreverse', the world she has created in her other two book series, The Counterfeit Contessa, and Beneath Black Sails.

This story starts in a small town within Albion, where we find Ariadne, who is a down-on-her-luck threadwitch (a seamstress with a sprinkling of fae-touched magic, who can thread all manner of enchantments into fabric) and sufferer of anxiety.

A handsome, but somewhat arrogant and aloof, fae lord, Lysander, arrives to enact the Tithe, and Ari is taken across the wall to the fae-lands against her will. As she struggles with her new reality, Ari starts to realise that Ly and the fae-lands aren't as bad as she once thought...other than the creatures trying to eat her body and soul.

I really enjoyed this book- the plot was just right for a short novel (not convoluted, but not entirely predictable either), the characters were either lovably imperfect (Ari, Ly, Rose, Boyd) or totally loathable (Mr. and Mrs. Hawthorn, the Slaugh, Goren and his minions), Ari's anxiety felt real (and frighteningly similar to how I sometimes feel), and did I mention the stunning imagery running through my mind with every word I read? No? Well, I definately should have, it was amazing!

So, why only 4 stars? Overall, I loved this story, but, I did think there were a few loose ends (pun totally intended) that I really wanted resolved, such as, what happened with Rose, what was that bargain between Sylvie and Goren, and why did the Night Court Queen need Ly to enact the Tithe after a century without it? I'm hoping that Clare decides to write a follow-up to this book, so that I can find out all that, and also exactly what the Lady of the Lake knew (I totally got the reference to my favourite Pirate Queen from the Beneath Black Sails series, but a few of the others have me stumped)...Stars above, I need a sequel!

This story is Sager's bread and butter- adult fantasy romance with enemies to lovers at it's heart. While this is a romance, this book tells a sweet, rather than steamy tale (unless you find that kissing and fade-to-black romance are petticoat droppers/ bodice rippers, in which case, probably don't try her other books as they contain tastefully-done steamy sex scenes, and Gods, Lords and Ladies, you would definately need your smelling salts after that. Or, if that is more your cup of tea, by all means, add this, and them, to your TBR shelf immediately!)

☆I received an ARC of this book, which in no way sways my honest opinion as stated in my review☆

This story had a lot of continuity issues and leaves the reader with a bunch of unanswered questions. The worldbuilding felt empty despite introducing multiple different fantasy elements. Just a very serviceable book. The love interest is just alright, their personality for the most part is just nice and I kept forgetting they were fae and not just some guy. Personally I'm not super invested in romance in general so those aspects of the book was white noise to me but it was serviceable. It doesn't take that much for them to fall in love. I did like the reason he chose her wasn't for romantic reasons.

The protagonist Ariadne was also alright, I enjoyed her banter despite her being meek at first, but didn't leave too much of an impression on me. I'm a sucker for really niche and weird powers so her power was right up my alley. Sometimes it felt as though her power was just that she was just really good at sewing .

The major problems that I had had to do with how the book introduces plot points that end up not meaning much and could've expanded on the story. The story was a bit to simple and the fantasy elements just becomes background noise and the villain felt incredibly last minute and small.

Personally, this book pushed my boundary. I do not like body parts stated in books, men, women, don't matter. SO beware about 55% to 60% is a scene that doesn't go all the way to the bed but a body part is mentioned. I"m sure it goes more later, hopefully when they are married. Yes, personal opinion, I'm old-fashioned that way, and nothing will change my mind. I did give it a three-star because the writing is well done until then.

Maybe my mood wasn't right or the book wasn't right for me, but either way, the story failed to grasp me fully. I still enjoyed some parts so I'm giving it 3 stars for that reason, but overall there was just *something* missing.

I will still try out this author's other books though, of course!

Like the last Clare Sager book I read, this one was beautifully written, although I personally prefer a tighter plot. As a quiet, somewhat anxious seamstress, Ariadne was a really fun heroine to read about, and I loved the magical concept of knowing one's own true name becoming a way to come into one's own power.

4/5

Clare is a auto-buy author for me. I love this standalone read. The plot is solid and the I love the characters. It was a fun read and sets up the world she created in her later book, where I hope to see the return of these characters.

I also love the reimagined version with spice. Sager knows how to write a good spicy scene that sizzles.

Definitely check this one out.
