The one thing Kicks doesn’t need in his life is to fall in love…
The night Kicks woke in the hospital with fresh scars and a missing eye was the night he promised he would never, ever let himself be vulnerable again. And as the Road Captain of the Broken Chains MC, he managed to keep that vow for five long years. But the universe has different plans for the biker when his President sends him on a mission to escort the rabbi, Jude Burns, who is now under the protection of their club. Kicks doesn’t want a babysitting job, but he’s not sure what to think when he’s faced with a mouthy, stubborn man who seems far more sinner than saint.
Kicks has never in his life felt more tempted to break his promises, because with this man, his vulnerability feels like power.
Jude Burns’ world is turned upside down when his brother gets involved with a motorcycle club, and by proxy, he finds himself in danger of being killed. And after being shot at on the road, and just barely escaping a fiery death, Jude isn’t sure where he belongs. He’d spent his entire adult life dedicated to his service as a rabbi, after all, even when the temptation of life outside called to him louder than ever.
And Jude knows the decision would be easy if it weren’t for Emilio—the dark-eyed Road Captain who makes Jude question every vow he’s ever made. Jude was pretty sure he wasn’t destined for love the way his brother was, but when Emilio falls to his knees and asks him to stay, he finds it’s almost impossible to tell him no.
Even if it means walking into the line of fire to save a man with ragged, broken wings.
Broken Chains MC is a Motorcycle Club Romance series with dubious morality, mild violence, and happily ever afters.
3.5 Stars. For some reason I was apprehensive about this book, I didn’t think I’d like Jude and Kicks was still a mystery. I was so wrong! This book is definitely a relationship development book. I missed a little bit of the action we saw in the first two books ( the only action in this book doesn’t happen on page and actually happened on page of book two), but it did give the book time to focus on Jude and Kicks and their relationship. My heart hurt for Kicks and everything he’d been through, but I adored watching him get a shock when he realized his heart was still up for grabs. And I liked how Jude’s character was very introspective and made one think about things like faith and the bigger picture. For the overall plot line this book seemed more like a stepping stone, a book just getting the players into new positions, and that disappointed me a little. But for the relationship, it was solid and it was lovely.
Broken Wings is the third book in E.M. Lindsey’s Broken Chains MC series and gives us some overlap with book two, Backfire. The end of that story shows us the events of the attack from Eliah and Smokey’s points of view, and we see pieces of Jude and Kicks’ story there. So here we get to see more detail about when the men first meet, as well as the aftermath of the attack. The books tell different pieces of the same story, and I think having read Backfire will definitely make this story a richer reading experience. The series also continues the overarching threat of the attacks on the Broken Chains, so again, being familiar with other books is not essential, but would be helpful.
I am really loving this series. As I have said before, I think a motorcycle club series is very suited to Lindsey’s strong character development and they really bring these complicated men to life. There is so much to uncover here about both Jude and Kicks and I enjoyed slowly learning all their different layers.
I have to say this was not what I expected a book by this author to be. I found it very confusing and hard to follow. Periods of time would just pass by and events would happen that you’d have no knowledge of. People sustained major injuries in what seems like it would be a pretty critical piece of the story and there was little to no explanation. However I will confess that while I did read book 1 I did not read book 2 so it’s very possible some of my answers would be found there.
This is my favorite of the books so far - but this is definitely not a standalone. It starts with just Kicks (gah I love how Jude calls him Emilio) and Jude when Kicks has to go pick up Jude and protect him. I love how they’re kinda annoyed, not with each other but the situation. Then around 36% it skips ahead because those events happened in the previous book - this (and the over-arching plot) are why this is best read as a series.
Kicks and Jude are wonderful, trying to figure out how to live their lives together rather than apart. Jude with his crisis of faith and Kicks with his life crises help each other but there’s no quick fix here. It’s just two people who aren’t perfect, but who are perfect for each other.
3.5 Stars ~ I am not much of a one for MC stories as oftentimes they’re insanely ridiculous and/or the description talks about characters having dubious morals, etc., when in reality they don’t. The ‘Broken Chains’ series by E.M. Lindsey is not the standard. There are no outwardly good or bad people, everyone struggles with their pasts, things they’ve done, and lack of remorse about “evil” deeds is pretty much the way they roll. I will strongly recommend that these books be read in order and that the author’s trigger warnings be taken seriously.
”Kicks wasn’t afraid to die, but he was afraid to give in to the madness he sometimes felt clawing at his edges. Stronger men had been taken down by a lot less, and he knew that there were days he was hanging on by the skin of his teeth. It was really only a matter of time before he cracked—before his threadbare hold broke, and he descended into the darkness. But he wasn’t giving up. At least, not yet.”
I am absolutely loving this series. EM is doing a great job extending the story through all the books with the fear of Hydra and trying to find him.
We met Kicks and Jude in the last book and boy did I start rooting for them. I couldn’t wait to see how the rabbi can fit into a biker club life. They were sweet together. They understood what the give and take would be needed to make their relationship work even with both having hang ups on relationships in the past.
3.5 stars - I’m rather invested in this series now and the main storyline. This book overlaps quite heavily with book 2 so I’d recommend reading that at least to get the full story. Its nice to get Jude’s story, I appreciate reading about his Jewish culture and I also like that he is an older MC - In his 40’s. I did feel a little bored in this one. I’ve read book 4 since reading this and already can’t really remember what happened despite it just being a few days ago.
Motorcycle romances are pure escapism for me. It was lovely to catch up with the Broken Chains and find out why Kicks and Jude were looking at each other like that. This installment was less violent than the first two, so that was a nice breather as well, though the threat from prior books remains.
I edited this review after re-reading because I mistook some character lines.
However, my review mostly stands. It was also info dump galore. Don’t tell us the character’s background. Let us see it or let another character find it out. I hate info dump.
The story was not bad. The writing was not bad. If you have KU, I’d read it. I did not, however, buy it after.
I was expecting this to be another action-packed adventure, but what Jude and Kicks's story lacked in heart-pounding danger they more than made up for with their wonderful romantic connection.
I've struggled to connect to some of the other Broken Chains members, but Kicks and Jude effortlessly drew me in. As with all of Elaine's men, they didn't have the easiest path in life, but that didn't make them any less deserving of a happily ever after. It filled my heart with happiness to see the two of them slowly start to open up to each other, and their deliciously steamy moments between the sheets were even better. I wasn't expecting the light D/s dynamic the two of them shared, but my god was I a huge fan of how that translated into some insanely hot encounters. More than just physical chemistry, Jude and Kicks fit together as if they were meant to be in each other's lives. There was something so lovely about watching the two of them spend time together doing everyday things, and I could feel the growing intimacy between them as they got comfortable sharing a space.
Because this book picked up right where the last one left off, I was easily able to jump back into the continuing storyline. Though the threat of Hydra loomed over Kicks and Jude for the entirety of this story, I was surprised by how calm and peaceful things felt for the most part. I'm not complaining, because the slower pace allowed me to dive deep into the romance these men were building, but it did feel very different from the other books in this series. I kinda get the sense that this story was the calm before the storm, and I'm excited to see where the Broken Chains will end up next.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
Series: Broken Chains MC #3 Rating:3 stars - I liked it
Kicks never expected to find himself falling in love with someone but when Rabbi Yudah Burns bursts into his life everything changes. Jude’s life gets turned upside down when his brother gets involved with the Broken Chains but it may be just the thing he needs to find his true calling and happiness.
Jude and Kicks story was emotional, messy, and very sweet. I really enjoyed getting to know these two men and why they are the way they are. Kicks had a heartbreaking past that has caused him to have PTSD and trust issues, but he finds peace with Jude. Watching these two men open up about their pain and fears was wonderful and I didn’t really want to put their story down.
Unlike the previous book, this one doesn’t have a lot of action. We get to see how Kicks was shot in the beginning but after that it's mostly just references to attacks and violence. I didn’t mind the lack of action in this one because it really allowed you to focus on Kicks and Jude and their growing relationship. I do expect the next one will be more action packed since things are starting to pick up again against Hydra.
Overall, this was a very emotional one. I enjoyed these two and can’t wait to get to know the rest of the Broken Chains MC.
Trigger Warnings: PTSD; torture; violence; burns; injuries; gun violence; abusive and neglectful parents; Brother who is an addict referenced; references to drug use, motorcycle accident, amputation, and rehab;
The first part of this book overlaps with events in the previous, and we’ve already received hints of what will unfold between Jude and Kicks. Their connection is obvious, but it becomes even more vibrant from their perspectives. I adore these characters separately, and Lindsey blew me away with them together. The rabbi and the biker feels like it might have cliché written all over it, but neither character is typical of these stereotypes. Circumstances throw them together, but the chemistry that burns between them is very real.
The second half of this book continues the storyline beyond events in Backfire, and Jude continues to be a presence in Kicks’ life. Secretly, neither man minds very much, though even they subscribe to the notion that they don’t have a future together. In the present, however, the heat that rolls off them is off the charts. This relationship is not overtly kinky, but there is an element of power exchange that adds to the overall nontraditional features that make this book my favorite so far of this series.
Kicks and Jude do not exist in a vacuum, however, and they have regular interactions with Jude’s twin Eliah and the other Broken Chains members as the overarching plot of this series progresses. These men aren’t innocent bystanders, but they are integral elements to the main storyline by virtue of their connections with Smokey and Eliah. I can’t wait to see continued glimpses of their pairing in future Broken Chains stories.
Kicks and Jude’s story is my favourite so far. I’m not sure why exactly, but there’s something about these two that just do it for me. Maybe it’s the unexpected pairing. Let’s be honest a biker and a rabbi aren’t your usual romance fair!
All the Broken Chains guys have brutal pasts, but Kicks’ story hurt my soul. Still, he’s come out the other side, making his life his own. He meets Jude when he’s given orders to make sure no harm comes to the Rabbi. What he doesn’t expect, is for this religious leader to be quite so fiery, mouthy, and stubborn.
These two are perfect together. Their relationship felt both intense and sweetly domestic at the same time. They complement each other well and have a really great dynamic that understands the need to give and take in order to make things work. Not to mention they were hot in the sheets!
Looking forward to book #4. Not only do I need Hawke's story, but I need to know that Hydra gets what’s coming!
Just as poignant and heartbreakingly beautiful as the first two books in the series, Broken Wings is the story of Eliah's brother Jude, and Kicks, the MC's hacker and road captain.
I highlighted so many passages again, EM Lindsey just has such a way with words. The way they put things is almost poetic and I'm always excited to see what part of the prose will catch my eye with it's uniqueness.
We're getting super close to a showdown with Hydra, although this book is a relationship building book so don't expect a whole bunch of new showdowns (there's some overlap with the events of book 2).
These characters are already quite self-aware and don't go through a lot of character growth in the book (they have obviously worked hard on themselves prior to the books events), which is something I feel EM Lindsey normally does very well. Even though their relationship feels very genuine and the chemistry between them is super hot, I would have liked them to have to work a bit harder to gain each other's trust and love.
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
Gahhh, I am just loving this series! First off, I just want to mention that this is best read as part of the series. You definitely should be familiar with the characters and events from previous books. It’ll also give you an introduction to Kicks and Jude, who ended up completely stealing my heart. They’re both broken in different ways, but the way they work out how to live their lives together makes for one beautiful journey. It’s poignant, heartbreaking, and completely engaging. In particular, this author has a knack for utilising the emotional aspect of a story to draw you in and keep you captivated. I’m always so heavily invested in each character; their flaws and fears, and it just elevates the characters’ connection and their romance to a new level. Emilio and Jude certainly deliver on this front. Together they learn to trust in someone else, and also find love and comfort with each other. I cannot wait for the next book (especially with that little cliffhanger leading in to the next couple’s story)!
I just plain like this series. I like the bikers aren’t racist. I love that most of the characters are older. I like the way Linley has made this basically a continuation without it feeling like there are cliffhangers. You just know there’s more to do. I like that the flaws haven’t bent me out of shape. I love having a deeply committed Hebrew character without this being about religion or faith. I like having characters who are physical challenged/disabled and it’s just that, a challenge. They are still a part of the team.
I like that the author isn't afraid to write about life questions, about self doubt and putting faith to a higher self even if it's not the first thing you would think about if you're talking about a MC's lifestyle.
Biker Kicks (Emelio) and Rabbai Jude should have been two opposites of each other but both have more layers than what a first look tells you. They meet after Kicks gets an order from his President of the Broken Wings MC to get Jade into their area to protect him. Sparks fly when they meet for the first time and they act to it. What follows is more story development between the main characters with a side of the problems that have been playing since book two.
This story feels a slightly different from the rest of the series so far. In the previous books, the main characters have purpose and direction, but they don't have someone special to share their lives with. In this book, Jude doesn't seem to know what to do next with his life, but meeting Kicks gives him a direction. The combination of a rabbi and a Road Captain for a motorcycle club is strange, but it works.
This story hints at future connections for the rest of the series, and the end is a decent conclusion. However, there is a bit of suspense at the ending that leaves the reader anticipating the next book.
What a ride! Two men who seem so divergent, more alike at their core, and their vulnerability with each other, seemingly at that first glance, just...worked for this couple! It ended in a bit of a cliffhanger, as a lead in to the next couple of the next book. I was fascinated by the MC culture, as this book provided more insight into that world. It is a world into itself, and the people within unique and, at least for Emilio/Kicks, starkly beautiful. This was an ARC given for an honest review.
I absolutely adore this series! I was excited to get Kick’s story! I feel a little in love with him from the very beginning. While his back story was so darn heart breaking it made him stronger. I didn’t like the brashness that was Jude in the beginning, but he grew on me. I loved how Jude called Kick’s by his given name of Emilio. I loved reading Kick and Jude fall in love. I love how the author gave us more into the lives of the other couple within the Broken Chains motorcycle club. Kick and Jude’s story was beautiful! I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.
Kicks and Jude, finally! And so good! While the over arcing conflict is there but its more in the background in this story. Instead we get these men with their struggles with guilt, worthiness, faith, belonging. But when Jude and Emilio commit, such committment, sigh. This can not be read as a standalone. Each book is woven into the each other. In fact, if my dear E. would write faster, I would recommend reading the series as one (quite long) read. But I can't wait that long. And we get the set up for Hawk and Jax and a tiny glimpse of return of Nate. And yes, this was an ARC.
Kicks comes to take Jude to safety but it has promise to be so much more. Jude was going through the motions of his life as a rabbi and knew he wanted something different. He just didn’t know it would come in the form of a damaged biker. There was instant attraction on both sides. Kicks knew he could do what he craved and give himself over to Jude, listen and drink up his commands. Jude saw Kicks for who he was, damaged but special, wanting to be loved and taken care of. They both had what the other longed for.
This is a story of two broken men, who find comfort and love when and where they least expect it. Both men have experienced major trauma and carry a lot of guilt. Kick's and Jude find that they do deserve love and learn to trust in someone other than themselves. There's the underlying story of a vicious man, Hydra, and the Reaper MC. Both Jude and Kick's suffer at the hsnd of Hydra in book 2. Can't wait to read the next book! I received this engaging book in exchange for an honest review.
Another great installment in this series. I’d say it’s a continuation of the storyline in previous book so not a standalone.
Kicks and Jude have a connection we saw a glimpse off in book 2 over this book their relationship develops and is full of comfort, love and vulnerability.
I loved how they are both overcoming a trauma and that kicks only shared his story and feelings with Jude. It’s a wonderful connection.
I do like reading a series with a story arc. An MC made up of queer, disabled guys, dancers, professors and rabbis is not something you’d read about often. Only thing keeping this from full stars is the author has trouble conveying the passage of time. The narrative seems to indicate around two months going by, then we’re told it’s been almost a year, then it seems to go back to only several months. Throws me out of the book if I can’t follow the timeline.
The Broken Chains just can't seem to get a break, but despite being shot, broken bones, and their various disabilities, this band of brothers and their boyfriends have managed to persevere. I love that. As this is a series, characters crossover each book as the club sets their sites on stopping Hydra. I recommend reading the series in order to get the maximum enjoyment. I'm on to book 4 now.
I think this is my first book where the mcs struggles with his faith, All my love and hugs and kisses to emilio, his trauma is so sad, but really all he wants is too be loved. I think this is my favorite book so far just because you can see the chemistry build up between jude and emilio in book 3 and then we get to dive deeper in their own story. So far im loving this series loving the rep. Im not a religion person but i think their Judaism was well represented
