With Aanga Joshi's life hanging in the balance, it's Nico Madsen up against the ropes as Malcolm and Seong-Jae lock him in their sights. One boy could be the key to identifying the lodestone drawing Sila and the white rabbit to an unknown focal point — the place where summer ends.

Yet Nico's loyalty to Sila may be stronger than even our detectives' unbreakable wills...unless unexpected allies can make this broken bird squawk. The white rabbit may have ended his countdown, but the clock is still ticking.

How much longer before time runs out?

Slender. Angry. (Part) Asian.

Yeah, that about sums me up.

Hi. I’m Cole. Xen. Whatever you want to call me; both are true, and both are lies. My pen names are multitudes, my nicknames legion. Tall, bi/queer, introverted author of a brown-ish persuasion made up of various flavors of Black, Asian, and Native American. I’m cuter than Hello Kitty, more bitter than the blackest coffee, and able to trip over cats in a single half-asleep lurch; I’m what happens when a Broody Antihero and a Manic Pixie Dream Boy fight to the death, and someone builds a person from the scraps left behind. Beardless, I look like the uke in every yaoi manga in existence; bearded or not, I sound like Barry White. About half my time is spent as a corporate writer, and the other half riding a train of WTFery that sometimes results in a finished book. Romance, erotica, sci-fi, horror, paranormal; LGBTQIA and cishet; diverse settings and diverse characters from a diverse author.

Sometimes I shout about things on the internet. Usually intersectional feminism and marginalized voices, and whomever’s punching down in those directions today. Sometimes human sociology, the psychology of sex and gender, and my own gender non-conforming arse (he/him, by the way). Sometimes I get really mad at Stephen Hawking and nerd out all over the place about hairy black holes, and believe it or not, that’s not a terrible pun or even worse innuendo.

That’s it. I’m a huge dork. My humor’s so dry it could empty oceans. I’m a native Southerner from the New Orleans area with zero Southern accent; I’m a mess of multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-lingual influences; I have two cats. I wake up at daft hours of the morning to go running. I crochet terrible, lumpy things that never really turn into anything. I’m older than you think I look. I’m much more shy than my fury makes me sound (signifying gods only know what, but probably nothing). Recently I decided, at 36, that I needed to restart my life and move cross-country, so I tossed 75% of my possessions in the trash and randomly trucked it to Seattle. I’m in love with books and music and technology, and they war with each other for dominance and sometimes come together in a beautiful confluence. Most of the physical books I own are strange, obscure, out of print, overseas imports, or any combination of the four. Most of the physical books I used to own were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina, and have been replaced with the infinite library on my Nook. My wallet has a dangerous attraction to anything with pages; it flirts and teases and gives its all, until there’s nothing left but emptiness and ruin.

There will always be things you don’t know, and I won’t tell.

But ask me late at night over live music in a seedy bar, and you might just get an honest answer.

The previous book left us with a cliffhanger of Aanga being stabbed and Malcolm trying to help him...
description “Goddammit, Joshi.”
Suddenly he can’t see the sky.
Because there’s a blue-eyed asshole kneeling over him, looking down at him with his annoyingly handsome face set in starkly determined lines of urgency. Khalaji rips out of his suit coat, balls it up, presses it to Aanga’s stomach, and oh, there’s the pain, a dull punching thing wham-wham-whamming into him and while he knows Khalaji’s applying pressure to stall the bleeding, Aanga wonders if that asshole’s enjoying this after Aanga punched him this morning.

description
Meanwhile, with the help of his friends in Baltimore, Malcolm get new clues to where Sila and the Killer Rabbit are going and they're connected to Seth aka Sila childhood.
Aanga's life on the line, the pressure is too much to Seong and Malcolm is always there for him (don't know why but Malcolm being bottom and Seong top I just don't feel the chemistry between them, but Cole makes it real, but for me... Is strange, something doesn't feel right...)
description
On their way to close the case and finally going home to Baltimore...
descriptiondescription
description
But there's a surprise waiting for them...
description
Nearly choking on the dust, Seong-Jae took aim, keeping his finger on the trigger guard, struggling to find words. To just say it.
It is over. You are under arrest. Put your hands up, Sila…Seth.
You are done.
This is over, and you are done.
But Sila spoke first, his lyrical voice floating over the room, winding its noose around Seong-Jae’s neck.
“You’re early. Which means he’s late,” Sila lilted calmly—and turned his head until the wicked poison green of his eye fell on Seong-Jae, its taint a spreading sickness as venomous as his smile. “Hello, Malcolm…Jamjali. Come to say your final farewells?”

Need sleep... Need to process... Fuck the cliffhanger... Me scared.

🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐

I'm back with a more decent opinion on this even though there is not much to say. This book is IT, they get all the clues and they finally go for the kill, all or nothing bitches!!!!!! Also, the feelings were so raw and on point that I sheed some tears in several places, it's just that GOD! Our boys need a break, they need to end this, it has been enough! So I'm happy to say it's coming, THE END. I need the next book ASAP!!!

What I do want to share are some gems that were said that summarizes everything!!

"Just the sight of him made Malcolm’s heart settle into its rightful place, resting just a little quieter and easier inside the cradle of his ribs with the simple knowledge that his omr was safe and here with him"

Can they be more cute? Ugh!

"He supposed he didn’t have to like Joshi to be grateful to him"

Same!!

"as he remembered that he could be vulnerable, that he could be weak, that he could completely lose himself in this until he knew nothing"

*knees go weak* Oh my baby jesus, *breathes* I love them so much!!!!

“Yes,” Malcolm said, and that one word seemed to suck the all sound from the world. “He’s here.”

I'M READY FOR THE FINAL SHOWDOWN! *plays badasses song to get hyped*

I'm scared, I'm anxious but I can't wait!! I NEED THE NEXT ONE! 😫❤

"Tomorrow this ends. Tomorrow we get our lives back. Tomorrow we get our selves back.”

These two men... What an epic story they have:
"Come here,” he breathed. “Come here and let me feel you. Let me remember what you taste like when the air between us is clean. When I can only hear you, and not the whispers of every goddamned demon this case carries with it.”

On to the next!!!

This love was going to kill them both
..........................

I'M DEAD! DEAD 🥲🥰🥲🥰🥲🥰🥲🥰🥲🥰🥲

Can these guys BE any more swoony?
Any more epic? Any more perfect?

Because I'm sure they'll prove me wrong in the episodes to come.

Fave quotes...

“Malcolm curled his fingers into the soaked hair spilling against his chest and pressed his lips to Seong-Jae’s temple.
“I love you,” he whispered, lips tracing the peak of the scar between Seong-Jae’s eyes.
“Malcolm,” Seong-Jae sighed, his hand falling to rest over Malcolm’s heart. “I do not know how I could have ever loved anyone else.”

"Come here,” he breathed. “Come here and let me feel you. Let me remember what you taste like when the air between us is clean. When I can only hear you, and not the whispers of every goddamned demon this case carries with it.”

"You anchor me. Even when everything else feels unsteady, my path wandering and lost… you bring me back home again.”

“I love you,” he whispered, lips tracing the peak of the scar between Seong-Jae’s eyes.

“Malcolm,” Seong-Jae sighed, his hand falling to rest over Malcolm’s heart. “I do not know how I could ever have loved anyone else.”

“Sometimes I think I dreamed you,” Malcolm whispered, and traced his thumb against the lushness of Seong-Jae’s parted lower lip, hot breaths rushing over his skin. “That nothing can feel this good and be real.”

"Tomorrow this ends. Tomorrow we get our lives back. Tomorrow we get our selves back."

GAHHHHHHHHH

And as always... I STAN MAL and SJ.

Dammit dammit! Ugh! I can't say anything, everything is a spoiler! 🤯🤯

We're at the end and everyone is about to be face to face. This episode was so hard to read, because finally, Mal & Seong-Jae are truly at the end of their rope. The only thing helping them hang on is each other.

It's time to end it.

And my anxiety has anxiety. 😬

This time, it is Seong-Jae’s turn to get sucker-punched by the case and its relentless emotional, physical and psychological strain and exhaustion. Not that Malcolm is on top form either! But he manages just to keep Seong-Jae together, more or less.
And again, it’s mind-blowingly beautiful to see how their bond gives them the strength to get through every shitty thing that’s thrown at them. And there is plenty.

As for the plot: I start feeling like Gary Cooper in the (now ancient) movie ‘High Noon’: I know the big shoot-out is coming, I know bad things will most likely happen, but there is zilch that can be do about it. It's like watching a bullet in slow motion before it hits target.

And worst of all, I know our two guys are going to put themselves out there. And do everything to stop those monsters. And because of that, I seriously hope

Cole McCade really knows how to turn the tension-screws tighter and tighter, how to make your blood pressure soar and your heart go pitter-patter on maximum speed. Not mentioning the clammy sweat on my forehead and my trembling fingers.

Waiting for the final episodes is going to prove an additional torture.

But at what cost???

This episode left me with a deep and heartfelt "Uh-ohhhh", a bone-deep exhaustion on behalf of Mal and Seong-Jae, a racing heart, ten fingernails bitten to the quick and a raging anxiety about what's going to happen next in the big showdown. The only thing keeping me sane is that we are all in it together. Umm, Mal and Seong-Jae are, that is.

This love was going to kill them both.

Well, I surely hope not or words will be the least evil the author will have to fear from me... ;-)

i really have NO idea how this is all gonna end to be honest. all i know is that i’m anxious as hell!

as usual though, malcolm & seong-jae are swoon worthy… my heart can’t handle them.

“sometimes i think i dreamed you,” malcolm whispered, and traced his thumb against the lushness of seong-jae’s parted lower lip, hot breaths rushing over his skin. “that nothing can feel this good and be real.” ♥️

also i just have to mention once again that the astounding beauty in the writing of this series never ceases to amaze me. i truly don’t think i’ve ever read more beautifully written love scenes in my life. truly 10/10!

I would like to point out, how hard it was for me to not make this all in CAPS, BECAUSE IM SCREAMING ON THE INSIDE OHMYGOD!!!!!!

Reading this is so stressful, I actually gasped and shrieked a few times in frustration!!! but it’s so good, I’m enjoying the development of this story, the structure of how and when everything unfolds and the cameos of characters from previous cases. This one is about 160 pages but what a ROLLERCOASTER, HOLY CRAP!!!!

What I’d like to know, is WHY did they go in alone?? And why are there two books left of the season? WHAT WILL HAPPEN THAT NEEDS TWO BOOKS? I AM SO STRESSED OUT!!!!!!!! And what's up with the cover? who’s that supposed to be?? Min Zhe wasn't even mentioned in this one!!!

4.5 ⭐️ Another winner! Exceptional episode!!! We are closer to the end. My heart! It has been beating too fast.

Wow, they're so cute. Aren't they? ❤️ The relationship is progressing beautifully. Guys, they are grown-up adults now.

I love these two quotes.

“Seong-Jae’s arms tightened against Malcolm. “You make me feel better.”
“I’m glad.” Malcolm smiled against Seong-Jae’s hair. “Same here. You anchor me. Even when everything else feels unsteady, my path wandering and lost…you bring me back home again.”

“Malcolm curled his fingers into the soaked hair spilling against his chest and pressed his lips to Seong-Jae’s temple.

Wait actually one more thing. Even with the dread that is rolling around in my belly at this very moment I ABSOLUTELY love the place that Malcolm and Seong-Jae are at in their relationship. Cole better take good care of these men as he leads into the end of season two! :)

Don't have many thoughts about this one, to be honest. We're right on the precipice now.

I'm sure someone (looking at you, Amanda) was laughing at all my Aanga commentary knowing what was to come. I'm not saying he's dead.. but I'm not saying he's still alive either. OoOoo how mysterious.

That said, my one big takeaway? Please don't tell me these idiots came without backup.

This episode might be on the shorter side but it does not pull punches in the heart wrenching department. It starts from the very moment the last ended and shows the aftermath of Joshi's stabbing. The author manages to surprise me yet again and show a side of Seong-Jae that I didn't expect. Malcolm is right there with him - his strength and his rock in this turbulent time.

We are closer to the end than ever before. Mal and Seong-Jae are finally a step ahead of the killer. But that does not mean it's easy or fast. They are risking everything to get their lives back and finally put an end to the longest reign of two evil masterminds. This is a very emotional episode. The author shows that even a man who is not universally liked can inspire a great deal of loyalty and respect, that even the strongest of men crack under pressure and that being loved and being in love can heal enough to feel whole again. The story is intense, suspenseful, gripping and so very passionate. I loved it.

I was almost optimistic. Even when they go into the house and find Sila right there. I couldn't believe it. I just thought "there's got to be a catch". And then the book ended. I'm seriously going to cry if the next book doesn't come fast.

The season is closing in on its grand finale and the tension is rising. I was literally at the edge of my seat during most of the book, it was one of the better episodes full of action and thinking and yes, Mal and Seong-Jae are finally getting closer to finding their villains. Also the very hot sex scene did not hurt at all. :)

This book reminded me of all the reasons why I love this series.

Their love keeps this world moving, only them!

“This love was going to kill them both.
Every time, shredding each other apart until they were nothing but limp tatters of ragged emotion in each other’s arms. Cataclysmic. Cathartic.”

“I love you,” he whispered, lips tracing the peak of the scar between Seong-Jae’s eyes.
“Malcolm,” Seong-Jae sighed, his hand falling to rest over Malcolm’s heart. “I do not know how I could have ever loved anyone else.”

Finally getting to end this overwhelming pursuit… I want Sila and that goddamn rabbit bleeding, suffering, dead and buried! So close now!

There's a larger hole in him, this empty ache he's always tried to fill with his professional accomplishments, his dedication, occasionally the touch of men who never loved him as much as he loved them, but deep down he's always known there was something missing in him. And even as the years passed, even as he grew older and older, he's always felt as if he's been waiting to start living. Waiting to find the thing that fit into the hole inside him to make him a whole person, someone complete and fulfilled and living with some kind of purpose beyond constantly trying to find a name for the... for the...
For the feeling that he isn't, can't be, won't ever be
enough.
Not for himself.
Not for anyone else.

This is why I started to care for the character of Aanga Joshi. To the majority of readers he might be an asshole who's tried to come between their favorite couple. For me he is a lost guy who had a hard time dealing with his feelings. For me he is a guy who just wanted to be loved and felt that he will never be enough for the other person.

In other words, he is like me. That's why I couldn't stand the way he was treated by other characters (*cough* the MC's *cough*). He didn't deserve this. He did made some mistakes, but he apologized and tried to do better. The problem was that, despite his efforts, he was still hissed at and insulted.

To be honest, I didn't have any hopes for this book. I was certain that none of the MC's will come visit him in the hospital, because of all the bad feelings between them. But the way Seong-Jae had a breakdown in Aanga's room told me everything I needed to know.

That everything might be okay after all. Because despite all the bad things, he still cared (didn't want to care, but still did, because the feelings doesn't work how we wanted them to).

That was the most important thing for me in this episode. And the fact that Theo Carmichael came back for a little while (it was so nice to hear from him again!). I'm glad that the little guy and his father are okay despite the horrible thing that had happened (RIP Sindy Carmichael).

Now we've got together all the pieces of the puzzle (or so it seems). The time for the final showdown had come. I wonder how the confrontation between the MC's, Sila and The Golden Ratio Killer will look like. I hope that no one will die (at least none of the good guys!).

P.S. This episode made me feel sorry for Nicolas Madsen. For Nicolas Madsen who is responsible for Aanga's condition. Am I too soft? I think I'm too soft :D

4.25 stars rounded down!

Ah! We're getting to the end of the season! It's happening!

I felt that this installment was actually a little slow? Even though it was one of the shortest in both seasons ever? Weird to say, but I guess I didn't care much about what was going on with Joshi (sorry not sorry. At least .

But mostly this felt like everything that leads up to the big climax and not much character or story arc moved forward so at times this felt like a filler, and it wasn't just all Mal and Seong-Jae goodness, so it didn't quite satisfy my like episode six did, which was just all the Mal/Seong-Jae goodness.

I mean, pieces definitely moved forward, especially near the end, make no mistake. But most of it didn't feel like moving forward, I guess. Didn't feel like much more than filler. The character moments with Mal and Seong-Jae I absolutely loved, as usual, but when it came to the plot it just dragged a little for me.

But with that expert cliffhanger, I'm definitely excited for the next two. Oooh, bring it!

And of course, as always, the Mal and Seong-Jae parts were *chefs kiss* they never really waver for me. Any content with them, separately and together, that focuses on their characters and relationship just makes me so so happy.

And that sex scene near the end - another *chefs kiss* because that was perfection. I just love everything about these two.

It's rare that I don't give 5 stars for this series or round up instead of down, but there was just something about these last two that dragged for me.

Still an overall success, but just slower to get through it than usual, having to do with the plot parts.

Hopefully the last two books are as exciting and wonderful and heartbreaking and all that good stuff as the first season's last two were.

Can't wait! <3

This series has be at the edge of my seat the entire time.

Love their understanding.
[...] "Seong-Jae... may I hold you?"
Again, Seong-Jae blinked - uncomprehending, slow, before he looked down at Malcolm's hand again, eyes clearing as if a film had melted away. "Have... you... this entire time?"
"Yeah. I think it's understandable that it took you a while to notice, love."
