Eagle Ascending: A Novel

Rate this book
An explosive debut novel rooted in history, perfect for readers of Lincoln Child, Andy McDermott, and Frederick Forsyth.

New York cop Joe Krueger is about to arrest a notorious drug pusher when his life changes forever. He witnesses a bomb tear through one of the city's biggest Jewish museums, leaving dozens dead. In the aftermath, the case takes an even more horrific turn: footage from the scene suggests that the bomber is Joe's own grandfather, infamous Nazi General Wolfgang Kruger, who died 70 years ago.

With time running out until the next attack, Joe Krueger is forced to confront his family's monstrous past. Piecing the clues together, he discovers that his grandfather had been ordered to recover the True Cross for the Third Reich, and that modern-day neoNazis are racing to complete his mission.

Armed with little more than a burning desire to expose this plot, Joe travels across Europe and the Holy Land fighting to stop these men and their plan to tip the globe into another world war.

Eagle Ascending takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride from New York City to Berlin, Cairo, Israel, and San Francisco in one man’s quest to clear his grandfather’s name from his Nazi past and to save the nation from menacing evil. Dan Whitfield skillfully weaves the story through a fast-paced plot laced with history and a touch of science fiction. In the end, you will ask yourself, could it really happen? And shivers will ascend your spine.

If you like Dan Brown novels, you'll love this debut novel from Dan Whitfield, "Eagle Ascending." Don't want to spoil it, but "expect the unexpected" where the plot is concerned. A gripping page-turner, and a perfect add to your summer reading list.

A GREAT find. Loved every minute of this book, I couldn't put it down.

I enjoyed following the story from New York to Berlin and then back to San Francisco.

There's something about this book that hooks you in straight away - having struggled to find the time to read, I found myself reading it for large chunks of time which always the sign of a good novel!

Dan Whitfield keeps the plot fast-paced throughout and I enjoyed the mix of history & mystery which is the theme throughout.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Dan Whitfield publishes next.

A fun tale of the good guys chasing the bad guys around the globe!

This book is Indiana Jones meets Carmen San Diego. It is a wild story of an unusual team of experts coming together to solve a crime perpetrated by a modern day Nazi. The characters all have well-defined and unique personalities. As I was reading I was thinking to myself "I know someone like that ...".

Dan Whitfield is a superb wordsmith and his writing is a joy to read. I hope this story gets adapted for the screen one day And look forward to reading a sequel to Eagle Ascending!

If I didn't have young children I would have probably read this through in one sitting. It is a page turner. Definitely add to your summer reading list.

As a consumer other likes of Forsythe, WEB Griffin, and JC Pollock, this was a treat. Looking forward to more from Whitfield.

Thrilling plot twists, interesting characters, rich imagery, and brilliant historical and mythological references. A guaranteed entertaining read.

Gripping pace

Feels like reading a movie. Lots of action, great pace, clear characters. Someone should pick up the screen rights and make Krueger as famous as Bond.
